R.I.P.: Marvin Miller

“Maybe,” Spence says, “the most important non-player in baseball history.”

“Got the players off the plantation,” Admin says.

So the average salary in the 1960s was $16,000 and in the 1980s it was $240,000. What is it today? Don’t answer that. (Should we compare the average salary of the college professor….)

Good morning all. Have to admit we haven’t heard of Marvin. May he RIP anyway.

Countertop guy was here and gone. New top will be installed 12/10. Yea!

    Morning all.
We don’t care about baseball. Can we still have pie?
Today is last minute errands before we leave.
First – off to the post office to ship the last long overdue package to a very patiant person. And to ship boutique items.

Then its off to the grocery with Gramp to find things that he can prepare by himself. Gramp is not exactly a world class cook on his best days – with poor eyesight, this is going to realy be a challenge. And he doesn’t like PBJ. sigh.

Of course when he knew we were going to the grocery, he started making his list of other places he would like to go. double sigh. Please, oh please let his new glasses come in and be RIGHT!

There was an interesting interview about Marvin Miller yesterday on NPR.

We are bummed about the hockey because the Minnesota Wild got the two best players ever to both be on their team this year and now there are no games. I think everyone else is scared of Minnesota. sniff, ‘just sayin’.

Trying to stay motivated to do holiday stuff. Most of the shopping is done, but cards need to be addressed and gifts wrapped. Too lazy to get started!

    Masquers,
The hockey team owners have locked the players out in an attempt to break the union. So far all that has happened is they have cancelled a whole bunch of games. I did hear the other day that the Wild team owners are putting their office staff on reduced hours but so far no one is being let go.

Here is why I was finally looking forward to a hockey season here in Minnesota…

    Ohhhhhhhhh.

They are so beautiful. Sniff. Thank you Rio.

I bought the forget me not flowers. Those are the first flowers I learned. When we lived on the thumb in Michigan there was a little wild area near our house and it had Forget me Not growing there. I think it was Bruce that I asked what they were. He was always a smarty pants. We moved there when I was four and moved away when I was nine so sometime in that time I learned about the Forget me Not flower. I did not know they were the Alaska state flower till now.

There is also a tiny frame with beautiful roses around an oval porcelain thingy. It says Friendship, a special kind of love.

    Thank you again, Rio.

Zoe is aware of my philosophy on this subject. We were standing in line and she said, “Melanie, I’m getting those (things) for you for a gift”.

Melanie and Staff, our mom feels exactly the same about those items. She hates them, and is completely clueless on why so many women have a fetish for the most painful kind. She only wears completely flat ones, and those are either sneakers or clogs or flip flops or riding boots. She actually wears riding boots to her office almost every day in winter.

Rio!!!!! I just got home to find the blue duck of happiness. I love it, and the frog. The colors are even richer than in the picture and the sun’s eyes sparkle. It’s on an easel on the computer desk so every time I’m reading Chet’s blog, you’ll be with me. Your friend is very talented and I second Wose’s motion that quilling should be her regular job.

Yay for Gramp’s glasses and best wishes for the show this weekend.

Barb – we here really like Fresh Market crab dip. Have you checked out their deli and/or dessert case? Yum.

Computers!…bah!…If it takes that damned busy-place to fold because of crap software, so be it. She will finally get the Turkey-Guts to open an Etsy Shop and see what happens…grunt!…She said she has never been let go early because of networking or software issues in all the busy-places she’s been before…sniff!…Although, she has been predicting a Huge Meltdown ever since the software conversion…grunt!

Melanie we checked the US Geological Service and they show seismic activity in your area. Perhaps the Newfs should take turns dancing.

Baseballs hit way in the sky,
We just want some Stover pie. (do we get two pieces since we also rhymed?)

Staff, you must have a magic wish, getting a sale with just what you wanted!

Yea Gramps, now just don’t get into any mischief while the cats are away. Oh, wait, the cats are not going anywhere.

We just talked to Melanie. She has been trying to post something about the song “R a w h i d e” and didn’t understand why it was being moderated. We gently explained to her that there is a famous naughty web site with that same name. Oh, she said. Then she snorted and laughed

    (yelling with an echo) HOLD ON . . HOLD on . . HOLd on . . HOld on . . Hold on . .
(crashing and banging sounds) Snigglefritz, Carpola, hold still Franklin . . No, don’t help . . NOW ALL OF YOU PULL.

Whew. I didn’t notice that the Newfs had created a hole in the floor with their dancing. I’ve been stuck in the basement for hours.

Everyone is getting their boutique items! Hurrah!

Macy, I have no doubt that the dancing showed seismic activity up here. They have finally stopped. I’m not sure who caused the hole, but Mac and Mattie are looking sheepish. (dogish?)

It is time . . Zoë and I had a good day, she’s already to sleep, and I’m headed that way.

Whew! I am glad that BStover got her package. Now I come to think of it she did say that she loved the inner wrapping. Heh. Yup I remember it now. I used my favorite star holographic silver paper. Yummy stuff.

I have a card here that the Turtleman brought for me to give to Dawson. heh. It is funny. (Background, the Turtleman buys and restores old letterpresses and other printing equipment, see http://www.drewpress.blogspot.com/) He was visiting a friend with an old letterpress (Think 1890’s treadle machines) and got this great card. On wonderful heavy stock paper it shows a Canadian Mounty framed in front of an orange maple leaf and under it it says. CANADA, protecting the U.S. from Alaska tee hee.
Then you can write anything you want on the inside.

Barb, have you placed your order for Schwetty Balls? Oops mom said I can’t ask that but what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her (much). I sure hope Bee doesn’t ask for an explanation.

Royals, mom has some buttons that seem very familiar. Are they related to a bear?
