“This is exciting,” Spence says. “The patches have been shipped! They can be ordered from Snowhook!”

“How about reminding people what this is about?” says Admin.

“Good idea,” Spence says. “It’s all about and the wonderful and generous blog community known as the Plunderers helping to sponsor Snowhook Kennel in next year’s Iditarod race.”

“Which takes place in March.”

“Right. Way up north in Alaska. And here’s the Snowhook link. The Snowhook humans – Justin and Rebecca Savidis – are great, and the Snowhook dogs are things of beauty. And so is the patch, in my opinion. Can’t wait to be wearing ours.”

Welcome Leonidus and Buddy.

    The patches are out!
Kirby T. Penworthy: You were right. What was interesting about the photo was that it was sitting on a Chet the Dog Iditarod Patch.

T&G and B&S: Big congratulations to your mum on her five! blue ribbons and 3 other ribbons.

Macy MinPin: You can spell but you can’t count.

Oh yah…dog morning to you all.

Dog Morning to you too Dawson!

Cool . . . Can’t wait to have that patch in my little paws!

Off to the acupuncturist today! Then pool cleaning! Then who knows!

MollyPop, please keep your head down or at least something orange on. That is true for your mom as well.

One of the houses I rented was on a farm and the farmer gave permission for a hunter to go rabbit hunting. I came out of the house and noticed a shotgun aimed at me!

I had a few choice things to say to that hunter!

    So be careful out there.

    Greetings to All!

BEAUTIFUL day here in Westchester!!! Sunny, low humidity, and temps in the low 80’s. Yankees and Mets playing afternoon games at home today.

Buddy: You are quite a noble looking dog.

I’m squirming in my seat waiting for my patch. A work of art! LOVE it!

Oh Happy Day! Two exciting things to look forward to. Patches and then the cookbook.

Tomorrow at noon is actually the showing, so have a few tiddying up things to do today. One of the things Barb has been putting off is to carry dirt to the front yard and fil the hole I dug. Move over Siber, I am just as good when I set my mind to it! There was this little chipmunk (13-stripe ground squirrel) who needed chasing. Barb says she doesn’t know what happened to the dirt after I dug the monster hole, but it is missing.

    An Abundance of Good News!
Dawson’s Auction Treasures all arrive safely.

Walk!… My friend says Saturday she has to get up really early for a 5K walk….snort! ….She doesn’t even know exactly how far 5K is…heh!….But she is certain she will be able to finish it. Afterwards there is a pancake breakfast cooked by Fire Men – I think I see the reason she is doing this now….grunt!… Then there is a Parade, and later a big BBQ. All of which IWILL MISS!…sniff!… I could do the walk I bet. I’ve been training for this my whole life!…snort! … I do all this walking, walking, walking and then I don’t get to have the pancakes or the BBQ…dammit!

Wolfie: No, no. Chet & Whitey watching the race was the other choice. We opted for this one because of its simplicity and beauty.

The Cookbook! Another wonderful thing we will soon have in our paws.

    A pre-holiday auction too!

All these Wonder-Filled things to look forward to!

Not just the same guys who donated last time either….wuffle!

Very nice post today, Chet! The patches are ready!! The patches will arrive at my house long before it is cool enough for mom to wear one on a jacket.

Congratulations going out to T&G’ mom for her spectacular win. Boy, tee hee, She really won good!! We knew she would, and we are very happy about this.

Maggie, I tried the digging trick with a ground squirrel. I had no luck with that method…maybe you will. The ground squirrel has left my yard, though, so maybe something I did worked.
Barb, Best of luck tomorrow. I hope these people are the ONES.

Congratulations to the Royals’ Parental Units!

Please send good thoughts and prayers to OTAS and F! They just had an offered accepted on a house. It is now time for the dreaded inspection.

Boy it just took me an hour to catch up on the blog as I have been rather busy these last few days.

As a result Dawson’s future quilt is progressing and I have many more fireworks pictures! Today is a day of rest and then Friday the Finale!

Melanie, you asked about how I kept the camera steady. It does have some sort of steady program that helps, and I try not to breathe when taking photo’s. Sometimes nothing helps. Sometimes I am really calm.

Check my blog for some squiggley photo’s. They often make ‘arty’ photos that are more interesting than the non squiggley ones.

  28. Staff
    1:19 pm on August 11th, 2011

Here is one from last night that I caught perfectly. Well, after I cropped off all of the rest of the photo….:-)

My photo technique is to point the camera in the general direction of the action and then click whenever I feel like it. That usually works better than clicking when something great is happening because by the time the camera figures out the photo something else, usually not so great, is recorded.
Also that way I can watch instead of staring into the camera.

Dawson, glad you got your quilt. And the ARC. SO jealous!

I’m back home, so a quick check-in on the blog.

T&G’s mom or should I say Golinka: Congratulations! The recognition you’ve recieved for your art is a testament to your talent. I would be wonderful if you could share pictures of your artwork for those of us who weren’t able to meet you yesterday morning…

Siber-H: You are one handsome fellow with or without that dog tag. You only have eyes for your mama…and bacon…

Spence said the dogs on our team are a thing of beauty—oh, my. I can’t wait to see the patch. We’ve already sold one this morning. We will have a large patch on the sled bag and AJ and I will both wear a smaller patch on our parkas.

What does the ‘J’ stand for in AJ? Dawson is correct! AJ stands for Angry Jesus. The nickname was given several years ago partly due to his long hair and beard. There is a story there, perhaps for another time.

Commander Rio. I have just received some very disturbing ultra-secret intelligence through my most confidential sources regarding a serious plot by TMG to disrupt the auction if we were to undertake a second auction prior to Christmas. However, there may be alternate ways of additional fund-raising support, subject to confirmation from agent-in-training W. Lance. I will stay on top of this. To ensure maximum security is maintained, future communications should be transmitted by ecretsay odecay. Over and out, Agent 00Wookie

When Sam said Mollypop’s mom was turning 70 we thought it was a joke, big time. She looks more like early to mid 50’s. However, if she was a Jr. bridesmaid 60 years ago, you do the math! Was Sammy maybe being serious?

  44. Rose
    4:06 pm on August 11th, 2011

Siber and Rio: Any way of punching a small hole into the patch, and attaching to your collars?

  45. Mollypop
    4:06 pm on August 11th, 2011

Rio and Siber-H – Mom is going to buy a little sweatshirt for Sammie. Actually, her girl was supposed to do it and that hasn’t happened. Then the patch is hopefully not too big to go on one side of the shirt and a William Smith patch on the other side. The shirt may need a small slit on the back so Sam can wear it over her harness for the full effect.

OMD! Even though I rarely leave my yard, I would never go out without my tags. The last time I did that, I wound up in dog jail and was never able to go back to my old home, because the dog cops would not let me show them where I live. But….it all worked out, because mom really needed a nice little black dog and I happen to BE a little black dog…

Come on people throw us a bone here! Hole Bunch? Of meerkats? At least a chorkle.

Now for the Really Big News. Dad is so sad that mom and I are not going with him to DC that he bought us an Ipaw!! Of our very own. Hi everyone. Checking in for Mama since they are running all over Gallup like gravy on mashed taters. Extra super busy day for them and they are not through yet. Tonight is a friend’s birthday party followed by the Ceremonial Nighttime Parade
Thank you thank you thank you all for the congrats. Mama is pretty happy too. Her White Buffalo placed second in the sculpture category and this is the first time she has ever dared to enter that competition.
Dad’s silver and gold box won a blue ribbon, thank dog. That was the one they had to ship overnight cuz someone else kept “forgetting” to get the gold leaf for them. Sheesh
Don’t want to hog blog time but we probably won’t be back til tomorrow so:
    Staff-LOVE you fireworks pictures
    Macy- you crack us up
Rio – Basil and Sage had a suggestion about where you could put your patch-it was very rude
Siber – great idea about the bandana
Barb and Maggie -GOOD LUCK with the showing!!!
Rebecca- Mama is going to try to get pics tomorrow at the show. Last night was too crowded and hectic.
Melanie- hope you had a good time being needled by JG. Love ya and will call soon. Paws crossed for my boy and his girl!
Bee- save some gazpacho for us!
All our best to everyone – it’s green chile time!!!

I need to get back to work pulling tourists so we can earn tips. I earn tips, but Pancho and Lefty are thieves—mama says they have no manners.

P.S. Wookie, when do you think I’ll earn my special spy bow-tie like the one you wear?

Oooh, Whitey-Lance – I’m so in love with you.

Oh, Princess Sam! When I returned home after the royal wedding, mama informed me that the trees inside the cathederal do not, under any circumstance serve the same purpose as trees found in the out of doors.

I’ve been so worried that I embarassed you after the, um, incident. But mama tried to make me feel better—she has a way of always making me feel better, but this time it didn’t work. She said not to worry, all eyes were on the princess in white and not anyone else.

I told her that was exactly the problem. If all eyes were on the beautiful princess surely someone was bound to notice that her escort was watering the holy vegetation during the ceremony.

I’m going to put my patch on my “Please Don’t Litter” shirt that I wear everyday when my dad and I pick up litter on the trail we adopted. We walk the trail everyday to clean and fill Blou’s memorial bowl, so we thought we might as well do the clean up. We are amazed at how many people have taken pictures of their dogs drinking from the bowl and sent them to us.

A special hello and welcome to Whitey-Lance and the rest of the team on the glacier. How many blogs have a genuine Iditarod dog join them. WOO WOO
I hope the tourists are properly impressed with you guys and girls and are giving you generous tips.

Princess Sam: Wonderfluffed and beautiful don’t begin to describe you. I think I still had a bit of dirt under my claws from digging with Siber-H in the royal garden the night before, but no one seemed to notice.

Pancho and Lefty – here is what else they could be. That is the name of a restaurant and also name of the owners, I think, in Monroe, WI. Excellent Tex-Mex restaurant. The owners were chefs for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Gardner, came back to WI for the big cheese parade and stayed, opening a restaurant on the town square, 2 -3 years ago. They say the food is unbelievable, but still haven’t gotten up there to try it.

Barb is going bonkers. She had a smoke alarm that was chirping so she changed the battery. Kept chirping so she called the electrician, who said change all of them because they are in one big circuit. So now guess what? THEY ARE ALL CHIRPING ALL OVER THE FLIPPIN HOUSE! I don’t know how we can sleep tonight. Any suggestions, other than disconnecting them from the ceiling and having wires hangin out? Great timing with the showing tomorrow!!!! Grump and double grump!

Hey, y’all! I already know what I’m going to do with my patch. I have a coat that Dad puts on me when it gets cold out. I figure I’ll put my patch on that coat. Plus, the bonus booties that Rebecca sent me match the coat, so I’m going to be one well-dressed pup once the cold weather hits. Not today, though. Yesterday it was 102 degrees. I don’t think it was quite that bad today, but it was still plenty hot!

AIT Whitey Lance. Very good that you checked in. I am monitoring your progress very closely and am pleased to note that you are making great strides in your training regime. When the time comes for the bow- tie promotion ceremony, I will make sure to select a very special one just for you. 00Wookie

Well, it’s obvious, my boy is quite sweet on Princess Sam.

Pancho and Lefty are indeed thieves. Lefty is partial to gloves, and Pancho likes a good chapstick every now and again. Last year, I arrived home to find bits and pieces of AJ’s driver license, debit card, business cards and wallets laid out on the kitchen table. It seems he went to the kennel before emptying out his pockets (rookie mistake) and his pocket was picked by Pancho. AJ didn’t realize it until he passed back by Pancho and saw the remains of his wallet. His driver license survived with nothing more than an imprint of teeth on the bottom corner—doggie dental records.

Barb, can you throw the breaker switch? Maybe it wouldn’t effect anything else that would be noticable to the people that are coming to look at your house tomorrow.

Barb and Maggie: It is so annoying when even one smoke alarm is “chirping”. Can’t imagine a whole houseful of them going off at once.

  98. Siber-H
    10:06 pm on August 11th, 2011

Since the smoke alarms are also electrical, it probably wouldn’t work to just pull ALL the batteries out of them for now.
I’m worried about Barb and Maggie getting any sleep and also being driven nuts.

Pancho!…Wow! He really is a pickpocket! …heh!…Does Lefty distract the victim while Pancho nabs the goods?….snort! ….What a team!…wheeze!

Home!… Well our walk was cut a little short for some reason, not sure why, but I am glad to be home!…snort!…Now we are watching Next Foodnetwork Star…heh!…They are getting down to the nitty gritty…wuffle!

Batteries!… I’d tell you to take all the batteries out of the fire alarms, but we are reading a murder mystery where arson is involved…gulp!…Too many fires so far, not enough suspects. It is a Sue Henry book set up in Alaska near Wasilla …snuffle!

Rio: Wasilla is about halfway between Willow and Anchorage. I drive through Wasilla everyday on my way to the office and it is also where I go to do laundry.

Iditarod headquarters are in Wasilla. The day before the big race starts all the mushers bring there race dogs for a final vet check. That is a lot of dogs getting poked and prodded at once.

These are wired into the electrical system, the battreries are just back-up. I tried taking the batteries out and they still chirp. My SIl said to disconnect the wires, but I am aftraid I woln’t be able to get them reconnected. If I had a gun, I would shoot this one that is 10 feet away from me.

Going to try to sleep on the sofa, as there are no alarms in the living room. Night all!

B&M: I’m not a real estate expert, but I’d probably hold off on the shotgun upgrades until after an offer is made. In all seriousness, I hope you are able to get some sleep and able to get the problem solved in short order for the walk through tomorrow.

Willow!….So what’s in Willow, anything?…..snort!…Do you have to drive all the way to Wasilla to do laundry because Willow is so small?….grunt!

Vets!… That day sounds like a nightmare day for all the guys….yeep! ….I wonder how Pancho and Lefty do during that ordeal…heh!…They probably come away with a few thermometers and some other odds and ends…chorkel!

I think Willow has around 2,000 two legged residents, yet I heard once that the nation within a nation out number people here because of all the dog teams. What is here?—We have a video/liquor store, a small market, a small hardware store and a great veiw of Mt. McKinely on a clear day.

Rio: If you ever came to the Kennel, I would advise leaving your pugpack in a safe place.

Rebecca, I loved the Pancho and Lefty story.

T&G’s dad, Congratulations on the Blue Ribbon! I didn’t know you had also entered the art show. Photos would be appreciated if it isn’t too much trouble.

    Rio, Annual Green Chili report:

There is going to be a shortage of green chili this year because there was not enough water to irrigate it. They are telling people to buy it as soon as it comes into the stores.

The Cowboys are ahead fianlly. Football? Already?

The goo/bad news is that we broke our 100+ streak today with only 97. For an hour or so the temp went down to 88. Wow. But with only 3 more days left to set a record everybody was all like “let’s at least break the record”. Mom and Dad went to the movie and when they came out there were clouds and it was COOL. Mom did a little happy dance right there in the parking lot.

Has anyone seen “Cowboys and Aliens”. Mom and Dad really liked it, I was not invited. Again. *sigh*

Since mom has to get dad to the airport at 7 a.m. we are going to hit the hay, even though I do not see any hay at all. Nite-nite.

I just finished chores tonight and Rio the Good was a love—a bouncy, energetic, nose poking, hug giving love. The feed store was out of our normal maitenance food so we had to try a new food tonight; all reports give it two paws up.

While all youse turn in for the night, I’m going back outside to work on painting the dog barn and handler cabin. Alas, another day covered in teracotta outdoor stain.

Rio: I agree with you — we like the Sandwich King best. Mostly, though, we were just glad to get the Sexy Kitchen Mama — or whatever she was calling herself — out of there. Didn’t like her at all!!!

Macy: My boy wanted to see that movie, but I’m not sure if he ever did or not. Mom just thought it looked strange, although she does like Harrison Ford — isn’t he in that one?

Rebecca: My mom spent days and days painting a huge kitchen pantry a reddish-orange color. Now my girl is painting a microwave cabinet with the same paint. Only she has it on top of the island. The only problem is that that’s where Dad fixes my food, so he doesn’t have much room now. I wish she’d get that thing finished and back on the floor so Dad has more room to work. My food is important! I’m glad your guys like their new food. That’s very, very important!!!
