Good morning all! We seem to be losing so many of the old time greats.

Last week Barb had drive by vandalism, not sure if we mentioned it. Kids out here don’t have enough to do so they like to go mailbox bashing. The prefered tool is a baseball bat. So they got our mailbox, a section of picket fence, plus they threw the contents of 2 garbage cans all over the road. All this the morning that the appraiser was coming. Lovely!

Barb got the garbage picked up, straingtened out the pickets best she could, and fortunately the appraiser didn’t seem to notice the damage. Anyway the pickets have been replaced, a new mailbox ordered (local hardware store was out due to a run on new mailboxes). So now we have to go out and paint the pickets this morning before the temps get up to 100. BBL

Morning, B, and greetings to you all!

I tried to post yesterday, but a message came up that said I was typing to fast. heh!

BooBear, you look very handsome and happy on the quilt. Now Gus has two quilts to be tucked under. I hope he is doing better.

Busy place is very busy…it’s interrupting my blog time during the day!

B&M, so this is what kids call entertainment! Sorry to hear about the vandalism, and all the work that had to be done in this brutal heat.

We here don’t know much about Kitty Wells. Apparently she was the first woman to top the country charts in 1952.
Riö: I hope with all that thunder and lightening you finally got some rain last night.
    Congrats on the win.

    Good morning all.
Barb – that was just rotten of those kids. But we have to admit – our Wrotten Kats have an alibi for the time. And they can’t really grip baseball bats very well – no opposable thumbs, you know.
Rio – we agree with your obit grumble. We would rather start the day with a story about suit shopping.
We are staying inside today. Already 90 degrees and humid. Ick! But the tomato plants are loving it.

    R.I.P. Kitty Wells.

Before I start with my morning comment . . This was on the news . . .

NYC bus driver catches girl who fell 3 stories. http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/13828374-418/story.html

What tickles me is the bus drivers last name is . . . wait for it . . . almost . . .

Wooo hoooo!!!! We just found out that a certain celebrity New York Times Bestselling Author will be making an appearance at the art show this weekend!!!
Wait a minute …. What are WE cheering about? WE are being left home. Again! sigh.
We wanna meet him too! Especially if Audrey and Pearl come along.

In the mid 50’s my dad (from Texas, big C&W fan) took me to the touring company of the Grand Ol Opry in Phoenix. I saw just about everybody who was anybody back then – Minnie Pearl, Wanda Jackson, Webb Peirce, Roy Acuff and most notably Johnny Horton. Don’t remember Kitty, although I suspect she was there. For decades after that, I wouldn’t go near Country music, but now that I’m old the DNA is kicking in and I’m partial to a lot of bluegrass. Del McCourey, Steve Earle and the Cherryholmes family are found on my IPod.

Wow Terry, your dad gave you some good memories!

Hazy, Hot and Humid Here! Supposedly the worst day of the summer so far. Warnings out for the elderly. Where is Dan? Upstairs without AC taking a nap.
Where are the Pack and I? Downstairs in the AC.

Pool party will be coming up in the afternoon. All welcome! (Siber-H: I now have a very comfy recliner situated in the upstairs so you can look out the window)

The “Guys” were coming to work on the house’s wonderfluffing. I don’t think they are going to be here. Hopefully, they will come tomorrow.
200 YEARS OLD! The house has to get ready for the birthday party!

Just have a second, friend Kim is here helping with the packing.

Kelly’s sister-in-law, Trish, took her French Bulldog Emmitt, for an early morning walk, thinking she would do it before it got too hot. He evidently had a heat stroke and is now at the vets. Very dangerous conditions out there! Be careful everyone.

    Good morning, All.
Kat is in trouble again, but she can tell you about it herself.

Barb and Maggie, we lost many mailboxes to baseball bats on a regular basis, but we seem to have found the solution. We bought one of those American Flag magnetic mailbox covers, and nobody has bashed it since. It has been years and years.

Mom said she heard about Kitty Wells on the radio this morning, and for some reason, she put her Patsy Cline CD in. We here love Country music and Bluegrass. Our favorites are Dwight Yoakum, Lyle Lovitt, Dixie Chicks. We don’t like much of the pop being played on most of the country stations around here though.

Terry, we think you are so fortunate to have gotten to see as much as you have, thanks to your dad. He sounds great.

Melanie, that was a great story, and the bus driver’s name is a hoot!

We are very bored today, because they made us stay indoors. Like we can’t keep ourselves cool, just digging into the dirt in the barn. Drat!

Melanie: St. Bernard to the rescue!
When is the Birthday Party for This Old House?
We are picturing Siber-H on his lounge chair upstairs enjoying the frolicking in the pool…from a safe distance.

Terry: Nice memories of times with your dad.

Tupper&Gilly: Lucky Dogs! Well, maybe not, since you won’t be there. But your mama and dad will get to see our favorite author…again!

Barb&Magpie: A terrible thing about the fence and mailbox…good the appraiser didn’t notice it. Let’s hope he sees only the positive and gives you an appraisal complimentary to the sale price.
About the mailboxes. We knew someone here who had theirs blown up! They finally ended up getting a PO Box instead.
    What’s with these kids anyway?

  18. Siber-H
    12:23 pm on July 17th, 2012

I’m glad Spence remembered Kitty Wells. She was a true country singer and pioneer for women country singers…none of this pop crap.

Terry, Wow! Johnny Horton. His song, “North to Alaska” is my anthem. Then there is “When it is Springtime in Alaska”, and “Sink the Bismark”. I could go on, but I won’t.

The Twins got 19 runs across the plate in yesterday’s game! Wish I had seen the game.
It was a struggle, but the Rockies won.

    Kat? What did you do?

  19. Kat
    12:23 pm on July 17th, 2012

It is true that I got in trouble this morning, but I don’t understand why. Mom has this long thing she calls a trough that she plants flowers in. When I was younger, I ate most of those flowers, but I left a few in the center. Mom keeps watering them. Why? Not sure.
So anyways, this morning, Meashka asked me if I have been practicing for my upcoming flower girl stint. Woops…I had not practiced in quite sometime. So I pulled out those flowers and practiced carrying them in my mouth (I did NOT eat them). Surely, that is why my mom was saving them?
So when Mom was leaving for work, she picked up one of those there flowers and whacked me with it…didn’t hurt!
The only reason I can figure is that Mom thinks I should be carrying them longer, like all day. How can I do that, I ask youse.

Another great Pool Party! Siber-H watched over us and ate some salmon flakes on kibble. Dogs were blurring in and out. Great fun! I swear I saw Alice riding atop of Franklin, but then he dove for the depths and she disappeared.

Mr. Redbone Hound, please feel free to join us. Not sure how you feel about pools, but you are welcome anytime.

Are you okay? Breathing okay? The AC holding out?

Gus, meant to say that you look very good on the quilt. Please continue to get better.

BearSpiritDog, This Old House will have a birthday party after it’s been painted. So right now, “the Guys” are repairing This Old House, especially the North side and some of the window sills, and then they are taking a break while they finish another house. At that point This Old House will be piebald. In September they are coming in with a full crew and painting this BIG Old House. (very grateful I don’t have to get on the roof)

I hope Mr. St. Bernard’s shoulder heals quickly.

T.Ballard: You are lucky to have seen all those “greats” in person.

The 100+ degree weather has moved East. It is only in the mid 90’s now. I’m still staying inside.

Bee!!! Unbelievable temp for your area, isn’t it? It is in the 90s here, but expected to reach 100 or better tomorrow.

Melanie, we love your lettuce gutter garden, and also your pumpkin and squash rock garden. Kat says she is coming back for This Old House’s birthday party (hide the flowers).

  48. Masquers

Did she ever say what’s happening with escrow on the new house?

Yes, Dawson, Kool and I have found a common interest. A love of jazz. Seems he played bass in another life.

His breathing is still labored but we are celebrating each baby step to feeling better. Maybe the combo of both plunderer quilts is going to do the trick…at least give Mom and Dad a little more time with him.
