Good morning, everyone! Sad news about Keys.
Have a wow Wednesday since it is Wednesday, all ready.
8:40 am on December 3rd, 2014
Mornin’ though another drab one here. The rain stopped (for now), but it is dank.
We learn so much on this here blog. Sadly, we did not know who
Bobby Keys was.
8:44 am on December 3rd, 2014
He did that neat sax part in the Stones “Brown Sugar” a bazillion years ago.
8:54 am on December 3rd, 2014
We didn’t know who he was either, but then we were never big Stones fans. That is probably a sacrilege. Was he still with them or was he a former Stone?
8:58 am on December 3rd, 2014
Although jazz sax is more my thing, Bobby Keys was one of the best at his craft, having appeared on albums by The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Joe Cocker, to name but a few.
9:00 am on December 3rd, 2014
Ah, but Masquers, he blew a cool horn (we know it wasn’t technically a horn).
9:20 am on December 3rd, 2014
Hello All–We’re getting REAL RAIN!!! I’m happy about that, not so happy about having to drive through it.
About to begin another 11/12-hour day, I find myself thinking about Siber-H and his family, and all of you. Be well, travel safely if you’re going somewhere, and have a wonderful day.
9:28 am on December 3rd, 2014
Stay safe, Diane. We heard that they are worried about that storm that is hitting California. They are expecting mudslides.
9:30 am on December 3rd, 2014
Bobby Keys was 70.
Good morning all.
9:36 am on December 3rd, 2014
OH, not only that, but all the “transplanted” Californians (from places with weather) forget how to drive when the roads get wet!
9:48 am on December 3rd, 2014
O’H and HOH–I’m hoping for a brief window of clearance during my drive time. (I started to write something abut mudslides, then decided not to lest I jinx something.) I’ll watch out for the other guys…
10:11 am on December 3rd, 2014
DianeC., be saf 🙂
10:11 am on December 3rd, 2014
SAFE…the “e” key is sticking 🙁
10:15 am on December 3rd, 2014
With the drought, much of the area has been “defoliaged” which will add to the mudslide problems. 25″ low in LA area before this rain.
Have been busy painting this morning. Final coat on the table top. Still streaky but I give up. 1 chair has been sanded, had deglosser applied, 1 coat of primer and first coat of black put on. Done for now. Time to get cleaned up and go shopping.
10:37 am on December 3rd, 2014
Dawson is muttering about plane tickets….we here live in hope. Mr.Staff and I are going to ND for a quick trip today and coming back on Friday.
Poor Dawson will be alone with the pater (and 4 cats – two of whom are kittens). Wish her well.
10:39 am on December 3rd, 2014
Staff, mom visited ND in ’67 and again in ’84.
10:58 am on December 3rd, 2014
Hello everyone. Nothing much happening to make for an interesting post. But we are packaging up some auction goodies to ship to their new homes.
Cubby is helping.
Oh dear.
11:03 am on December 3rd, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, lucky you! Mom is following Barb’s lead since it is “old fart” Wed. at the market. Hope there are some good deals!

Good morning all.
This Iditarod Trail update from the Alaska Dispatch News:

12:50 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Big accident on the way to the market so I stopped for lunch. By golly, AJ’s post about the trail was right! It looks like the “Farewell Freeway”!
1:30 pm on December 3rd, 2014
C.Hobbit: Thank You for that link to the interesting ADA Article.
Nice to see Improvements are being Made in one part of the Trail at least.
Market. We Can’t Go because the Roads are still too Icy. The Pantry is three quarters full so we’re Okay for Now.
1:43 pm on December 3rd, 2014
BSD: I love what Jeff King said at the end of the article: “I hope they can drive a dozer down the Dalzell Gorge next.” Siber-H would really appreciate this article.
1:48 pm on December 3rd, 2014
BSD: When I lived up north, I used to stock up big time heading into winter. For 18 years I lived 30-45 minutes away from a grocery store and it is no fun having to shop when it was -30 or -40 or -50 or -60. When I moved to North Pole, the store was 5-10 minutes away but the winter temps were still a problem. Now I live 5 minutes from two major grocery stores depending if I want to make a left or right turn in traffic.
Snowbella: I haven’t mailed my auction check yet but will aim for tomorrow.
2:37 pm on December 3rd, 2014
SnowBella: Ditto to what C.Hobbit said!
3:07 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Day!…What a day I am having…grunt!…I just want to close my eyes and make it all go away…wheeze!
3:23 pm on December 3rd, 2014
So Sorry, Rio. If it will help we can make you FOoD for December 3rd. That should Cheer You up.
Big Thanks to BlueCat for the Helpful Suggestion last night. How to turn Blog Photos right-side-up. We right clicked and viewed and it Worked Like a Charm.
3:52 pm on December 3rd, 2014
CHobbit: I’m happy to see that picture of the Farewell Burn Freeway. I expect fewer bruises all around for the mushers in 2015.
I finally found Abby sleeping on the hard wood floor next to the radiator in the upstairs living room. I put a cushy fleece blanket down for her but as the kitties had used it, she turned up her nose. Later I noticed her body was on the soft blanket but her head and nose was not. She does not like the smell of those little kitties! No she does not!
Alice was in the back of the closet as usual, while the 2 kitties were in the basket by the window in Staff’s bedroom, probably Abby’s spot.
Alice came downstairs just now and I gave her some treats and she let me pet her, but briefly. She is most likely not happy that those kitties are in Staff’s room, so close to the closet. Harumpf!
3:53 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Rio, I feel your pain. While waiting for accident to clear, little old man scraped the side of the scooteroo. I was ready to evicerate him but thank dog only a slight scrape that
WD40 should remove.
6:02 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Is the blog working? Where is everyone?
Rio, bad day at home or bad day at the busy place?
My head is so full of cotton with this cold, that I totally forgot a wonderfluffing appointment today, and I NEVER forget appointments.
6:09 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Barb – we have been here, but our Mama is out to lunch. And she doesn’t even have a cold to blame for it.
Poor Rio. Poor HOH Scooteroo. Poor Barb. Poor Alice. Poor Starving BSD.
Seems we aren’t the only ones having an off day. But unlike you all, WE have Wrotten Kats to deal with on top of it all.
waaaahhhhhhh
6:12 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Someone Here has a bad tummy ache…which is not improving the Mood of the Day…so will see youse tomorrow – Bear
6:19 pm on December 3rd, 2014
This will sound strange but the best thing for a stuffed up head is: Boil water and put it in a bowl; put your head over the bowl and a towel over your head and breathe in the steam. It works.
6:28 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Back in the dark ages, we called it a “vaporizer” and used Vicks with it. Stinks, but works.
6:29 pm on December 3rd, 2014
It has been that kind of day. Our large (by square miles) school district includes two towns with high elevations. They ice up when everyone else just has rain. So no school today! It is nice to have the day off unexpectedly but we will pay for it in June. I have been grading papers most of the day.
I wish good health to everyone. My house swears by “Simply Saline”. It is a gentle spray can of water with saline in it. The best!
6:30 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Is the moon in a weird phase or have the planets gotten some wonky allignment?
What is going on? We are ready for beddy bye here. Will try to keep eyelids from meeting each other in the middle.
6:41 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Sheesh it sounds like a post Auction let-down from here. We are safe at the farm after an easy drive on a bright sunny day.
Tomorrow I get to listen to the kidney doc tell me I am doing fine, and get my flu shot and hopefully a shingles vaccine shot also.
Then, since the timing was perfect I get to go to my quilt clubs annual holiday party. I haven’t been able to do that for several years so it will be a big treat. Mr.Staff will stay home and I don’t have a clue what he will eat. We did bring eggs, butter, bread, milk and some apples.
6:47 pm on December 3rd, 2014
I’ve used Simply Saline also but it doesn’t work as well as the steam.
6:55 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Sounds like a little mini sauna. I believe I will try it before going to bed. I cough so much when I go to bed that sleeping is difficult. How long do you suggest staying under the towel and breathing in the steam?
7:00 pm on December 3rd, 2014
I think I have some Vics. Would that help?
Staff, have fun at your party. Don’t get too crazy. I know how you are.
7:10 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Barb, get some Mucinex for your lungs. It keeps the mucus loose.
7:10 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Barb, Vicks is a real plus. 15- 20 min. of steam should do it and then put an extra pillow under your hear to elevate it slightly. A cup of sleepytime or sweet dreams herbal tea (chamomile like) with honey can help the throat too. We’ve been there more than once.
7:11 pm on December 3rd, 2014
GAH!…I knew it. I knew someone would blow her stack when she saw what Mother did today….grunt!…All of my friends Chet N Bernie books and all of the OTHER very precious autographed books and baseballs were moved willy-nilly downstairs into a cold dark back bedroom today….gah!….Mother did not even bother to put them back in the little bookshelf my friend had specially for them. She just threw them onto a bed and left most of them in a bag…grump!…When my friend got home and saw this, she was over the top M-A-D! She is fuming and spitting right now!….growl!…I knew this would happen, but Mother seems to think she can put her paws all over other guys special stuff with no regard to their feelings on the matter….sniff!
7:13 pm on December 3rd, 2014
And Rio, mom has been doing Airborne before going out in crowds (library/store) and on her return. She hears lots of wheezing and coughing but, so far, so good. Thank your pugliness!
7:14 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Sorry about your special things, Rio.
7:15 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Barb – til it stops being steamy. And do try adding a scoop of vicks. really helps clear things out.
Not sure how many of you have Trader Joe’s stores in your area, but we took Gramp to one today, for his first visit. what a riot.
For those of you who don’t have them, TJ’s is a neighborhood style grocery store of organic and exotic groceries, gourmet foods at family prices. Today we got French Truffle Chevre, Dark Chocolate Covered Shortbread crisps, Fig and Olive Crisps crackers, and gingerbread pancake mix.
Gramp walked around picking everything up, reading it, and commenting favorably on it. The manager came over to see if everything was ok – we explained that this was Gramp’s first time. The manager brought him a piece of their Butter Cookie Crumb Cheesecake and a cup of coffee, and told him to have a great time. And he did!
7:17 pm on December 3rd, 2014
We got our 2nd CSA share today. It had butternut squash, some other squash, white carrots, mushrooms, cabbage, and this:

Can someone please identify it?
7:17 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Awww Rio – your Friend has every right to be upset. We would be spitting made too!
7:19 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Howlers – that is a kohlrabi. Great recipes online, or you can eat it raw
7:19 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Snarl!…I’m pretty sure someone here is not going to be talking to someone else for quite some time to come….grunt!..At least not unless she absolutely has to…gruffle!
7:20 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Yesterday was my horrible, terrible, no good, very bad day. Knitted dish cloths for my beloved horse rescue sales lost/stolen/kaput. Better today with a positive yearly physical exam. Maybe TMI. I want to go to bed and cover my head.
7:20 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Barb: About 15 minutes. The steam also helps with sinus headaches.
7:22 pm on December 3rd, 2014
What a great experience for Gramps! Trader Joes are great. We have one but it is a little out of our area. Their prices are really good.
Rio, Why did she move all those things? Seems like she does not respect your friend’s personal space.
MPM, We saw that product the other day, but it does seem like things are starting to loosen up a bit on their own. Will keep it in mind, so thank you.
7:25 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Thanks, T&G!
7:40 pm on December 3rd, 2014
We thought that might be a kohlrabi with its stems/leaves removed. We have tried them, but not our favorite, so never grew them. A friend used to slice them and eat them raw.
8:36 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Rio…tell your friend to buy door knobs with locks. Easy to change out with the old ones. You need to have your own space and this will make it happen for sure. Or threaten to do it if it happens again
8:56 pm on December 3rd, 2014
CHobbit!…This is not my friends house…grunt!…But she cannot continue living this way…sniff!….We will be moving in with you very soon, so get ready!…heh!
Everyone!…Check your SDD’s when you have some free snuffling time…sniff!
9:37 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Rio: You are always welcome here (and I would stop fostering kittens for you). Bring extra Slim Jims. Sadie not happy that you blabbed to the blog that she eats too much (hence all the “deposits”). She said something like “he slept in my bed, he ate my food and this is how he repays my hospitality.” I am sure all would be forgiven and forgotten if you showed up with treat in paw.
I would still change the doorknobs. There ought to be one room that is yours. She violates your space = you violate hers by changing the locks.
9:48 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Rio – the Committee concurs with a Very Wise Hobbit.
10:15 pm on December 3rd, 2014
We checked our SDD, thank you for the update.
We are saying Night all.
10:30 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Sigh. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.
Thanks for the update.
Good night, all.
10:45 pm on December 3rd, 2014
Respect!…No, I have a feeling my friend will quietly pack up our stuff and find us a hobbit-hole of our own iffen there is no resolve in the upcoming days…sniff!…I’m sure we will be leaving Beau behind if we do move out. It will be just me and my friend again like the good ole days…heh!…I can’t wait!
10:52 pm on December 3rd, 2014
I am now considering changing my moniker to “A Very Wise Hobbit.” heh
10:52 pm on December 3rd, 2014
December!….I’ve been thinking back as far as one pug can think back and it always seems like December is a very hard month in more ways than one to get through…grunt!…Why the hell is that? I remember as a young pup that December was a happy month of Christmas and Joy Abounding and Presents and lots of Cookies and all kinds of other good stuff over and over again…snorkel!…I have very fond memories of Decembers long gone…snuffle!….Lately, every single December has brought heartache and worry and more heartache. I just can’t figure it all out. I have pondered it this way and that and it never really comes out right…grunt!
11:46 pm on December 3rd, 2014
ReThink!….I guess like Joni Mitchell I will have to re-think December for myself…snort!….Goodnight all. Tomorrow is a new day for all of us…snuffkin!
2:57 am on January 3rd, 2015
Hey there! This post could not be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of
my old room mate! He always kept chatting about this.
I will forward this article to him. Pretty sure he will have a
good read. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on decorative concrete.
