Pablo Sandoval Day
“Kind of undermined your World Series pick,” Admin says.
“Ain’t over till it’s etc.,” says Spence.
“Where are you today?”
“Chicago. I’m on two panels: 1st stop at Lake Villa District Library at 1PM, then at 6 PM at The Cellar in conjunction with Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter.”

Good Morning Everyone!
YES!! It is Panda day! I agree with Spence that it isn’t over yet.
10:54 am on October 25th, 2012
Chicago, Chicago, it’s my kind of town! Have a great time, Spence! Eat some pizza!
When I was a little girl, Dan would take me in on the train and we’d go to lunch someplace where you could see the Chicago river. Not always a good view . . I bet it’s better now.
The dogs were really cute after eating all that food. They were a mass of black, white, brown and gray in the middle of the barn. Most on their backs, tummies in the air, to cool off. The barn roof lifted about 2 inches with all the released gasses.
10:56 am on October 25th, 2012
I was the first!
I just looked at the latest projected storm track of Sandy. It isn’t good. Spence, start preparing! They are saying that it will be worse than The Perfect Storm in 91. BTW, The Perfect Storm is a very good book.
11:13 am on October 25th, 2012
The two links aren’t working for me. Both take me to Chet’s blog of September, 2010. Have a good time Spence. Chicago is fun.
Good morning all.

Chicago hint – best breakfast in town is Lou Mitchell’s – spinach and feta omelette to dir for. Donna says cheddar and apple. Just west of the Loop – http://www.loumitchellsrestaurant.com/
Just ran across this webcam for 10 day old Great Dane puppies –
no dog lover can resist! http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/great-dane-service-puppies-indoor-puppy-room
If another hurricane is coming we’ll hunker down in Queens again. This is getting a bit old…..
The dog is named Crazy Daisy, available for adoption from the Rescue Ink facility.
Baseball – my teams are out of the hunt, and I like the Giants and the Tigers about equally well, so my version of rooting is to say “Let the best team win.”

Lived through the Perfect Storm on the coast above Boston.
Awe inspiring is the only way to describe it. I went out on a ocean rock ledge the day before the storm. The ocean was lead colored and sort of pressed down. Hard to explain.
The night before the storm, Zoe and I were trying to get back from somewhere on the coast road. I needed to get back for the guys’ Halloween. In the town south of us we passed through 6 inches of ocean. It poured while the guys and I went around. I held a huge umbrella. Hardly any other kids were out, so my guys got a LOT of candy just going around the block.
The day of the storm, which we called the Halloween storm for quite awhile, the crossway to the other part of town was closed. They parked an ambulance over there just to have some sort of medical support. We walked down to the harbor and the waves were crashing in the harbor 6 to 8 feet high. No one was allowed near the ocean.
The next day? Well, the fishermen and lobstermen were no dummies and had pulled their boats in. The yachts were up against the causeway stranded. The causeway was completely filled up two to three feet high rocks and boulders. The small food shack (best fries ever) was completely gone.
A few houses were flooded, but they were mostly newer houses, not the ones from the 1700’s.

From a safe place, Mom would love to see a storm like that. Have I mentioned before that my mom isn’t sane.

I am not sure Rio should be allowed on this site.
12:05 pm on October 25th, 2012
All the Smoochers have been returned to their respective homes. It is always hard to leave Wose. We had fun shopping for Halloween costumes online. Belle Starr and Wose picked out the former’s costume. It seems like Belle Starr will be dressed as a pug dressed as a pug.
12:08 pm on October 25th, 2012
tee hee. Masquers, Once you are home from Wose’s check this out. If they stop bouncing you can give them a nudge. These kats love to bounce.
They want to bounce
They need to bounce
They love to bounce.
snicker
12:14 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sam is back with me. She says she had a great time taking care of Wose.
Sammie has an odd smell – eau de skunk.
12:15 pm on October 25th, 2012
Good morning all. If we had not seen Spence before in Naperville we would have to take a drive over to Lake Villa today. I bet Spence comes to Chicago more since Ben is living here. Orphans of the Storm rescue has been around for a long time and has a good rep.
12:18 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff – that’s really funny. I think it would go well with more than two glasses of Cahors.
12:26 pm on October 25th, 2012
Good morning, All.
Kat is back on the farm. She keeps singing
“How Ya gonna keep her down on the farm
Once she’s seen the Hudson”.
Apparently she had a very good time, and was the envy of all the 4-leggeds because of her cologne. Wose? Not so much.
12:26 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie: Do you have any idea why the new houses were flooded but not the old ones?
12:30 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sandy is predicted to slam Cape May in So. Jersey on most of the models. From there, it hits S.E. Pennsylvania. Yikes! This weekend, we will be saying bye bye to our doggie lounge chairs, along with all of the other outdoor furniture. The rents are going to do a trial run with the new generator.
12:43 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sounds like you are battening down the hatches and testing out the emergency hardware. A good idea.
Now time for lunch.
12:44 pm on October 25th, 2012
OMD It’s snowing!
12:59 pm on October 25th, 2012
Snow!…It snowed here last night…grump!…Someone was very unhappy when she had to scrap off her car and drive to the screwed-up-busy-place…sniff!…Beau and I watched her leave from the top of the chair in front of the window in the warm living room…wuffle!
Pablo!….Woooooo!…Again tonight! How many homeruns will he hit?…snort!snort!
1:13 pm on October 25th, 2012
We are tracking the storm here in Chevy Chase as well, some models have it hitting further south. Hopefully our good friends at PEPCO are starting preparations now, just in case.
Rio, you asked last night about who we are rooting for — definitely the Giants although we don’t dislike the Tigers. Mom’s dad was a big Giants fan and grandpa even rooted for the Giants back in the day when they were the NY Giants.
SiberH — I agree with you that I would not want to have Alburquerque as a last night. Did you note that he spells it the traditional way, with the extra “r” in it. That is the way it is supposed to be spelled, but your home town (and my dad’s) dropped the extra “r” along the way and no one ever reported it as missing or seemed to care.
Wookie
1:22 pm on October 25th, 2012
Wookie, no matter where this storm makes actual landfall, they are saying it “has all the earmarks of a billion-dollar storm, because of the heavily populated areas that will be affected. Tell your folks to make those hotel reservations.
2:04 pm on October 25th, 2012
Wookie, I did notice the different spelling and it reminded me that Albuquerque was once spelled that way.
I’m like Wookie, I don’t hate the Tigers like I do the Dirty Birds. If the Tigers do win the World Series, I’ll live and probably not complain. (much)
I’m glad that all of you that could be in Sandy’s path are preparing for it.
2:16 pm on October 25th, 2012
Curious why my morning comment is being held. It’s about dogs. Hello?
2:24 pm on October 25th, 2012
Yikes! Did you say the Cape? Audrey and Pearl take care & prepare.
O.Howlers, River Bears, Royals, Wookie…batten down the hatches! Paws crossed for the Best possible scenario.
Melanie & Zoe were the hostesses with the mostesses, but for some reason we all ended up sleeping in the barn. Something about gas?
Home now and ready for another nap.
Terry: Were the dogs you mentioned wearing shows by any chance?
2:26 pm on October 25th, 2012
Terry, Did you use the word S*H*O*E? Or mention Gamb(o)ling?
Shoos are deadly words. Always get moderated.
Or if you put in a link and a picture at the same time.
Such a fussy moderator.

Eau de skunk was the Parfum du jour on Wednesday. The lingering fragrance continues……
Staff: I think Bluekat has the right idea.
Great game! When am I ever going to have a chance to watch? yesterday on a mission, tonight watching a Person of Interest aka YSAS.
2:46 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff – link and picture. Guilty.
3:01 pm on October 25th, 2012
I’m still dizzzzzzy…do you think it was the Cahors?
3:05 pm on October 25th, 2012
Try again with just one link and no pictures (and still nothing about footwear of any kind):
Just ran across this webcam for 10 day old Great Dane puppies –

Kat! How embarrassing! Everyone thought it was moi! That I was the miniature Pepe Le Pew. Just because I’m black and white is no reason……
3:15 pm on October 25th, 2012
That is a great link, Terry. Live coverage of the wee service dogs to be and their proud mom.
3:28 pm on October 25th, 2012
Done!…Someone just sent me a text on my little Go-Phone…sniff!…She says she has a headache from banging her head on her desk…grunt!…She says she can’t continue this way much longer…snuffle!… She says she wants to know how much Beau and I have eaten today….burp!
3:57 pm on October 25th, 2012
B.Stover: The newer houses were built much closer to the water line.
Also, Prof, because my guys continue to misplace commas or not use them in their texting to me . . I have begun to sign my emails and texts “Love Mom” instead of “Love, Mom”. They have not noticed yet.
Staff: LOVE IT.
Terry: Going to look at the link.
Just back from the v e t. Got some meds. Then to Wallyworld and on to the grocery store. Whew, time for a rest.
Glad you made it back, BearSpiritDog!
3:58 pm on October 25th, 2012
Terry, that scene looks very familiar. Wonder if they switched in some Newf pups while she was asleep!
4:33 pm on October 25th, 2012
Watching the puppy cam…they are finally ALL asleep!
4:37 pm on October 25th, 2012
Well. That didn’t last long. There is always one who just can’t lie/lay still.
5:02 pm on October 25th, 2012
The power of a comma! Melanie, you should point out the difference to your guys and see if they realize the difference in meaning. Love Mom. Love, Mom.
5:23 pm on October 25th, 2012
We started the day with sun and warm temps. Now it is getting dark and windy, with a 40 degree temp drop by tonight. At least we are not on the east coast.
5:28 pm on October 25th, 2012
Bear: You need the intransitive verb “lie” because the action refers to the subject of the sentence not a direct object. Two ways to rephrase it: The dog lies on the bed but never stays still. (Intransitive) I will lay the dog on the bed but he won’t stay still. (Transitive because the dog is the direct object.)
6:01 pm on October 25th, 2012
Masquers, sorry you got blamed. But hey, you sure do look a lot like that kitty I was playing with on Monday morning.
6:12 pm on October 25th, 2012
B.Stover, I’m hoping it will be driven into their minds sublimely.
snicker . .
Pork and apples tonight.
Beginning to begin the start of getting ready for the maybe storm. Checking gas containers for the generator. Finding the board that bars the barn doors. Making sure the back door to the barn gets a latch.
Batteries, and such.
I am going to make a big pot of Brunswick Stew!
Hopefully we won’t have to hunker down and it goes out to sea.
6:15 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sublimely?? What the Kat??
Let’s try . . “I’m hoping it will be driven into their minds subliminally.”
6:23 pm on October 25th, 2012
Terry, your post from this morning has now shown up. Crazy Daisy looks like a lot of fun! We have not yet had a chance to look at the video yet, but will try to do that later this evening.
Youse guys know that Sasha is on a ton of meds: pain pills, senility pills, nerve damage pills, etc. she hates taking them, and the rents hate giving them, well, Mom has found these Greenies pill pockets. They come in different flavors, but Sasha’s are peanut butter flavor. Sasha loves them! And we 3 are jealous because it sure feels like we are being ripped off in the treats department. If any of you 4-leggeds have to take pills, you got to try these. They even make them for cats.
6:25 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie: Grammar doesn’t work subliminally.
6:26 pm on October 25th, 2012
I read subliminally. (for Sublimely)
Rio, The snow melted on contact. Nothing stuck to the car thank dog.
6:27 pm on October 25th, 2012
Thank you, B.
Melanie: We knew what you meant. snicker.
6:31 pm on October 25th, 2012
We are definitely on the same wave-length here. You can’t really make a mistake on the blog because we all read it the way it was meant.
6:33 pm on October 25th, 2012
Howlers: I have a special place in my heart for Sasha. Maybe it’s becaus I miss Howard so much. I will make sure Tenzing takes some of her favorite pill pockets to the Quilt. I bet her Moon Man is never far from her side.
6:34 pm on October 25th, 2012
I’m back from my Big Trip. Oh wait, the Big Trip was the one Kat went on and I had to stay home. So I was determined not to like her, but she’s great! She’s my new BFF.
That dog Maskies is nice but he makes funny noises. He’s the same size as me, which is good, but those weird sounds!
6:44 pm on October 25th, 2012
Hmmm, if as the Wikipedia has, that Subliminal stimuli is “any sensory stimuli below and individual’s threshold for conscious perception.” then I believe that my missing comma could be a subliminal stimulus. Thus a subliminal demand to “Love Mom”. This, of course, would be if my guys remember how to use a comma!
6:55 pm on October 25th, 2012
Terry – thanks for the puppy cam reminder. We watched Holly’s Half Dozen grow into beautiful Wookies.
Staff – I sent your cat-bounce around the country. My friends love it. Yay. Another internet addiction.
You east coasters, please take care.
7:06 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie, How do you make Brunswick Stew?
What is going on with G&G? Haven’t heard from them today have we?
7:11 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie: Your use of commas subliminally is sublime.
7:15 pm on October 25th, 2012
We have not heard from Mr. Redbone Hound in some time…
7:20 pm on October 25th, 2012
Bluecat – we’re watching and waiting.
7:20 pm on October 25th, 2012
Smoochers, I just want to thank youse guys again for taking care of me after the lightning bolts. I went to work today, but I had a lot of aches and pains, and a sore throat.
7:24 pm on October 25th, 2012
Pill Pockets. If Abbie needs a pill that is what I have to use. She gets salmon flavor. Alice has figured them out so I just give pills to her plain. She is happy if she gets a treat after. And a treat before. And a treat anytime she gets up on the dresser where I give her the pills even if it isn’t pill time.
She has me trained.
7:25 pm on October 25th, 2012
Wose, just rest and take it easy. I should have stayed another day.
7:32 pm on October 25th, 2012
Rose: Sammie is right. A couple of us should have stayed with you. We are small enough to be smuggled into the busy place. Remember Riö’s advice…take some Airborne and snuggle up under the quilt.
7:33 pm on October 25th, 2012
Terry, Your monitored post from the start of the day is showing on my computer now. Cute dog that Crazy Daisy.
7:34 pm on October 25th, 2012
Me too Wose. I should have stayed. I can blur myself up there now. Luna taught me how. Just say the word. And I know I could pick up the itty bitty Princess and bring her along.
7:40 pm on October 25th, 2012
Rose, take it easy tonight and crawl under the quilt if needed.
We use the liver flavor Greenies. They are wonderful!
7:41 pm on October 25th, 2012
My two-legged will never know we’re gone. I’m sure of it. Smoochers on three!
7:49 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff – We set a new record with our 80 degree day. We’re at one end of the Great Lakes and you’re at the other – and you have snow. And you’re sending it to us. That’s not nice, you know.
8:06 pm on October 25th, 2012
Rose: I’m bringing my special remedy. You will be feeling tip top in no time.
8:08 pm on October 25th, 2012
Aunt MollysMom, I thought you love snow? After I get Wose all smooched up, can the Princess and I come up to skiless country for your SNOW? I don’t even know what snow is, but the other Howlers tell me I will love it.
8:16 pm on October 25th, 2012
Grammar!…I think I finally got the Lie vs Lay thing figured out…sniff!…Now I just need an excuse to use the words…heh!
Home!…My friend finally came home and took us for a short walk because it is so cold outside….shudder!…Now we are downstairs watching the second game of the World Series, which just started by the way….Woooooooo!
8:19 pm on October 25th, 2012
Giant!…There is a guy on the Tigers team that is even taller than AJ the Giant!…wheeze!….He is six foot eight and still growing…chorkel!
8:22 pm on October 25th, 2012
I’m in the basement watching also. I snuck one of Dawson’s Salted Nut Rolls as a treat. I have to eat it fast because I have to take pills tonight and have to not eat for about 1 hour before.
You know I think the Turtleman has been sneaking them also because when I first got here in September I took one and this is only my second and the box is almost empty. It was mostly full when I took the first one. I don’t think he has found her stash of Chocolate though. Unless he is eating them and carefully putting back the empty wrappers. (He has been known to do that) Snicker.
8:24 pm on October 25th, 2012
Hmmm, I know you Giant and Tiger watchers will be busy, but I will be watching YSAS get shot on Person of Interest. I will then go to bed.
First, while I’m waiting . . another Inspector Lewis.
8:26 pm on October 25th, 2012
Dawson!… heh!heh!…Her snacks are being pilfered and her team is behind in the World Series, and Fielder just got thrown out at home plate….chorkel!
8:28 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie!…I can watch Clarkson get shot another night because I do believe that show is ON DEMAND….woooooo!….Tell us how far into the program his shotting is though, so we don’t miss it…wuffle!
8:31 pm on October 25th, 2012
Interest!…Hey, that show doesn’t come on till 8:00 so I may be able to watch Clarkson afterall…heh!…Especially if this is a big-blowout for the Giants…snort!
8:33 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sooooo, what the weather people are saying, I think, is the Hurricane is going to merge with that mass of stuff coming out of Canada?
8:35 pm on October 25th, 2012
My Dear Niece Kat – Come here to what will be SKI country in a month. Bring a sled and we will have a great time. If we don’t get enough natural snow, in spite of what Staff is sending now, the snow guns will be blazing and I will post pictures. We sing at the fire pit, I know you can do that, we cuddle by the fire, I know you can do that, and we drink which you can’t do because you’re too young. I’ll give you beef broth while I have vodka.
8:39 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melani, do you know how far into POI our guy comes on?
8:42 pm on October 25th, 2012
Fister!….Just got hit on the head with the ball right off the bat…gah!…He is back on the mound like nothing happened…wheeze!….What a Giant!!!
8:48 pm on October 25th, 2012
It is me…reporting in…watching the game
Melanie, That is also what I hear the weather people saying.
The storms will merge. This is not good if it happens.
8:49 pm on October 25th, 2012
Jeez! I hope he is OK. That looked horrible.
8:54 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sam, nope!
I’m going to watch until he’s done. Text him to say congrats and go to bed.
So TTFN
8:55 pm on October 25th, 2012
They were talking about that storm on the public radio here. They said that the computer simulations are all closing in on the coast between Baltimore and Boston. High population areas. Youse guys stay safe now and get ready.
These Giants pitchers are the bomb.
8:56 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff!…Maybe it just skipped off his big giant ear…sniff!…He is acting like nothing happened. I hope he doesn’t keel over later…wheeeze!
SiberH!…Has now joined us for some fun!fun!fun!…yipppeeee!
9:00 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie: I will watch Person of Interest.
Ha Ha! Take that, Scutaro!
9:01 pm on October 25th, 2012
Slider!….Did you see how far Scootie slid?…heh!heh!
9:04 pm on October 25th, 2012
He was sure going fast on his tummy. He looked like he was on a skateboard.
9:05 pm on October 25th, 2012
Yes, I did. I like the name Scootie for him.
Is he the one that was a Twinkie before he joined the Rockies?
9:05 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff: You’re making me hungry…Dawson’s nut rolls sound Good. I can’t find anything like that around here…only nuts. Nuts.
9:06 pm on October 25th, 2012
Come on Tigers. Lets GO!
9:08 pm on October 25th, 2012
Melanie: We will be watching YSAS. POI comes on at nine here just before Elementary.
9:09 pm on October 25th, 2012
Nope, Scootie was never a Twinky. Delmon Young with Detroit was a Twin.
9:09 pm on October 25th, 2012
SiberH!….All I know is he was on the Red Sox team for awhile. Not sure if he was a Twinkie…sniff!…Maybe Staff can answer that question once she swallows that nuttie roll…heh!
9:11 pm on October 25th, 2012
Wow! Great defensive plays by the Giants in that inning.
9:23 pm on October 25th, 2012
I wish our east coast Plunderers could blur here to wait out the storm. Yeep!
9:24 pm on October 25th, 2012
Fielder!…We felt the earth shake when Fielder hit the ground …snort!
9:27 pm on October 25th, 2012
I wonder if Debbie LM has her hotel reservations yet?
9:28 pm on October 25th, 2012
When is the storm actually going to hit?
We will be going to bed soon. Been a long day.
Still haven’t heard from G & B have we?
9:29 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff!…We here were just wondering the same thing….snort!…thinking about Wookie and his family. Hoping Spencer can get home from Chicago in time to feed Audrey and Pearl….sniffle!…What will become of them all in this huge storm?..whiffle!
9:30 pm on October 25th, 2012
Fielder can play first base better than I thought he could when I saw him just in the Home Run Derby. He is a big dude.
9:30 pm on October 25th, 2012
Pitts!….Brad Pitt is now doing cologne commercials…grunt!…How far has he fallen?…sniff!cough!
9:33 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff. I’ve got my bag already packed just in case. And mom will make sure that the IPaw is fully charged. And dad will make sure that the Wookiemobile is fully gassed up. All contingencies covered.
Wookie
9:35 pm on October 25th, 2012
Snicker. Quite a commercial. I was wondering what it was about.
I have never thought Brad was a hottie till now. I can see how he got that reputation.
So Fister is the giant on Detroit’s team. 6’8″
9:35 pm on October 25th, 2012
Wookie!…Are youse guys all watching the game tonight?…snort!snort!…Even your Maw?…heh!
9:38 pm on October 25th, 2012
Staff: And, oh yeah, I mean I believe every word you are telling me about missing salted nut rolls! Sure I do.
I am watching Person of Interest but I also am recording it so in case I miss YSAS (I may have already missed him) I can watch again.
9:39 pm on October 25th, 2012
Brad!…It pains me to watch Brad’s career – so I quit….sniff!…Twelve Monkeys is his best acting ever…grunt!
9:39 pm on October 25th, 2012
Sounds like you are ready for anything Wookie. I know your Mom is a good organizer. Heh, They just showed a young girl with a pet Chicken. Too bad it is a Bank of America commercial.
9:39 pm on October 25th, 2012
Wookie? How far will you have to go to get out of the way of the storm?
9:40 pm on October 25th, 2012
Heh heh, Now Dawson, you know the Turtleman. What a candy hog. I swear I am innocent.
9:44 pm on October 25th, 2012
Dawson!…Besides you know Staff is not supposed to eat salty things….snort!…So you can’t blame her for all the salty nutty rolls missing…heh!
9:51 pm on October 25th, 2012
Rebecca!…I almost didn’t see your post up there…snort!…ARe you still at the busy-place or are you coming home?…sniff!…How are you feeling these days?…wuffle!

Lard. We buy lard all the time. And no, AbbietheKitty does not get lard. We use it to make suet cakes for the birds. Lard and Peanut butter, oatmeal, flour, sugar, corn meal and sunflower seed hearts and no salt peanuts.
The birds love it. Even in the summer the Orioles, Red Breasted Grosebeaks and Catbirds love it.
