Our Very First Post (From Jan. 20, 2009), 4 Years (Plus 2 Days) Ago

Inauguration Day. Don’t know what that means, exactly, but Bernie’s been glued to the TV all day. Bernie and I run the Little Detective Agency. I’ll get into that some other time. The only interesting thing I picked up from the TV is that those two little girls want one of my guys to join their family, my guys meaning a member of what Bernie calls the nation within the nation, namely dogs. Anyway, a great idea! I can’t join their family myself, of course – much too busy and besides, we’re a team, me and Bernie – but I’ve spent some time in the pound and know there are plenty of good candidates there. By the way, just in case you got the idea I can talk, I can’t (and wouldn’t even want to). But I can think, better believe it!

Welcome Scout, from Missoula MT:

I love the way you think Chet. Scout is having fun in the snow. (The wind chill here is minus sixteen.)

Good morning, B. The wind chill here is -5. BRRRRR. The Prof and I are giving our Alaska jackets a trial run today.

I wish Chet would write more on the blog. He is a great mind!

Great first post! We don.’t remember when we started reading, nor when we started posting, but we do remember it was a sputtering start. All of the posters seemed to know each other and live near each other. It was so confusing. Then Bee put together that list of Plunderers for us. That helped a lot.

Good morning all. Bone chilling here too. Barb left me alone last night and I just looked at her like she was crazy when she put on her coat and left. That is NOT our routine, and I insist on routine. She came back this morning after feeding, dressing and then taking the wee ones to school. She said she is exhausted already. How did she ever do it years ago? Now she picks up Jack at 11:00 then Lyla at 3:00, then is done at 4:00. She will need a cocktail!

It was fun reading that first post. Hard to believe 4 years has gone by. Who were the original posters? Was Rio one of them?

I think Cosmo may be an occasional lurker now, not sure. I had maintained SDD contact with Cosmo’s mom for a while after the posting stopped; I think there was a lot going on in her personal life that required a lot of attention. But as you may recall, Cosmo did make it into the quilt.

ATTENTION PLEASE: We are very, very close to having a first prize winner. I had fun writing the four poems. (They are from a series called “Winter Scenes” and I was describing some photos I had taken one very cold winter day…something like today except there was more snow on the ground then.) Rio’s friend printed out each poem in beautiful calligraphy and matted each. She has created an exquisite quilling piece for each poem. I’d love it if some Plunderers owned these pieces. And, it’s for Snowhook!

Please submit bids to Rio. Then we can have as much fun as we did last year watching AJ and the team running in the Iditarod.

Good Brrroning! It’s gotten warmer here. We’re up to a 14 degrees with a wind chill factor of 2. Hmm, the stockade has not been cleaned yet for some reason.

Zoë’s care meeting went. Hmmm. It went. They certainly know that we are not pleased. That’s the best that can be said of it.

(whispering) Now about the Raven’s tree. Zoë asked me to keep it alive. It’s still alive. It’s been over a month now and it’s growing buds at the end of the top branches.

    Mr.Husky,
Dawson and I took a ‘class’ in luminaries at the Linden Hills Co-op in 2011. Then that winter, last year, was so warm that we only made one in the freezer where it stayed for the longest time. I finally put it out and lit it in March. I loved it.

So this year we have had lots of lovely cold and I have two in the front and 4 in the back, outside the kitchen window, and light them most every night.

I am going through votive sized candles like a dog through slim jims.

They are my silent memorial to Maggie. Except last night when I about froze my fingers off trying to get the candles lit. Do you know if it is harder to get matches to light when it is really cold?

Cold here too, plus snow on the ground. Ugg. But, at least it is only a shallow snow, which isn’t as bad for those of us ladies with short legs.

We used to hear all about the blog from Melanie and the Pack. Back in those days, we had an ancient, wheezing computer that took forever to boot up. So, we didn’t spend a lot of time on it for any reason that wasn’t mandatory. Then we got a newer computer, and decided to start seeing what it was that made Melanie laugh so much. We lurked for quite a while trying to figure out who was what and where and why.

Our first post mentioned we were Corgis, and Macy teased us about our short legs. But we explained why Corgis had been created so perfectly, and there we were – off and running.

    Its been interesting………….

Melanie, How often do you have to haul the poop off to the dump?
Mom says that just one dog’s week’s worth of dog poop is quite a bit. The trash guys haul it off once a week. Mom always puts it on top of all the trash in the cart to discourage would be identify thieves from going through the trash.

We have a system that uses lime during the two weeks and that keeps things from smelling and lessens the amount that needs to go in the large green trash container. The large green trash container is HUGE and is put out every other week. The recycling goes the other week.

I am still trying to catch up on the recycling from a certain holiday. Even though we used reusable bags to wrap . . the boxes things came in was amazing.

Siber: Seattle has a different system which incorporates yard waste with food and any paper with food scraps on it, which we don’t have. Folks here cancel their yard pickup during the winter months & resume again in the spring. A wasted resource if you ask me. Your dad knows what he’s talking about.
Riö: Now that you mention it Mom did something similar to your friend using her name. Likewise she didn’t get a response and stopped posting. It was intimidating because everyone on the blog knew one another and had a language all their own. This took some getting used to.

Mom is spitting mad. First off, Pop locked us inside today, as if it is too cold out. Hello? We are Siberian Huskies. So Kat got bored and chewed up the remote control for the RabbitAir. Without the remote, Mom says it won’t work. Sigh.
Then when she went to feed, it seems the one bin was empty. The unopened bags are kept in an old, non-working chest freezer, because of rodents. Mom can’t lift bags out of there without a lot of time and strain, especially when it is full (it is). Then, the frost-free faucet is frozen, so she has to carry water buckets up to the barn. After all of that, and just before mucking stalls, she has to throw down hay. Pop believes in that old adage ” why do today if you can put it off until Mom is stuck with it”.
Bluecat, thanks for noticing how articulate we are. We have been learning how to speak articulate Siberian for a long time now.

Ummmm…I was waiting for someone to comment about my drinking Pont Du Diable (Bridge of the Devil) to get warm. Here’s a link to a picture and the legend according to the wine maker:

“This devilishly good wine is named after the 14th century Pont Valentré, in the heart of Malbec country, which took so long to build that the master mason made a pact with the Devil to ensure its completion. Five centuries later masons put a sculpture of the Devil in one of its towers, thereby imprisoning him.”

B: Mom says she would enjoy a glass of that wine with the interesting history right now.

A Rabbit Air is an air filtration machine.

I’m starting to think Pancho and Lefty have been sampling from B’s wine cellar for ages. The devil made me do it is an excuse heard often, but only believed on occasion.

I am waiting to board a plane to go to the feels-like-my-second-home village in the north. I get on a small plane tomorrow morning. The Internet isn’t always reliable so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me from tomorrow morning through Thursday night. Wheeze!

Rio: I have been taking airborn today like a pug downing hot wings and beer. I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat. I can’t get sick this week, no I can not.

I came to this here blog in March of 2011 at the urging of a certain pug. I remember very vividly telling Coach, the father not the dog, I was going to post a special message to these folks called the Plunderers. I have said many times since, everyone should be so lucky to have a cheering section like we have in the Plunderers.

Thanks for letting us rant for Mom earlier. This winter weather hit so fast, the rents forgot all the precautions they do, like disconnecting the hose in the barn, and blankets under the doors up there to keep the wind out. It got really cold in the barn today, even with the doors closed, and the horses’ water is icy now. But both rents are in better moods and laughing at how ill-prepared they were even though they had seen the forecasts. Ithas been so mild this winter (untilnow) and last winter, they forgot how brutal the cold is.

Fellow Sibers, Mom once read this in a book about Sibers. The Native people in Siberia treated their dogs (us) much better than the other peoples of the Arctic North did their dogs because they believed we guarded the gates of heaven.
Maybe this is why we are lovers and not fighters and maybe this is also why we just don’t give a darn about following orders.
