Gooood morning, everyone! We forgot, which way do the stripes go on the 4th of July sock, side-to-side or up and down? Lots of gooood summer reading.
9:18 am on May 28th, 2013
Good morning HOH and everyone.
Tuesday which means Bee will be back on board. Shape up youse guys!
Savanna on the Today show just mentioned “a good summer read”. Wow, She is going to be in big trouble!
Finally, into the 80s today, but rain a possibility all week.
9:21 am on May 28th, 2013
Can’t wait for the e-short story and TSATF. Oh wait! We don’t want to wish our summer away.
HOH, How is your mama feeling?
Meashka lost her fence collar while the ‘rents were away, so now we are all stuck inside. 🙁
9:25 am on May 28th, 2013
OH: Glad your ‘rents are home, oooops about the collar, and mom is fine as a frog’s hair this a.m.
B&M: Your menu yesterday sounded “delish”.
Yip! The grammar dr. will soon be home. Mind p’s, q’s and misplaced modifiers 🙂 (Come on, haven’t we all missed elicidation?)
9:30 am on May 28th, 2013
We have four days of rain and thunder. I think Spence could let me read about Iggy under these conditions. I won’t even tell a soul about it.
9:37 am on May 28th, 2013
Oleys, We agree. Excited about the new book coming out, but we want to enjoy each and every day of the summer first.
Hey, it’s almost baby chick time for you. Barb is jealous, she really misses her chickens.
9:44 am on May 28th, 2013
Sharon, fine as frogs hair is mom’s favorite answer to that question, too. Must be a southern thang.
Mornin y’all.
9:47 am on May 28th, 2013
Macy: Hey back at ya! It is, straight out of Sparta, TN and a neighbor mom knew who grew up with Lester Flatt. (or was it Earl Scruggs, she never remembers).
10:06 am on May 28th, 2013
Sammie, I agree. Desperate times and all that. (And then you could loan it to me. I won’t tell anyone, not even mom.)
10:12 am on May 28th, 2013
Colorful morning in the HOH yard! BLUE jay, GOLDfinch, GREY squirrel, PURPLE finch. Bring it on!
10:15 am on May 28th, 2013
Rose and Rio, Mom says we can donate another $25.00 to the Have Harness Will Travel fund! Emails coming shortly.

We never heard that term “frog as a frog’s hair” before, but we like it!
Mom says chickies maybe this week, B&M!
10:35 am on May 28th, 2013
FINE as a frog’s hair! Stupid paws.
11:07 am on May 28th, 2013
We are looking forward to Mama being as fine as frog hair too. Today is MRI #2 to see if her problem is coming from her back. Ok, so her leg doesn’t hurt, her back doesn’t hurt, just her knee is in screaming pain. But the doc thinks its her back, even though the first MRI showed lots of knee damage and tears and cysts and such. Where to they come up with this stuff?
sigh
Hope to be back later today.
11:09 am on May 28th, 2013
T&G, it is (past) time for the Pink Bulldozer. Grrrr
11:13 am on May 28th, 2013
Greetings!
B&M, What was the summer read Savannah mentioned?
T&G, I sure hope your mum can find a docotor that knows what he is doing. I’m worrit about her.
Gus&BooBear, Got your e-mail. Youse are really fantastic! Sending scritches and headbumps to you!
11:21 am on May 28th, 2013
Tupper and Gilly, About the back, stranger things have happened. When I had my meniscus problems it was my feet. I got orthotic insoles and after walking on them for a while the dratted meniscus healed. I had used the same orthotics for many years and for some reason they wore down….
Macy, Belle and Annie, cute picture on FOC. Love your little tail wagging away.
Going to plant a few sprouted morning glories. I had some seed left over from 2010 so I put it in a flat plate and covered it with a wet paper towel to see if any were still good. Now I have about 100 sprouted seeds and not enough room to put them. I think I will crowd them all together.
Yesterday we dug up some 18″ tall quack and found lily bulbs down under. They are now planted in a quack free zone. (I wonder how long that will last?)
Then later I get a massage and to go quilting! YaHooooo
11:23 am on May 28th, 2013
Looking forward to the e-story and The Sound and The Fury will get me through the hot summer. Mom bought a Kindle last summer just because Spence started writing e-stories. She loves the Kindle now.
We hope the Royals’ mum gets some answers soon.
Rio, In case you get to see the blog this morning, The Rockies play another afternoon game at 12:10.
Good Morning All
12:49 pm on May 28th, 2013
We can’t wait for the new book and e-story!! We were surprised that it wasn’t about the T-divorce! SQ had fun dropping us misleading clues.
1:10 pm on May 28th, 2013
Good Morning Everybody!
I am exhausted with joy! I will be getting to everything tomorrow.
Just talked to YSAS and they ended up taking a cab home. They are fine today.
Ohhhh, to have a body that feels young.
I had to use the Subaru to take them to the train. It is an hour and a half to the station. The car has a clutch. My left knee is swollen.
I went the accupuncturist today and he’s working on it. I am to keep it elevated.
That will not be a problem today.
See you all later.
1:34 pm on May 28th, 2013
Rose, Not sure of the name but it is the third Bridget Jones book. I believe she said it had been 8 years since the last one. Didn’t pay a lot of attention, because it didn’t interest us. Sorry!
1:37 pm on May 28th, 2013
B&M, Apologies not needed. I’m not a fan.
2:23 pm on May 28th, 2013
Macy – I love your wicked humor. I have told you that for many YEARS!
2:32 pm on May 28th, 2013
Staff: Last night you made a comment then about an hour later mentioned stopping the blog. THANK YOU. More than once we have felt like that. Glad to know it isn’t personal!
4:02 pm on May 28th, 2013
BSD, Did you see what happened on The Street today? 20th straight Tuesday that market closed higher, with another new record for the Dow. Happy, happy!
Also saw a headline that independent bookselling has become a growth industry! That is good news!
4:12 pm on May 28th, 2013
T & G, Barb just bought a book for herself, American Grown, the new gardening book by Michelle Obama. It is about gardening at the White House and getting young people to be more active and eating healthier foods. There is a picture in there of The Three Sisters Planting Ceremony with a blessing by Jefferson Keel. There is also a photo of another guy who looks just like The Storyteller. Did he perhaps take part in that ceremony? How cool would that be if he is in that book!
4:48 pm on May 28th, 2013
Wolfie, I haven’t heard from Spence or admin at all. I think we’re SOL.
5:35 pm on May 28th, 2013
A week ago Routes to Art was held here in the Southern Tier of Western New York. Many artists’ studios are open for visitors. This year we went to a Native Seneca who was doing basket weaving at the library. The library had some of the most beautiful and intricate baskets in a cabinet with glass doors. The woman who was making the baskets told us how this was done and showed us baskets in different stages of weaving. We thought they went to the store to get the materials. But noooo! They start with a tree! They take the bark off and start pounding the tree to get to the layers of the tree rings. These are stripped off vertically. Then many more things are done but, bottom line, the baskets are woven of these beautiful tree rings.
5:45 pm on May 28th, 2013
MP’sM -we have seen that basket making work too, from start to finish. It is amazing, and gives new meaning to the term “hand made”. We went to the “National” Basket Show in Bar Harbor, Maine a few years ago. Ok, so it was all Penobscot and Passamaquoddy basketmakers, but each one of them goes out and starts by finding the perfect ash tree, cutting it down, stripping and pounding and soaking and all. We were so pleased to know that such an ancient art was still being practiced as it had been throughout time. (They don’t even use chain saws as they think the trees would be traumatized by that)
And Barb – we wish we could claim a direct connection to the book from the White House, but alas, it must have been a good looking relative in the book.
6:15 pm on May 28th, 2013
T&G – I forgot to mention that the wood is ash and now there’s a big ash borer problem. The woman showed us a strip from an infected tree and that tree ring was all full of holes. Not totally unattractive. The baskets we saw were Seneca, of course since we were in Salamanca, but the weaver’s cousin is Mohawk and she was a big influence in her patterns too. It all was awesome!
6:23 pm on May 28th, 2013
I didn’t know that tribes had their own weaving patterns. Now I have to go back to the weaver to find out more about the Mohawk basket patterns – my great great grandmother was a Mohawk.

Iggy’s Chronicles will be released on the Giant’s birthday! Woo and hoo! I know what I’m giving him.
Hobbit! My Lady saw everyone’s favorite Hobbit today. The latter was giving the former an item—or is it items?— for the auction.
6:57 pm on May 28th, 2013
Auction!…Items! Already!…snort!snort!…We still need to get the Spring Boutique underway..heh!
HOME!…My friend finally came home from the damned-busy-place and now we are all sitting out on the patio enjoying some snacks…snort!….It is gearing up to rain and cool everything off…chuffle!
6:58 pm on May 28th, 2013
T & G, Have you met Jefferson Keel?
We have a green ash and some of the lower brances are dead this spring. We are wondering if it is infected. It is the only tree in the front yard, but because it is on the other side of thw widewalk, the city takes care of it.
7:06 pm on May 28th, 2013
Tenzing, Thank you for the heads up about the Iggy Chronicles. Not only did I pre-order it, but now I know the Giant’s birthday too! heh
Someday, I hope to meet the Hobbit. I hope it was more than two items Hobbit left for the auction.
7:08 pm on May 28th, 2013
Hoping that any of youse that are in the paths of this horrible hurricanes are safe.
7:09 pm on May 28th, 2013
Barb – we may have met him. Not sure. There are a lot of Native people in DC, and we have met so many when we have been there for events. But with most Natives, you can talk for hours, or even days about all kinds of subjects, and never once get around to names. We may know their Nation, and that their brother-in-law is a champion dancer and that their grandfather was on the Trail of Tears and that their mother makes her fry bread with real lard – but names? Who needs em?
7:31 pm on May 28th, 2013
Belle Starr, The mailman will be bringing you something soon. You, You, You!
7:34 pm on May 28th, 2013
Rate!…How does Bellie rate getting a package for no reason at all?….grunt!
7:42 pm on May 28th, 2013
RIO! She is my VBFF.
7:44 pm on May 28th, 2013
Wose: Something for me, me, me? You shouldn’t have.
Rio: the real question is why would I not?
7:49 pm on May 28th, 2013
Rio: Pay no attention to the spoiled one. When it reaches this level, it is officially termed spoilt. I hate to admit it, but I may have had a paw or four in Belle Starr being spoiled.
7:57 pm on May 28th, 2013
Amalia, We thought you might have met him, as they said he is the President of the National Congress of American Indians. It sounded like he was someone important, and we know that you are very involved. Whoever is in the photo is handsome and looks like The Storyteller. It is on page 49 if you get a chance to look at the book.
8:02 pm on May 28th, 2013
Mama Luna, you are a good mom. Of course you would want the best for your daughter (even if you spoil her just a little). whispering….did Belle Starr get a tattoo?
8:10 pm on May 28th, 2013
Spoilt!…hmmmphf!….Well, I am spoilt too if that is the case and if that is how one gets unexpected presents…grunt!…Nothing sparkly though…sniff!
8:16 pm on May 28th, 2013
Me too. Me too. I am very spoilt. Bring on the presents.
8:22 pm on May 28th, 2013
Wose: I want the best for both my girls—Belle Starr and you. I have such a hard time saying no when either of you look at me with those puppy dog eyes. About the tatoo. It depends on your interpretation of a tattoo. My mama and I both put a paw down about the tattoo so Belle Starr went to Plan B. Said plan is also known as going to the Giant if you don’t like the answer you were given by either of your mamas. She convinced the Giant to draw the ‘tattoo’ on her. Unfortunately for her, what the Giant is taller than he is artistically talented so what was to be an image if her hugging Rio looks more like Rio kissing a Kat! Also unfortunately for her, he used a permanent marker. And, if that wasn’t enough, it is on her forehead. Standing out in a couple of rain storms should do the trick, but it is sunshine in the forecast.
8:29 pm on May 28th, 2013
Kissing!….Kats!….Gah!…There better be a few downpours in Bellies near future!…grunt!
8:32 pm on May 28th, 2013
Golinka mentioned yawning a bit ago, andI have not been able to stop yawing since. Sigh zzzzzz
Oh, story . . LLL was telling us a childhood story in which her mother (played in every sport in High School and then played college basketball) decided on a quest to find LLL a sport.
When she tried baseball, LLL put the mitt on her head as a hat and picked flowers. I asked her if she also sang, she had not. I told her YSAS did the same thing in baseball, but he also sang.
What a couple! Tomorrow I will tell you about blind soccer.
If I see a hairy frog, I’m grabbing the Pack and Zoë and getting out of town!
8:33 pm on May 28th, 2013
Rain!…No rain here as someone was hoping for…grunt!…It blew right over us leaving a night of watering the garden ahead for us – after it cools off a bit…sniff!…In the meantime we are watching the episode of Mad Men that freaked Staff out …heh!heh!
8:36 pm on May 28th, 2013
Rio: I’m hoping for a long, dry summer.
8:37 pm on May 28th, 2013
Rio, Didn’t you have snow two or three weeks ago? Now it is hot? Crazy weather!
8:47 pm on May 28th, 2013
Barb!…That is a very bad memory and I do not remember it…grunt!…It is Spring-time now, full of rain and thunder and lightning and tornadoes…wheeze!…Lovely, lovely Spring-time…wheeze!
8:56 pm on May 28th, 2013
Missing!…So where is Stover tonight? …sniff!…I thought she would be back with a fury, or furry…heh!heh!chorkle!
9:07 pm on May 28th, 2013
Garden!…It is calling someone’s name…grunt!…Just when I got comfortable downstairs…sneeze!
9:40 pm on May 28th, 2013
Lots of bad weather warnings, but so far they are south of us. May be signing off soon.
10:58 pm on May 28th, 2013
Storms!…Stay safe Barb, oh my Barb!…snort…I wonder if that is where everyone else is tonight – Undercover and hiding from storms!….yeeep!…We here are having thundering and lightning again, she says maybe it will rain after all that watering we did tonight…grunt!..Oh and that long grumpy walk we had to endure…sniff!
11:10 pm on May 28th, 2013
Storm-Watch!…Beau is on storm-watch and we are waiting to hear everyone check-in once the danger is over…sniff!…Take cover everyone and be safe…sneeze!
11:26 pm on May 28th, 2013
Mad!..Men!…I think the latest episode was excellent. Staff is missing years and years of history behind this episode….heh!…So of course it was strange and the people seem weird. WEll, they are….sniff!…My friend compares them to her mom, dad, aunts and uncles who all lived grown-up lives during that era, and has decided that the Ad-Men in NYC were completely out of touch with reality. Unfortunately, they made up reality and people bought into what their commercials said society should be like…sniff!
11:28 pm on May 28th, 2013
Late!…Someone has to get up early tomorrow…grunt!…That means we do to….crap!…So off to bed we all go…shuffle!sneeze!cough!
12:02 am on May 29th, 2013
I got back in time to say goodnight.
Goodnight.
Come back BStover, come back
2:34 am on May 29th, 2013
