Good luck tonight Spence. Do they grow a lot of tomatoes in Arizona? Hope no one throws any – especially the heirloom kind- at you.
We put C.Harris’s sticker about tomatoes over our presidential sticker in the center of the rear bumper. “Gardening is cheaper than therapy – and you get tomatoes” is not as controversial as a presidential candidate. We used to get yelled at, some pros and some cons. Now we just get positive comments.
Quick walks for the two of us and then Barb is off to work.
BTW, the Basset rescue people sent us a sample of a product called “Pawz”. They look sort of like a heavy balloon and slip over the paw. They can be used a few times and would work for a paw injury too. They are thin enough that Lucy still walks normally, as she can feel through it. Petco sells them for about $10.00 for a pack, which will last for a long time.

Good morning Barb and Maggie and everyone. It’s still dark here, so I’m going back to bed. Later…
8:01 am on August 5th, 2014
Wait! A drone scene? Does Chet leap and pull it down? Can’t wait.

Greetings!
Not much to report except that PAW and ORDER is on my nook! YAY!
A very hot day here in Weschester, only cool places for WozenGrizz today.
Saw ” BOYHOOD”, yesterday. Two thumbs up! : )
9:30 am on August 5th, 2014
Paw and Order is on the Kindle app on my iPad. Yea!
9:52 am on August 5th, 2014
Paw and Order is on my Kindle! Have a good signing/reading Spence.
Good morning all.
9:58 am on August 5th, 2014
Bah!…I have to wait till next Tuesday to get my copy of Paw…sniff!…Someone is determined to buy the book from the Tattered Cover where Spencer may or may not be at the time…wuffle!…So I wait.
10:51 am on August 5th, 2014
Oh Rio, I know how you feel. I had the book signed when Spence was at 8 cousins, but I don’t know if they mailed it then or if they will mail it today. Sob. I just know people will be reading it and reporting how exciting it is. Grump.
But You you you get to go see him. You ARE going with your friend aren’t you????
11:08 am on August 5th, 2014
Staffie!…What do you mean, am I going with my friend??…snort!…It is pretty much a given, right? I just know she will take me with her to that fancy-schmancy hotel she has booked…wheeze!…I can already taste room service!…slobber!choke!
11:42 am on August 5th, 2014
Rio – do you suppose they have hot wings on the room service menu?
12:13 pm on August 5th, 2014
I am waiting at the front door for Paw and Order to be delivered. Mom says it will arrive later in the day…sigh If Amazon had their drone delivery service up and running, I might get it sooner.
If anyone throws tomatoes at Spence at least he will know what kind they are. He reads the blog.
Rio, I had to wait last year for the book just as you are waiting this year. Mom thought it was only right to buy it from the bookstore that was hosting Spence.
12:35 pm on August 5th, 2014
Wear!…I wonder if I should wear my bow-tie?…snort!
12:47 pm on August 5th, 2014
Rio, I think you would look lovely in your bow-tie. And by lovely I mean educated and erudite!
So is Beau going also?
12:53 pm on August 5th, 2014
And where are our copies of PAW AND ORDER???
1:02 pm on August 5th, 2014
A picture from Mr.Staff of his pet squirrel. It is not named Rocky as far as I can tell. There are 3 young and Ma and Pa regularly on our decks.

A Plunderer Poll on this auspicious day…….When you out there, fans of Chet each and every one, first read Dog On It…what was it that caught your eye and precipitated the need to never miss another Chet and Bernie story ever?
For me it was this. I had read several books aboout dogs and their people. The last one before Chet was Merle’s Door by Ted Kerasote. Main reason I read that was because Merle and Ted lived in Kelly, WY adjacent to Teton National Park and I knew the area. Well, it took me through the night to finish that book and by dawn’s early light I was crying. Dog books seem to end in that most natural of ways. But I swore….NEVER another dog book! Too hard.
Then a month or so later I walked into Barnes & Noble and saw a display right up front for Dog On It, and lo and behold it said First in a Series! Wow, that would mean the dog would not die! Maybe I should read this. Naturally, I was hooked. How did it work for you folks?
1:24 pm on August 5th, 2014
I have read everything over many times that you wrote on the 26th of August. You know my Melanie so very well. Thank you so much.
I am not in a good place right now, maybe it is just being so tired. I have not forgotten all you have done. I’ll be back later when everything doesn’t make me cry. Much love. Zoe
1:28 pm on August 5th, 2014
26th of July, Not August. Well, that made me laugh. Maybe there is hope. Zoe
1:33 pm on August 5th, 2014
Love you back, Zoe 🙂 Take care. TTFN
Hi, ALR and all.
We also bought Dog on It from the B&N display and blurb on the back cover. Especially loved the humor in the book, curious about the author, and checked out chetthedog.com, The blog with funny, intelligent people kept us going until the next book and got us hooked.
T&G’s mama – will you be in Springfield, MA for the big s-h-e-w?
Friends wanted in but didn’t make it this year.
1:34 pm on August 5th, 2014
ALR, Mom’s story is very similar to yours. She saw the same display in B&N. The book had a dog on the cover, a dirt road, a cool car, and when she read a couple of random pages of it, learned that the setting was the American Southwest, and that Chet was one smart, funny, loveable, dog. The book sold itself to her immediately and she never reads mysteries, except for Tony Hillerman.
We are not reading any more books where the dogs die at the end even if they die of old age like in “Marley and Me”.
“Merle’s Door” is setting unread on the bookshelf just like the DVD “Eight Below” is setting unwatched in our DVD collection.
1:40 pm on August 5th, 2014
Zoe, You and your family and the Newfs are always in our thoughts and prayers. We love you. Take care of yourself and rest.
1:43 pm on August 5th, 2014
Zoe!…Awwwww shucks, now you are going to make me sniffle and snort…sneeze!
2:14 pm on August 5th, 2014
Zoe: Read Paw and Order and you’ll laugh some more.
I bought DOI from the Barnes & Noble display. I was hooked when I got to the scene with the “talking” bird and Chet’s disdain: “Bernie and Cynthia were watching the bird. I watched Bernie. Sometimes he worried me. If we were relying on eyewitness testimony from Cap’n Crunch, the case was hopeless.”
2:29 pm on August 5th, 2014
Hi BlueKat – no, not Springfield. That is a GIGANTIC shew that goes for more than two weeks. Since fairs like that require you to be open all hours that the fair is open, it would mean weeks of 13 hours days without a break. Too much for just the two of us. The Corgis would help, but they can’t make change. Or reach the counter.
We are doing the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck NY. It is 7 days of 13 hours and by the end of that run, we are toast. But it is fun
And the next thing we do after that is go to our place at the beach for the Storyteller’s Lobster Fest.
ALR – we came to Chet and Bernie late. Our Beat Friend talked about the books and the blog, but we didn’t get coordinated on getting together for a book swap for a whole. My Friend knew what a sap I am about sad animal stories, so she warned me about the dog pound scene in DOI. I never read it. To this day. As a matter of fact, I skip the Chet in Peril scene in each book. (We did confess that to OFA this past July. He thought it was funny)
Anyway, we do read mysteries here, and especially like finding a series to follow. So once we read the first two, we were hooked.
Siber – we join you in sitting at the front door waiting, just waiting. The Fed Ex ground tracking says our package is “out for delivery”.
Waiting, waiting, waiting……
2:37 pm on August 5th, 2014
UPS is delivering my book.. It is on the truck which is probably still roaming around Albuquerque.
At least I can nap while waiting for the book. You guys have seen that picture of me at the front door. That is what I am doing now.
2:46 pm on August 5th, 2014
What an excellent Chapter one! Now, I will be patient until Nana and Masquers meet Spencer on the 10th and get my Paw and Order signed and paw-printed and then it navigates the postal systems of 2 countries and finally into my eager paws. I will be patient that whole time…maybe.
Zoe: Aha! See? There is a glimmer of hope that will grow, oh so slowly into more laughter, even if you are laughing at yourself at first. You are not alone in this journey. We are right here with you, crying and trying to laugh. Chet the dog will help show us the way.
Which reminds me, biking on the seaside trail I came across a cheeto in the middle of the trail. I know what Chet would do!
FOC Sarge: There is a dog that keeps sneaking away from his yard and has been seen on 3 occasions, dragging his leash down to the beach, shortly thereafter followed by a woman and a boy rather frantically calling his name. Looks just like you.
I was in the Comox Nautical Day Parade yesterday, after helping to decorate the Special Olympics Athletes float. I was in charge of blowing bubbles, heh! The athletes were in charge of squirting water (gently) at people in the crowd and at the Zumba dancers in front of us. Fun!
Then I watched the build, bail and sail competition. Teams of 2 could spend up to $85. for materials in the morning, then build a boat by 1 pm and row against 2 other teams out to a bouy, change positions and row back. Hilarious fun! Many boats sunk and some, amazingly, made it around the course.
2:49 pm on August 5th, 2014
ALR, I am like so many of us on the blog that skip over the part of the book where Chet is in danger. I can’t take it.
3:10 pm on August 5th, 2014
Dawson – that competition does indeed sound like fun.
We would buy 80 dollars worth of bubble wrap, 2 dollars worth of rope and the rest on flat planks for oars.
Stand all the rolls of bubble wrap on end in a group. Tie the rope around the middle and paddle like h e l l
3:32 pm on August 5th, 2014
I didn’t know that some of you skipped over the Chet in danger part of the books. We read all of the book.
3:44 pm on August 5th, 2014
Siber – we know you are a big, brave Husky dog. But when Chet was in the river, and Iko was sliding alongside – nope. Not gonna read it.
We know Chet will leave to eat Cheetos another day, but we’re still not gonna read it.
Bwaaaaawk, bwack, bwack, bwaaawk
3:45 pm on August 5th, 2014
This isn’t really a SPOILER ALERT but…, “I didn’t understand bubble gum at all.” I can’t stop laughing….
3:49 pm on August 5th, 2014
We read the whole book too. Mom got hooked on Chet with the first paragraph of the first book when Bernie shows up after drinking too much and Chet lets him know with a single thump of his tail. We found the book at Murder by the Book (where SQ will be on August 11th) when we went for a book signing by Lee Child for 1 of the Jack Reacher books.
3:56 pm on August 5th, 2014
SPOILER ALERT: “Ringo Starr? Had to be some sort of perp.” LOL!!!
I’ll stop now.
4:23 pm on August 5th, 2014
Zoe: Remember your Plunderer family loves you very much.
I am wondering about BSD, my dearest Masquers, and the lovely Nana.
4:53 pm on August 5th, 2014
Rose!…News flash from Maskers and Nana…snort!…They might get to see Spencer in Pasadena while they are visiting that neck of the woods. Maskers says he is having a great time so far in CA, home of the movie stars and jazz players…snorkel!
5:04 pm on August 5th, 2014
Danger!…I feel some of the most amazing writing goes into the Chet-In-Danger scenes…snort!…No way would I ever skip over those. No amount of Slim Jims would convince me otherwise…heh!
5:21 pm on August 5th, 2014
I was not in favor of mom reading DOI. She had been reading good, but sad, dog books, and I was tired of her crying. So when her sister and mom kept saying she had to read the book, I was not happy. She finally did read it, and laughed. Chet the Jet is now on the approved reading list.
6:10 pm on August 5th, 2014
Mom just got back from brunch and game day with “the boys”, g-son and DDD. They didn’t play Scrabble but Uno and Monopoly. Mom kicked serious booty!
Zoe, so good to hear from you and know you are loved and we enjoy hearing from you.
Still waiting fro mom’s book from 8 Cousins 🙁
Mom loves suspense and mysteries but finds “cosies” a bit ho-hum. Won’t read dead dog books but saw DOI at Books a Bajillion, cheated and saw dog was still alive on the last page so gave it a try. Mom doesn’t lol much but by mid book was doing that and biting her nails. She was sold then and there.
6:15 pm on August 5th, 2014
BooBear: Me too! I was hooked from the get-go! Laughing out loud at Chet’s antics.
I do read the scary parts but sometimes I have to do it in 2 sittings because I can’t stand it. I hated the under water scene with Iko! I tried to speed read through it but it went on and on and on and the whole time I kept holding my breath. Methinks this is great writing.
6:19 pm on August 5th, 2014
Paw and Order has arrived!!!
6:20 pm on August 5th, 2014
RIO! Thanks for the update! I hope Nana gets to meet Spence! Ask Masquers if he has seen the HOLLYWOOD sign.
6:21 pm on August 5th, 2014
Hurray, Siber-H!
6:41 pm on August 5th, 2014
We might not hear from Siber-H for a while. Heh. I have book in hand but need to do some work before I crack the cover. I am not disciplined enough to parcel it out and savor it.
I read the first page of DOI and was hooked for life. I seldom buy hardback fiction–I usually buy paperbacks–but made an exception to the Chet & Bernie series. I am thinking of buying the titles in paperback for lending out and downloading them on my Nook so they will be with me when I travel.
Zoe: your life is still full of blessings even with the losses you have experienced. You have a lifetime of memories to comfort you even though right now it’s difficult. I hope you can feel our love and hope for you to have better days. ML too, of course.
7:33 pm on August 5th, 2014
Zoe, we hope you will continue to join us. Love and support abounds on the blog.
Barb has been racing her brains trying to remember how she first became acquainted with Chet and Bernie. We think possible she read a review of Dog One It somewhere, possibly Best Friends magazine. It was not the one in People mag. which came later on. It was not at B&N either, as several of you have mentioned.
7:49 pm on August 5th, 2014
I don’t know what attracted me to buy the first DOI book on Kindle. After I read it I was just in love with Chet and Bernie. I wrote to PSQA and I had never written to an author before. I asked when the next book was coming out. He said that a couple of weeks before he had just started a blog. I jumped in, read the past two weeks and I have been here ever since.
8:00 pm on August 5th, 2014
Just when we thought our peeps were putting a pool in the bathroom for us to play in, they spoiled it. They said the toilet didn’t shot off today while they were gone so the never-ending water bowl gave us play water on the floor.
8:40 pm on August 5th, 2014
Book!…Well, it is not Paw And Order but Pressure Drop showed up today on my doorstep…wheeze!…This will tide me over Big Time!…snort!snort!
8:41 pm on August 5th, 2014
Hardcover!….And get this it is a hard cover copy!…gurgle!…I never expected that…wow!
9:11 pm on August 5th, 2014
Rio, that is exciting, but (GRUMP) our PAO didn’t arrive today 🙁 Mom is sad so we are too.
9:35 pm on August 5th, 2014
Dear Zoe–Please be very kind to yourself right now and rest in the love of your friends/family on this blog. I am attaching a quote from A. Einstein, which I hope will help a bit.

9:37 pm on August 5th, 2014
HoHo!…Look at it this way, you will have one or two, maybe three more days to enjoy reading the book, if indeed it ever shows up…snort!
9:40 pm on August 5th, 2014
ALR–what a good question! Like Siber-H, MPM and others here, I always ask when a “dog book” is recommended if the dog survives the book. If not, I refuse to read it.
I started with To Fetch a Thief because I saw it on a library shelf and thought the title was funny. As soon as I realized the dog was narrating I was hooked. When I recommend C and B books I suggest strongly that they avoid Chapter 12 and the first page and a half of 13 in DOI. Thereby Hangs is my favorite (not that anyone asked).
Dawson–It must be great to have that much H2O around…
9:40 pm on August 5th, 2014
Staff!…Tell Mr.FireSlippers that his squirrel photo is one of the best I have seen…snort!…It is so sharp you can see his little toenails…sniff!…Plus, the color of the flower highlights his golden fur…chuffle!
9:46 pm on August 5th, 2014
Still waiting around for the streaming from Poisoned Pen to start. If anyone else is in the same boat, here are the findings from some recent sociological research. (Feel free to contribute any insights about your own state/country)
How do you get 100 New Yorkers out of the pool?
Answer: Say “Every one STAY in the pool!
How do you get 100 Californians out of the pool?
Answer: Say “This pool has been CHEMICALLY TREATED for your protection!
How do you get 100 Canadians out of the pool?
Answer: Say “Please get out of the pool.”
9:46 pm on August 5th, 2014
We do read the scary parts, but the scene where Chet was left in the “shelter” and the Iko scene were hard to read and still cause jitters in the stomach if we think about them.
9:59 pm on August 5th, 2014
Waiting!…For Streaming here too…grunt!
10:14 pm on August 5th, 2014
B&M, we agree with you on the shelter and Iko scenes but we really did a LOL with Chet and Peanut in the desert. We also loved the smell descriptions of the hippies in…was it THAT?
Oh, wait, water is back on at our house, new toilet installed and we are heading for beddy-by after a busy day. Nighty night.
10:39 pm on August 5th, 2014
What happened? I was following along and then suddenly got “broadcast ended” when the conversation was still going on…
10:44 pm on August 5th, 2014
Kneadings to Zoe, with whisker kisses. You have many friends here.
How did A. Catty start reading Chet & Bernie? Did Staff tell her, or did she tell Staff? She doesn’t care when she gets the book because anticipation is 75% of the fun.
10:47 pm on August 5th, 2014
Staff; just want you to see how “sad eyes” has taken over the house. The tri-paw now sleeps where ever she can as Blondie demands the recliner!

10:49 pm on August 5th, 2014
Di!…I think they ended the broadcast right before the Quiz Questions…grunt!…I had pen in paw to scribble them down so my friend could win something, but they stopped the broadcast…heh!heh!….Son of a gun!
10:51 pm on August 5th, 2014
Repeat!…I really think if any of youse missed the Live Broadcast, you can watch a repeat. They save the events for just this purpose…heh!heh!…I LOVE the Poisoned Pen.
10:54 pm on August 5th, 2014
Old-Timers!…Like MollysMaw, we have come SO FAR from that first Twitter interview we were trying to glean information off of….heh!heh!…Do youse Old-Timers remember that??…chorkel!…Spencer posted that he didn’t type very fast and was worrit about the whole thing…chuffle!…Fun times!
11:27 pm on August 5th, 2014
I found Dog On It at the local college library. Here in North Dakota you don’t have to be a student at the college (Mayville State University) to enjoy library privileges. I was in there one day looking at the new arrivals area (an old roll top desk) and saw Dog On It on it. snicker.
I loved the cover design and picked it up to look at it. The rest is history. And yes, I did tell A Catty about it. Snort!
No book today but since mine is coming from 8 Cousins maybe it will be in the post office tomorrow.
By the way, I meant to post this a while ago. When Spence first talked about his signing at 8 Cousins someone questioned the name of the store. That is a Louisa May Alcott book. One of the sequels to Little Women. I bet that is why it is named that.
11:33 pm on August 5th, 2014
I LOVE hearing all your answers to my “Who loves Chet and how did you meet him?” question! Thanks
11:43 pm on August 5th, 2014
Staffie: Our very own Louisa Mae was named after the author of the Little Women. She was a surprise leader for the Giant. We knew she had it in here all along.
Nighty noodles.
11:51 pm on August 5th, 2014
ALR!…I have not quite been able to put into mere words why I came upon and read DOG ON IT…sniff!..I think it was one of those Angel induced happenings that happen for no real reason except “It Was Meant To Be” sort of things…heh!heh!…Life has changed as I know it…snorkel!…Good night all!
12:30 am on August 6th, 2014
Mr.Fireslippers sends this to Rio…

12:12 pm on August 6th, 2014
Don’t hurt the squirrel, Rio…
