August 5 !!! Hurray! We will have the book on time for our summer vacation this year. Wonderful!

I see C.Hobbit made it home and picked up her Sadie. We are so relieved. Now if only her phone and license would be returned.

Nana! Going to her island home today!!! Woo Hoo !

Good morning, everyone! Glad Hobbit and Sadie are home safely.
Missing, the sun. Last seen Sunday Dec. 1. Reward.
Foggy, drizzly. Today is mom’s BBB day. Buy groceries. Bird cages. Bills..pay.

Wow! A whole month early. They usually come out in Sept, so this year we don’t have to wait so long.

Reading last night’s posts, saw that we were wrong about the colors on T & G’s house. Sage green is really slate blue. We like that too. Can’t wait to see more pictures.

Dawson, yes we just got on the Sur La Table email list. We saw an interview with the CEO the other day on the business channel and were impressed but what he had to say about sustainability, buying food locally and seasonally.

We bought a few things on line for gifts, but like you Dawson, we shopped the Clearance section. Got some great buys at 50-75% off. Their regular prices are high, but probably more reasonable than Williams Sonoma.

Yes, MagPie, that’s what I thought. A whole month early!

Sur la Table? What’s this about? I must have missed something while coughing.

HOH, found sun. Not giving it back.

Buddy and Leno, most people in NYC are nice. You just don’t hear about them. Have fun at the UN. Most people are nice there.

Today? Zoë has a full day. As neither of us have a left knee that likes to work we are down to one car.

Tomorrow I get to do things.

    Good morning all.
First off, we want to raise a paw in respect to Buddy and Leno in the Big City. What an honor to be covering the events at the UN. But do be careful. Not all New Yorkers are as nice as others.

And guess what? The painter is here. With the shutters! More pictures will be forthcoming.

Now we have to get Mama motivated to get to the store and make sure we have an uninterrupted supply of cat food.

    Home is where . .

You sit down and no one asks you, “Are you all right?”
Which is fine and dandy for awhile, and then you just want to make up carpola.
    “Yes, except I am losing my polite index in 3, 2, 1 . . .”

    Just saying

    Greetings!

    Welcome home, Nana!

Buddy and Leno: There are still some nice people left in New York! Grizz and I are nice. We live in New York!

Tyb: Another wonderful calendar page! You never take a bad picture!

    August 5th! Wow!

CHobbit: Glad you are back home safe and sound with Sadie. I do hope your belongings will be returned.

I hope Rebecca is safe in her travels, taking Airborne, and drinking lots of water.
What news about those rocks you ate?

RIO! Keep sniffing out for those nasty TMGs!

I can’t help but smile every time I see Teddy!

Come to think of it, seeing pictures of the Snowhhok team brings a smile to my face too!

Time to make a little run to Fresh Market. Barb, Queen of the Bargins, was there yesterday and bought a turkey leg and thigh which they were offering for .99 per lb. These were from their Fresh-Never Frozen turkeys from Thanks Giving. It cost a whopping $2.50. Cooked it last night and it was delish, with leftovers for two more meals. So Barb is going back today and buying 3 or 4 more and throwing them in the freezer. What a deal!

Masquers and Dawson. I answer to either Ruff or Rough; Ruff is what is on my papers although, as Dawson noted, Rough is how my namesake spelled it.

Dawson — I’ll ask my mom to get the latkes recipe to you when she gets home (she is out doing quilting stuff, but without me, me, me to supervise — how unfair is that?). Anyway me and dad are holding down the home fort, along with grandpa. Fortunately, we have pizza delivery on speed dial on my go phone.

My favorite was the burger, but hold the turtle on mine. The turkey cracked us up too.

We have sun here too, but we are storing it for the nasty weekend ahead. Batten down the poodles, we are in for a blow!

We have never read anything by Danielle Steele, until now. She has released a book about her travel size dog, and others in her life. Turns out that when you are bi-continental, and want a dog to share your travels, it must be under 12 lbs. Guess I won’t be seeing Rome.

I live in a Christmas free house to placate the man in the house who is the ultimate Scrooge. I do bake, bake, bake because I like to and there are always Christmas dinners to go to, like the one today at the Long Term Care in the hospital. I leave soon to help set up but first I have to pack up the goodies. I do not send Christmas cards and I don’t decorate and I don’t shop (very much) Okay, last year was an exception because I was in Minneapolis with Staff and Turtleman.

Teddy told me that I needed to post this recipe. His Grandpa ate more than 12 of them on Sunday. Teddy says that 12 is more than he can count but he thinks he would be in trouble with me if he ate that much of anything!!

    enjoy

    Potato Latkes

2 lbs Yukon Gold (also sold as yellow gold) potatoes
1 medium onion (prefer a sweet onion such as Maui Sweet or Vidalia)
    2 eggs
    ½ c matzo meal
    1 tsp kosher salt
    Vegetable Oil for frying

Shred potatoes on the large holes of a box grater.
Place in a strainer over bowl and press out liquid (let liquid set for 5 or so minutes; pour off to liquid and you are left with potato starch that you will incorporate into the latke mixture.
Take potato shreds and press out excess liquid in a kitchen towel. Shred onion on box grater and add to mixture. Mix together all ingredients gently with your hands.
Heat oil – at least ¾ inch deep. Form small thin patties by hand and fry in an electric skillet (oil at 375 degrees) a few at a time until the potatoes are completely opaque on the top side and crispy on the bottom. Flip and cook completely. Place on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet in a 300 degree oven to keep warm. Add a light sprinkling of salt and yummmmmmm.

Latkes are basically potato pancakes, and we love those. Barb’s grandma used to add a little flour, which would be similar to the matzo meal. They ate them with sour cream and/or catsup.

Hobbit, that tree is very cool. How do you create it?
Sam! We will be so happy for you when your girl is finally home to stay.

    *begin rant*
Some man sent his loving helpful wife to the store to get things for a do at school tomorrow. Said helpful wife does not do the grocery shopping, but was willing to do anything for her man. So, she picked up 3 bags of shredded lettuce, plus the makings for a cobbler like dish, which BTW she planned to bake even though she does not cook. Total cost $20, not that I’m counting.

Man comes home, looks at bags of lettuce, says why didn’t you just get lettuce to shred? That is not going to be enough and I will be the one who looks like a jerk for not bringing enough. Is still pouting and grumbling in the vicinity of the area needed to make the cobbler. ONE WORD while I am making the cobbler and he will be wearing it.
    *end rant*

Thanks for providing me a non-lethal way to take out my frustration.

Yup, it has been a long, busy day. Lots of running and packing and readying etc. the Storyteller didn’t seem too concerned. Just kept watching tv while he waited for the laundry. Then my dad took us out for dinner, and when we got back it was time to do the clothes packing. Still unfazed by all the flurry and scurry, Leonard watched the Rockefeller tree lighting and accompanying hoopla. It was only when he was asked for his clothing for packing that he got a panicked look on his face. He thought today was Tuesday, and we had all day tomorrow before leaving on Thursday. Huh? Why in the world did he think I was scurrying?

Today is not a good day for many of the men of the blog.

Can’t live with ’em, can’t kill ’em and if you sell them on eBay, the shipping costs will kill you.

But we love all the pictures and cartoons and links. Thanks for the laughs.
Goodnight, sweet dreams. There’s always tomorrow.

Welcome to your own warm bed, Nana. I still hear your name as in the singing card and it cracks me up. Sweet dreams.
