Good morning, everyone! Another interesting book store 🙂 How does TM find these?
Have a wild and wooly Wednesday, all!
8:22 am on September 10th, 2014
Good morning HOH and everyone. Still rainy here but the violent winds did not happen, so we feel lucky.
Couldn’t sleep so got up and processed some green beans and tomatoes for the freezer, did a load of wash and stained some wood trim for the redone bathroom. Definitely will need a nap today!
8:29 am on September 10th, 2014
Tell Barb that she has been a busy beaver! We had breakfast so don’t care what else happens, unless treats are involved.
9:19 am on September 10th, 2014
On the home front, things are going well. The kids are still sober, and Cody leaves for a therapeudic rehab tomorrow. It only took five months to navigate the insurance maze. Yeep! Jace’s development is now normal, and we should have him back next month.
Once we get Chad into rehab, then mom can breathe easy!

The name Wellesley is familiar for some reason (other than the Duke of Wellington).
Good morning all.
9:23 am on September 10th, 2014
Wolfie, y’all are in our pawrayers and we have our tails crossed 🙂
9:23 am on September 10th, 2014
Greetings!
Just stopping by because I just read AJ’s post to Rebecca. sniff , sob, sniff
9:54 am on September 10th, 2014
I read it to, Wose. Very sweet! (Whispering – I think mom is in love with Harris.)
9:56 am on September 10th, 2014
*too
Where is that edit button when we need it? I wonder if Mr. Baker has any idea the difficulty of typing on a ipaw with big furry paws?
10:01 am on September 10th, 2014
Good morning Wose, Wolfie, HOH, B and M, and B. Stover–Took a walk in the dark this a.m. to prepare for my LONG day and saw a bunny! This is the first one on the local HS campus since school started, so I take it as a good sign. Still no rain here but a lot of moisture ion the air which make the hot days difficult.
Wolfie–This sounds like good news all around, so prayers and paws crossed for you all from CA.
B and M–Just yikes! (And well done)
Wose–Be well and have a wonderful day.
HOH–Sounds like y’all are already having a good one. Take care of your Mom like the good good dogs you are.
Have a great day everyone.
10:05 am on September 10th, 2014
BSD–Just read your post from yesterday about the shelter for older dogs in need. My own shelter does some of this, but it’s always good to know about others. Can you provide more information? Thanks.
10:12 am on September 10th, 2014
Wose, Hope you are feeling chipper today. And Wolfie, good to hear from you. Paws and fingers crossed for continued sobriety.
10:25 am on September 10th, 2014

Good morning Zoe and Mattie.
10:57 am on September 10th, 2014
Rebecca!…I can totally vouch for the fact that Rebecca works her butt off at the kennel!…snort!…No facebookie time for her because she is constantly feeding, cleaning, taking someone to the V-E-T-S and petting her Giant…snorkel!
11:02 am on September 10th, 2014
It is nice to be appreciated, isn’t it?
Rain, rain and more rain here.
11:22 am on September 10th, 2014
So much grey here recently it feels like the Pacific Northwest 🙂
11:44 am on September 10th, 2014
That Damn Pixie is sniffing and melting at the Giant’s post last night. That is all well and good, but where is the gratitude for my work? I appointed myself to be the Sparkler in Charge, but there is no thank you for me. And let’s not forget the Theive’s efforts in keeping tha Damn Pixie extra busy. Where is their thank you, I ask youse?
11:58 am on September 10th, 2014
Wolfie, I am glad to hear positive news at your home. Good thoughts coming
your ways always.
Zoe, Love the picture of Mattie guarding the hearth!
12:03 pm on September 10th, 2014
Belle Starr, I appreciate all the sparkly things that you do, and the Thieves too!
I under appreciated here too. We should run away. That will fix everybody.
Let’s run away together. I have my long tree branch, and my red bandana at the ready.
12:19 pm on September 10th, 2014

12:23 pm on September 10th, 2014
RIO! We could all run away together!
12:38 pm on September 10th, 2014
We just read the Giant’s post to his lovely SnowBella.
What a guy! What a gal!
12:49 pm on September 10th, 2014
Awwww AJ. Great post sir, You are right about your wife. We all know how important she is. To you, and to us.
Didn’t one of Peter’s kids go to Wellesley?
I can’t run away. Staff says may not leave the house. The house has been horrible lately. This guy keeps coming in and bringing stuff in and then banging around and making noises like thunder. And Staff is happy about it. GAH.
AbbietheKitty is MIA and even I am hiding out. Where is the ASPCK* when you need them????

Got up early (for me). Moved furniture to the other side of the quilt room (The side with the finished cabinets. Made french toast for breakfast with BACON. Yum. Used the maple syrup we bought in Massachusetts this spring with Golinka and the Storyteller, Dawson, Barb, Sharon and Judy! A taste of spring. 🙂
Then moved some more furniture and did some laundry and now we (mr.Staff and I ) are going out to pick apples.
Whoo HOooo
oh, I read the blog too.
And there are still hummers at the feeders this A.M. Thank Dog.
1:00 pm on September 10th, 2014

I just checked my mail, and found a postcard from Rio, Masquers, and C.Hobbit, direct from Alaska. Thanks, youse guys! I love Beavis. What a great name!
1:06 pm on September 10th, 2014
Spence: What are the fines for wrong answers? Just curious.
Rebecca: Like AJ, we appreciate your hard work and loving with the Snowhook doggies. AJ’s too, goes without saying.
Zoe: Mattie’s doing a great job holding the floor down!
Barb&Maggie: Gee, when I can’t sleep I read a few pages or check the blog. I do not stain the trim.
Have a wishful Wednesday. My wish is that my yard was as neat as BooBear’s. I will try to channel some of B&M’s energy to make it so.
1:07 pm on September 10th, 2014
Wose, you are never under appreciated on this here blog.
1:16 pm on September 10th, 2014
BSD: Old Dog Haven has liquid coming out of mom’s eyes and she asked if we would mind more sisters. She would adopt every unwanted dog in the world. We told her to slow down and take things one dog at a time, after 3/4 of the HOH are “rescues”.
1:16 pm on September 10th, 2014
Wose and Wio: I have the perfect hidey-hole. It is Rio’s little cabin in the woods. All runaways on three…!
1:24 pm on September 10th, 2014
We love and appreciate all our friends on this here blog.
1:25 pm on September 10th, 2014
Riö & Rose! Wait for moi!
1:26 pm on September 10th, 2014
Oh gosh! Our goldfinch have nested and fledged. Two youngsters were just at the feeder on the front porch looking very olive drab 🙂 Ya gotta love summer! In other breaking news, Mrs. Hummer is still guarding the 2 feeders in the front yard, while the backyard feeder is up for grabs 🙂
1:42 pm on September 10th, 2014
Grab, you little winged guy, grab…Migration isn’t far away!
1:48 pm on September 10th, 2014
I just received a lovely postcard from Alaska from Rio, Masquers and C.Hobbit. Thank you! Beavis has frost on his face and whiskers but he looks very comfortable. (I love the stamp–a blue bird.)

2:33 pm on September 10th, 2014
Uh oh – wonder if Natasha’s Porsche is missing too?
2:37 pm on September 10th, 2014
For those who asked, Mom keeps 5 feeders up during the summer months. She just added 3 more (demoted some hanging plants to the ground) since they drained the 5 in less than a day.
2:38 pm on September 10th, 2014
Oh, goodness, Mr. Goldfinch just stopped by for a nosh. He is so handsome…like a canary in a tux 🙂
2:40 pm on September 10th, 2014
BooBear, tell your 2 legger that when our mom lived in so Cal, she had to fill her 4 feeders every day! Wowser, more work than kiddos 🙂
2:46 pm on September 10th, 2014
I love goldfinches. “Canary in a tux” is a great description!
2:59 pm on September 10th, 2014
TY your royal highness!
2:59 pm on September 10th, 2014
And now mom has the giggles 🙂
3:06 pm on September 10th, 2014
Oh oh! Giggles are catchy….
3:07 pm on September 10th, 2014
Mom is wondering if she makes a vest for Pookey that says “Handicapped dog in training”, could she take her 3 legger anywhere? Think about it! 🙂 (We know our mom is a sick puppy.)
3:10 pm on September 10th, 2014
Envision the vest on this:

Fun, huh?

3:36 pm on September 10th, 2014
giggling…yes, that one. The first one is just the picture of the guy with a drum of hatch chilis.
3:44 pm on September 10th, 2014
Bwack! Hi Fern! (giggling)
I just remembered! Yesterday when I was puttering around the garden to see what effects the slight frost had, and to hoe a little, I noticed 3 long chile peppers that I swear were not there the day before (they must’ve been – they do not grow that long overnight), and made note to pick them before I went in because it was going to get to 5 below freezing (it did). I forgot! Must go out and see if they survived. I can see the squash that was growing out of the compost pile is history. Hope the ones under the blankets made it. I’m going gardening, giggling.
3:52 pm on September 10th, 2014
Giggly Awesome one, we have a bell pepper masquerading as a chili !

Know it is a bell as we have gotten others off it this summer 🙂
4:04 pm on September 10th, 2014
Belle Starr: I am on my way, and will pick Rio and Masquers on the way.
4:28 pm on September 10th, 2014
BSD–thank you for the link.
HOH–I think the vest would look lovely.
Wose, Wio, Belle Starr–You’d keep in touch if you ran away, right? (I feel the need of some sparkle right now. A.M. class flew by, but the late afternoon one is going to be looooong…)
4:39 pm on September 10th, 2014
Handicapped dog in training. Snicker. Oops. Possibly not PC. Snicker.
4:52 pm on September 10th, 2014
I LOVE wheel dogs! Thank you, Masquers, Rio, and c.hobbit! That nose is smoochable.
So much on the blog today. I have been thinking of rejoinders along the way, but the time got away from me.
Happy to hear from Zoe and Mattie and Wolfie, and everyone else.
A short runaway time sounds good to me.
No kill shelters. Our city and area do not have them. There is one 50 miles to the east and 30 miles to the south, and we try to support them as much as we can. There is one 150 miles to the north that we love, love, love. My blind aunt who lives in that city adopted a cat a few years ago from there. The shelter is run by some of my dearest friends. Once a month, one of the Board members would go to my aunt’s house to clip the cat’s nails. When the cat had v-e-t appointments, one of the Board would transport her and my aunt. I bake for their bake sales, make bandanas for their dog walks, and support them as much as I can. I could go on and on about their kindness, but I won’t.
In my town, however, there is a shelter called Bob’s House for Dogs. It is run by a family plus volunteers. These folks work with the county shelter and take stressed, old, and infirm dogs to live at Bob’s House. No one is euthanized. Rate of adoption is high.
Whew.
5:18 pm on September 10th, 2014
B’sB (sobbing here) thank you for that news.
5:35 pm on September 10th, 2014
Our county shelter is 🙁 But there are a couple of no kills. One is called “Wally’s Friend”. Cannot remember the one north of us but this foto has the magnet they sell to raise funds. Reminds us of OFA/TM.

Oops, did a double Dawson :/ Well, y’all get the message 🙂
5:41 pm on September 10th, 2014
Survey!…snort!…This might be a good time to take an Online Survey…heh!heh!…Which of the following would you rather have during Thanksgiving Holiday to raise money for Snowhook Kennel?…grunt!
1. A Gobble-A-Lot Holiday Auction
2. A Happy Gibblets Thanksgiving Merchantile Store
3. Both
5:45 pm on September 10th, 2014
Rio: Well, both would allow for donations of items that would go to the highest bidder AND donations of items with a set price, such as tubs of pretzels.
5:47 pm on September 10th, 2014
Linda!…We could just open a Tub O’ Pretzels store…heh!heh!
5:58 pm on September 10th, 2014
Rio — That is a thought. Another career for moi.
6:13 pm on September 10th, 2014
Rio, we have things that could go into either, so our answer is…………….BOTH (maybe, kinda, sorta, if possible?)
6:19 pm on September 10th, 2014
Sniff. No postcard for us.
BooBear, we got a suspicious-looking email from you. Was your email hacked? Or is it legit?
6:21 pm on September 10th, 2014
I think we should have both. Items that are one-of-a-kind should be in the auction and items in multiples, like pretzels, should go into the Mercantile.
I received a postcard from Alaska, thank you all, and now I want to be back there.
6:27 pm on September 10th, 2014
We vote BOTH.
Has anyone every used ground chicken ( I know, sorry Fern and the girls with bumble foot)? When at Fresh Market to get some half price chicken breast yesterday, I noticed that they had ground chicken white meat on sale as well. The counter man said to use it like ground beef – in tacos, meat balls, etc. So bought some and tonight am making a meatloaf with 1/2 ground beef, 1/2 ground chicken.
Diane, are you a Vegan or Vegetarian? Always wanted to be, but have just gone as far as trying to buy humanely raised/antibiotic free.
Has anyone seen the articles lately about meat animals being raised in the USA, then shipped to China to be butchered, then sent back here for sale? First of all, the stress on the poor animals, then secondly the health inspection practices are much lower in China. Evidently, the companies selling these products only have to say “raised in the US” on the labels.
6:36 pm on September 10th, 2014
B&M, Our mom doesn’t eat mammal so that means only poultry or some kind of fish (which she doesn’t like) gets cooked in her house. Interesting, eh?
6:37 pm on September 10th, 2014
Mom is mostly vegetarian, check “the Moosewood Cookbooks”.
6:44 pm on September 10th, 2014
Barb, first of all the animals that are sent to China have been butchered here. Not that any of that is a good thing but at least the animals are not being sent over. You never know what’s going to happen in China.
Bought frozen Alaskan cod from Wegmans a few months ago. Since I have to be gluten-free it seemed like a good choice. Only fish. So I cooked the fish, took two bites and immediately threw up. I looked back on the package into the small print where it first said ingredients: wild caught Alaskan cod but then it said processed in China. I don’t know what they did in their processing but it had to do with gluten. Scary, huh.
6:45 pm on September 10th, 2014
Sorry I meant to say the animals are killed here before they are sent to China to be butchered.
6:46 pm on September 10th, 2014
This article said also to stay away from fish from China and Vietnam, due to unsanitary raising conditions. Evidently the tilapia are fed mostly chicken manure.
6:50 pm on September 10th, 2014
B&M, I always use ground chicken in chili. Billy’s other buddy has multiple stents placed in various parts of his body (TMI, I know)so I substitute anything I can instead of using red meat. I started with a “white chili” which specifically requires chicken in the recipe, but now use it in all chili and we can’t taste a difference.
6:53 pm on September 10th, 2014
OK, well that makes me feel better that at least the animal is not going thru days of stress while being shipped. That does make more sense, but I still will not buy those products.
We have ordered beef and pork from a local farmer, who take their animals to a local processing place. So they are taken in and killed right away. Still not pleasant, but at least a better alternative.
MPM, I don’t have the gluten worries that you have. My issues are more to do with humane treatment, avoiding large factory animal confinment, and sanitation.
6:54 pm on September 10th, 2014
Quick – turn on the NBC Nightly News.
6:59 pm on September 10th, 2014
Billy’s Buddy, wowser, y’all cook like us with the DDD having had a quadruple by-pass. Still can’t keep that man o’ mine away from reindeer sausage in AK. Go with ground chicken or turkey when possible.
7:00 pm on September 10th, 2014
Amalia, Are you talking about the under water photos?
7:03 pm on September 10th, 2014
Yup – we saw the teaser, and wanted to let everyone know. Some if those pictures are priceless. But I noticed there weren’t any Sibers. Hmmmm
7:04 pm on September 10th, 2014
Amalia, please explain since when I checked the network was on to the next show 🙁
7:09 pm on September 10th, 2014
But Barb, my gluten issues in the case of the Alaskan wild caught cod is proof that something else happened in the processing in China.
7:11 pm on September 10th, 2014
Hey, this kinda looks like a book cover to us!

7:22 pm on September 10th, 2014
HOH – there is a photographer who specializes in taking underwater photos of dogs diving to retrieve toys. The dogs are willing participants, and some of the split second shots are a riot. Dogs dive with their eyes, and usually their mouths wide open – the expressions are priceless.
You can do a search for “underwater dog photos” or check this link:

Bernie and Chet. Er, I mean, Friend and Rio.
7:24 pm on September 10th, 2014
MPM. So I guess you have to be super careful. What is the answer? Buy only meat that is processed here? BTW, I am not anti Asian, and in no way mean my remarks to be racist.
7:31 pm on September 10th, 2014
Don’t know how to share this, but ifn y’all can go to “You Tube” and look at: “I don’t look good naked anymore”. It is a hoot 🙂

HOH – pretty easy to create a link to a youtube video. While the video is on your screen, move your cursor up to the address line at the top. Right click on the line, and select “copy”. Then go back to the blog, and in the comment box, right click and select “paste”. Either that or you can put the cursor in the comment box, and hit “control V”, and that will paste the link in the comment box.
7:49 pm on September 10th, 2014
HOH: That is one of our all-time favorite photos of Riö & friend.
a true classic.
All this talk of tainted food coming back to us via China is big-time scary. What in Kat’s name are they doing to our beloved salmon, not to mention other foods, and the bigger question is WHY?
Auction or mercantile? we say both!
7:58 pm on September 10th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama: Thanks for the info on those Cool Water Dogs.
HOunds: Please do not feel like a Dummkopf. There are many Techie
Tricks this Hound has yet to learn (of course, as we all know, having a reliable service provider is helpful)
O’Howlers: I have it on Good Authority that a Postal Card is winging your way, and wouldn’t be surprised if it will soon be in your paws.
8:04 pm on September 10th, 2014
Hey Gang – HOH has an ipad…we don’t. She is having all kinds of difficulties with it. She needs a tutorial.
She tells me there is no address bar, and since I don’t have an ipad, I can’t tell her what to click on.
8:06 pm on September 10th, 2014
The answer to that question is $$$. Always.
We LOVED the video. What a hoot!
8:14 pm on September 10th, 2014
B’s Buddy: Loved Hearing about other Humane Shelters near you. We only wish they all were that way.
MollyPop’s Mom: We can only Imagine what it is like having to carefully read every package before preparation. And, of course, with Eating Out the danger is intensified.
BooBear: We have the same question as the O’Howlers…did you send an email our way today?
8:39 pm on September 10th, 2014
Bear, I do well until eating out. For example the dinner I had last week with Tyb and his dad got me glutened. I ordered a gluten-free pizza with olive oil tomatoes and olives. Should not have been a problem. I should have known better because I eat defensively and in this case I didn’t. I didn’t think about what was going to happen to the tomatoes when they were being sliced to go on the pizza.
8:41 pm on September 10th, 2014
My last Pug kiss was from cousin Maya. Pucker up Rio.
8:42 pm on September 10th, 2014
HOH: On the bottom of the iPad is a button you need to click. You should then get a screen that includes Safari. (If you don’t then run your finger across the middle to the left or right to change screens.) Press the Safari button and it takes you to the internet. Tap on the address bar and you’ll get a keypad on the screen. Use that to type in the internet address that you want, hit the “go” button and that should take you to the address.
8:46 pm on September 10th, 2014
BSD, We will take you at your word.
HOH, if you are using the uTube app, just click “share”, then select the little icon at the top right that kind of looks like a >. Then select “copy link”.
8:53 pm on September 10th, 2014
Mr.Staff played me a youtube video of his new favorite band, the Spinney Brothers, playing that song just last week.
DDD, How come you have C.Hobbits picture as your avatar???? Should we tell Sharon?
9:13 pm on September 10th, 2014
Staff: ha, ha. I hadn’t thought of that. I got home and had received a SDD from Sharon asking me to post the video from DDD. Oh well, I can’t think of everything–I am not sure if I know how to turn off my avatar.
9:14 pm on September 10th, 2014
Staff, wish you would (told him to ask Hobbit as I’m an idiot),
Hobbit, think the best way to resolve my ipaw issues is to go apple store in the a.m. since “bottom of screen” and “click” have no meaning 🙂 It is all TOUCH! GAH! We feel stoopid!
9:15 pm on September 10th, 2014
DDD!….He is up to some trouble me thinks…grunt!
9:16 pm on September 10th, 2014
Votes!…So far I have 2+2 votes for Both…grunt!…I hope you Both voters know this means twice the amount of Items that need to be donated…WOOOOOoooOOOOO!…heh!
9:20 pm on September 10th, 2014
Ready to donate…BUT am going to Apple store in the a.m. to find our what things like “button on bottom of screen” and “click” mean, oh wait, also…”address line”…. OKAY so I’m stupid.
9:22 pm on September 10th, 2014
Rio – you know you can always count us in for both.
Let’s see….how many Bears would that be?
9:23 pm on September 10th, 2014
BUT,,,,Rio, bet your bippy we will have things for both auction AND boutique 🙂
9:23 pm on September 10th, 2014
MPM, It seems like your problem is far worse than just gluten intolerance. Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease?
9:24 pm on September 10th, 2014
Rio, I vote for two also. Some of us will be moving around thanksgiving time and appreciate a nice long lead time.
;-D
9:25 pm on September 10th, 2014
HOH, After you get used to the touch screen you will love it. I know I liked Dawson’s IPad Air immediately. But there is a little learning curve. Lots of time at Mollypop’s Mom was spent asking her questions about the Ipad. She is a pro.
And we are very sorry to hear about the glutening episodes. Hope you are feeling better now.
