Nothing Like Baseball!
“Game four ends on a pickoff?” Spence says. “Game three on an obstruction call? New things keep happening in baseball.”
“The permutations and combinations are endless,” says Admin. “Here’s hoping for a game seven.”
“Don’t tell me you’ve – “
“Yup.”

Gooood morning, everyone! Soooo much going on! Mom would love to be a sponser as per yesterday’s discussion…could anyone stand to be her partner? Dawson? Or Rose? Great Nana News š Whoo hoo!

8:37 am on October 28th, 2013
Did Admin make a bet?
Good morning all.

Thank you Rose. The Google Doodle is honoring the 116th birthday anniversary of Edith Head. She won eight Academy Awards for costume design.

9:32 am on October 28th, 2013
((((((sigh))))))
Guess we should be grateful the Chet and Bernie are not rabid baseball fans and fill every book with stats and play-by-plays.
Bee – can we get a slice of some kind of creamy, comfort food pie?
10:00 am on October 28th, 2013
Tupper’s Mom: Staff mentioned rhubarb pie last night. I haven’t had that in years and love it. However, it isn’t creamy. How about banana cream pie with whipped cream on top? Or butterscotch cream…or chocolate cream ( my favorite).
10:18 am on October 28th, 2013
Ooooo – Butterscotch cream, please. Rhubarb? Ick.
10:23 am on October 28th, 2013
I use my mom’s recipe for butterscotch cream pie. It’s really rich and creamy.
10:34 am on October 28th, 2013
We love old recipes. We have cookbooks from grandmother and great grandmother, and love to just read some of the old recipes.
One of our household treasures is a gigantic cookbook- must weigh at least 10 pounds. It was offered in the early 1950’s in segments. You collected the sections you wanted, and there was a binder offered to create your own book. We have all the sections, and while many of the recipes are old fashioned, there is a wealth of information about cooking that we just don’t find in modern cookbooks. It is our “go-to” resource.
10:36 am on October 28th, 2013
Dear Tupper and gilly’s Mom,
I am going to watch Staff try to phone you on the real phone….heh heh heh. Stand by…
10:43 am on October 28th, 2013
Rhubarb pie is one of Barb’s favorites. It can be a little tart, but T & G’s mama might like rhubarb custard pie instead. We do not like rhubarb strawberry.
Trying to finish up the winter prep this week. Garden is cleaned up. pots put away, and finishing up the last grass cutting of the year, thank dawg!
11:23 am on October 28th, 2013
I believe admin has bet the farm on a game seven.
BStover: I would love your mom’s recipe for butterscotch cream pie?
T&G: Me too! I love old cookbooks and recipes. I have one of Grandma’s old cookbooks. It is from when she ran a hotel and it is baking for a crowd.
HOH: Yes! I will be your partner for the sponsorship of the A-team. Thanks for asking. Put one dollar in the jar. Of course, we are really only sponsoring half of a dog because the real cost of sponsoring one of the A-team is $500. but I’m sure Rio will be able to make a deal with Snowbella.
Nana is standing! Next will be taking baby steps. Baby steps all the way to complete recovery. Go Nana!
11:32 am on October 28th, 2013
Howdy! $1 a day? That could be doable. We will ask the ‘rents when they come home.
We overheard Mom and Pop talking about goats! Yikes!!!!
11:37 am on October 28th, 2013
I wish mom could stay awake for the end of these baseball games. gah I bet Spence is staying awake and he is two hours later than she is. GO BOSTON!!
Rhubarb pie, Oh Yes!

BStover: Thanks! I will make that recipe later today.
I will resume my Monday afternoon job starting today.
HOH: I am looking for a large jar to use as a piggy bank. The man who lives in this house…if he throws his clothes on the floor, I will be going through the pockets, looking for change.
2:03 pm on October 28th, 2013
Hello?
Is there anybody out there?
2:13 pm on October 28th, 2013
Dawson: with ya…Is anybody out there?
2:17 pm on October 28th, 2013
So far Alaska is having the weirdest winter. North Pole is 48 degrees; Anchorage has been around that and raining for days. Ugh. Off to do errands and then plan to read (one of the joys of being retired).
2:26 pm on October 28th, 2013
I’m here.
2:32 pm on October 28th, 2013
CHobbit: Love your ideology. Being retarded is great!
Dawson: Will check Old Fart’s pockets too BUT his money jingles , mine folds;
We will get there! $1 a day is OK. Wow can that be a mantra? “one a day is ok”
2:38 pm on October 28th, 2013
Siber H: Ifn ya’ll want to, mom thinks we get too many treats š So she will partner with you too OOH! Dawson, Siber and us, if you want. For Snowhook.
2:57 pm on October 28th, 2013
HOH I’m up for it. Rio and I are partners but I can do another one also. Mom won’t care since it is for Snowhook.
I don’t do math. lol I hope you do math.
3:00 pm on October 28th, 2013
C. Hobbit: Wasn’t the weather up there kind of unusual for the 2013 Iditarod? I remember it being in the mid-30’s when Grizz and I left New York, and in the mid-30’s the week we were there.
3:14 pm on October 28th, 2013
Whoo hoo; We love Siber H and Dawson Does that mean we are partners with two friends? Yippee!!
3:19 pm on October 28th, 2013
HOH You betcha!
Wose, I remember the Snowhook team having to cross running water around the ghost town of Iditarod (I think it was)…water that should have been frozen that time of year.
I had nightmares about this. shudder
3:30 pm on October 28th, 2013
Siber and Dawson : We are twins! Whoo hoo Let’s hope for a cool Alaska winter.
3:46 pm on October 28th, 2013
We are here praying for a cold, frozen race this year too. We remember the dogs getting too hot, and everyone having to run at night when the temperature went down.
Here’s to an fast and easy glide over the ice for AJ and the Snowhook team!
4:22 pm on October 28th, 2013
I can partner for the A-Team. Howlers – did your ‘rents decide?
4:29 pm on October 28th, 2013
Ok – news flash – Melanie, Zoe and Martha stopped by here on their way home. Today was Melanie’s day to see the oncologist. In a nutshell – the doctor was a first class jerk. He had nothing new to tell Melanie, seemed to just be disassociated with her as a human being, and once again was not even aware of her medical history.
So, the upshot is, she still has no further information, but he does know that she will not be crossing that particular doctor’s doorstep again. She will tell her very good liver doctor that she wants to see a different doctor, and see what he has to suggest.
Melanie asked us to tell you all that she appreciates your good thoughts and prayers, and will be back on the blog when she is not so exhausted.
And we think you should all know that Mama gave all of the company tea and cookies, and we got NUTHIN! What’s up with that?
4:45 pm on October 28th, 2013
Cookies!…I could go for a few dozen cookies right now…snort!…I’m very hungry and my friend does not get home from the busy-place for hours…sniff!
Game!…Is the 5th game on tonight or tomorrow night?…grunt!
4:48 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio, Tonight…coverage starts at 5:30 our time.
4:49 pm on October 28th, 2013
Dear T & G,
We are really glad you gave Mel and Zoe some refreshments. They need all the love (and food) they can get. Hugs to you all from Alice, Abbie and me.
4:51 pm on October 28th, 2013
T&G Thank you for the update on Melanie. Our prayers and thoughts and support are with her. She will find a great oncologist. We are sorry this guy was such a jerk.
4:52 pm on October 28th, 2013
Melanie: thank goodness you can work with your liver doctor to see a different doctor. Inexcusable.
One of my errands today was a big box store. I usually have my own permanent bag I use but it wasn’t in the car. I bought 12 items and ended up with 6 plastic bags. I also set off the alarm going out of the store. I thought it was the clothing but it turned out it was the flank steak I bought. Meat gets stolen a lot so some packages have “soft tags” on them that set off the alarm. What was weird is that no one came to check on the alarm going off and I had to go back into the store (setting off the alarm again) and approach a clerk. Then I was told to go ahead and exit the store, “it’s ok,” setting off the alarm a *third* time. I am so glad I am old and blonde because that seems to work for the the snafus I get myself into.
Good news: I appealed my parking ticket from last week (the time I couldn’t find a parking meter by the car and didn’t realize that it was at the end of the street for all the cars to use). It was changed from a fine to a warning so my record is clear.
4:55 pm on October 28th, 2013
Beau: have you been in another commercial? This came up on Groupon today. At this rate you are going to be getting famous. Princess Sammie will be jealous. (AND you must be rolling in $$).
4:57 pm on October 28th, 2013
I think I need a cookie right now. Or two.
While I was at Quilt Camp Mr.Staff supervised a young boy and his father and uncle. The father and uncle took out an old door to a no-longer existing deck and put in a nice window. The boy had tomato soup and petted Alice and chose a nice toy (from the cat’s stash) to take home to the dog. I think the big Rat from Ikea is missing. (Thank Dog, what was I thinking?)
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20153695/
The new window puts a lot more light into the bedroom and now I have a good view of the east meadow and the new deck below it. Wow!
4:58 pm on October 28th, 2013
Goooodf for you,Hobbit! Blonde frequently works š
5:08 pm on October 28th, 2013
Melanie, hope you don’t have to wait long to find another doc. Wonder why the nice liver doctor sent you there. Did he think he was the best, even with his bad bedside manners? Some of the specialists seem to be too full of themselves.
5:53 pm on October 28th, 2013
Hobbit! Kat is dyeing her hair blonde as we type.
Staff, the window sounds excellent. More light, and a view!
T&G, Thanks for the Melanie update. That news makes all of us want tograb someone by the pant leg.
Bluecat, They said YES!
6:03 pm on October 28th, 2013
Grrrr, I also want to grab an oncologist by the pants leg. My teeth can feel the fabric already.
6:24 pm on October 28th, 2013
Hope Melanie finds a nicer doctor. She seems to be a magnet for obnoxious docs, or is it just that most of them are that way?
Game is starting soon. Hope we have an exciting game!
6:26 pm on October 28th, 2013
BooBear up top beside a picture of a Golden named Denali. Very fitting.
CHobbit: Your luck has changed! About time.
Our weather has been warm for this time of year which does not have me complaining, yet. I keep thinking that instead of heavy coats for our A-team we may need raincoats.
T&G: Thanks for the update. I was wondering what was happening with our favorite videographer but didn’t want to bother her with the question. Well! That doctor is in the wrong business. I am glad Melanie has the good doctor to go back to for help.
I wonder if Nana has done her leg exercises today.
I’m not sure about pie tonight because I’ve been invited for Chinese food and I can’t resist.
6:28 pm on October 28th, 2013
Oncologist!…You get on leg Macy and I’ll get the other, we’ll take him down and then one of the Newfs (Frank) can sit on his oncologist face….grump!
6:30 pm on October 28th, 2013
Teams!….Sounds like some Team Building is going on!…snort!…This is good news for Snowhook no matter what they say about the half price A-Team sponsorship…heh!heh!
6:39 pm on October 28th, 2013
Yikes! What a day. Best thing? We got a pumpkin and Dinner from The India House. Yummers.
As far as the doc is concerned, thanks Macy and Riƶ. I will take you up on that.
As we were leaving my sister remarked, “Why didn’t he do the blood test for the tumor markers before you got there?”
Good question. Then we might have learned something new. Instead we rehashed everything we already knew, and I had to fill him in on some things. He also was wishy washy, and distant. This guy would be in charge of my cancer treatments? Yeah, right.
Anyhoo, very tired and angry. Will be hitting the hay soon.
Tomorrow is another day, and I’ll never have to see him again.
6:45 pm on October 28th, 2013
Melanie big hugs and love going out to you. I’m so glad the Royal Mum was with you.
6:49 pm on October 28th, 2013
CHobbit, Happy to know that your blondeness is keeping your wanted posters in the post office.
7:04 pm on October 28th, 2013
Who knew that chickens dress up for Halloween?

7:04 pm on October 28th, 2013
Dear Melanie,
Sending the power of rage. Sometimes it can be a wonderful thing. I am so glad you decided not to visit him again. What an ash hole. grunt.
7:05 pm on October 28th, 2013
7:08 pm on October 28th, 2013
Macy, that looks like a Yeti. I just read a fiction book about a Yeti. Halloween is the time to read horror stories.
7:18 pm on October 28th, 2013
Howlers – I’m glad they said yes. I’m counting my coins.
Dear Melanie – warm thoughts continue with you and your family for a better outcome soon.
‘Night all. Off to veg in front of on demand Homeland.
7:25 pm on October 28th, 2013
Thanks youse guys.
Just finished my email to my real doc. ZoĆ« read it. She usually tries to calm me down. She didn’t this time.
Macy, that is a cute chicken. I bet Barb could tell you what kind it is.
I watched Ghostbusters last night. Afterwards I wanted a marshmallow. Stay Puff!
I am now going to take some sleepy time tea. My adrenaline is rather high for some reason.
7:32 pm on October 28th, 2013
Bluecat: love Homeland.
7:40 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rage!…Speaking of rage, her mother and a gal from the bank waited all day for a UPS guy to show up with closing papers…sniff!…Did he ever show up? No!…grunt!…Now what?
7:41 pm on October 28th, 2013
Finally!…She turned the game on!…wheeze!….There is only so much Rage I can listen to while the World Series is being played without me watching…grunt!
7:46 pm on October 28th, 2013
Barb says that is probably a Silkie, at least the head looks like one. Might be some photo shopping going on. They have white fluffy feathers and black skin. Not much of a meat bird, as they are small. More for pet or exhibition, mild mannered and nice to raise.
7:48 pm on October 28th, 2013
Barb!….Are you talking about Beau in that costume?…snort!
7:48 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio, What are the closing papers for? What did we miss? Are you buying or selling?
7:50 pm on October 28th, 2013
Sneeze!….I have no recollection of being in dat der college boy-ape costume…snuffle!cough!….I hope I got paid for it dough…sniff!
7:51 pm on October 28th, 2013
Boston is ahead by 1 run!
7:52 pm on October 28th, 2013
Barb!….Her mother bought a house in Iowa without knowing how to use a computer, fax or copy machine…sniff!…Guess who did all her leg work for her?…grump!…Now the big day has finally come and the UPS guy is MIA…wheeze!
7:57 pm on October 28th, 2013
Beau: I bet they gave you a couple of treaties during the photo shoot and called it good. So no $ but maybe a dry milk bone or two. You might want to consider getting an agent.
P.S.: If TYB can have a calendar, you can too!
8:01 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio, No, we were talking about the fluffy chicken. Beau does not have feathers. Is your friend’s mother going to live in Iowa part of the time? That might be a good thing for your friend, no?
When the Silkie first was introduced from China, it was rumored to be part chicken, part rabbit. We just read that on Goggle.
8:03 pm on October 28th, 2013
Barb!…heh!snort!heh!…Her mother live in Iowa? No, nothing as wonderful as that will ever happen…heh!heh!
8:05 pm on October 28th, 2013
SiberH!….It would be nice if the Sox went back to Boston one game ahead…snort!….This game is going to be very telling!…wheeze!
8:13 pm on October 28th, 2013
I would like it very much if Boston gets one game ahead tonight.
8:15 pm on October 28th, 2013
Teams!….So SiberH, you are on 2 Dollar a Day teams so far?…snort!…How many teams do you think you could be on totally?…heh!heh!…This is so good! Being on multiple teams!…Woooo!
8:15 pm on October 28th, 2013
Glad Melanie is home and hope she settles down soon…Frank,LAP.We are also pleased that CHobbit is not a convict on the lam fron the meter maid, Can’t believe it is almost November!! Daddy Dawg has modified mom’s garden wagon into a hay wagon to pull with the riding mower to further spoil the grands for his b-day er, Halloween.
8:17 pm on October 28th, 2013
Correction!…I should have said, “…you are on 2 One Dollar a Day teams…?”…snorkel!
8:23 pm on October 28th, 2013
Yes, I believe your math is correct, Rio. umm You can keep track of me for me.
I don’t know how many teams I can be on. Mom might stop me.
8:33 pm on October 28th, 2013
Siber MrH. We are just glad we and you are one team. Go Snowhook.
8:35 pm on October 28th, 2013

Stand beside her and guide her ….From the mountains to the prairies to the oceans white with foam!…God Bless America. My home sweet home!….Wooooo!….I could not keep up typing the words to the song tonight…snuffle!
9:19 pm on October 28th, 2013
My Two-legged was in a leadership training all day and couldn’t access this here blog. She was accepted to the program last year and was accepted, but in the end couldn’t participate because of a scheduling conflict. She applied again this year and was accepted. Today was the first day.
Rio: My Two-legged requests that you meet her in the bored room at Command Central. Something about gotiations whatever those are. Quick, like a little corgi.
Melanie: Pancho and lefty are sharpening their teeth for a bit of pant leg and white medical coat. To say we here at furious for you is an understatement.
9:20 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio, The song does my heart good as well as the fact Boston is ahead by 2 runs now.
9:31 pm on October 28th, 2013
Bellie!…What negotiations?…sniff!…If you mean the Dollar A Day for half a Dawg thing, well….grunt!….Half is better than nuthin’…sniff!….Plus, this leaves pocketbook room for other campaigns that are still forthcoming. Like the “Feed the Giant” campaign, and sponsoring our favorite Checkpoints…sniff!… I don’t know about you Bellie, but I only have so much treatie money to spread around…grunt!…So 50% of an A-Team member is all you are going to get. No negotiations…wheeze!
9:35 pm on October 28th, 2013
Sigh . . Hop I get some sleep tonight.
BelleStarr, as your two-legged keeps the Giant and all youse dogs in line . . Why does she need leadership training?
Didn’t Dawson say something about Chinese Food?
For a Royal or two out there.
9:36 pm on October 28th, 2013
Looks like the Soxs may have it tonight, but tomorrow is another day.
Night all, sweet dreams.
9:36 pm on October 28th, 2013
Wio: My Two-legged says insists on giving the Plunderers a half-off discount on sponsoring members of the A-team. She says the Plunderers get the Friends and Family discount of $250 per A-team member. Is this different than a 50% discount from the regular amount?—I have no idea. She says she is beside herself with all the Plunderers do and have done for the kennel. I am beside myself, too.
9:37 pm on October 28th, 2013
Melanie!….How long does it take to eat Chinese food?…sniff!…Dawson got caught up in a card game and forgot all about the World Series…sniff!
9:41 pm on October 28th, 2013
Bellie!….I knew Rebecca would cave in for the 50% discount likety pug-spit…heh!heh!….She is a Leader In Training push-over…snorkel!
9:45 pm on October 28th, 2013
SiberH!….Listen to this! My friend was looking through her mail on her dresser and she knocked a $5.00 bill off which fell right onto my flat head…snort!… I simply walked over to my bed calm as could be and plowed my head under my mattress…heh!heh!…I’ve already got most of this week’s Dollar A Day covered ….woooo!woooo!…Two more dollars to go and I am golden!…snort!
10:02 pm on October 28th, 2013
WOOOOOO!….The Sox have it tonight, 3 ta 1…heh!…Now they go back to Boston Bean Town ahead in the Series by one game…snort!…Someone with a pointy head is very happy tonight, I “bet”…chuffle!
10:06 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio, Good Move. This won’t come out of your treat money because it is like $5.00 falling from the sky.
I am planning my savings so none of it comes out of my treat money. It can be done.
WOW Boston Won!!
Night All
10:09 pm on October 28th, 2013
SiberH!…I want to hear all of your stories about how you come by the Dollar A Day money without it coming out of your treatie budget…heh!heh!…I need ideas.
10:13 pm on October 28th, 2013
Go Sox!
That Big Papi is great! So is Pedroia and I think Zander B.(I can’t spell his last name) is my favorite rookie of the year.
I did go for Chinese food and was getting anxious as the talk went on and on, even though I knew I had the game recorded. I couldn’t come on the blog earlier because I didn’t want to know the score.
SiberH: Hooray for you being on our team!
10:16 pm on October 28th, 2013
Dawson!…Do not, I repeat, Do not make any plans for this coming Wednesday night…grunt!
10:20 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio: You drive a hard bargain. Drive?—when did you get your license? And, more importantly, when do I get mine?
10:21 pm on October 28th, 2013
Rio: I won’t. I have bad luck trying to record sports. Somehow the recording always stops before the end of the game. I set the tv to record for 1/2 hour after the game was supposed to be over and it shut off at the end of the 8th! I was jumping up and down in frustration until I found the game still ongoing on a different channel. Whew!
10:23 pm on October 28th, 2013
Bellie!….Sparkles will never be legally licensed….sniff!…You will always be a passenger….heh!
10:26 pm on October 28th, 2013
Dawson!….As I have said before, you are uniquely “lucky”…sniff!
Foto!…Here is a foto of SiberH that some of you may or may not be aware of…heh!
10:28 pm on October 28th, 2013
SOME Corgis are already cute enough to con treats out of any and all they see.
G’night all. We have a feeling OFA may be gloating in the morning.
10:31 pm on October 28th, 2013
SIBER!!

10:31 pm on October 28th, 2013
Goodnight!…From Pug-Town…heh!heh!…Off to my warm soft bed with all my baseball toys in all their right places AND a five dollar bill under my mattress for Junior!…chuffle!sneeze!
10:39 pm on October 28th, 2013
SiberH: You are very handsome.

Melanie: We here are very upset about the treatment, or in this case, lack of treatment you are recieving. Any twin of our paw, Tenzing deserves nothing but the best. We are in the processof perfecting a little something we like to call Revenge. Simply put, it entails Pancho distracting the perp, in this case your bad doctor, and Lefty and attacking from behind. A plan such as this requires more instinct than details, and we’re long on instinct.
More to Melanie: Savannah is going to sit on you again tomorrow so you can get some rest.
Nighty noodles to all youse.

Thanks for the SiberH photos: I remember the one Rio posted but I don’t remember the one Tupper’s Mama posted. That guy is one handsome Husky.
