Politics and Us

Has anyone else noticed a perhaps slight deterioration in the political tone in this century? Didn’t Lincoln say “If you wish to win a man over to your ideas, first make him your friend.”? It would be a shame if Lincoln gets forgotten. Tender Is The Bite is the Chet and Bernie novel where politics is center stage, although the tone of the book differs from our current political tone. For one thing, Chet makes an onstage appearance at a political rally. (A recent Amazon reviewer wrote: “This is one of the funniest stories that I have ever read.”)

Looking at the weather forecast for Sunday into Monday in this neck of the woods…3 to 6″ of snow expected.

    Good afternoon to all!

Deterioration is a polite way of putting it. We have sunk to the muckraking of the 19th century, only with high tech added to spread the poison.

We are in the midst of a warm spell. Low 70s this week with a drop into the 60s and some possible rain on Monday.

Right after the mail gets here I will be locking the front gate and the dogs and I will do some gardening in the front yard. I need to pull everything from the front raised bed in prep for winter planting. I know, I’m late but family issues.

I need to do a bit of repair, then add more dirt as it has settled. Then I will get the onions and garlic in. Need to start the seeds too so they can be transplanted. It all should have been started two months ago but death didn’t take a holiday.

I am really loving the dog they used to model for the cover art (and really good photoshopping of the ear.) The facial expressions are just beautiful. Not all dogs are photogenic or camera friendly.

My Caesar was. He was a black dog with faint doberman markings (lab/dob mix) and I swear he had a sixth sense for when a lens was aimed at him. He would always stop and look and pose.

Ramses wasn’t. I could never get a great shot of him. Diana is the same way. But I am thinking that Freyja might turn out to be not only photogenic but maybe even camera friendly. She’s stopped the spinning and jumping so might actually settle still enough for some shots. Only time will tell.

Cover!…I’m sure that dawg who poses as Chet these days is the same dawg that is on the Pet Fresh (or Fresh Pet) commercial. Both ears are black…grunt!

And that’s why Mliauppa mentioned it is a good job of photoshopping on the white ear, Rio.

I really like these new covers. I liked the original ones too. Except for the one with the border collie.

Not the same dog as the Freshpet commercial. That is taken from a YouTube video called German Shepherd has hilarious reaction to crying baby.

Both are black German Shepherds but not the same dog. Ears are different (and I don’t mean color).

I looked up black German Shepherds when I got Diana’s DNA results, before I knew about the Golden Retriever recessive gene thing. They are recognized by the AKC (but white shepherds are not) but are mostly working dogs in eastern Europe. They also run a big bigger and heavier than the average U.S. GSD. (But still not as big as Diana’s 103.2 lbs as of Wednesday.)

I think they are quite handsome but then I have a particular weakness for black dogs. All of my dogs have been black except for Goliath (pointer mix) and Freyja, although Freyja has quite a bit of black as well as gray, white and cream. Caesar and Ramses were both black as is Diana pawPrints.

They are difficult to photograph to their best advantage because the black fur is difficult to light.
