Power? Nope!

But I have this brief opportunity to say thank you for the beautiful calendar, now on my office wall.

From last night to Mlaiuppa. Franklin was blushing at your comments, he is very touched. And thank you for the suggestion re change of format for the photo. I presumed it was a Jpeg and did not realize it was a different format. So I will try again and see if it works better now.

Wow! We never knew that Freya looked so much like Sonja the first member
of the HOH. She is gorgeous.
Wose, kudos to you for all your hard work. 2022 is something to look forward to.
    Good day to everyone.

You mean Freyja? My Freyja? She’s in the calendar? How nice.

I can’t prove it but I suspect Freyja is from a line of working sled dogs and could possible be part Seppala Siberian. No way to prove it at all except her size, her coloring and her mix. Seppalas have been crossed back and forth with other breeds with the object of breeding a strong working dog, not a pretty conformation dog for show rings. That’s why she looks nothing like the huskies we see at the dog park and they are so much bigger than she is.

She has no relatives on Embark aside from “cousins”, although a few of those are in the same geographic area as Hesperia, where I rescued her from. They ages don’t match so none could be litter mates. But Wisdom panel says they are going to be instituting a relative match soon and who knows? Maybe there will be a hit there.

My own suspicions are that she came from someone breeding sled dogs and one of them hooked up with an unacceptable mate and the puppies were sold or whatever because they were not pure bred and she was from that litter. She is 54% Siberian and the rest quite the mix.

She is my affectionate little wolf dog. Maybe I’ll get her a little sled on wheels for Christmas she can pull around.

Mlaiuppa, our Sonja was a wolf husky mix.
She was quite a challenge but a very wonderful girl.

MLAIUPPA: Yes, your Freyja is in the calendar. That photo you just posted is the exact photo I used.

    BooBear’s Mom: Yeah, Big Tiny!

Yikes! That is a long time without power!

The man-who-lives-in-this-house had a generator with a transfer switch installed a couple weeks ago because the power goes out so often and now there is no dedicated crew in town if it is something serious. They are a 4 hour drive (if the roads are good) away. Since being installed the power has gone out 4 times! Only for short periods so far but I sure am happy to have that machine ready to go.

WTAFP: Lovely picture of Franklin but I think Miss Sierra should be sticking her tongue out too! Haha.

Wose: I haven’t got my calendar yet but since others are getting theirs, I should be getting mine within a week or so. Yippee!

BooBear’s Mom: Let me guess. Big Tiny is the January calendar friend? Tell him/her(?) that I almost always forget to turn the page on time.

I’ve broken down and started A Wonderful Woof. Charlie is growing up and I wonder if he will someday be the smartest man in the room even when Bernie is present. Wonderful writing. Trying to make it last.

Rio: I scored some sourdough starter from a friend and have some dough rising overnight. Fingers and toes crossed it turns out as good as yours and Staff’s.

    Go Braves! (Sorry Boobear’s Mom)

HOH: According to Embark and Wisdom Freyja has NO wolf in her. She does have ancient dog DNA. Embark measures it as a “wolfiness” score but it isn’t wolf DNA. They can test for not only wolf but wild dog and coyote. They would come up in the breed mix but she has none. She does have about 15 different breeds of dog.

I have photo voltaic panels on my roof and usually produce more than I use so I have considered having a large battery put in the garage for overflow storage so that if the power should go out I have several days of power. But the investment is a lot and I’m not sure it will pay off if I don’t stay in the house, nor would it raise the property value enough to pay itself back if I sell. Also I am in a very large urban city, not rural or on a homestead. There is a certain attraction for being off the grid if only for electricity. I also use city water and natural gas not to mention the sewer line and trash pick-up so would never be totally independent. The PV does lower my bill. I had a credit when it was installed in 2007 and this year will be the first where I will actually have to pay, and that is only because they charge “rent” on the meter and they doubled the rental rate about 7 years ago.

Dawson: You’re doing the first rise overnight in the refrigerator? Best way to develop flavor. I’ll bet your bread will be awesome. Your starter will be like a little pet. Have you named it yet?
