Obsession

“You’ve got tickets to the noon game at Fenway Park today?” says Admin.

“Uh-huh,” Spence says.

“Plan to go?”

“Yup.”

“Heard of Irene?”

Spence nods. “But it’s the Red Sox,” he says.

“What if they call the game while you’re on your way up there?” Admin says. “What if they play a few innings and then call it, and close the bridges before you can get back?”

“Lester’s pitching,” Spence says.

Welcome Kelly from the Adirondacks.

We’ll be back tomorrow, as long as there’s power.

We are heading off today to central Illinois for a gathering. Back tomorrow.

Meantime, we hope and pray that all are safe today and tomorrow. Our thoughts are with you all.

    Hey Guys!

This place is crazy. First off, Mom & Pop had to work most of the night. Then they got up at the crack of dawn and started putting away all the patio furniture. We no longer have our cave and, horror of horrors, we don’t even have our lounge chairs! What gives? Is summer over?

Enjoy the game, Spencer. Is Irene a girl who is going to see the Red Sox with you?

Good morning, y’all! We seem to have made it through the night without any problems. Still a little breezy and cloudy, but no rain at all. Of course, we could use some rain, but not a hurricane kind of rain!

I hope the rest of my fellow East Coasters have as easy a time of it as we did, but I’m afraid that may not be the case. Be safe, y’all!

    Sheesh!
    Jasper has the right idea.
    Hunker down!
Watch the Billings, Montana Little League World Series on abc and stay safe.
YSAS: Get ye to a soft spot and hunker down!
Oley Howlers: Hunker down and maybe get a nap?
Kirby T. Penworthy: Hawkeye lying beside the coffin of his friend is a picture that tells a very sad story.
Staff: Oh no! They are decommissioning your post office? What a bummer. I love that doggie stamp. Way cool.

He has been writing lists for me to do . . .

Of things I’ve all ready done.

Waiting for the film photographer nephew to arrive with girlfriend. He’s staying one hour and then going up to Maine.

After that POOL!! I’m going to empty part of it. Like about ten inches.

Dawson: That Postal Dog stamp is my favorite. And, it’s a Forever Stamp.

Have fun at the ballgame! The game should be over before the hurricane hits MA, but I would take a toothbrush just in case.
I can follow the score at home in 95 degree, sunny NM.

All of you that are in the hurricane’s path have intelligently prepared for it. I’m not sure about Spence, but, heck, it is baseball.

Fellow Siberians, Let your folks put away the lounge chairs. I had one of ours chase me across the yard last spring and that was just a NM spring wind, not a hurricane.

Did you know that men are three times as likely to be struck by lightening than women? It’s true.
But it has nothing to do with chemistry and gender. It has to do with the fact that WOMEN KNOW ENOUGH TO GET INDOORS WHEN THE WEATHER IS BAD!

The barometer is falling, and the air is getting “close”. We are driving Mama nuts, barking at every little sound or movement. The Kats are prowling the house, slinking along close to the floor and meowing.

Thanks everyone for the expressions of concern. So far not too bad here, but I am safely ensconced on a quilt in mom’s quilt studio just in case. We actually took a nice walk this morning (about 9:00 am) and it is just raining lightly now. Mom and dad got all the lighter furniture off of the patio and screened in porch yesterday and even took the cargo box off the the Wookiemobile this morning (just in case). Even if we lose electricity (our crummy power company Pepco actually was making robo calls yesterday telling people to expect multi-day outages) hopefully the IPaw should still work so we should be able to stay in contact. As to Spence, all I can say is the Red Sox had better win. Over and out from Wookie (from mom’s computer)

Sterno is either liquid or gel fuel for small warming cookers like chafing dishes. We depend on our chafing dish in power outages! We can always have soup that way and it saves having to open the fridge. (the more you open the fridge, the faster it warms up and compromises food safety)

Whispering: I heard Dad tell Mom that when my girl gets back from the beach on Sunday, she needs to give Maggie a bath because she reeks. I don’t know what he’s talking about. She smells just fine to me. No need to give her a bath, because when my girl gives one of us a bath, she gives all three of us baths. And then Mom and Dad laugh at me because I go tearing around the house rubbing myself on whatever I can find to help me get all that yucky water off! Bah humbug!!!

I’m back from Sam’s house while the family took her girl to you-know-where. Mom said it was a great day, with tears, of course.

Yesterday the new freshmen and parents were greeted by the Hobart and William Smith president and the students were given a book – KaBOOM!: How One Man Built a Movement to Save Play by Darrell Hammond. Then this morning the students were going into the community to build a playground. Tomorrow will be a freshmen welcoming ceremony and the speaker will be Darrell Hammond! We are so pleased Sam’s girl chose this school – they are off to a great start.

Mollypop: I hope Sam isn’t too devestated. I know she thought it would never happen. How’s she taking the news?

That book looks great! I was reading about it, and it seems like such a good idea to tie reading a book with a service project. (Both my girl and boy had to read a certain book when they got to college, but it never went further than an author visit and group discussions.) I’m sure the new students will bond with each other much sooner, and there are needy kids out there who have a new playground. Win-win all around!

Just checking in! YSAS says some rain, not much wind as of yet. But Starbucks was closed.

Film photographer nephew came an hour late and then stayed for two hours. I finally said goodbye and went out to the pool.

The pool is now lower, and I figured out a way to empty it with out too much hassle if we get more rain then expected.

Laundry is down, have to feed the dogs.

Zoe’s wrist is not good. The doc took water out of it, made her give LOTS of blood, (did I tell you guys this already?) Could be a strange arthritis or an infection. She had a fever, started taking the antibiotics last night and the fever broke. It’s a wait and see thing. Jeez.

My hip is acting up! A storm must be coming. I’m thinking of standing in the pool for the duration because I don’t hurt there, but after reading that females of the species have more sense to stay out of the weather, I guess I can’t let my side down.

Kirby, There are dog wipes sold in the pet stores that are suppose to help clean us up. Mom tried them once (not on me) and she didn’t like it because it left a residue, but recently a friend told her to use a wet cloth to wipe the dog after the doggie wipe was used and that would remove the residue. Mom was like, duh, why didn’t she think of that.

    Bear Spirit Dog,
There are quite a few post offices in northwest Minnesota and northeast North Dakota that are on the list. We are pretty sure our little town PO will get axed because both it and the larger town (6 miles away) that services it are on the list. That would mean we would have to drive 18 miles to go to the post office. And that is 18 miles one way!

The list is not a final list. We have to wait and see where the ax falls.

Staff’s brother, the TurtleMan came by today and got a Patch. He says he is going to put it on the bag that holds his snowshoes. Sounds like a good idea to me.

The Sox are actually playing two games today. The game originally schedule for this afternoon was moved a little earlier to noon, and tomorrow’s game was rescheduled for today at 5 in the hopes of getting it in before Irene hit. However, it’s not looking good for that. The first game is on a rain delay in the bottom of the 7th inning, with the BoSox beating the A’s 9-2. Do you think Spence remembered his raincoat?

Masquers: We only have a handful of channels so I appreciate the updates on that hard headed woman Irene.

I’ve spent the morning cleaning the inside of the handler cabin. Mick and Jodi, friends of the kennel (official welder of the kennel and maker of AJ’s favorite jam respectively) are coming out today. They are clearing out some of their don’t-want-anymore items and have offered to help furnish the cabin with said items. Rio, your friend will meet Mick and Jodi when she comes up—they are wonderful people.

Fellow Siberians, Spence is a really big baseball fan and, well, he had those tickets…
I just looked up on my trusty map where you guys live in PA.
I wonder how long you will have fierce winds. I want the horses to be okay. They might not like this. I wouldn’t like it.

Hmmm, how to put this. The eastern part of the storm usually gets the worst wind. The western the most rain.

The Royals’ have had some rain. We haven’t yet. Irene isn’t really getting here until tomorrow.

I hope the horses will be okay. The barn might be a good place to hunker down with a load of hay.

So….another barb coming my way! Sometimes I feel like Underdog. But wait! Wasn’t he a Hero? Bet someone we know would also be attending a certain Rockies game (if he was allowed to leave his yard) no matter where it was being played, inclement weather or not. Sadly, in this case it is something far worse than inclement. Blast! Can never remember the difference between Storm Watch and Storm Warning and not knowing could mean the difference between Life & Death. But why would I worry? With my Time Traveling abilities I’d simply go someWHERE else. Which is what I’m going to do right now – Suppertime calls.

Stay safe, guys. We had Hurricane Ike a couple of years ago and lost power for about 10 days. For some unknown reason, we had a cool front come through right after the storm, so it was really nice outside and with the windows open. By the end of 10 days, the front was long gone and it was hot.

Speaking of hot, we tied an alltime record high temp here in Houston today….109. Unbelievable. The electric bill is going to be a bitch this month because Mom just keeps the a/c running.

B: Rio is right about Glenn Close and Damages (for which she won an Emmy) Very interesting directing and filming. Lots of little subtle nuances in the script. One of the best series we’ve ever seen. The 3rd Season features Martin Short and Lilly Tomlin in non-comedic roles and Ted Danson returns from Season One. DirecTV has picked up the show for Season 4, which showed this summer. No Pay TV here so have to wait (forever) for Netflix. (sigh)

Gilly is really scared. If I sit down, she is in my lap. If I move, she is under my feet. Something about this storm is really getting her rattled.

Rebecca: We’re all A-OK! My girl’s still at Myrtle Beach, but last we heard she wasn’t having any problems (aside from those ceiling fans that blew off of the porch last night!) I haven’t heard from my boy, but he’s even further inland than we are, so no worries there!

Silly little sissy dawgs! We are brave and adventurous Kats. We are looking out the windows at the wind driven rain, and those goofy dawgs have their heads shoved under the bed. Mama says we have to share the big bed with them tonight – that means 6 of us – IN ONE BED! Outrageous!
Just cuz they’re scared. We’re not………HOLY CARPOLA – did you see THAT flash of lightening???? Move over Tupper…Kats comin’ thru!

Rebecca: Just before she signed off, Melanie said the members of the pack were all snoring. She just didn’t say where — maybe there’s a sack on her bed and they all hit it! I wouldn’t think a Newf pack that big would leave much room for a human — no matter what size the bed is!!!

I was just searching for this info for a while. After six hours of continuous Googleing, finally I got it in your site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that don’t rank this type of informative web sites in top of the list. Usually the top sites are full of garbage.
