Plunderers

Thinking of the Plunderers today, a wonderful world-within-the-world here at the blog. Here’s the beautiful quilt they made for Spence. Second best thing in his whole career! (He only reveals the first at his book signings.)

Good morning, everyone! Sometimes we forget just how special Plunderer quilts are then we look at one again and memories flood in 🙂

Good morning, and thank you for posting the Quilt picture. So many of those on it are gone from the blog, or just gone.

We are a special group for sure.

Sunny and spring like here. We will take it when we can get it!

Might as well check the blog…and there is the quilt!
Thank you Spence for making it possible and thank you fellow plunderers for being here.

We were amazed to learn Wonder Fluff is REAL. A real product.
B&M: BSD said to tell you 12 Years a Slave was very good, but he is not liking The Wolf of Wall Street so much. And it is long, long…almost 3 hours.

BSD, Thank you. I don’t think we have Wolf of Wall Street is one we are interested in seeing either.

As far as Spence’s first best memory in his career, it had something to do with a comment a young reader made to him. He was speaking to a class or third graders ( I think) that had read a young adult book, probably an Ingrid book. Foggy on details, but the kid gave him an under-whelming compliment, like the book was OK, or just not too bad. Something along those lines.

    Greetings!

I love that quilt! This must have been when the Plunderers were a small group. I see Rio in many different places.

    Who knew Wonderfluff was real?

  18. Mollypop's Mom
    9:28 am on April 5th, 2014

Long ago, when I mentioned Molly was going to the groomer to get Wonderfluffed, the name stuck. It became one of our blog-isms. Another one came about when Rio and Molly were fighting about something and he told her not to get all poodled up.

The quilt was delivered in August or September of 2010. Four years ago! Like many things on this here blog it was the brainchild of Rio TEP. It kept me busy during the down time after my transplant. Wookie’s Ma, Debbie was heavily into making blocks for plunderers also and helped with the design.

We kept it a secret…sort of.

    Good memories

There are so many of them: Double DDs, HerbKats, OFA, BDHW, YSAS, OTAS, Golinka. The list goes on and on, just ask a newbie like Diane.

  23. Diane C.

MPM–thanks for the info and the picture of Wonerfluff. I’d buy it just for the name, but maybe I can get the kids to hold still for a beauty treatment.
B and M–And while we’re on the subject, the only things I “get” on that list are OFA, HerbKats and Golinka (I’ve never even seen Double DDs, which sounds suspicious). Would you like to take this opportunity to provide a glossary?
Fern–what can I bring? I was thinking Indian cauliflower with red potatoes and peas (I’m invited, right?)

    Diane, let’s see…

Double Ds happen when the Awesome Dawson’s post appears twice, usually in succession.
HerbKats, are Basil and Sage who live with The Storyteller and the Royal Mum. The Royal Mum aka Golinka, Stinky Mama. She is the lovely Amalia.
Basil and Sage are called the Wrotten Kats by Tupper and Gilly.
BDHW, is our lovely Pixie, Rebecca who is the best damn handler’s wife.
YSAS, is Melanie’s actor son, McKey, aka Clarkson.
OTAS, hmmmm, even I am not sure of this acronym , but that is Melanie’s son Rob.
Grizz or the Prof is my husband.
HRH, B isHer Royal Higness Bee (Stover), the ruler of Stovernia .
OFM or the Giant, is the most handsome AJ, husband of Rebecca , and musher extraordinaire, so he is our favorite musher.

Will think on this some more.

Thank you all for the warm welcome regarding my ALR story. Anonymous Lurker Revealed indeed! But who can ignore Rio’s need for details!

C.Hobbit, yes, we here have two dogs. Schnauzers both, Murphy and Zoe. They keep us walking, walking, walking…..even in the rain, rain, rain here in Vancouver, Washington. I have been hoping your Sadie’s problem was UTI type. Zoe had a lot of that in her early years and I found a tiny bit of dried cranberry powder from a capsule to be very helpful. That may not be the case for Sadie, but let me know if you want more details.

  69. Barb & Maggie
    6:47 pm on April 5th, 2014

T & G’s Mom, Barb has not made duck for years, but a simple roasting might be easiest. Baste with some butter and cook about an hour or till internal temp of about 180. Duck has more fat than turkey so it is usually moist and not dried out as turkey breast can be. Seems to pair well with fruit sauces – apple, orange or cherries. Also stuffing works well with it. And of course your wonderful Brussels sprouts! What time is dinner, we will be there.

Everyone–Thanks for the information (OFAS and YSAS really had me confused).
Wyatt–Great picture. How do you feel about older women (I’m asking for a friend)?
Dawson–I got my starting recipe from a Madhur Jaffrey cookbook (which may now be out of print) but this captures the basic idea:
http://indianfood.about.com/od/vegetarianrecipes/r/gobhialoomutter.htm (you may have to copy and paste)

I’d ignore the ginger paste part–what’s important is the veg., turmeric, cumin and tomatoes–you can just sautee some garlic with the cumin at the start. You’ll enjoy.

GO ROCKIES!! You can win this one!

I don’t watch basketball, but, hey, the Huskies won!!!

Where does Staff keep all the sewing machines? Anything from 1906 is cool. They cared about making sewing machines pretty back then.

    night all

Just popping in for a minute to tell staff that you can get a wooden cremation urn/box with an antique sewing machine replica on top. Who knew?

Macy’s Maw: Maybe I’m a natural dainty licker, or maybe you are natural dainty lickee. My vote is for both. Dainty licks to you.

Wyatt–I put your question to my friend, and she licked my face (daintily) so I think she’s OK with it. (On the other hand, her legs are pretty short compared to yours, so “running with” might be a relative term here…)
Staff–That really is a beautiful machine–is it powered by hand (you turn the wheel at the side manually)?
Macy’s Mom–I actually like the urn/box. (And I’m assuming this is one of an entire line of customizable)(sp) containers. And wondering what I’d choose for myself…)
Fern–what a beautiful prayer. I hope you’re sleeping soundly and happily as I type this.
BSD–I wasn’t quite following all of that last post, but I DID see the picture of bison running in Yellowstone. I hope to visit after they reach their destination and are comfortable again.
And now I get to say “Good Night” to all.

Heh, there is a style of cover for the old machines called a coffin box cover. You can guess it’s shape. I have a few.

The machine is electric right now but it is scheduled for a motorectomy soon. I have to find a hand crank for it. I don’t remember if I brought one down to the cities in my box of necessary sewing machine parts or not.

Since it was made in 1906 I expect it wasn’t originally electric. And the motor is not a Singer motor and the light is an add- on light. Many of the older machines were retrofitted for electricity after the 20’s when electricity became more common.
