Quiz Questions, Anybody?
“I hear,” says Admin, “that at some of your signings you give a pop quiz?”
“True,” says Spence.
“With Chet and Bernie frisbees as prizes?”
“Usually two or three.”
“How about we ask for some quiz question suggestions today?”
“Let’s go for it. Okay, everybody, if you have a pop quiz question suggestion – having anything to do with the Chet and Bernie stories – just write it down in the comments section. Here’s Colby, a recent winner.”
Welcome frogging dude.

Why is Chet’s ear not white on some of the book covers?
9:31 am on October 17th, 2012
Colby looks happy. Here’s a quiz question: What does Chet do at the end of Thereby Hangs a Tail?
Good morning all.
9:39 am on October 17th, 2012
Hi ChocolateLab, That is something we have wondered about for some time. There cover for “To Fetch A Thief” had Chet with a white ear (you can see it at the bottom of the page) but when the book went to press his ear was no longer white. We believe it has to do with the publisher’s wishes.
Hi B.Stover! I remember one pop quiz question I got wrong on the blog and you got right! How many galaxies does Bernie say there is?
And now for something just beautiful (though there is a 2 second picture of an owl for those who don’t like owls) . .

Thank you, Melanie. I needed that.
And thank you, everyone, for the Power of the Plundererss. My mom crossed the bridge yesterday afternoon, and I am at peace.
Dawson, my heart iw with you. I encourage you to involve hospice once your mom starts that final passage. I cannot begin to tell you how much they blessed us. I regret not involving them sooner.
10:31 am on October 17th, 2012
Wolfie, please take extra good care of your mom, and know that my love and prayers are with you both.
10:32 am on October 17th, 2012
We agree with Wolfie, Hospice is wonderful.
We are sorry for your loss, Mary.

Mary, We are sorry for your loss.
We read what T&G wrote last night about the Elders saying this is a time of transition. We believe they are right.
The Navajo Elders in this state knew about the Hanta Virus decades before the medical doctors figured it out. Of course, the Navajo didn’t call it Hanta Virus.

Love the photo of the Border Collie!
A story with a happy ending:
A 15 year old Golden Retriever was lost for two months in the mountains of NM. His family is from Texas and the dog got out of the tent while they were camping. The dog had a microchip so when a state employee accidentally stumbled across the dog, it was easy to locate his owners in Texas. The owner immediately drove here from Texas to be reunited with his dog. It is a miracle the dog survived those two months.

Thanks for the wonderful video Melanie. Its true that we live ina a remarkable, beautiful world. How lucky we are for that.

Mary, I’m with you.

Siber – H, that is a wonderful story. It still does not explain why a cat was found in Michigan that had a chip that was registered to the Giant.

Bella, I loved having goats. I did not have pigmy goats, that might have been easier. Just know that you don NOT want the male goat. They are sweet, but they smell. I still can not eat goat cheese because of the slight scent of musk.
Also the saying “H***** as an Old Goat”? That’s true.

Oh, one more thing . .
MA had an earthquake last night. It started near Portland, ME and headed out. 4.6! Didn’t feel a thing here. There was shaking to the east, north, south and west of us.
We are on a particular type of geological upthrusting of rock than all around us. We didn’t feel the last one either.

I’m wondering why my comment about the winner of the Man Booker Prize is being moderated.

Mary, we are glad that you were able to spend time with your mother, and that hospice worked so well. It is good to be at peace.
Melanie, thanks for that video. It is one we all should view when we are feeling down. It truly is a wonderful world. And by the way, who doesn’t love owls?
Siber, did you see the frogging dude, new FOC today? He looks like one of us, at least part of him.
12:23 pm on October 17th, 2012
Fellow Sibers, He does look like one of us. There are some good pictures of Sibers on FOC.
12:26 pm on October 17th, 2012
Gus and BooBear,
No, Mom will not change her mind. She has been telling us for several years that she is ready to go.
She repeated that to the hospice people who were here this morning. TurtleMan, Dad, Mom and I had all our questions answered and Mom is signed up. We don’t need lots of help right now, but will need more as this progresses.
I feel way more relaxed about this now that I know we have backup and lots of help for when we need it.
Do you know they even have musicians that will come and play any kind of music for you? Mom decided she didn’t want a musician but she is having an occasional hand and foot massage. 😀
Later we will have someone come in for bathing and I can even get up to 4 hours of time off if the TurtleMan can not relieve me.
So grateful. I know it is the power of the quilt and all the Plunderers helping with their advice and love.
Thank you guys.

Oh….blush…..I just now figured out what the “h” meant.
12:34 pm on October 17th, 2012
Not one person in the medical field suggested hospice to us. Not one. I was aware of their services only because of my FIL. I regret not invlolving them sooner. Dawson, you are very wise.
1:09 pm on October 17th, 2012
Sympathy!…Wolfie, on behalf of my friend and I, we want to send our condolences to you and your family…sniffle!
1:30 pm on October 17th, 2012
I had heard of hospice. It is very big in North Dakota. But Melanie wrote and really suggested it to me. She heard of it through Amalia and Leonard. Dawson probably knew all about it before. Mom’s main Dr. is the one who suggested it to us. Their medical center has a hospice connected with them and they were right there to help. Wonderful.
Even Dad is OK with this. He thought hospice meant they would take Maggie someplace else. That is why he was grouchy. Neither one of them wants that. They want to be together as long as they can.
1:50 pm on October 17th, 2012
Wolfie: Sending Prayers of Peace & Comfort to your family. Your mom is one of the most caring people we know.
We, too, believe what the Storyteller has said is true. A Time of Transition is here. Somehow there is great comfort in knowing many of our loved ones are gathered together.
Please know how much we appreciate our friendship with each and every one of you. The Plunderers are an extraordinary group of kindred spirits joined together in love.
1:51 pm on October 17th, 2012
Mary, we are so sorry for your loss. Glad that you feel at peace now.
Tough couple of months for the plunderers. We’re so grateful that we have each other for support and comfort.
2:14 pm on October 17th, 2012
Wolfie: Staff is the wise one doing all the caregiving for mom and dad right now. I am back in Canada for the winter. I am glad you are with your mum, supporting her at this difficult time.
Staff: Thanks for updating us. Hospice sounds like they are very willing to work with whatever mom wants so that makes me much calmer about this whole process.
I am on a borrowed computer. Mine has had a breakdown so I will probably be absent for a day or two.
2:49 pm on October 17th, 2012
We want to also go on the record to say that Hospice care is truly a blessing – for the patient and for the family.
Please – if there is someone you know who may be dealing with end of life issues, contact Hospice and talk. It does not have to be about cancer, as many people believe, nor does the patient have to be at the very end of their journey.
You may be amazed at the things they can help with.
2:58 pm on October 17th, 2012
It is good to know of the benefits of Hospice. It has been a blessing to many.
Somehow those of you going through these most difficult of times are offering comfort to the rest of us. Thank you for what you have shared.
3:18 pm on October 17th, 2012
First of all, condolences to Wolfie’s mom. The most important thing now is that you are at peace with what happened, and you were with your mom at the end.
Hospice care, particularly in the home setting, is truly remarkable. So glad that Staff’s father now understands what is being contemplated, and that he is coming to accept it and is more comfortable with it. Being together as long as they can is just the right thing.
Wookie

Hospice continues to support us. We had the Hospice social worker here today. It is a help just talking out feelings and stresses with someone who is not family.
Mary, make sure you find out about this. Very important.

Having trouble posting with something
4:45 pm on October 17th, 2012
Zoe and I had an encounter with a snarky snake oil salesman. We tried to get the Honda inspected but needed one new tire. Off to the tire store. Never been there before. Pulled in and Zoe got out of the car. Next thing we know he said alignment, then two tires and th other people didn’t know any thing about the car. Of course, he didn’t know it was four wheel drive. He talked very fast and maneuvered Zoe inside and said four tires an alignment.
That’s when Zoe said NO THANK YOU!

Care and comfort to all who need it. In amongst all the sadness is the faith for better days ahead…so hang in there.
I’ve been home 3 days and have had to shovel my driveway twice! {{{sigh}}} And the forecast is for two more days of snow this week. {{{sigh}}} I really thought I could hike for a couple of more weeks but it doesn’t look promising. I hate going to the gym for exercise but as soon as this cold is over that is where I’ll be heading.
5:58 pm on October 17th, 2012
CHobbit: Shoveling the driveway sure seems like exercise to us!

I have so much to learn about this gluten stuff. A couple of days ago I ate a Progresso soup with chicken and wild rice in a broth. A few hours later I splorted so back to read the label and then to find out what modified food starch is. Well, now that I’m healing so well from the gluten and my body has no tolerance built up for it anymore, I’m having a massive over-reaction. I was warned about this happening. Dinner last night, gone, breakfast this morning, gone, and now tonight’s dinner, gone.

Colby is our friend! We are happy he won a frisbee!
7:14 pm on October 17th, 2012
Different methods had been tried—by hue of cream to bright orange, contrasting color scheme, and according to sharpness of flavor. Nothing seemed right, yet after several tries, a decision was finally made. The paws of a certain cat arranged the slices of cheese on the platter by personal preference.
It was a special day, and the cat—whiskers tinged orange with the guilt of taste-testing—wanted everything just so. Two-leggeds were a rare occurrence on this side of the Bridge, but dibs were called and there are no call backs on dibs. Others had welcomed family members and loved ones across the Bridge recently and now it was her turn. She would sit next to the New Comer as the hundred yard stare cleared the fog, through the tears and wonderings of Realization, and then purr through the joy of Full and Perfect Knowledge. It always happened in this order on this side of the Bridge, and despite the tears on the Other Side, it was a joyous occasion here.
The veil had been thinned and crossed many times in the recent past and would be in the coming days because of tears, the tears of the Other Side. Woflie has been working overtime and those on this side of the Bridged passed through the thin veil to offer assistance, to dry the tears of the heart, to encourage sleep when worried minds refused to rest, and to offer emotional head bumps and purrs as necessary. They—those on this side of the Bridge—took it in shifts. No one was ever left alone, not the one who sat at the bedside of her mother or those who grieve in different ways.
Wolife had done well, but now he could rest and tend to his mother. Ready for the newest of comers, the certain cat patted the slices of cheese in place, licked her paw and waited. She was ready. “We got a two-legged!” she meowed to those around her.
Tails wagged, mouths drooled, kats purred. Tears first, then joy—it always happens in this order from one side of the Bridge to the other.
7:15 pm on October 17th, 2012
Yup, that modified food starch is not good. Neither is modified corn starch or modified anything. Why do they have to put wheat in corn starch?
I hear you (well, I’ll miss the splorting) MollyPop’s Mom.

Dear Creator, where in your heart you hold billions of galaxies with their billions of stars dancing together in stately bound rhythms, please hear our prayer.
From your vastness to our small planet you gave the spark of life. To our group that has bound together, you have given the spark of love. Please hear our prayer.
Your beautiful universe lives within us all on a microscopic level. If we had the ability to see within our bodies we would find your universe yet again.
But sometimes the Universe within goes awry. The Dance becomes confused and is tethered to the wrong partner. This accident has happened to two of our Plunderers’ loved ones. Please hear our prayer.
For Gus and BooBear’s Dad, let the love from his constellation of friends and family help steady the doctor’s hand and heart as their dad starts the road to recovery. He is a treasure to his family. Please hear our prayer.
For Al and Callie, let the love from their constellation of friends and family help steady the surgeon’s hand and heart as Callie starts the road to recovery. She is a treasure to her family. Please hear our prayer.
Dear Creator, sometimes our dance falters and the rhythm starts again slightly weaker.
For Terry’s mom, let the love from her constellation of friends and family help her to a greater recovery. She is a treasure to her family. Please hear our prayer.
Dear Creator, every one of your stars and your galaxies has a limited time. Some dance the dance a short while while others dance through the eons. Thank you for the courage of those who know that their fight will soon be over.
For Maggie, Bruce and their family, let the love from their constellation of friends and family help Maggie become ready for this next stage of life. Maggie’s courage is a light that shines on all of us. She is a treasure to her family. Please hear our prayer.
For Wölfie’s Grandma and her family, each of us grieve in a different way and it is hard for the one who is tune with the Dance to see someone that we love leave us. May the love from Wölfie’s Grandma’s constellation of friends and family ease her path to you as she dances with her loved one on a rainbow ribbon. She is a treasure to her family. Please hear our prayer.
Dear Creator, our quilt of friends have had many sorrows lately. We know we only see through the mirror darkly and that only you have the fullness of knowledge, and we can only hope that someday we might see more.
For our loved ones who have gone across that Rainbow Bridge, be they two legged or four pawed, let the love of their constellations of family and friends help them to join your dance of your Universe. They are all treasures to their families. Please hear our prayer.
Dear Creator, where in your heart you hold billions galaxies with their billions of stars dancing together in stately bound rhythms, please hear our prayer.

My family, dysfunctional as you know, are all hugging right now. I have no clue what is going on.
10:24 pm on October 17th, 2012
Beau: I shudder at te thought of denying Rio a meat or meat like product, but if you insist, here you go. Whoa! Gah! How did I end up in this here hole with Rio. Oh well, serves me right for making Rio want for a Jim of the slim variety.
Sam: Hugging is good. Make sure you get included.
Staff: it seems like that is the nature of grieving—fits and starts.

Rio, The Giants game was delayed for hours.
I am getting sleepy. Mom just informed me I can’t drive if I am sleepy so I shall leave in the morning for Colorado. Rio, the hole you dug will keep you warm tonight. Dirt is the second best thing after snow for curling up in and spending the night.
Night All

Perfect, Melanie. Hugs
Mom here. My MIL has been on hospice for a year. Through it my FIL gets a lot of help, even housework . It has been a real blessing for him. Wanda has Alzheimer’s and is very difficult to move around, and we don’t have to worry about Dad having a heart attack from trying to move her.
More hugs Mary.
Macy and mom out.

Rio: No worries about the dirt in my eyes. I’m sorry I still had a hold of your curly tail and you plopped right back in the hole. I sent a text to your friend to let her know where you’re staying the night. Lucky for me I have these long legs and can’t step out of the hole at my leisure.
G&BB and Al and Callie: my thoughts, prayers and love are with you for the surgeries tomorrow.
All youse who need it, stay tucked in the quilt. You’re in good company.
Night all.

Melanie, we went to bed after reading the prayer. But now we are up, and re-reading it because it was so beautiful along with the imagery you gave us just before.
G&BB’s family and Al and Callie, we are thinking of you and send all of our love and best wishes with you today. Feel the love of all the Plunderers with you on this journey.
