Q&A (More)
Last Saturday we invited reader questions and so many great ones came in! We’ve been answering at a pace that must seem glacial to you but the plan is to get to at least most of them – some are very similar. Anyway, Andrea Boughton writes:
“Why did you start out clearly describing Arizona but not naming it until several books in?”
Love this question! It has two answers. First, Chet may hear things from time to time without putting them together as we would. But then something might happen and it all clicks. So in the first 5 books (and remember the series can be read in any order!) the name Arizona is not mentioned. Then in The Sound and the Furry, where Chet and Bernie take a case in Louisiana, someone hearing Bernie speak asks where he’s from and Bernie says, “Arizona.”
And now we come to answer number two. There on page 93 of the 6th book I got to write: “Ha! We were from Arizona? I’d wondered about that.” You can’t imagine how much fun I had doing that! So – first, it’s about staying true to Chet’s point of view. And second it’s self-indulgence on my part. Please forgive.

OFA, We can forgive you almost anything except hurting Chet or Bernie.
We really liked how Chet learn to count above two!
Wonderful weekend to all

I guess my question is how can OFA locate a sentence in a specific book on a specific page? The question he answered today references two different books. Is his memory that good or is there some kind of magic software that he uses?

Sadie says that if I keep calling her a “good kitty,” she is going to blur to Rio’s house to live. She feels outnumbered by kitties in this household anyway and I am rubbing her nose in it.
I told her that if she would stop eating the leftover kitty food, I will try to remember to not call her a kitty. I also said that Rio’s home has something called “Mother Jail” and the weather is worse than in Alaska. Rio, I trust if she shows up at your door, you will tell her to go home and close the door.

Self!…Indulgence on our favorite authors part is very welcome…snort!…I know it well myself…heh!…I’m sure technology helped him to locate the exact pages…chuckle!
Sadie!…Youse are welcome here any time. To be called a Kitty day after day must be the worst humiliation….grunt!…Come live here and I will introduce you to the backyard which is all covered in wood and excellent to pee on…wheeze!…Tree guys are quarantined and won’t be back till after Turkey Day!…sniff!

Question!… Speaking of Turkey my friend wants to know who here believes in stuffing the turkey or Not Stuffing the turkey…grunt!…Her and Mother go round and round on the issue each year..sniff!

Rio: I’ve been hearing for a few years not to stuff the turkey. I do find it less flavorful cooked separately but then again I want to be safe eating it. Perhaps a real turkey (small and organic vs big and factory farmed) would be the deciding factor?

Organic!…snort!…Who the hell has time or energy to source out organic anything…sniff! …Our biggest grocery store had a “Buy a Ham and get a Turkey Free” deal. So my friend went for that…grunt!…The ham will be split in half and the turkey as well. My friend will take over a prepared dinner (without extras) to relatives on Thursday. But she assures me she will be cooking and baking all day Wednesday….yeeeep!…Thanksgiving early for meez!…yelp!

Rio: I have a feeling you and Mother will be bothering Friend all day Wednesday. Be careful or at least one of you might find yourself out in the cold and it will probably be you.
I think the day before Thanksgiving we should all confess to our biggest Thanksgiving mistakes (about cooking food Rio, not relatives or eating too much)

Relatives!…Don’t get me started on Them!…grump!
Peep!…I’m not uttering a peep on the cooking day before Thanksgiving…wuffle!….I will be under foot and looking for anything on the floor. But I will not be yeeping!yeeping! for handouts…sniff!…No, not I.
