“Let’s go occupy off-the-grid, Chet,” Bernie says.

I’m no wiser. Occupy? Off the grid?

“Meaning,” he says, “we drive out into the middle of the desert and pitch the tent, kick back for the weekend.”

I’m at the door.

“Freedom now,” Bernie says.

Welcome Jake, Bunny and Puppy, hard-chargin’ dude.

    Good morning Bee and all.

Hope they’re taking cold beer to the desert.

Macy! Gingerbread Muffy arrived, carefully packed in sparkly tissue. She’s cuter in person, and she’ll be a Christmas present for My Girl who collects gingerbread people. Thanks to you and your mama.

TYB’s dad – thanks for the surprise in the mail yesterday. 🙂

To each and every one of you, a blessed Thanksgiving week and a most excellent Turkey Day.

Little tired this morning for some reason. Ended up going into the kitchen . . . falling into a magnificent hole where the old stove used to be. The basement looks different when viewed from above. Thanks WL, Siber-H and Gracie. I’m sure that hole will let the “stove guys” hook things up easily. (I have not gone in the basement to look at the rock wall foundations but I’m sure everything is okay . . .)

Occupy the Desert! Or was it Occupy the Dessert? Either way sounds great.

Happy Saturday, everybody!! For the 1st time in 12 years, Mom is taking an entire week for vacation. She usually spreads them out because she hates for people to have to cover her desk for long at work. But this year……

We watched the party from the sidelines, but always enjoy the antics of everybody. Good thing we aren’t gossips, because the stories we could tell.

T&G, thank your mom again for the wonderful prayer. It was so meaningful and mom is tearing up again just thinking about it. We will be watching for it on dishlickers.

Melanie, you mentioned your almost DIL had an offer about demo pictures to sell. Can you list exactly how we can get to that? Either here or email Mom, please.

Macy, our Muffy of the North arrived yesterday. So Cute!!! But we really feel bad since that was the item we purchased before the store actually opened and then we found out how bad OHowlers wanted it as a gift for BabySiber. Pondering here.

Oh, by the way, the last time Mom took an entire week off was when she and dad went North to Alaska. That was for their 25th wedding anniversay. They fell in love with Alaska. Maybe in the next few years, they will get to go back like Rio’s friend is doing. That would be another “vacation of a lifetime” for them.

Good morning all. What a great night we had! Started with that magnificant prayer and then on to PARTY.

One of the things we especially like about Amalia’s prayers (besides all the obvious things)is that they work well for everyone, no matter what your religious beliefs. We are going to print it out and keep it to read and re-read.

Now for more mundane affairs – Barb is off to Wally World. Not her fav. but they have a good department for dvds. She has a few to get for Christmas gifts: Soul Surfer, The Help, Simpsons Season 14, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Barb loved The Help book, so she wouldn’t mind watching the movie. Maybe she will “preview” it to make sure the dvd is not defective. heh

Barb has been listening to the cds of Jacqueline Kennedy that were recorded in 1964, and just released. Wow, she was a very
Victorian wife. Seems like she didn’t discuss politics much with Jack – she thought her job was to make him comfortable and relaxed in the evening, presenting him with a nice dinner and with clean, well behaved children. She said woman, mentally and emotionally, are not cut out to be in politics. It seems in the tapes that she idolized him, which seems strange, considering that she almost divorced him at one point.

We agree with Barb about the quality of Amalia’s prayer. It worked for everyone we think. It was profound for us.
Jackie Kennedy was Mom’s idol growing up, and is probably the reason she took up horseback riding. But she sure was old-fashioned, in retrospect. Mom says that is how most women were then. We are glad that changed in Mom’s growing-up time.

Barb is back, she just ran to town, and is putting off Wally World till tomorrow.

Oley, Jackie was the idol of many of us young woman of the time. In her daughter’s forward to the tapes, she says that her mom changed some of her ideas about woman’s place in the world. She said her opinion in the 70’s and 80’s was much different, but she was so private that she never spoke publicly about these issues. In the tapes, you can hear cigaretts being lighted, ice clinking, dogs barking and children yelling. At one point, John is briefly on the tape, and it makes you want to cry.

Fellow Sibers; Speaking of JFK…Have you guys read Stephen King’s new book?

  29. Barb & Maggie
    1:53 pm on November 19th, 2011

Oley, I don’t think she was naive at all. I think she was well informed about the appetite of the Kennedy men before and after she married him. There is a story (and it has been in some Kennedy movies) that she was going to divorce him when he was a Senator (they got married 9/12/53), but that Mr. Kennedy, as she refers to him, offered her 1 mil if she would stay. Maybe true, maybe not. He was 36 when they got married, so perhaps she thought he had it out of his system.

hi everyone. We are whispering just in case anyone has a touch of a headache after that party. Wow- you guys had a GREAT time. Mama said that if she had known there would be rootbeer floats, she might have hung around a little longer. We say good thing she didnt – she wad grumpy enough getting up early this morning. Imagine if she had stayed up late partying.
Today is the first day at the show. Her part is done for the day, and she is back in the hotel room cleaning all the silver jewelry. Dad is doing a seminar, and all in all, she says she would rather be here with her feet up, with silver polish and HBO
She stopped at an Ocean State store on the way back to the hotel and they had just gotten in a shipment of stuffed animals – all very realistic breeds of dogs and cats. She treated herself to a Corgi, and they had Pugs,Poodles,Huskies,Cocker Spaniels, Porty Water Dogs, King Charles Spaniels etc. It took a lot of control for her not to fill her cart. But then again….the store isn’t THAT far away.
And now-back to the silver polish.

  33. Siber-H

Well, the Churchill webcams are down. 🙁

Let me see if I can remember some stuff:

Zoë is reading the Stephen King book and says it’s very good.
When the Kennedy’s were married, Dan and Zoë were driving by and saw them come out of the church. Cool.

You know how when you have company coming and all of a sudden you start looking at your house and say “What the carpola happened?”

Today has been me cleaning the west wing and getting stuff put away, dusting (always interesting for me and my allergies) reorganizing the bookshelves, unpacking a box of books that’s been packed since the beginning of the summer and washing off stuff.

I have quit now. Or should I say my back has quit as of now!

Fellow Sibers, Mom read The Dead Zone and saw the movie, but she still doesn’t remember it that well. Way back when it was released, “Christine” was her favorite. (Mom can be somewhat low-brow at times).

Oley, The book Barb is reading about Jackie is Jacqueline Kennedy, Historic Conversations on Life with JFK, interviews with Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. You probably wont want to buy it, as the cost is in the $50-$60 range. It is expensive because it includes 8 cds of the interviews in a separate volumn. Barb found it at the local library in the new books section. One of the librarians traveled in to Naperville Il, and attended a book signing by Caroline Kennedy, so it is a signed copy. Unfortunatley, a lot of the questions are about politicians and issues that were of interest at the time, but not so much today. He should have concentrated more on her and Jack, rather than what they thought of Cardianal Cushing or Dean Rush – that sort of thing.

That Steven King book sounds very interesting. What is the name of it?

Howdoo all! I am occupying the arm of the chair where mom is sitting. I’ve been snoozing all day, which is one of my favorite activities.

Mom has been cooking all day. We (Hey! I helped by watching.) made 2 pumpkin and 2 apple pies. Apple pies were made with a mix of honeycrisp, granny smith, gala, braeburn and jonagold apples. She also has a bean and ham soup in the crockpot, and bread in the bread machine.

We’re heading to Grand Rapids tomorrow to celebrate our Thanksgiving because our BIL is a retail manager and works nights during the holidays, and he will be working Thanksgiving night. I will see all my favorite people tomorrow, my grandma and grandpa, along with my aunt Mimi, BIL, their two boys, plus my favorite doggies, Obi the pom and Cubby the weiner doggy, my mom’s 2-legged son and his fiance.

On the actual Thanksgiving day, grandma and grandpa are coming to my house (grandpa hasn’t seen the new apartment), aunt Mimi and the 2-legged son and fiance will be here. I LOVE having 2 Thanksgivings. In fact, that should just be a rule.

Mom says that work has been nothing but crazy shizz every dang day. She’s been going nuts dealing with fraud, falsifications and liars. She says, “Cooking is therapy for all the crazy I have to deal with at work.” Works for me.

Harness!….Both her and her mother have come to the conclusion that poor Bo was probably beaten with something like the harness….sniffle!… He was Vicious! When my friend tried to put that harness on him he went Beserk!…grunt!… I was in awe. …sniff!… Thankfully she had her coat and her leather gloves on because he really would have hurt her….wuffle!… Everyone now knows that Bo does indeed have teeth and he knows how to use them…grunt!

Conclusion!…. Mollys Mom and SiberH, those two here came to the same conclusion you guys did. Leave the poor guy alone and give him time to learn to trust everybody more….wuffle!…Then buy a totally different and very soft harness. Call a Vet who does house calls….wheeze!….He still has to get his shots no matter what…heh!….Specially with those raccoons who drop in every now and then….sneeze!

That was very funny BearSpiritDog . . .

I work so much at the computer for YSAS and results are virtual for me, so I just decided that I needed to get something done that I could actually see!

    It was fun. Tomorrow . . .

Zoë and I will take the Pack for a walk/run while Dan is at church. Then we come home and the “Sears Dudes” come between 1 and 3 to put in the new stove. I will be working in my room. Time to pull out the warm clothes and put the summer stuff away. That will guarantee a return to warm weather.

“Watchers”, love that book. I believe that Travis called “FurFace” an “it” because he really didn’t know much about dogs. Not sure though. It’s been quite awhile since I read it.

Riö: Is Bo food motivated? Our Jamie, our foundation bitch and spent the first two years of her life in a crate unless she was being shown, would try to attack cars and trucks while on walks. Rather dangerous.

Zoë figured out to take kibble with her and throw it to the ground when she first noticed the vehicle coming. Jamie would be intent on the food instead of the truck. Not sure this would help your friend with Bo, especially if the harness is difficult to get on . . . Pondering.

Today has been a tough day, and I think this is just the beginning. Howard, my old stray and my heart is on the decline and nearing the Bridge. He is finally asleep at my feet.

Food!….Bo managed to get three or four liver treats out of those guys while the whole Iron-Pug Harness Showdown was going on…heh!heh!… He’s a bloody genius when it comes to food!…chorkel!….He may have even got more because he was burping liver there for a while….grunt!

Bo will soon realize he is in a loving home now. The biting is obviously not directed toward your friend, or he would not be wanting to climb up on her lap. Perhaps it does have something to do with the Brutal Walks since he allowed the harness for 2 of the walks before objecting. Rio, if he could see you going on the walks he might change his mind – only problem being: the harness is too small for you.

    6:59 pm on November 19th, 2011

It makes me angry to think what Bo’s former life was like.
Very good idea to get a vet that makes house calls. While the vet is there, mention the problem. Sometimes vets can help with behavior problems and sometimes they can’t. It never hurts to try.

Keep pondering Melanie. Food is used so much these days to help dogs along in their training. We are pondering.

Rebecca, So sorry to hear about Howard. We are thinking of you.

Rio, That is a puzzlement. Does he ever get like that at any other time when she wants him to do something he doesn’t want to do? Or is the biting more directed at the harness itself? Could it be hurting him when it is on? We agree, try the soft fabric one and see what happens.

Rio, We just want to repeat that we don’t think Bo is a bad dog. He is just a dog with a behavior problem that needs to be resolved. If you have continuing problems after awhile, it might be worth the money to talk to a professional trainer for an hour and get some recommendations. You are not at that point yet, but just a thought for the future.

You could also have Cesar come over. He could take him to his place in L.A. and give him some group therapy. heh heh

Behold!….Harness #2….heh!… My friend and her mother were doing dishes and all of a sudden someone remembered seeing Another black thick leash and a collar….grunt!…. My friend went and dug through all of Bo’s stuff and pulled out a contraption that is a harness which apparently does not go under the legs….woooooo!… Bo was up on the bed and he let her mother put the collar over his head and then thread the other part under his chest ….yippee!….But, that other part that goes under his chest is not long enough….wuffle!… The thing is, they think they have solved the Iron-Pug Harness Showdown problem. All she has to do tomorrow is go buy a longer part that snaps together under his chest…heh!heh!… Now she doesn’t have to call the expensive V-E-T for a house call and she might even be able to start taking Bo on short walks if this works….grunt! ….He still needs to build up that endurance thingy….snort! …Poor bastard….heh!

Walks!…. No one is up to the Brutal Walks but me and my friend….grunt!….Bo has to make baby-steps towards that goal. With darkness, cold and snow there’s not much chance for anyone doing Brutal Walks until Spring ….Woooooooo!… That’s why she goes to that other place where Golinka works….sniff!….She figures Bo and I will rough-house enough together to get our exercise…heh!heh!… I can still whip his ass if I have to because I am in better shape…snort! …Endurance pal! Endurance! ….chuffle!

Bella- Mama says she sent a message to her beloved Peabody on the other side. She will be waiting on the other side of the bridge to show Howard where all the good biscuit bushes are.
We know that doesn’t make your parting with him any easier. But we would bet our best chew toy that now Howard will be leading the team in the Iditarod.
    We’re sending hugs

Rio- just a thought. We have heard of a number of rescued dogs who had issues and changed their personality completely when their name was changed by their new family. Maybe Bo would benefit from a new identity. Or even changing the spelling of his name – ” Beau” maybe?

Behavior!…. I am not going to talk about Bo’s Beau’s behavior right now, but her Mothers strange new behavior….sniff!….Today, she actually left the house and went shopping at that big Pet Store. A place she has most certainly never been before in her life…cough!….She spent a fortune buying Beau a new toy…grump!…Buying Beau more liver and duck treats. The expensive kind!…wheeze!….Then she bought these lemony wipes that are supposed to be safe to clean Beau’s face! There was some other stuff that I can’t even remember….cough!….All I can say is, Where is My New Stuff?…sniff!…I’m starting to think her mother likes Beau more than me….wuffle!

Mood!… Her mother does seem to be in a better mood lately, so maybe Beau can belong to her and I will still be the Number One Son with my friend….wuffle!…I’m feeling better and better about this whole rotten deal….sneeze!

Thank you all for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. Howard is my heart. His decline shouldn’t surprise me as he was dirt’s older brother when he found me, but I have dreaded this time. Today, he is having trouble walking and has little balance, but has found sleep and rest as long as he is touching me. He spent a three hour slumber using my left foot as a pillow. Tonight he and I will sleep in the living room next to the woodstove.

AJ, true to form won’t lie to me to make me feel better. He is honest, but comforting. He said he has no idea how long Howard will be with us—moments to weeks—but Howard will never question that he is loved. I know I may have to help him cross the Bridge—a decision that seems impossible to make. I don’t want him to suffer.

Thank you for wrapping us in the quilt.
