Old Dogs

“Is this possible,” Spence says, “that this Uncle Chi Chi character – see below, if we can get this link to work – is the oldest dog in the world?”

I perked up. How old was I again? I’d heard Bernie talking about it recently, but the number slipped my mind. Was it more than two? Two’s plenty for me.

“And that whole dog years thing,” says Admin. “I never bought that.”

“You’re in a slightly better mood today.”

“Yeah – that suggestion from Kirby T. Penworthy, amended by Rio, about getting volume 6 of The World at War from the library perked me up. And way more than that – the good news about Staff. But I’m wondering if anyone knows of some real old dogs.”

There was General Beauregard, of course. I love hanging out with him when we visit our weapons guy, Otis DeWayne. Is there one of those visits in To Fetch A Thief?

(Nice job, Rosie!)

The dog was cute. The talking heads were strange. Our oldest is Ellie, she's going to be eleven.

I'm still wondering how Rosie got on the computer to let Chet know about Uncle Chi Chi. She's not a very mechanical dog.

Wöökie, please let your mom know that she can do both if she wants, this quilt is going to be cool!

Mom had a 50 lb. dog live to be almost 18…an Australian Dingo cross. The vet said he was too ornery to go sooner. Mom says that is probably true.

Some of the winning Iditarod mushers (I don't know about the other mushers) have had their lead sled dogs live to be around 18.

We don't buy into the whole dog years thing either.

Good morning, all. Uncle Chi Chi eats a food made by Halo. That's the company that Ellen Degeneres is involved with. All natural and very expensive. We don't go along with the 7 year theory either, but have seen some complicated charts at the vet's office that calculate doggy age.

  7. Melanie
    5:48 am on July 28th, 2010

There's supposed to be a difference in the amount of years per year if the dog is a large breed. I remember that, but have no idea what it is.

Riö, YSAS is in "In Vino Veritas". It's near the beginning but after the fork lift race. Divya sees Jill, at the hospital, eating a donut. As Jill walks in YSAS is coming in the door behind them.

Then when Divya says, "The bought you cheap breakfast food," you catch a glimpse of him behind them.

Lastly, when Divya and Jill are coming out of the office and Divya says, ". . nausea and strange craving's, huh?" you can see YSAS still in the hall talking to a doc.

Someday his day will come . . I'm just glad I didn't have to go through the whole program again.

Back from visiting Dan. Had a great time. Now that he's an hour away, it is a lot easier. Zoë handled the dogs and I got to be stuck in traffic for 45 minutes. Why on earth they have to pave and make a round about. I didn't like round abouts in England, can't imagine why we have to have one here. So, they tell you take an alternate route but only when you get up there and it's too late to take one. Jeez.

  46. Melanie

Perhaps a Beagle's body? Not the coloring, the head or ears though.

Or part Podengo Pequeno? A Portuguese Rabbit Hound, right size and body, ears are up, and "especially mobile". The color isn't quite right.

Lab is always a good guess. Lab's are really quick and fertile!

Kirby, tell Buford that we are pleased to meet him. I don't know, and I can't guess what Kirby is a mix of. Is there some kind of terrier in him? You are both very handsome, and I think your mom takes good photos.

Round abouts have even made it to NM. I'm afraid the round about virus is spreading across the US. NM drivers are not dealing well with them at all.

    Hi everyone,

Staff was in and out yesterday and then came back this morning and slept in the recliner all afternoon. Then she came into the quilt room where the computer lives and sat in a chair. I haven't used her for a lap yet. She seems sort of creaky and fragile. She put a pillow on her tummy and said I could 'lap' but I just made her scratch my ears and leaned into her hand.

BStover! What a brilliant idea. One of the many wonderful care aids at the Hosp. 'donated' a bottle of that stuff to us. The nurses said that if your hands weren't dirty then it was way better than soap and water. I will have the Mr. find it for me.

I can do the quilt blocks guys. It will be good for me. Make as many as you need to. We will just make the quilt bigger if we have too. Flexibility is important.

I wonder if PA/SQ's kids will fight over it? I know I would.

Hey, I was thinking it was a wall quilt, but maybe it is a snuggle quilt and I should put flannel on the back? Wookie? Any ideas yet? I suppose we should wait and see how big it turns out before we make these decisions.

So great to see the blocks. And don't worry Rio, Every block will be wonderful. Even more so because of the struggles to make it yourself. Or rather, to nag your friend to make it. I hope she isn't totally turned off by the whole thing since it was your idea. Heh.

Gulp!…Well after all of Debbie’s fine art work, we both are very nervous to put up our one finished, well almost finished square, it still needs the Signature! And it is rough around the edges…snort!…But we really need some feedback from you guys because poor Mr. Abrahams may be looking at this quilt for a while…sniffle!…Please be honest and truthful in your opinions of my first square…wheeze! … She had a very difficult time getting 3 different photos to be at the right angles and the right color to combine it into one square…gasp! …And yes! That is Coors Field here in Colorado! … sniff!

I’ve seen some really big Wall Quilts and they are wonderful as decorations! …sniff!…It will be awesome! No Matter how bad mine turns out. It will be AWESOME!…sigh

RIO!!! I LOVE IT!!! Your friend has done a dang fine job on it. She is not a no talent and we are not going to call her a no talent any more. It is perfect for you. Mom and I think the mountains in the backgroud add a special touch to it.

We don't know how your friend did it, but she did it!!! You should be very proud of her. It really is Rio watching over his Rockies.

    Wow! and double Wow-ilicious!

Those squares are wonderful. When do these squares have to be sent in? 'Cus I haven't even begun to think about this yet and, by the way, did I tell you I almost flunked sewing in high school. D minus and a half. Staff, won't you help me? Puleeeze? (Remember that $5.00 sewing machine I found for you?) Whipped cream and a cherry on top?

!!!Rio: That is wonderful as well. Cheese! I was thinking I could make something as good as you, but no way. Go Rockies!

We will send it off to staff when someone finally gets the other one done.. sigh!…What a relief!… Debbie, my friend has, in all her many visits to the sewing store, gotten to know the gal there who helps her and she told my friend, “…just think how much you have learned during this process!”…snort!… And my friend said, “Maybe I will become a quilt maker after all one day.”… heh!… Thank you Debbie and SiberH for your kind remarks and encouragement to plunder on with the next one!… snorkel!

Rio's fabulous quilt square reminds me that the one PA book I found at the used book store was The Fan. I'm saving it for when the World Series is on. The Rockies and Tigers have the exact same win/loss percentage at this point.

  101. Kirby T. Penworthy
    5:48 pm on July 28th, 2010

Man, Rio, if the Rockies had a pug that big sitting in the outfield, just think of all the games they would win! First of all, nobody on the other team would be able to hit a homerun, and the players would all be so scared of you, they probably wouldn't even want to come up to bat!

Debbie LM: Those squares look great!

Are we all supposed to have photos on our squares? Mom and I had planned something closer to what Staff's avatar looks like, with cloth portraits of Buford and me. But would it look more unified if we all did the photo thing? Buford and I don't want to be the only "odd men" out!

Those quilt squares are worthy of Staff's quilting ability. I muse: are we sure of the Pug's ancestry? Being the Center of the Universe is really a Cat trait. However, that square is the definition of Art as described in a previous post. It is not the Pug, yet it is the Pug.

The Librarian would love to spill the beans about why Dawson really got that D-, but I won't let her be rude. She needs manners, as I keep reminding her. I will keep her in check. Oops, she approaches. Must pretend I was only sleeping on the keeeeeeeeeeeeeys.

Rio, I have been off taking my 11 pills for the night time dose or I would have posted sooner. Your square is wonderful. I love you out there in left field hovering over 'your guys'. Your square makes a perfect statement about you and the Rockies. I can't wait to see the second one.

And yes, Dawson, I owe you a square or two, no doubt about it. Not only did you find me my wonderful Singer 301 in a beautiful cabinet for $5.00 but remember, last year, when you asked me if I knew what a 'Featherweight' was? And then we went to the estate sale and bought it? Yes, I owe you!

I am going to put up pix of the two machines on the nest post. I am sure they will be moderated. Only for some reason I haven't documented the beige 301 Dawson found for me yet. However here is a pic of the same model in black. I use the brown one all the time though. It sews like a dream.

The featherweight is pristine. The decals are perfect. I don't dare use it for fear I will scratch it with a pin. I have a decrepit one that I use that sews wonderfully. Looks don't count if you can sew like that machine.

I am posting these to make Wookie's Mom jealous, you understand.

I was wondering, since Staff is sort of under the weather. But getting better…ahem. Maybe you could sort of get permission from Chet for you to loan a certain ARC out. You will be sending me some quilt squares andyway. I am sure it wouldn't add much to the weight. (Sniff sniff) I would treat it very carefully and send it right back.

    (Gentle cough)

You know I am going to buy one anyway so SQ wouldn't be out any money….whimper…

    Oh well,

If they tell you that you can't I will understand. somewhat.

    Hey there Fatty Kitty,

So, will the Librarian be making you a square also Fatty Kitty? We are thinking 8 1/2 inch unfinished blocks. I happen to know she has a lovely Singer 66 hand-crank sewing machine at home.

Culturally diverse. We like it. Yep, the girls rule at our house. There are the five of us, Mom, Angie, and best of all, Dad. He says that he is surrounded by b-otches. I do not know why that would be an insult. I have been one for some times now.*hmmph*

Mr. Husky, I thought you would appreciate the snow, since you are more sand bound than snow bound. We had fun, but are glad we don't have too much snow, as it is very cold on the princess paws. Oh, and Dawson, the girls say thanks for the pats and scratches, and they send cold, wet nose bumps back to you.

    Deadline for squares.

I am trying to remember what I said before I was surprised by a kidney.

I figured I would need about a month for assembly and quilting if I did it all myself.

If our goal is to get it to PA for the TFAT publishing date then that would be mid August and we need mailing time so I would want to mail it by August 16 – 20th and if we have a month to put it together that means you guys better get working. You only have about another 2 weeks unless you want to blow the timeline all the smithereens.

That means I better get to work on the ones I am doing too. At least I don't have to mail them. Heh.

I have the photos for bluecat and Magpie on my desktop. Got them done B4 the great adventure. Now I need to print them and frame them. Tomorrow will do. I do not have to go see any doctors or needles tomorrow. First time in 2 weeks I think. I have the cat squares done, but they are in a safe place (OH NO!) so I have to search.

    Mumble mumble….stare off into space.

Guess I am going to bed. Maybe I will figure it out in the morning.

    Night all!
