Public Service Announcement

“Here’s a sad story,” Spence says.

“But it might serve as a useful reminder,” says Admin. “There’s no reason a single dog has to die in a parked car this summer.”

Welcome Luciano della Cane, Mikey (possibly with 2 M’s).

Hmmm, not going to read it. I’ll just cry.

Back down the hill today. Not as far as yesterday (thank dog). One of the cars needs an oil change, then we’re going to see Dan (bears or no bears) then actually go out to lunch. Weird . .

Thinking of you Tenz . .

Oh, and Terry? One of our Puppy people, she has two of ours, lived on Long Island and totally agrees with your statement on yesterday’s blog. She has now moved to the country and has a pond in her backyard. The dogs are loving it!

    Good Morning All!

What a sad story, but a good lesson learned comes out of this tragedy.

Rebecca: Strong prayers here for Tenz. Hope he is back to his old self soon.

Rio: I’m very concerned for you and your friend with those horrible fires in Colorado. Keep Beau and your friend safe.

Good morning. A lot of excitement here in Buffalo Niagara. Nik Wallenda will be doing a high-wire walk over Niagara Falls on Saturday. He wanted to do it without a harness! He will have to wear one – imagine if he fell with all the kids watching. They have a rescue plan in case he falls and is dangling from the wire. There’s a zip line next to the cable and rescuers will go out in a basket to get him. Now that would be fun to see instead of someone falling to his death.

Good morning! Mom had to get up at 3 am and left for her office at 3:30. Somehow that made us all very tired.
The article says poor Tucker was left in the closed car for 2 hours!!! sheez! Our mom hardly takes us anywhere in the summer because she is afraid she would have to leave us.
She wants to take one of us on a roadtrip, but she doesn’t think rest stops on the highway let our kind inside. Anyone know?

Good morning all. We could not read the story either. We are with Melanie, definitely would be tears. Why are there so many idiots out there?

Got feed back from Sunday showing. Really liked house but need another bedroom, so they may be bringing a contractor over to look at space over garage. Unfinished room over garage is 12 x 23 and is set up to be finished as another room.

Rio, stay safe. Are the fires close by? Heard that there was a fatality in Co. yesterday.

I’m not going to read the article because I know what it says, but a public service announcement like that is always a good idea. In Albuquerque it is legal to break the window on a car to rescue a dog on a hot day.

Fellow Sibers, as long as your mom got in and out of the rest area toilets quickly, the odds are there would be no one around to enforce a no dogs allowed rule. State Highway Patrol cops have got better things to do than worry about a Siber in a restroom. Cops do not like “dogs” calls like this. If there were state employees working at the rest stop, they would have no authority to do anything other than tell you to leave.
Or, your mom could simply get off the interstate, quickly get on a rural road, and go pee behind a bush or tree. This is usually my mom’s favorite option. This is probably safer than the suspicious characters we have seen at highway rest stops.

Thanks for the advise, Siber. Traveling interstates in the East does not always provide rural backroads like you have in the West. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, right?

Sending lots and lots of love to Tenzing.

We do feel for people who are stupid, but we wish there was a test you had to take before being allowed to care for one of our guys. Same thing goes for childcare. Not everyone who is biologically able to have a child is capable of being a parent.

A giant bee hive was found and instead of killing all the bees they are being moved into this giant hive.

Fellow Sibers, You are right. It can be done, but I know you don’t have all the wide open spaces like we do.

Rio is not close to the path of any of those wildfires in Colorado. The smoke from them may be another story.

In one of the states in Germany people are going to have to start taking a test about dogs before they are allowed to care for one. It may be Bavaria, but I am not sure.

Germany is such a dog-friendly place, at least in Bavaria. Everyone takes their dogs into the restaurants, and they just lie under the table. It is children that they seem to look down on at the restaurants.

Thank you for that link Mollypop’s Mom. It’s fascinating. I didn’t know that a red dot on a bee indicates “colony collapse disorder” or that bees communicate by “fanning.” I’m glad they were able to save the colony.

Nice to read the bee story with a happy ending. There has been such a problem with hive die-off in the last few years that we are happy that more bees were not put to their death in the name of “progress”.

Sad story abuot Tucker. While I like to go everywhere with mom and dad, I do understand that may not be good for me during the heat of summer. That is why I insist they stay at home as much as possible. Other times of the year though, when they go, I go (at least most of the time).

Well, guys . . I’m back and a bit depressed. Dan looks good but he is in pain. The doctor was going to call the rehab place about the pain yesterday. Did she call? Did they not get the call? Who knows because the doctor’s office hung up on Zoe.

He is also refusing one of the medications he must be on. I’m so tired. Zoe is tired. Been a long two days and we really didn’t need this.

sigh. So I’ll check back later. I’m crawling under the quilt.

Mollys Mom: That is some beehive! This spring we have seen bees buzzing around. A good sign.

Bear, Any good movies to recommend? The Margin Call was well acted, but not anything we would want to watch again. Kevin Spacey was excellent as usual. Wonder if Rio’s friend has seen that movie.

Whew, pissed off friends, house showings, lightening bolts. Something’s always going on at Chet’s Blog.

Hmm, The Doc called because the Rehab place called her. Zoe happened to mentioned getting hung up on. Doctor was not pleased.

Dan’s back on a medication he decided he didn’t need. And the doc is coming to visit him on Saturday. A house call! Unless the pain gets worse then she’ll be there sooner.

B&M — Mom and dad don’t go to a whole lot of movies, but they did see one recently that they just loved and highly recommend: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It has a great cast, including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson and Bill Nighy, and the lead actor from Slumlord Millionnaire. Good but, as you say, not a memorable film. The Artist is next in our Netflix queue, but won’t be released for a week or so. Meanwhile its’ a dry spell.

Rio: When you first mentioned your friend taking a box to the Busy Place it sounded ominous. But then remembered it had something to do with her vacation being cancelled in the first place. Boxes were definitely involved.

    Safe trip home Bella

Rio – didn’t you see that youtube about the Kats. What makes you think we can’t open closet doors?
Especially in the middle of the night
When you are all curled up sound asleep
In your nice soft bed, thinking that all your worries are behind you.
And then the closet door slowwwwwlllyyy creeeeeaaaks open
And a paw with a claw creeps out, slowly, silently, it edges nearer and nearer to the snoring little Pug
    and then

    WHAMMO!

And we ain’t talkin’ grand slam home run…..giggle….

The Kats are making mom laugh! Which she needs because she took our Kat Claudie to the vet today for some “dental work” (extractions) and he won’t be home until Thursday. They found out that he is diabetic, and they want to run some glucose curves on him. They’ll start him on insulin tomorrow morning and he should be able to have surgery in a month.

Which reminds me, how is Tenzing?

awww Wolfie. Sorry to hear about the kitty. But the good news is that the diabetes was caught before he got really sick. Just talked to a friend yesterday who came within hours of losing one of her office cats to diabetes. She knew something was wrong, but the boss didn’t think so until it was almost too late. Result – multi thousand dollar vet bill when it could have been less and the ca’t could have been less sick a long time ago.
Too many times cats don’t let you know they are sick until too late. Glad you caught this one.

Update on Tenzing: He is home with five less teeth that he began with yesterday morning. I’ve been reading through the many pages of instructions the vet sent home since I arrived. No more food items made with grain products—this was a great disappointment to Tenzing who is usually the recipient of AJ’s pizza crusts. One guess that AJ had for dinner tonight. The nerve. Tenzing will be on a special food for the rest of his life and a few new medications were added to the mix; these will probably be lifelong as well. Towards the end of the paperwork from the vet, it states in bold letters: There is no cure. This much we knew. The vet was very good to AJ when he picked up Tenzing tonight.

Tenzing is resting comfortably and glad to be home. He reports that his favorite dog pillow, the best in the house, smells curiously like Belle Starr. He looked at me for explanation. I gave none.

The quilt got back from the cleaners just in time. I just checked and Ros and Tenzing both have their heads resting on Melanie’s lap. Claudie is curled on top of Tenzing’s side. Bridger is curled in the corner, sleeping. Dan looks comfortable as well. Luna and Belle Starr have a place reserved from Rose for the lightening bolts on Friday—now, I understand why Belle Starr ordered a velvet rope online—and I think Luna tucked a corner of the quilt around the shoulders of Rio’s friend when Rio wasn’t looking.

Wolfie: I’m glad you were able to catch the diabetes when you did. Tenzing said to tell Claudie the best part about life with less teeth is the canned dog food.
