Not Good News, But We Can’t Ignore It

“Usually news coming out of Canada is pretty good,” Bernie says, “but this I can’t even read.”

He tosses the paper aside, looks very upset. I go over and sit beside him.

I saw that, Chet and Bernie. I could hardly read or believe what they did.

Not sure we can read it. Can you just give me a one sentence summation of the story?

  3. Mollypop

Mom could NOT read the whole article. She warns everyone here to read only the first 7 little paragraphs and not go any further. Those 7 little paragraphs fit on our screen, so page down only if you’re prepared.

    Barb and Maggie,
Here is in essence a one sentence summary of the article. After making as much money as they could selling dog sled rides at the Olympics, the owners of 70 – 100
huskies brutally murdered them because it was more economical than keeping them.
I was too revolted to read the whole article, but that’s what I got from what I managed to read.

Thank you TYB, that is as much as we can stomach. Was this legal? No crime commited? There is a lot of evil in this world.

Thanks for the warning, Chet. Didn’t click on the article.

You know, guys, what goes around comes around and somehow, somewhere in some universe, those creeps will be repaid. Yesterday’s multi-dimensional post made my brain hurt. Today’s made my heart hurt. And we’re waiting for more ICE…

Sob…how can this happen in the so-called civilized world??? And the saddest part, Bee, is that while highly immoral and unjust, the murder of these dogs most likely is not illegal, if it was done in a medical manner. We can’t, we just can’t read the article to know about the manner. But we are praying for the release of that pack running together over the rainbow bridge, yarking and yipping, tails bannered in joy, free from the bondage of those humans who don’t deserve the devotion of a dog’s love.
And we are praying for those cruel humans to be outcasts for the rest of their lives.

My dad read the entire article (although he would not let me read it) and he said it was just horrible. As to legality/illegality, that is apparently something that Canadian authorities are still looking into. However, the most important challenge for Canadian authorities at this time is to make sure that something like this can never happen again. Wookie

They are saying the monster storm will affect 110 mil. people in the U.S.

Barb is going to the grocery store shortly and then to work. Storm is supposed to hit here around 3:00-4:00. She is going to head home when it starts. She works 3.5 miles away, so she will be ok.

What a neat picture Mollypop! I see Florida sticking out there. A friend who lives there in the winter said it’s sunny and 70. We have a blizzard warning for tonight with ten to fifteen inches of snow expected. It’s been a long time since we had that much snow at one time. The wind chill is 6.

Rio: I didn’t notice the picture of the pug again in Lie To Me. Blast! Do you remember seeing it on earlier episodes? I’ll get it on Netflix.

Rio: Yikes! Get a sweater, dude. The heck with being macho – you need to protect your underbits and overbites.
Yes! I want to see the framed version.
I saw the pug on Lie To Me – right in back of the $100. bill.

My PT place is already canceling appointments for tomorrow. That’s okay with me. We’re going to have an additional foot or more of snow tomorrow and in the valley (where they are) is going to have an ice storm.

Framed!… She had to put it in an 11X14 frame. It took her forever to find the right one with enough depth to display the project….grunt!… You can’t tell from this photo but there is about ½ inch of space between the glass and the flowers. Luckily she got it for 40% off at Michaels…cough!

Mom has nothing to say about the post. Just can’t.

Melanie, do your beasts have a place to shake the snow off before they come in the house?

I forgot the most important news of the day. After we went out to romp in the snow, I GOT LEFT OUTSIDE. I realize that I should have come when the door penned, but… lucky for me the pups finally raised a fuss and mom came to see what was going on. She tried to make it up to me by rubbing my feet, but I plan to be indifferent to here for at least an hour…or until she gets out the treats.

Day 2 of being sick. Can’t seem to get up and stay up.

I remember reading once that when the US withdrew from Vietnam, all the military dogs were killed. I felt so bad as these dogs served their country well, going into tunnels, etc. to make things safe for soldiers. We need to remember to hang on to kindness in this sometimes cruel world.

Rio, It was Ma-wah that asked to see it when it was framed. First, it is very beautiful; second, what was it you said about starting a list for people or dawgs who can’t remember things that have been posted, AND HAVE TO ASK!!!!!

We are starting to get a tiny bit of snow, but nothing major yet. They are saying we will be getting wind blasts that may create 3′ to 6′ drifts. That is 6 FEET, not inches. OMG!

Chet’s post is the first I have seen of this news. We are not reading the article. We will avoid reading any more about it if we run across it somewhere else, but, Chet, I am glad you let us know about this. This is like Vick’s dogs; the news should be spread across the entire world. Mom and I are pretty upset.

We have a dog room. It was a kitchen at one time. Now it’s a mud, snow, rain, ice dog room!

Siber – so glad you are finally getting some snow and weather you like.
Barb and Maggie – we can guess your riddle – the beautiful dog is YOU!!
Min-pin – your outfits are gorgeous – do you shop at Macy’s??teehee
Sam – have your mom rub you down with a dryer sheet. It does miracles for dry flyaway hair. And it reduces wet nose static shock too.
Melanie – Frosted Newfies come running in
Coats full of snow, wet to the skin
They run to Zoe, whom they adore
And melt in puddles on the floor.
Rio – we are grumbling about the snow, ice and cold too.
    Wolfie – is everything ok?

  58. Barb & Maggie
    4:53 pm on February 1st, 2011

Hate to say you are spot on, Rio, but that does NOT look like a normal sit-stay position to me either.

Barb got home from work early. She was going to stay till around 4:00 but one of the the agents got a call from her husband at 2:45 and he said “Go home now”. So we did. In Barb’s 5 minute drive home, there were 3 whiteout areas where she could not see at all. Scary. We are in for the duration. Snow and wind both have picked up drastically in the last 30 minutes. Chickens have food, water and heater turned on, so if we can’t get out there till later tomorrow, they will be ok. Just hope we keep the power on.

Follow up on the husky post this morning. I just read on CNN that one of the
……. that executed the huskies has filed for compensation because he’s suffering from post traumatic stress. I’ll let you fill in the blank above, I couldn’t call him a man, a person, or even an animal because men, people, and animals don’t do such things. I can’t believe that he was actually compensated. There is a long article about the incident on CNN on line. I don’t have TV so I get all my news on line or in the newspapers. Here’s a quote from the article.

The employee, who was compensated for his claim and no longer manages Howling Dog, sought treatment for depression, panic attacks and nightmares five days after the killings, The Sun reported

Rescue groups would have taken in those sled dogs. It has been done before…the way it works is a whole bunch of rescue groups take in just a few dogs each and all the dogs are safe and ready for a new home. It doesn’t have to be just husky rescue groups that take part. Husky Rescue here in NM has taken part in these kind of rescues.

My porch remains unsoiled. No matter how bad the weather gets, I still have my standards. I was HOVERING because when I sat, I discovered that the concrete was FREEZING, and I did not want to stick to it. Not sure why I didn’t just stand up. How do I take a picture down. Just hoping that all the snow is gone by Thursday morning. We are planning to take the Amtrack to get to Macy’s place. We reserved a private car so we won’t have to walk down the corridor to the rest room.
Our Royal Cousins will be flying over to meet all of you. They are working on their sign for the blimp – “Orange Boxes are just Common!”…kind of an English insult, but it works.

    Very cute.

Staff read the information in Chet’s post last night on Huffington Post. She read it all. Just couldn’t stop it was so horrible. Then she had trouble getting to sleep.
I, like Dawson, decided not to post it here. Too nasty and depressing. I didn’t reread it either.
    ISH!

So far no one has said they want to go by lear jet and dog-sled. Remember we are ready to deploy the Newfs and Mr.Husky and the jets if needed.

Wolfie, please drop by and reassure us.

I must go have dinner and then I get to go to a sewing workshop at the local community school. Lots of fun.

For a more cheerful article: Japanese doctors train a dog to sniff out cancer.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/01/cancer-sniffing-dog_n_816961.html

As Chet says, he doesn’t see how we smell anything and he can smell around corners!

(Of course, when I saw what kind of cancer the dog was sniffing for, I had visions of Cassie, the butt sniffing dog, but it turns out it’s the breath of the patient.)

That is awesome MollyPop. The Pack definitely knew that I had two wounds on my knee. They have finally stopped trying to lick it.

    B. Stover: We are not expected to have blizzard conditions. Thank goodness. We had around ten inches today and tomorrow should have twelve more.

Barb and MagPie: I hope you can get out of your house tomorrow and there are no 6 foot drifts against your door!

Jasper here. Mom made it to work today, then drove to the Detroit area, had a crapload of meetings, drove back to Lansing, said hi to her boss, and then came home to me, me, me! She stopped by the grocery store first cause she wants to make a pot of chili. She’s not planning to drive to Lansing tomorrow due to the blizzard, and boy has it started here. Lots of blowing, drifting and whiteout conditions. Mom even made me wear my sweater when I went out to pee. I don’t mind the sweater, it makes me look handsome.

You all may have noticed that we like to give you dawgs a hard time. But we do have the greatest respect for what you all can do in regards to sniffing out medical problems like cancer and epilepsy and diabetes.
Mama’s first Corgi was trained to help her know when she had a problem with her diabetes. She would jump and bark at her when her sugar levels got dangerously low. When that wonderful little dog crossed over the rainbow bridge Mama got Tupper, just to heal her broken heart. But we think the spirit of the first Corgi whispered in Tupper’s ear, because with no training at all, Tupper alerted Mama in the exact same way when Mama had a sugar crisis less than two weeks after they first got together.
Don’t you ever tell her I said this, but Basil and I think Tupper is amazing.

You guys won’t believe this, but a couple of snowmobilers just drove by! Why would anyone in their right mind go out in the middle of a blizzard? Just so you could say you did?

Our lights just flickered, but so far so good. We have the flashlight and candles out just in case.

Siber, Barb ended up putting a plastic storm on the inside of the french doors, all around the frame, and it is working fairly well. The bubble wrap would not work, because the french doors are made up of 15 small windows on each side. She couldn’t put bubble wrap on each one, and they don’t make bubble wrap sheets (that we could find) big enough to cover the entire opening. The wind is coming from a different direction tonight, so it is not blowing against that door.

I have one last thing to say about the sled dog murders…may what they did put that business out of business forever…kaput. It seems they have all sorts of outdoor activities that people pay them money to do. I think and hope that this might be the end of that business. The Mounties are on the case.

We’re late, but here’s hoping that all of you stay warm and dry during the horrible weather. Even on the Texas coast, the weather is very cold (for this area). It is not expected to get above the middle 30’s all week and today the wind is blowing like crazy. We can not even what it must be like for all you guys up north. Brrrrrrrrrrr.

Rio, you have to come to the Supper Bowl. We could have sworn that several days ago SiberH mentioned picking you up. We’re sure that he and the corgis will swing by your yard to pick you up so tell your friend to make that cottage cheese and green onion stuff. AND tell her that her gift for Pepper’s mom is beautiful. She has become very talented in a short period of time.

    Wish Wolfie would check in………

I just want all of us to watch the game and the commercials and have a good time doing just that. Commenting at all times on Chet’s blog of course about the game and the million dollar commercials …heh!…That’s all I want…sniff!….Plus, bowl after bowl of beer and Chips!…I want my favorite Chips!…heh!
