Politics Rears Its Head

“Care to make any predictions?” Spence says.

“Yes,” says Admin. “The election will take place as scheduled on Tuesday, November 6. You can bet the ranch. And here’s something I love about America – secret ballot. Also the First Amendment. And that once we actually had a president of Lincoln’s caliber.”

“Just when we needed him. Any chance of Honest Abe coming back for another go around?”

“Only in the kind of movies we don’t go to.”

Welcome Halloween celebrator (second one so far this year).

Our thoughts are with the Gus and BooBear family today.

You mean “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer” isn’t real? Darn.

I will not be talking any politics except that I agree with Admin. I think Spence is trying to make trouble.

Terry, Do you know I had to actually look up Dropkick Murphys? I thought you were talking about a football player. Showing my lack of knowledge for contemporary music . . .

So this is for Terry! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtCAhb5QGSo

Gus&BooBear: We panicked seeing the comment above, then quickly returned to read last night comments. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you, especially this Thursday.

What was the outcome of the game? We watched part of it before dozing off. (keep those pies coming, B!)

    Morning all
Gus and BooBear – there will be special prayers for your Dad all this week.

Callie has done a remarkable turnaround. After being sleepy and listless for the last couple weeks. Since her trip to the second opinion vet, she has been bouncing around and playing like a puppy. Yesterday, Mama made puppy pancakes with some leftover batter. Callie was catching the ones tossed to her in midair. Gramp is smiling. A lot!

    Good Morning All!

May the Creator watch over Gramp and Callie, and restore Callie to good health.
Creator, please also watch over Gus and BooBear, and give them the strength to watch over their mom and care for her while their dad undergoes his surgery. Please keep your watchful eye over their dad, and allow him to return to his family without serious event, and healthy.

Double amen to Rose’s prayer. G&BB and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you; the best thing going for you right now is the incredibly positive attitude that was expressed in last night’s post. Also, sounds like your father is getting the best medical advice and treatment possible. Tail wags and bumps from Wookie.

Gramp just got a call from the surgeon. They may do the surgery on Thursday instead of Tuesday. Why? The surgeon just said that Thursday is a good day for surgery. So – G&BB- Thursday WILL be a good day!

    And thank you Rose.

Arrived home from KY last night to winter which I kind of expected. In KY the leaves are just beginning to change color and it was in the 70s. Stressful week but Dad’s service went well. I was a wreck before and during but once over, I was at peace. My sister and I hosted a reception featuring Dad’s favorite foods and desserts.

I was supposed to arrive home 5 pm AK time and didn’t get home until midnight which kind of tells you how it went. There is a certain airline that I never want to fly again — out of 6 segments of the round trip, 3 had problems which caused missed connections and lost luggage. Geez, 2 hours sitting on a plane at the Chicago gate on top of a 4 hour flying time to Seattle. My 3-hour layover in Seattle ended up me running from one terminal to another only to see my plane back out of the gate. Stuck for hours and ended up on another plane in the middle seat for the 4-hour flight home. Will catch up later with everyone.

  23. Barb & Maggie
    3:12 pm on October 15th, 2012

Glad you made it back CH, even though you were 7 hours late and had all those problems.

Barb has an appointment on Wed. morning to see a doc about a knee replacement. One of the reasons we needed to move back is her lack of mobility. Too many activity-related accidents over the years, so now she is paying for it. Probably will be doing it over the winter, during everyone’s quiet time.

G & B and T & G., we will be involved in the prayer circle on Thursday for sure.

Seems like a slow day for photos so we will post one of the home projects. This is the 9 foot laundry room wall that had the white metal shelving. We started with the center cabinet which was the $492 mis-measure Barb found at a cabinet shop and purchased for $100. Then she designed the wall cabinetry around that piece, buying stock items at Lowes, and painting and staining the peices herself. Eric put it all together. We think it looks like a professional job!

Ahem – excuse us for just a minute while Mama gets on her kinda political soapbox.
No, she is NOT discussing candidates or parties or rhetoric.
In our state, e have a senatorial race between two equally annoying candidates. But one of the bones of contention is that the incumbent didn’t vote for the Equal Pay for Women act, and the challenger is pointing that out.
EXCUSE ME! Does anyone else have a problem with the idea that in 2012 we still have to have a VOTE to decide whether women DESERVE equal pay for the same work? If someone decided to pay me less based on my ethnic background, there would be screaming and hollering about civil rights all over the country. If an employer paid someone of one religion less than someone of another, lawsuits would commence.
But for some reason, in this country, it is still legal to pay a woman less than a man doing the same work, with the same qualifications and abilities. And there aren’t demonstrations and petitions and legal actions?

Ok – putting the soapbox away now.
