R.I.P. Deacon Jones
“He was fun to watch,” Admin says.
“But terrifying if you were the opposing quarterback,” says Spence.
“Which for some reason we were not.”

Gooood morning everyone! Recognize the name, even ‘tho football’s not our game.
Rio: No obit moaning, it is the other side of the coin of life. It doesn’t have to please us, it just is.
8:46 am on June 4th, 2013
Good morning all.
8:49 am on June 4th, 2013
Greetings!
A moment to remember Jean Stapleton as well.
Good day to everyone!
8:50 am on June 4th, 2013
Good morning. It is a beautiful day here. The heat left, and fresh air took its place.
Still, it will be a melancholy day on this here blog.
9:09 am on June 4th, 2013
Wondering about Rebecca. Been chewing couch pillows hoping she landed safely, got some quality sleep, and that her legs don’t look like Popeye’s arms. She would have to have anchor tattoos put on them, then.
9:10 am on June 4th, 2013
Oh, Rose, you are soooo silly!
9:13 am on June 4th, 2013
Hey, did anyone see the video of the Siber (someone’s cousin?) on the field at the CSUFullerton baseball game yesterday?
10:22 am on June 4th, 2013
Good morning all. You mentioned Jean Stapleton. All In The Family was one of our all time favorites. Never missed it back in the day.
Deacon Jones, well we agree, we know the name but didn’t know who he was. May he rest in peace.
Barb gave me two happy pills before she took me to the v*e*t’s
yesterday, and it still took 3 techs to get the job doen, two to hold me flat on the floor, and one to do the nasty. As soon as she finished and the muzzle came off, I jumped up and greeted them like they were my best friends. Then I cam home and slept it off.
Today Kelly is coming to help Barb with the flower placement in the newly prepared front bed and she is bringing Guster, my best friend.
Only Gus is coming. Rember Little Mo? Well it didn’t work out – he had to go back to the vet’s after he tried to bite everyone in the family in the first week. Kelly discussed it with the vet, and they decideded he might be better off in a family with only adults or older children. The bitting was not provoked thru any bad behavior on the kids part. And then he tried to bite Kelly when she was handing him a toy, so there was just too much chance of some child getting bitten in the face. Kelly felt like a complete failure, but Barb thought she made the right decision.

Good morning all. It is the kind of day that makes you want to play in the grass, or walk in the woods, or just BE as long as it is outside. The sky is an incredible azure blue; the rare color that only comes as a reward from days of storms. Even sunlight is different somehow, it makes the leaves of the laurel bush translucent, and the grass looks like an inviting green carpet, rippling just a little bit in the breeze.
It is a peaceful and perfect day for Melanie and Zoe to walk their Rose to the foot of the Bridge, and send her on her way to a place where she will be happy, pain free and dancing with her friends.
We refuse to be sad. Rose has been loved, and cuddled and adored. She has given kisses and laughter when they were needed most. She has been a joy, and a nuisance, a clown and a reprobate and we will miss her. There will be a hole in the Pack that will be hard on Melanie and Zoe, but they showed their absolute love for her by letting her go while she was still happy.
And on a glorious day to dance across the Bridge.
10:47 am on June 4th, 2013
Wee are thinking of Melanie, Zoe and Rose this morning. Many others have expressed it so well. Amalia and Wookie’s dad’s comments were expecially poignant. Peace be with you, Rose, as you start your travels.
10:49 am on June 4th, 2013
Melanie and Zoe, Your love of the pack shows in all the things you do with and for them. We all understand the difficult choices that need to be made sometimes, so take today to be under the quilt and lurk for a bit, or let the pack see the progress on their special pool, or brush and love the “kids”, or just go outside and appreciate a beautiful late spring day with those you love. You are special ladies.
10:54 am on June 4th, 2013
Hey Rose (the 4 legged): we are all here to dance you over the bridge.
Hey Rose (the 2 legged): Thanks for mentioning Jean Stapleton. Love her.
10:55 am on June 4th, 2013
Melanie and Zoe, Rose will always be in your hearts. Now she will be on the Bridge with her many friends and family that are waiting to greet her. What a glorious day to be welcomed to everlasting life!
Love you, Rose. What a wonderful Newf you are.
10:58 am on June 4th, 2013
Awesome, I always loved her in All of the Family. Few people realize that she was a fine dramatic actrees as well.
11:00 am on June 4th, 2013
Bon Voyage! Say HI to Boris, Misha, Sasha, Buddy, et al.
11:16 am on June 4th, 2013
We are a little teary right now.
11:23 am on June 4th, 2013
Tears here for Melanie and Zoe. But oh, what’s a fabulous adventure for the sweetest Rose of all.
Sniff.
11:34 am on June 4th, 2013
R.I.P. Deacon Jones. I am another one that only knew the name but nothing else about Deacon Jones. I try, but football is not my game.
Barb, I hope you can convince Kelly that having to return the little guy is not her fault. She is not responsible for that behavior. The people or peoples that had the dog from the time he was a puppy are the guilty party. Kelly made the right decision.
Thinking of Melanie, Zoe, and The Pack today.
11:38 am on June 4th, 2013
HOH I did not see the video of the Siber on the baseball field, but I bet he/she was having a grand time.
11:40 am on June 4th, 2013
Biting!….Beau bit everyone here and they still kept him…grump!…Go figure.
11:52 am on June 4th, 2013
Barb – please tell Kelly that she made the right decision. Her children have to be her first priority, and a biting dog may need WAY more structure or training than a family situation might be able to provide.
A few years ago, Gramp adopted a rescue dog who had been badly abused. While the dog seemed happy enough for the first few days, then he started biting. At first the bites were “experimental”. Then he started drawing blood – and like Kelly’s dog, did so with absolutely no provocation. The last straw was when the dog walked across the room to where I was sitting, reading and bit me hard enough to break the skin.
Dog trainer was called in and she listened to our experience, and watched the dog from across the room. She told us the dog was “aggressive dominant” and was starting to establish his dominance in our household.
We had no choice but to return him – but the upside was that the dog was adopted by a guy with a fenced in auto parts yard – the dog was given dominion over the yard at night as a watchdog, and was perfectly happy. He just was not meant to be a family dog.
12:03 pm on June 4th, 2013
Barb, we agree with you and T&G. Kelly gave Mo a good try. He obviously needs something that he can’t get in a family home. It is better that she accepted that now, rather than after he became attached, or she became too attached. She didn’t cause the aggressiveness, and her children must be kept safe. We hope she gives rescue another try with a different dog, sometime.
12:42 pm on June 4th, 2013
We got Belle because she was aggressive toward a child. Now she is aggressive towards mom, at unpredictable times. Like if mom gets too close to Dad without B’s permission. Of if mom dares to come to bed after D is asleep. Mom tries to love Belle as much as the rest of us, but sometimes it is hard. B is just a problem child.
Beautiful day in MA for a walk, I hear. Run free Rose, run free. What was the problem that caused this? Mom’s memory only goes back a couple of hours. Mine, well, who’s to say. Big hugs to all pack members.
1:01 pm on June 4th, 2013
Goodbye dear Rose, Charris said it well. You are loved by all of us who never met you.
And Wookies Dad, thank you for the Rose.
Melanie and Zoe, Great memories are yours to enjoy and treasure as time goes on. Celebrate your memories and the love you share. Enjoy this beautiful day.
I think I will go out into the garden and pull some weeds. It always makes me feel better.
1:31 pm on June 4th, 2013
Remembeer what mom always says, “Gardening is cheaper than therapy!” (Is that like a treat?)
2:01 pm on June 4th, 2013
Thanks for all the encouraging words for Kelly. She did feel bad but deep down knows it was the only choice. And it’s not like he was put into a kill shelter. The vet tech said “we will just keep lovin on him till his forever home comes along”. Mo seemed to like quiet and routine, so another problem was jumping back and forth to the lake house on weekends. Kelly filled out an application today with an agency for another rescue situation. Paws crossed here.
Staff, Barb thinks the fence she put up yesterday will work. Being in a subdivision, we have not yet seen a raccoon, skunk or deer. Squirrels and bunnies seem to be the main critters, and we don’t think a squirrel has been the problem. Damage has occured over night so we still think bunnies. If I could get to them it might help, but the gardens are outside my fence. Next year, since the garden will be 22″ high, we think that will eliminate the bunny problem.
HOH, Gardening IS Barb’s therapy!
2:18 pm on June 4th, 2013
Barb!..I may have mentioned this before, but Kelly can have Beau…sniff!… He thinks he likes little girls…grunt!
2:21 pm on June 4th, 2013
Barb – would Kelly consider a couple of Wrotten – umm, we mean DELIGHTFUL Kats.
We ship.
2:31 pm on June 4th, 2013
Ship??? Kats??? Didn’t think they liked water.
2:39 pm on June 4th, 2013
RIO! I think you would miss Beau if he was gone.

HOH! That was super-great. We think it might have been a Sibe we know named Caleb. 🙂
6:36 pm on June 4th, 2013
OH: Thanks for the paw-up on the up-load. Things around here were getting tense (and the air blue). Wow if you do know him. Looooked like he had a gooood time.
6:40 pm on June 4th, 2013
HOH, loved the husky video. A certain husky on the blog is really named Caleb. We prefer his blog name.
6:47 pm on June 4th, 2013
Sam: Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Got it 🙂
7:17 pm on June 4th, 2013

7:39 pm on June 4th, 2013
SiberH!…heh!snort!heh!…Out on the field! I dared him to do it and he DID!…Wooooo!
7:54 pm on June 4th, 2013
Rio, I did it!! I am going to try for a Major League game next time.
gulp, That Husky looks just like me.
Thanks for the video HOH and Howlers. It really is the cutest interruption of a baseball game ever.
7:59 pm on June 4th, 2013
SiberH!…Once you get that MLB game under yer belt we can look forward to a World Series disruption…heh!heh!
8:00 pm on June 4th, 2013
O’Howlers, Sending my strongest prayers and love to Jaxon.
8:01 pm on June 4th, 2013
Rebecca!…When I read your post I thought your name meant from the Other Side of the Country…heh!
8:04 pm on June 4th, 2013
Right On, Rio!
Notice how the Husky glanced at the player and just trotted on by. That is one of my tricks with humans. We know how not to get caught during our explorations.
8:05 pm on June 4th, 2013
Howlers, Prayers from me and mom for Jaxon.
8:07 pm on June 4th, 2013
Caught!…I thought the Husky sort of gave a nod to all the players who got close to him….heh!…Then he did a little side-step out of reach…snort!… Beau and I try that move, but somehow it doesn’t look as elegant or even work most of the time…grunt!
8:10 pm on June 4th, 2013
Prayers for Jaxon!!!
8:15 pm on June 4th, 2013
Rose’s bridge stretched clear across the west Texas sky.
8:16 pm on June 4th, 2013
CHobbit!…How are you doing in Anchorage?…snort!…What are you doing in Achorage?…heh!heh!…I bet you are still looking for the perfect house to buy so me and my friend can come visit you for an undetermined and possibly infinite amount of time…snort!
8:23 pm on June 4th, 2013
Macy, That is a beautiful photo. West Texas is where I am from.
That is a perfect Bridge for Rose and Buddy.
8:26 pm on June 4th, 2013
Foto!…That foto looks almost unreal….sniff!….I’ve never seen West Texas. I wonder if Chet ever will…hmmm.
8:34 pm on June 4th, 2013
First: Our prayers and thoughts are going out to Jaxon.
Rose saw her co-owner, YSAS, over Memorial Day and she loved that. She ran for the walk/run everyday until yesterday. We did a special opening of the pool just for her. It’s not really open yet. She was our best swimmer. YSAS taught her when she was 4 weeks old.
She was our herder. She would keep everyone together for Zoë. Zoë could say, “Find Mattie!” She would go and find her.
This was a fast growing cancer. She had a good time until the day before yesterday.
I’ll be planting wildflowers on her grave. I will be back either late tomorrow or the next day.
Thank you all for your support.
8:36 pm on June 4th, 2013
Macy, That was beautiful!
8:40 pm on June 4th, 2013
Rio: working on the perfect new house. Didn’t you know that guests are to follow the same rule as fish in the fridge: only stay 3 days, after that you start to smell. Or in your case it might be 3 minutes. Hmmm…I might have to buy a dog house to go with my new house. Rebecca can lend you straw for bedding and a dog coat (I hear she has lots). Can’t you take something for your gastronomical distress?
8:50 pm on June 4th, 2013
OH: HOH and 2 leggers are keeping Jaxon in thoughts and prayers.
8:50 pm on June 4th, 2013
Thank you Melanie for the update. We wondered what had happened with Rose. Take as much time as you need.
C. Hobbit, hope you find that new house soon.
Night all.
8:51 pm on June 4th, 2013
Hit submit too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with little Jaxon tonight.
8:54 pm on June 4th, 2013
Melanie!…Thank you for the Rose Eulogy, she was a special girl and will remain special in my pug heart forever and ever…wuffle!
8:59 pm on June 4th, 2013
CHobbit!…This fishy way of counting days a guest lives with you is very foreign to me…sniff!…And just so you know, I have Never Ever slept on straw in my life, so please do not go to all the bother of that…grunt!…I will sleep on my own bed or if that is not available I will sleep on the big bed with my friend…chuffle!…Breakfast should be served first thing before I go out!out!out! and there should be a goodly amount of fresh protein on that kibble, if you know what I mean…sniffl!…So, no need to go out of your way for me at all, CHobbit.
9:02 pm on June 4th, 2013
Quite a day, up and down, silly and sad, but rarely a dull moment. We agree with Barb and Maggie…Nighty night
9:04 pm on June 4th, 2013
RiverBearPatsyinDisguise is up top – to let us know the party is on over the Bridge.
SiberH: Great job out on the baseball field evading those who were trying to catch you. As if! Thanks HOH and O”Howlers for that fun link.
MacyMinPin: That is one big Texas rainbow for Rose.
O’Howlers: Fervent prayers being sent for sweet Jaxon.
9:22 pm on June 4th, 2013
So, with this lovely day outside, guess where our silly Mama spent HER day? At the hospital emergency room. Her knee is still running this little soap opera, and she had to see the doc this morning because last night her knee turned bright red and hot.
Her doc sent her to the hospital for tests, and probably to be admitted. But after 7 hours of waiting around, and being bruised up by vampires in white coats, and being photographed from the inside out…the ER doc told her that obviously her knee really hurt, and there was obviously something wrong with it, but dammed if he knew what it was, so go on home.
Huh? Don’t hospitals usually FIX people?
Anyway, all we care is that she is home with us now, and we are all going to go to bed. Prayers for Jaxson, thanks to Macy for the rainbow, and chuckles for a certain Siber. See you all tomorrow.
9:31 pm on June 4th, 2013
Aren’t hospitals suppose to keep looking until they find the problem and fix it. I know it can be fixed and I am getting really pissed off about it…not that there is anything I can do about it except offer moral support.
9:35 pm on June 4th, 2013
Rio, the MLB is looking to suspend A-Rod, Braun, and others because of drugs.
The Rockies game is all tied up.
The Boston Red Sox are murdering the Rangers.

Close!…Wow! We barely made it home and the skies opened up…snort!…My friend was practically dragging us home from our walk, where we like to meander and sniffle and stop and stare at nothing in particular…grunt!…Well, tonight we made it home in record time and thank dawg…wheeze!…Nice down pour going on…heh!…Someone here is happy because of all the watering restrictions her mother’s lawn was looking pretty dern brown…snort!
9:53 pm on June 4th, 2013
Wow!…I wonder if the Iditarod is going to suspend Mackey…heh!heh!…If only….snort!…I really hope there are no Rockies players on that suspension list…wheeze!
10:01 pm on June 4th, 2013
I think Lance Mackey’s good fortunes in the Iditarod have come and gone. This is not to take anything away from the success he has had in winning the race.
As always, I could be wrong.
10:02 pm on June 4th, 2013
NO!….Some dumb fan reached out an caught a Tulo homer…sniff!…Now they are reviewing the play…grunt!…This Homer would Tie the game.
10:03 pm on June 4th, 2013
WHEW!…They called it a fair homerun. I hope they all beat-up on that dumb fan and his big ole glove…sniff!

Rockies Won!!
That was a close one, but a win is a win. WOO WOO
10:39 pm on June 4th, 2013
Bella – when Gramp found out you were in DC, he asked if maybe you might be coming up here for a visit. (we think maybe he has a little crush on you)
So, anyway, how about it? Huh, huh? Mama said she would make another lasagna, and she won’t make you get on a stage and talk to people. She also said to tell you that we found out the air conditioner wasn’t working last year, and now we have a new one.
10:56 pm on June 4th, 2013
Rebecca!…Do not fall for the Kats scheme…sniff!…Who knows what will happen to you…gah!
Goodnight!… Pooped out and puddled up here…sniff!yawn!

A person necessarily help to make seriously articles I would state. That is the very first time I frequented your web page and up to now? I surprised with the analysis you made to create this actual post extraordinary. Excellent process!
