Oscars

“What does it mean that the only two movies we actually saw,” says Spence, “The King’s Speech and The Fighter, were the big winners last night?”

“It means,” says Admin, “that we’re hip and cool.”

I open my eyes. Admin and Spence are hip and cool? Is that what I just heard? We got involved with some hipsters once, a case that all came down to a pork pie hat and whose was it. Hats, of course, smell just like whoever wears them but more so, meaning IDing the perp – happened to be a traveling graffiti artist name of Wanksy – wasn’t much of a challenge. But the point is Admin and Spence wouldn’t make you think of Wanksy in any way. Funny thing right now is how pleased with themselves Admin and Spence are looking.

RIP: Duke Snider

What shall we do about it Chet?! Hey, there’s a new thing over to the right that I have to look at…probably tweets.

    Good morning Chet and everyone.

    Hipsters?….snuffle.

Oscars!… No one messed about last night, they were all on their best behavior….snort!…Made for a tad boring show. The Social Network didn’t win too much. I only remember one award going to them…sniff!….I’m so happy Colin Firth won best actor. Too bad a Pom won best supporting actor…derrr!

Hooray!….Today is the last day of rotten February!….yeep! ….Onward and upward!

Rio: I just saw the end part of the show, when the best actress, actor and picture awards were given. I don’t know how Anne Hathaway did with the rest of the show, but I thought she was pretty quick on her feet when she flubbed an introduction. And I liked how they ended with the children’s choir singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and the winners joining them on stage. Since I haven’t seen any of the movies that were nominated — except Toy Story 3, Mom brought that home on DVD from the library! Good movie! — I wasn’t too interested in the rest of the show. Mom has wanted to see “The King’s Speech” ever since it came out, so maybe she’ll finally get around to seeing it now.

Rio: Oops! Yes, it’s working. I just forget to check it because I don’t get a lot of messages on it. But I just checked it and saw I had a message. I’ll have to reply tonight because Mom has to leave and get her oil changed before work — I mean her car’s oil; she’s not an oily person! Meanwhile, I’ll check out some of the information you gave me so I can report back in a more informed fashion!

They are looking for NYC hipster extras right now Chet. Perhaps you could let Spence and Admin know?

From some of the entertainment sites, this Oscars are being called the Worst Ever.
Didn’t like the hosts, and thought that maybe they spent $5,000 on the set.

Haven’t seen any pictures or video yet.

On it Siber-H and speaking of healing, how’s your mom?

This came up that items that are made with wind power would have this next emblem on them.

Cool, though I hate to see what emblem they would use for those items made with power from composting . . .

To (kinda) quote the Great Bard Shakespeare:
“The first thing we do, lets kill all the weathermen!”

    To quote another great wordster:
    ” Ice, Ice, Baby!”

We have invented a great new sport – it’s called Corgi Coasting, and its accomplished by putting Corgis outside, on a hill that is covered in ice. Its a riot! At least with their short little legs, they don’t fall down – they just put their little butts down and skid til they get to the bottom of the hill.
    Siber would love it!

Melanieeeeeeeee – Basil and Sage are pickin on us! They laughed at us when we went outside for personal reasons, and skidded down the hill on our butts.

Can Patsy and Franklin and Mac come and rescue us?

Kirby: I didn’t get involved in the Oscar frenzy. I like reading about it the next day. I’m glad Colin Firth won. I’ve liked him ever since I saw him in A Month in the Country with Kenneth Branagh and Melinda Richards. (He was great as Darcy and had some interesting interpretations that he explained in an interview especially about the marriage proposal scene.)

SH: I’m glad your mom is feeling better.

All my best thoughts to Wookie.

I don’t think we watched it. The humans here are getting too old to stay awake for the big awards at the end, but Alpha Mom does go to every single movie, while Blog Mom and Daddy go to none. I guess that balances out. Anyway, Alpha Mom picked The King’s Speech for Best in Show…er….Best Picture. I wonder if that makes her hip and cool. I tend to doubt it.

So I looked at the “Best Dressed” and the “Worst Dressed” women at the Oscars. I, obviously, don’t agree with fashion.

Greetings everyone. Thanks for all the well-wishes again. Had my third chemo treatment today and the oncologist thought my lymph nodes had shrunk back to more-or-less normal size and my blood work was improving, although my red cell count is still somewhat lower than it should be, leaving me a little anemic, but it is movinging in the right direction now. I’m resting at home comfortably now (its raining here, so not much to do anyway). We did have some thunder last night, and I know how upset it makes my mom, so I graciously went downstairs with her last night to keep her company after the thunder (or maybe it was the other way around — not sure).

Re Natasha Richardson, her death following a skiing accident was really tragic. She was really great in the remake of The Parent Trap (opposite Dennis Quaid), one of the few movies where the remake was as good as the original. It was also the start of Lindsay Lohan’s career (she played both twins), such a promising start but clearly downhill more recently.

Why does everyone think that Charlie Sheen is doing drugs? He cured himself in a nano second with his magic fingertips. Just ask him!

Can you believe that that this obnoxious jerk was being paid $2,000,000 a week? I can think of many charities (esp dog rescues) that would benefit immensely from that kind of money.

Natasha Richardson, skiing with no helmet. My Mom and Sam’s Mom and girl have skied that same hill for many years. It’s at the very bottom of the mountain and quite flat. So sad because it was such a freak accident. Unfortunately, Mom sees a lot of simple falls that could have been helped by someone wearing a helmet.

Mom can’t make anyone wear a helmet but she can sure can make the suggestion. Particularly when she sees someone skiing in the woods without one. Think Sonny Bono and Michael Kennedy.

I can’t believe we are even wasting more time commenting on Charlie Sheen, but he is just such good gossip fodder that we can’t resist! Yes, he blinked and he was cured. Furthermore, AA only has a 5% cure rate because they are fools and trolls, but Charlie has a 100% cure rate as of his blink. He also is underpaid at 2 mil per show, so he is going to hold out for 3 mil. All sounds very plausible to us.

We have chickadees here, and they are Lily’s favorite. She loves to say Black Capped Chickadees.

That was very sad about Natasha Richardson, who died of a brain bleed in 2009. A year ago Barb tripped at the office, flew across the room, and hit her head on a sharp corner of the desk. Everyone at the office said “You ARE going to the E.R., remember Natasha RIchardson?”

Bee, We don’t watch 2 1/2 Men either, but it is in its 8th season and CS is probably the highest paid t.v personality on the air. The show, in our opinion, is mindless garbage, a total time waster. It however, is very popular. When Charlie started spouting off last week, and making anti-semitic comments about the show’s producer, they did cancel the rest of this season. That was sort of the start of this whole debacle.

On a more positive note, Denise Richards, his first wife (I think), with whom he has 2 daughters, is a big animal rescue person. She has been on Dog Whisperer, and she is a spokesperson for dog rescue. She was on tv last week promoting Pup my Ride, which goes all over the U.S. driving dogs to no kill shelters, foster homes and forever homes. She seems pretty normal.

I have never been able to sit through a single episode of 2.5 Men. Mindless dribble, in my opinion.

Bee….you may be right. The inside joke(s) I saw were visual, not a play on words.

I wonder if PA will ever fill us in? I am so curious I can’t stand it! I bet Rio will figure it out in no time flat!

I just read a story about Larry, the resident cat at 10 Downing Street. Seems like there is a big muck up about him “sleeping on the job” and not being much of a mouser. We should send Magpie over. She would get the job done in no time flat!

Wolfie, I would be happy to help out with a rat problem, any time, any place.

We are on the same page, because we just wrote “mindless dribble” up above, then couldn’t recall if it should be dribble or drivel, so we changed it to mindless garbage. Funny, don’t you think.

Oh my dog…I am sooooo embarrased.
This morning, Mama put us outside and there was lots of ice and we slid down the hill. That was okay though, cuz Mama came to the downstairs door and let us in.
But then Gilly insisted on going back upstairs, and then she wanted to go out again.
And she skidded down the hill on her little Corgi bum again.
So, she came and barked at the back door, and Daddy let her in.
Then she went upstairs and asked to go out again.
Mama let her out, and she slip slided down the hill again, adding a full 360 in the process.
And she came to the back door – came in – run upstairs – went out – slid down – came in – ran upstairs, etc. She did that for about 6 trips while Mama and Daddy laughed.
I on the other hand was mortified! We are CORGIS! We are ROYALTY! AND, our cousins were in a movie that won a whole bunch of awards last night. And Gilly is acting like a …a….a COMMONER!
    Oh the shame….
This is even worse than last summer when she insisted on trying to herd a snake in the back yard.

Mollie!… The Closer is excellent! Unfortunately, I don’t think it is On Demand, so we usually miss it…grump!… The whole disliking Memphis thing really has to do with her being forced to be there for work in JULY and hating the whole freakin’ town and state at the same time…snort!…The music is grating to her, so I know she will never look for that show…snuff!…I am at her mercy on this one…sniff!

Mollie, Barry Corbin is the actor who plays the father, and he was on Northern Exposure, however, he usually did not watch it.

Parenthood looks like it will be really good tomorrow. They are going to deal in more detail with Asbergers. When we first started watch the show, some of the characters seemed so intense that they bothered us, but now we are used to them.

We are going to bed. Night all.

Fans!….We here are big fans of the late great show called, The Gilmore Girls….snort!….Lauren Graham has been a faveorite of ours ever since. She is why we started watching Parenthood right from the beginning and it only has gotten better and better! We’ve probably seen the Gilmore Girls episodes at least 6+ times each…truly!…The young blond lawyer on The Good Wife, who switched sides, can’t think of his name right now, had his big start on Gilmore Girls…heh!

  113. Barb & Maggie

There are a lot of characters, I suppose, as it is 2 parents and their 4 offspring and their families. But after watching it for a while and seeing all the samre characters each week, you become very familiar with them. The acting is good, and the show has some well know actors on. Rio, did you know Lauren Grahan dates the guy who plays her brother on the show? Not Dax Shephered, but the other one.

Now we really are going to bed.

Hey y’all! Dad had duty tonight, and when he got home he turned on the radio, and Dan Patrick was interviewing John Smoltz — former pitcher, primarily with the Atlanta Braves — and Dan was asking him about baseball movies. Then he asked him about his least favorite baseball movie. Guess what? “The Fan.” He said it had some unbelievable scenes, especially the rain scene — something about standing water. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen the movie — would anyone who’s seen it more recently care to elucidate?

Oooh — one more thing. My boy bought a new computer screen during an online auction and it looks like the marauding goats let it through, but they must have headbutted it first because it doesn’t work. Of course, they got a little help from the guy who sold it to him, since the box wasn’t long enough and he compensated by leaving the flaps out and putting a piece of cardboard at the end. Luckily my boy complained to the auction site and they’ve deemed the other guy at fault and he has to return my boy’s money. I guess it’s a good thing they don’t know about the marauding goats!!!

P.S. Has anyone here looked up the word “maraud”? It didn’t look right when I typed it, so I looked it up. My dictionary defines it as “to raid and plunder“! Is there a connection between the marauding goats and the plunderers??? Pondering here!!!
