Paperback Excitement!

“Excitement?” says Admin. “Isn’t that a little over the top?”

“Maybe,” Spence says. “But what if we’re in an over-the-top frame of mind?”

Today is pub date for the paperback edition of A Fistful of Collars, book 5 in the Chet and Bernie series.

Welcome Audrey (nice name!), Sophie & Angel, Abi the little warrior.

Good morning! Abi is new FOC! Also welcome to Audrey 🙂 , Sophie, and Angel.

Mom is home again, and it looks like a repeat of yesterday. Second day, same as the first.

    Hey there, Howlers!

Abi is so adorable, and the new FOC are a good looking bunch!

Enjoy the day! One more day of work for me! Yippee!

Staff, Dawson, and Turtleman: I received my pawfolio. I LOVE it!
It is way too pretty to write in.

Good morning Family far and wide.
It is still grey and damp here and the weather guy says Thursday will be the start of a heat wave. Oh yippee.
FDM – Abi gets more adorable each time we see her. If she ever wants to come stay with her Auntiie Tup and Gil, just say the word.
And now – we need to go supervise from under the work table.

I’d like to see Spence in an over-the-top frame of mind. I’ll check out the paperback when I’m next in Barnes and Noble.

It’s very damp here also and we’re supposed to have more thunderstorms. At least it’s not hot.

    I love Abi!

    Good morning all.

Apparently, the pepper plants are loving the wet weather, as we see peppers on each of them, except the habbonera which usually comes later. We see tomatoes also, but we are worried about the effects of all this wetness on those guys. Also worried about our potatoes which are still in the ground.
On the chickie front, the ‘rents are still fussing and fawning and worrying over those little things. Are they warm enough? Are they too warm? Should we let them outside? Should we open a window? Jeez this is getting old. They’re stupid mini-chickens for cripes sake.

Oleys, Barb never let hers out till they are fully feathered. Think that is around 4-5 weeks. Also, wait till the grass is not wet. They cal chill easily when they are young. Is there wire on the top of the pen? Gotta watch for hawks during the day.

Barb is going to take me for a little play time with Fred, the crazy Lab next door. BBL

B: We are becoming concerned Spence is going to Run Out of Colors for the new book covers. Of course the paperbacks can be the same as the hard-book editions, but what about the others…what then?

Abi is so Cute! A little Ball of Fluff.

Siber-H: Have a great time on your trip to the Mountain Springs. It will be much cooler there. You will be missed, if only for a day.

Wose: A nice Long Weekend coming up for you and Grizz? Enjoy!

O’Howlers: We have one lonely Strawberry almost ready to harvest. One more day.
About the chickies…there is a rumor one can become addicted to the care of them. Do you know about this?
I know Barb&Magpie are missing theirs.

Melanie: Yesterdays Tea was Lovely. Thank you for the invite.

Tupper&Gilly: Don’t they always say the Quiet Before the Storm…or is it in the Eye of the Storm?
Please tell the Storyteller thank you for last nights Prayer for the Firefighters. We bowed our heads in a Moment of Silence for those Brave Souls.

Long Holiday Weekend for most of youse too?

Barb: Not to worry. It is very hot here so those chickies are fine. They are supposed to be at 80 now, which is what their coop is. By Thursday, ithey should be at 75 and their run is between 75 and 80. It has a full roof on it so it is not wet. At night, they have a heat lamp. I was told the “rules” by our feed guy, who also told me to let the chickies tell me. They are spread out and loving life and don’t seem cold at all. When the heat lamp is on they stay far away from it.

Time for a run to the market before the day heats up and the weekly sales run out.

Abi is very happy to be a FOC and thank you for all the compliments. I think her fluff got bigger from all the kudos.

Tupper and Gilly: May have to take you up on that. 🙂

Sounds like your folks are doing everything right with their new babies.

Barb took me next door and I had to chase that crazy Fred around and around, yippy at him because he did not seem to know I was herding him. Now I am back home, tongue hanging out, laying in a cool corner of the den. I am whooped!

  19. Tupper and Gilly

BearSpiritDog – fear not with colors. There are plenty of off- primary colors to choose. Magenta, puse, tangerine, sienna…..
OFA will never be able to write enough books to use up ALL the colors. Even if he could write 2 or 3 a year (subtle hint)

Does anyone know of a way to boast cell phone reception? I can tell if a call or message is incoming, but trying to talk is neigh impossible. At home we have our own little cell tower which is hooked up through the computer’s router.
Mom will make a call to see what the folks at Sprint advise.

    Staying cool as a cucumber.
Melanie: I would loved to have sampled one of those little sandwiches. Your High Tea sounds like it was so much fun.

  26. Barb & Maggie
    2:11 pm on July 2nd, 2013

We have had cucumber sandwiches on little rye rounds with a bit of cream cheese on the bread. Then dill sprinkled on the cucumber slice. Yum.

BSD, I guess you could call Fred my trainer. He is one crazy Lab, that is for sure. Barb and Jamie, Fred’s person, thought we could both benefit from the exercise. We are going to have a little play date once or twice a week. I wasn’t too happy with him at first because he came bounding out of the house and started jumping and barking right in my face. I had to snap at him a couple of times till he backed off a little. After that we hit it off pretty well.

Masquers – the best way to boost cell phone reception is to change your carrier. Sorry, but the one you mentioned is just terrible around here. We switched a few years back to one that had coverage as far as the “horizon” (hint hint) No more trouble after that.

We know a full grown Pom – we really like her, but we are afraid to play with her as she is so tiny. The cool thing about Poms is they retain that puppy face look all their lives.

  32. Masquers

    5:12 pm on July 2nd, 2013

    Oh, Masquers…..

Barb has had Cell One for years and has been happy with it. They are selling out and her service will be ending soon. They sold to another company. Hint: to run really fast for a short distance. Masquers, does that give you any ideas?

Anyhoo, the company that T & G mentioned is supposed to be much better in this area. The other one, not so much. Only drawback in not switching over automatically to the new company is that we will lose our cell # that Barb has had for about 8 years.

Dawson, I don’t make fancy cucumber sandwiches like Barb and MagPie. I score the cucumber with a fork – lengthwise – then peel it. When I cut it, the scoring has made excellent green indentations. I then cut it up like wheels.

I place them on a buttered piece of bread. Add salt . . and viola! (dyslexic joke) It is done. With two cucumbers I was able to do 24 sandwiches.

My experiment for the day . .

The nephews have put in the AC units for the past few years. Every year the AC units need more and more tape or towels underneath them.

I thought I would THINK it through first. I took the hardest window – completely off plumb – and using shims, a 2 x 2 and pipe insulation foam, made it work.

I will now do the 2 x 2, the pipe insulation foam and shims and correct each window so the AC unit drips OUTSIDE. I will not be moving any more AC units.

Tomorrow I hit the road down to a lumber store.

It isn’t beautiful, but it works!
