It’s moldy, moldy, moldy everywhere here. Nobody feels very well. Mommy has a headache. The rain is supposed to stop finally by tomorrow. It can’t happen too soon for us.

By the way, Rio, Mom watches (and therefore, we watch)Dancing with the Stars faithfully. Maybe it’s because she is only a very average dancer and has dreams of becoming more graceful. We really don’t care…we just crowd around her and nap!

Morning everyone. Taking a coffee break from our supervisory positions under the work table.
Things are getting done around here, by cracky. Mama works and works and works. And in this heat, dinners are quick affairs of salads or fruit or sandwiches. Gramp actually asked her to make stew the other day. She said no.

Then she went to the Mud Room and banged her head against the wall.

Anyway – stay cool wherever you can.

Luna: How’d you get Belle Starr to wait so patiently for the book? She loves Chet and Bernie that muchI can tell.

    Greetings!

Chase, all dogs go to heaven. R.I.P.

Belle Starr: I look for your post everday too. They make me laugh and happy. Try not to make your two-legged think about too many things at once, since she already has a billion things to think about. Try the kitty first. Bat your eyelashes over your lovely brown eyes, tilt you head, and give her the look that says…”Pretty please, with a cherry on top.”

Hot here and no rain, but still can’t go outside due to blood suckers.

Barb is meeting daughter Shannon for her birthday lunch. One of the gifts she is giving her is the darling kitty placemat that we got in the auction. Arrived from the North Pole recently. Shannon is a total cat person, so she is gonna love it. Josh said “why didn’t you buy four?” We said because it was a one of a kind placemat. Shannon really doesn’t cook, so it will be used as a center piece decoration for her table. Totally adorable!

    12:47 pm on July 10th, 2013

Dawson – Mama always had one Corgi, until Gilly’s sad little face looking through the bars of a cage popped up on her computer screen. She went and got Gilly, and now says that she will always have Corgis in pairs. We are herding dogs and we like to work with our compatriots, so it just makes sense that we are happier having another Corgi around all the time.
She would love to get another Corgi, but we say no unless she can grow another hand to pet with. Right now, Gilly and I have dibs on the two she has.

Rio: There is also a person who walks around with two pugs. One tan, one black.

Oh! I got the second half of the prize in the mail just now. Thank you Pug, it fits perfectly!
I am happy to have been able to donate a few pennies to the Have Harness, Will Travel Fund.

I loved the tribute to CHarris on Snowhook Blog and would like to thank CHarris and all those who sent dog jackets on behalf of the Plunderers, (or tried to locate them without success) with a special shout out to my sister, Staff, who was tenacious/persistent on the telephone tracking down jackets. We here would like to pay homage (bowing) to CHobbit and to all of youse who drove all over the place getting those beeautiful jackets. We called the stores anywhere near us with no luck. We even tried a few out of state that were within sort of driving distance. But we drew the line much narrower than you tenacious ones. Thank youse!
Mom is no longer able to keep those chickies in their run. Every time she or Pop open the gate, they get closer to getting out until, just now, with Meashka keeping watch, Fern got out!!! Mom grabbed and threw her back in, and then had a heart attack, and then nursed her scratched up arm. Meashka, meantime, just sat and watched. Patience, Grasshopper.

Oleys, Are they just getting out thru an open gate? What if they fly over the top when your folks are gone? Our fence was 4 feet high, but we had one hen that could get over and was always loose in the back yard.

Barb is back from lunch. She said Shannon loved the placemat. Also gave her a Dunkin Dougnuts gift card, a book, and a set of wiper blades for her car. I know wiper blades are not very glamorous, but she needed a set for her little red Hyundi, which she calls her tomato.

Speaking of tomatoes, we got our first today – no big ones ready yet, just 2 small Yellow Pear tomatoes. Still exciting if you are a tomato junkie.

  36. O'Howlers

Barb, there is no top to jump over, darn it. The top of the run has the same metal roof as the coop. Those chicks rush the gate and try their hardest to squeeze out whenever Mom or Pop go in.

We did not see Chicken Run. Should we? Will it give us some good ideas?

  37. Rose

Chickens are running?? Can I herd them, huh, huh, can I, huh, huh? I’m a really good herder, really and truly. Come on, let me at em – I’ll herd those chickens so fast they will think they are Olympic runners.

  41. Riö – The Evil Pug
    4:49 pm on July 10th, 2013

Howlers!…If your friends would put up mirrors along the chicken coop walls, this would confuse them and they wouldn’t know where the gate was….snort!…Plus, you would have way more chickens…heh!

  42. O'Howlers
    4:51 pm on July 10th, 2013

Thanks, Princess. Whose side are you on? 🙁
As a matter of fact, we heard them planning something like that. They called an airlock. They have this portable garden fencing they were planning to use later, to extend the run. Well, “later” has become “sooner”. So there will be a fence outside that fence.
Here is what it looks like. We have no way of breaking in there (yet) .

  43. Barb & Maggie
    4:58 pm on July 10th, 2013

That is one beautiful coop!!!! Here is another suggestion. Chickens love treats. If you save veggie scraps or bread or have chicken scratch for them, throw a little to the side and call them over (here chick, chick, chick). They will run over to the treats and it will give you time to get in the gate. Might be easier and cheaper than mirrors.

  48. Riö – The Evil Pug
    5:26 pm on July 10th, 2013

    MPM, Stay safe!

Rio, Your mirror idea is definitely more interesting than treats. The bagged poop, not so much.

Barb’s five chickens (including Peaches), who are living outside Woodstock, still come running when Barb goes over there and calls them. They are much smarter than people give them credit for.

From way back when Chicks were still dinosaurs, I kept a small tin of feed (covered) next to the door. Then I would open the top half of the door and throw it as far back as possible. Entry and Exit much easier. Mirrors? I would probably get lost myself.

I did a great deal today. Most of it on the phone with VW. Trying to add a new cell phone. Jeeze Louise. I finally just hung up. YSAS is going to help me out. He’s going to go to their store and ask a lot of questions.

By the time I was going to get in the pool? Deluge. Don’t have to water the gardens again.

    SiberH: Wait a minute!
I did not pick a side. I only stated some facts.
    I am completely neutral.

Geeze!…How long does thunder and lightning last in Tennessee? I hope Brother Redbone is bottling up some of that lightning-shine for the next party…woooo!…I have a feeling we will not be bothered with any of that rain type stuff once again tonight…grunt!…What little we have had has not lasted very long at all. It made no difference to anything that lives outside all day long…grunt!

Question!….Here is a question for all you late-nighters…snort!…Why does Staff feed AbbieTheKat so late?…sniff!…It was almost midnight (their time) last night when Abbie was getting her bowl of fatty, gooey morsels…grunt!…Why so late? And this is not the first time I have noticed this late feeding time either…sniff!

I thought the same thing about Staff and Abbie when I read that late night post this morning.

We are going to sleep now. The Rockies could win this late game.
I will go out on a limb and say I think they will win.

    Night All

SiberH!….We here will be following you to bed very soon…sniff!…Someone is very tired because she is at the busy-damned-place all on her own except for a Newbie…grunt!…He is helpful, but he flies through things that usually take her hours to do because she looks at everything – him, not so much….grunt!…So she is tired from trying to keep up with everything while her real partner is on vacation this whole damned week…grunt!…Sounds like a real-life nightmare to me…gah!…Two more days! Two more days!…wheeze!

Macy: Duly noted. I will be traveling tomorrow for work, but will be in a jet. I’d hate to see that bear’s jet sized brother. Yeep!

I have to be up at the crack of dark. Nighty nutter butters.

If there was a prize for rounding up the most dog jackets, Staff would win it (and special thanks to Dawson for helping). But all phone calls and attempts to procure said jackets whether successful or not were much appreciated. I am in awe of those who kept trying again and again without success–such commitment to our favorite kennel! This is going to be a great season…

I am in Anchorage. Long trip. The sedative for Sadie (a double doze one hour apart) did not work so the long trip was much longer. On a positive note: going up and down mountains made my ear drain and relieved some of the pressure. Still can’t hear well, three more days of medicine to go.
