Merry Estival or Midsummer Solstice. Happy Litha.

We started our 80s yesterday and it is hot today but not as hot as it’s going to be for the next 10 days or more. Midsummer, humph. This is the start of summer as this hot weather will go through July, August, September and possibly into October. One year it lasted until almost mid November. I know I’m spoiled as other locations have it worse, but you have to remember, I’ve lived here so long that anything below 68 is cold and anything above 72 is hot. I have developed a very narrow zone of temperate.

That doesn’t mean OFA shouldn’t swing by this neck of the woods for a little book reading and signing once Bark to the Future is released. As hot or cold as the weather might be, it’s still pretty tolerable.

At least the pollen levels have dropped and poor Diana is doing great. Still keeping an eye on her in case it isn’t just trees she’s allergic to.

Mlaiuppa!…So in you utopia you never have to suffer -20 below and try to walk on ice? ..sniff!..You never have to swelter in 100 plus degrees with 90 percent humidity and try to keep your garden alive?…snuffle!…I want to live where you live. Where is that by the way?…gurgle!

No -20s but in the winter I can visit the snow and ice. In the winter it would be rare to drop as far as 32 where I am. There are some areas farther inland where it does get colder, but 20s would be rare, so -20 unheard of.

We have had 100+ but not for long. It might peak mid afternoon and then come right back down into the 90s and it won’t do that for more than a few days. It would have to be a Santa Ana, winds from the desert, during peak heat of the summer. Probably August. 90% humidity? Well, we have had some bad humidity for a few days and with heat over 80, but again, not for more than a few days and probably not 90%. I do remember one time in the late 90s we had 80-90s with extreme humidity for about 10-11 weeks from Labor Day to around Veteran’s Day with 80s at night but no let up on the humidity. That was extremely unusual and it hasn’t happened since. It wouldn’t cool off during the night either. Usually when we get the hot weather it at least cools off at night. It was awful. If I wanted to live in weather like that, I could move to Connecticut.

I live on San Diego, CA. Not *on* the coast but close enough. 15 min. from my driveway to the sand. In the winter I can visit the snow in about 90 min and then drive back and go to the beach. We are technically arid so everything has to be watered almost year round, depending on how much rain we get. This year, we didn’t get much.
