Pub Day: The Dog Who Knew Too Much
Spence is already gone, hitting the road to North Conway, NH – Maestro’s Restaurant at noon, talk and signing – plus a raffle! There’s still some coffee in his cup. Coffee’s not my thing. I’ll eat just about anything – I admit it – but when it comes to drinking, water’s pretty much it. Any meaning in that? I leave it to you.

Good morning, Chet! You’re really early today. I think the fact that you prefer water to coffee shows you have great taste! I’m a water guy myself, and Mom and Dad are just back from their walk, so Mom’s drinking a tall glass of water even as we speak. My girl, on the other hand, loves that coffee stuff. I say it smells pretty good — especially when you first open a can — but when you cook it in water, the stuff tastes vile!!!

P.S. Happy TDWKTM Day! 🙂 Mom will be bringing our copy home from the library today, so we can read the whole book now. That saves us from having to wait for our autographed copy to come later.
8:06 am on September 6th, 2011
Kirby, are you okay? News is showing bad weather in your area!
8:09 am on September 6th, 2011
Happy TDWKTM Day to you too! 🙂
I read last night’s posts. All the crossed paws, claws and tails are thinking good thoughts for Texas.
Hmmm. I wonder if a WHOLE bunch of Newfs just drooled at the fire?
Naw, but it does make a weird picture.

G&BB: We’re supposed to get some of the remnants of Lee today, but just the outer bands. Right now it’s cloudy here, but so far no rain. When Mom and Dad went for their walk, it was really warm and humid — really humid! It felt like it was going to start raining at any time. But so far nothing.
Mom’s getting ready to turn off the computer — have a great day everyone! BBL — unless we’re too busy reading!!!
8:37 am on September 6th, 2011
Kirby T: That is weird, we’ve been getting the remnants of Lee for the last day. Pumped up that rain right to the west of you I guess.
River is full again, but nothing like Irene. We’ve had 3 inches of rain.
Now the important thing. Where did Zoe leave her kindle . . . I need to buy something!!
9:12 am on September 6th, 2011
Spencer, hope you get up and back okay. Just had word that the North Conway, NH dog shows have been cancelled this weekend because of “flooding, silt and unusable parking due to Tropical Storm Irene.”
Maybe that’s just where the show was going to be . . .

A friend form Australia (Uncle Alan) sent this to Wookie about the heros of the nation within our nation from 9/11. Very touching – Wookie gave it 3 Woofs!

Happy TDWKTM Day to you all. We are first on the list for our library copy, but we aren’t sure if they have even received it yet. It was ordered on 8-5. Going to check now. BBL

I didn’t read very far last night. Got to Chet’s memory about a duck in a lake and couldn’t stop laughing.
Chet: You’re the greatest. Hope the event today goes well. (Much too early to be up and about at 6:41 AM!) Every time I see “pub day” I think of a British bar. Pondering…
Good morning all.
9:39 am on September 6th, 2011
Good morning! Happy reading everyone.
I’m taking the car in for a “tune-up”. Gulp.

P-Day! ….Wooooo!… I never thought this day would come!…snort!…But here it is and I am the only one without Dog Who in my paws….sob!sob!sob!….I didn’t even have a message from B&N that is has been shipped….groan!…. She told the neighbor that there may be packages arriving while we are gone, and to please take them inside. …sniff!…Seems she ordered a ton of quilling paper and is worried about it getting rained on…grumble!
10:00 am on September 6th, 2011
Maestro’s!….. That Italian restaurant has a very large wine list….snort!… I guess ole Spencer will be in hog-heaven this afternoon…heh! …Although, I did not see any Cahors on the menu…sniff!

Its a great day for the world of literature! We wonder if actually getting to North Conway is going to be problematic. There just aren’t any highways to get there – you can get close, but then its all backroads. But New Hampshire didn’t get hit nearly as hard as Vermont. A drive up north there showed so much damage it really brought a lump to the throat.
On a lighter note – Chet – one of our very favorite things in the world is finding an abandoned (or at least unattended) cup of coffee that is within our reach. Remember the day that Gilly and I got into someone’s coffee – we just remember that that day went by really, really fast and we did an awful lot of running around and barking and playing and running and chasing cats and …oh yeah, THAT’s why Mama never leaves her coffee within reach anymore.
Now, she’s leaving to go work in her studio and then (sigh) back to Crazy Lady Land.
10:13 am on September 6th, 2011
That’s a nice wine list. There are some Merlots from California and the Malbec from Argentina may be close to Cahors. Thanks for the link Rio. (Sorry you won’t have Dog Who on your trip. There must be a way….)
10:19 am on September 6th, 2011
Cool, cool water. My drink too…..
10:37 am on September 6th, 2011
Dilema!…. I’ve thought and thought and thought about how to get a copy of Dog Who to read on the trip…sniff!….I can’t figure it out though. We don’t live near a B&N store, and Borders closed….wuffle!…So we are stuck with waiting on the US Postal Service again….grump!
Baseball!….That new book that Stover pointed out sounds really good and not just because it has a lot of baseball in it…snort!…Someone here says I have enough books on my plate to read already and we will not be ordering any more for a while….gruffle!
10:41 am on September 6th, 2011
The NYTimes review has an excerpt from the book.
Rio: Could you get a copy from the library…of Dog Who?
10:44 am on September 6th, 2011
Stover!…Now thats an Idea!…snort!… I will text my friend from my little Go-Phone and ask her to stop tonight on her way home from the Busy-Place….wheeze!…Chances are our library won’t have it, but it’s worth a shot …snuffle!
10:54 am on September 6th, 2011
Crap!… The library has it “on order” and there are 5 requests in front of me….gruffle!…So I am just as well off waiting for our copy to arrive via mail….grump!

Our weather has gone from blazing hot 93 degrees to winter! Well, no snow, but the contrast in a couple of days makes us think it must be winter. However, that makes us think a drizzly 55-degree day is perfect for reading and a certain book flew into Mom’s Kindle last night. I was on the alert to try to catch it as it came in, but I must have dozed off and then there it was.
11:06 am on September 6th, 2011
We just had a woman come to the front door. Jesse answered it and said, “May I help you?” I’m yelling that I’m in the side yard AND SHE OPENED THE DOOR WITHOUT BEING INVITED IN AND LET THE PACK OUT! Sort of hard NOT to notice the NINE dogs at the door. Just spent the last ten minutes getting them back in the house. She was determined she was supposed to be here. I then should her the number on the house. ON THE HOUSE. She was wrong. She started to leave and I told her she owed us an apology, and she still thought she was in the right, because she had the number wrong. WHAT? She did apologize. But Jeez Louise!
11:06 am on September 6th, 2011
Alone!….So am I going to be all alone out here while all you guys are reading and laughing today?…grump! ….What’s a pug to do?…sniffle!
11:09 am on September 6th, 2011
Melanie!,…Why didn’t the Newfs stop the women from getting close to the front door?….snort! … I thought they were meant to be “watching” the house and keeping strangers away…heh!
11:21 am on September 6th, 2011
Rio: From Amazon I can put books on my Kindle and iPad simultaneously without paying twice. I could also have them downloaded to my computer. Wonder if you could get a copy on your computer. (It may only be done when you order a digital copy.)
UPS is supposed to be delivering my hardcover copy today. Have to run errands and then prep for class and then…finally…read.
11:26 am on September 6th, 2011
Amazon! We here have been let down big time by the corporate mammoth. Nana checked this morning and the book has yet to be sent out. So how can we receive it on the 8th if IT HASN’T EVEN BEEN SHIPPED YET. She cancelled the order (pre-ordered from FEBRUARY mind you) and placed another order. This one actually looks like it is moving through the shipping process. Maybe. If it wasn’t for the Prime Shipping feature she says she would have gone elsewhere. They are on our LIST!
11:30 am on September 6th, 2011
I forgot to say that Mom is halfway through Agatha Christie’s Murder at the Vicarage. It’s the first book of the Miss Marple series and was free on Amazon Kindle. It will have to wait. We want to read about Chet.
11:33 am on September 6th, 2011
Bear: I think you should let Amazon know that problem. My hardcover copy that is coming today from UPS is from Amazon and I received an email message on Sept. 1 saying it would be here today. (There is a tracking link with the email also.) Hope you get your copy soon.
12:00 pm on September 6th, 2011
I couldn’t get on the internet last night but my copy is on the computer this morning.
Rio go to Amazon and download Kindle Cloud reader (free) and then order the book. It will not take long. Maybe 5 minutes and you will have it. Of course you have to pay about 13.00 for the book.
Sigh.
However in my case Mr.Staff is paying for it. Snicker. He told me his amazon password so I could listen to some Bluegrass songs he had uploaded to the Cloud and …heh….it works for ordering books too. 😀
Now although the book is here I have to go take the ‘rents to the clinic for some lab work. So I won’t be able to read it till this afternoon.
And I popped a cap off one of my teeth last night so I will have to stop for that to be fixed. However I expect to be happy happy happy tonight.

Riö, it was because Jesse was with them. If the “lady” had tried to just come in with out a member of our 2 legged pack there, she would be lucky not to run screaming!
Though why drool and loud woofing and anxious dogs upset people I’ll never know.
12:44 pm on September 6th, 2011
Clouds!….The suggestion to download and pay for the book Again! will not go over with someone here who has to bring home the bacon each day….grunt!… She says, “No Way! We can wait one lousy week to read the book because we have waited this long already without exploding.” ….snort!
12:45 pm on September 6th, 2011
Thanks for the link, Stover. Mom picked that book up yesterday at B&N and looked at it. She’ll buy it for me. I know she will.
Melanie, It’s too bad that the Newfs didn’t just run over that lady and flatten her.
1:01 pm on September 6th, 2011
Bear, We have been seriously considering coughing up the money for Amazon Prime…now we are not so sure.
We noticed that with Amazon Prime overnight shipping is only $3.99.

Hey Chet,
You should try the coffee — I love it. I get into Mom’s cup every time I can! Since I have a long and elegant nose, I can get all the way to the bottom of the cup without any problem. (Not like those other two in my home — Max & Buddy.)
Best wishes,
Montana in Illinois
1:56 pm on September 6th, 2011
Montana: You are beautiful….and very skillful!
SH: I have Amazon Prime and think it works very well. You can also get free streaming of movies and tv shows with it (meaning you don’t have to pay extra for them).
2:10 pm on September 6th, 2011
Siber-H – We have Amazon Prime and use it all the time. We get way more than our money’s worth out of it. Just click and two days later there’s our package. We never do overnight so there’s no extra cost.
2:15 pm on September 6th, 2011
Siber-H – Here’s a whole page of stuffed huskies on Amazon with Prime shipping. You could buy some with one-click ordering and your Mom would never know.

Crap!…. Just received notice from B&N that they have finally shipped part of my order….grunt!… The part they didn’t ship was Dog Who. Go Figure! ….grump!
2:22 pm on September 6th, 2011
SiberH!….I looked at those stuffed Sibers, but they do not look at all like you…grunt!… My friend wants to order this next time…..snort!
2:27 pm on September 6th, 2011
Siber-H: This is the first time Amazon Prime has let us down and personally I don’t think it had anything to do with the shipping service. I believe our order somehow slipped through the cracks. (Yes, we are letting them know!) If you place a lot of orders it is well worth the price. Also, as B says, free streaming video is included. The 3.99 next day shipping you mentioned is also very attractive.
2:52 pm on September 6th, 2011
Chet uses “booked” (not a spoiler alert but reference to a scene in Dog Who follows)when Iggy is holding the bacon in front of the window and leaves when Mr. Parsons wants to take it away. We talked about that usage of booked one time. (I still don’t think I like it.) This is so much fun!
2:56 pm on September 6th, 2011
We too are among the “waiting to read” club. After meeting Spence last year mom just doesn’t want to buy the book until she can get him to sign it in person again. No telling when that will be. We are going to the library site to see if it has arrived yet. Paws crossed.
Nobody here drinks coffee but Belle loves her some tea! What’s dad’s is hers, if you ask her. Mom does not believe in sharing. There is always a top on hers. hmph
2:59 pm on September 6th, 2011
OOOoooooooo!!!!! The library says “copy in processing”. I hope that does not mean that some librarian is reading it! (sorry, Kirby, it is OK for your mom, but not for here!!!) We will check back later in the day.
3:03 pm on September 6th, 2011
Booked!
It’s common usage up here for leaving the scene, usually in a hurry.
Rio: Tell your friend there were some “pug” shoes on sale at that site Rose posted for Melanie the other day, when Melanie was looking for some purple shoes. They were cute if you like that sort of thing (I prefer purple).
3:06 pm on September 6th, 2011
Carpola!
I used the word p u g along with s h o e s and I am now awaiting moderation at 3:03. I was telling Rio to check out the site Rose gave to Melanie for purple s h o e s because there are some pug s h o e s for sale.
3:06 pm on September 6th, 2011
dagnabbit, the library says that it will be ready in about 2 weeks. How much processing does that thing need, anyway.
3:19 pm on September 6th, 2011
What site Rose gave Melanie for purple s h o e s ? How’d I miss that?
All the librarians have to read it first!

Wookie – Mom cried while she looked at the pictures from Uncle Alan. Thanks for sharing. Do all older dogs have eyes filled with wisdom?
TDW arrived today from Amazon in KY via USPS. Our mail lady outwitted the goats. The cover is beautiful. Does Kindle show book covers?
3:49 pm on September 6th, 2011
Macy: Melanie is right. All the librarians are reading it first, lol. Only Kirby’s mom, because she is a Plunderer, is allowed to take this liberty. The others, no. Two weeks for processing – more like 2 weeks for all the staff to read it. We’re no.10 on the list as is.
Okay. Nana called Amazon to complain about the shipping. They said they will extend her Prime subscription as compensation. That’s something but she’s still not happy about the delay. The gal tried to give us next day but the system wouldn’t let her change a order in process. Enough whining. We will post more on the subject when we have something positive to report.
3:59 pm on September 6th, 2011
Bluecat: My iPad shows the cover, back and front, and inside flaps. I don’t think the Kindle does.
3:59 pm on September 6th, 2011
Spencer!… I wonder how much wine he guzzled today during and after his first talk about Dog Who…heh!… I also wonder if he mentioned the Blog, the Plunderers, Snowhook Kennel and the Iditarod Patch!….snort! … He really has a lot of topics he could talk about if he put his mind to it… chorkel! …Maybe he can replace all those old stories he used to tell over and over….sniff! …Although, I would like to hear them at least once at some point…grunt!

Welcome Montana…love the name “Montana”.
Thanks guys for all the comments on Amazon Prime. We’ll do it!
Oh yeah, Mollypop, I forgot about the one click ordering…that will make life easier. One of those stuffed huskies is $448. I’d be in serious trouble over that one.

Siber-H: we have the Amazon Prime and because of where we live it does make life easier because we don’t have to drive forever to go find and then buy something.

Macy and Rio, We don’t have the book either. Barb did a big boo boo. She is ordering a signed copy from Wellseley, but she doesn’t like to open that copy, and certainly won’t loan it out.
Sooo, she ordered 3 copies (2 are gifts)from B&N along with a children’s book that she pre-ordered with a 11-08 shipping date. She “assumed” that they would ship Dog Who now. What a bozo. Today she looked again, and they had the 3 Dog Who copies set to ship on 11-08 along with the pre-order. Boy, was she upset. She couldn’t change it on line, so she had to call and talk to someone. She ended up canceling the kid’s book and will reorder it later. They will be shipping Dog Who in the next couple of days. We probably won’t have it till next week.

Thanks Maggie! My NBC news won’t come on for 25 more minutes so I will get to see it.
7:10 pm on September 6th, 2011
Did anyone see it? I had seen the U-Tube video before of Mishka saying “I love you”, but id didn’t know it has been viewed over 55 MILLION times! Pretty impressive.

Siber-H It is right at the very end of the broadcast. Fun segment!
7:22 pm on September 6th, 2011
Yes, my first thought about Melanie was gas also, but I then decided that she just did not finish the word. I guess she will have to settle the debate.
7:29 pm on September 6th, 2011
Thanks all (sarcastic font). I was falling asleep! Jeez. . .
Speaking of that, it’s cold and damp here. Just the kind of night that’s set for a good book. Perhaps with a favorite furry Patsy snoring away on my bed with the heated mattress pad on low.
Pondering here . . .

Gas!…. I have gas. A lot of gas…snort!burp!….Although, I usually don’t go around telling everyone about it on the blog…heh!…It’s pretty common knowledge around here. When company comes I usually get shooshed to the other room or into the bedroom, or outside if it is not too hot or not too cold….grunt! …Usually I just go lie in my bed with my baseball toys and gruffle at the voices….snort!

Bear, Tell Nana to get Songcatcher. Loved it here. Tiny, tiny bit of two women who were more than friends, but it was not adult-offensive.
9:12 pm on September 6th, 2011
I meant, I think I’ll read Dog Who also. I’m reading it slowly just as Mollypop is. I’m on chapter seven. It’s really good.
Good night all.
9:19 pm on September 6th, 2011
Back!… wheeze!cough!….We came downstairs and her mother yelled down that it is starting to really rain now…heh!…It sprinkled on us the whole way which felt kind of good. Now I’m sure I will not have to have a bath before The Trip To Hell…chorkel!
9:23 pm on September 6th, 2011
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who won’t be reading Dog Who when it is fresh off the press. I’m still playing catch up—I’ll finish THAT tonight and start TFAT tomorrow.
Rio: Luna has gas, too but she’d never admit it.
9:27 pm on September 6th, 2011
Hey T&G’s mum, great surprise! It arrived yesterday and I’m thrilled, THANK YOU!
9:55 pm on September 6th, 2011
Hey, y’all! I don’t know what is taking those libraries so long to process those books! If something has a release date of Sept. 6, then Mom’s library releases it on Sept. 6! All of the books are tagged and ready to go days before. Then on the release date they’re checked in and go out to those on the waiting list. Mom was Number 5 on the list, and by the time her branch’s copy was checked in, the first four people on the list already had copies assigned, so the one at her branch was Mom’s! She was a little worried about that, because she had a meeting at another branch this afternoon, and there was still one more hold to be filled before it was Mom’s turn. She was going to say something to the lady who was going to check it in, but she forgot! Luckily, when she came back from the meeting, there was the book with her name on it!!!

Hmm. Catty Librarian is waiting for her copy to come from the library too. I haven’t seen one of these books yet and now I’ll have to wait to find out about this dog and his buddy and perps and all. Her library doesn’t get the book shipped until pub day so we’ll be waiting for the processing but – we ARE first on the list because no Plunderers live around here!
Wish I could have seen the Newfs all run out the door at once. Sounds like a grand time to me!

Hi Elliot – Mama has been on the recieving end of a Pack “attack”, and it is hilarious! First, you are all alone – then the door opens and a huge tidal wave of black fur, drool, happy eyes and wagging tails engulfs you up to the thighs. You can’t move, you can’t fall, you are held up by flying buttresses of Newf. All you can do is stand there and laugh (as long as you understand and love dogs). Its the very best cure for the blues that we can imagine…well, if you don’t have Corgis…
Barb – SAWED OFF GERMAN SHEPARDS?!?! Well, I NEVER! Hummpfff.
(sound of a Corgi stomping her little legs off in a huff)
Rio – the Kats could come and help you pack up that parcel – only problem is you could find yourself on the inside of the box, taped and labeled for Timbucktoo.

LizF: You got your surprise from T&G? It got all the way across the ocean before it got to me. I know it’s not the Incompetent Marauding Goats…it’s the Canadian Post Office! What a bunch of bumblers.
OleyHowlers: Let me know when you get a package from me, please. I’m curious on how long it will take as I only paid for surface mail because I know they fly it out of here anyways.
Hi Elliot: What the heck is your mom asking me about my bathtub for, eh? I couldn’t bribe it out of Staff.
Hi Montana: Say hi to Max and Buddy, too.

HI Dawson! I did, I’m really surprised. The package from Bear took a long time and it came from the WEst coast, so maybe there are some goats in Hawaii.
Abbie, thank you for that link.

I wonder if a gaggle of sled dogs is similar to a Newf attack—they sound very similar…

Liz – so glad you liked your surprise, and we join Dawson in grumbling about her mail service. Maybe she should move to a less primative country….

Sigh. I just read the last page, and I am feeling quite content. It was excellent, although it was way too short I loved every one but one, which was used three times. Sigh.

Mr. Wigglebutt: For me, a good book coming to an end is a war between the feeling of contetment and a sense of loss.
I found out tonight that hamburger is a favorite of Rio Jr.
