No post today – Spence in the Wild
Why? Spencer is traveling, where there’s no internet and it’s mildly wild.
Until tomorrow,
Ms. Publicist

I’d recognize those eyebrows anywhere…

Such a beautiful site. This was taken from the truck window 3 miles from Nome. From here Rebecca and I sped off to go to the finish line and wait

HURRAY!!!

Four miles from Nome. Rebecca greeted AJ with a diet Pepsi but it was too windy for him to hold it and the dog sled. But it was the thought that mattered. A quick hug and kiss and then they were on their way. But first the team tangled with the race photographer. This is the first of a series of photos.

AJ trying to get the dogs to go to the left

Thank you Ms. Publicist. “Mildly wild”…interesting.
5:02 pm on March 15th, 2013
Lines are tangled. AJ has to get off his sled and get the dogs straightened out
5:05 pm on March 15th, 2013
Photographer is free. Dogs ready to move out on AJ’s command.

Rio, Jr pondering where to look for those eyebrows now that he has run 1,000 miles. Someone had said that he might find them in Nome. I snagged those booties right off his feet and they are in a safe place.

If Spence survives the ‘mildly wild,’ he might be ready for the ‘wildly wild.’ Thinking of where he is as a mere training run leading up to a true adventure. Next year: Alaska!

Just saw a comment on live stream chat that missing team member May is on ABC News right now.
5:54 pm on March 15th, 2013
…that would be “fomerly missing” May.

Did youse see that one of Paige Drobny’s dogs died at a checkpoint after being dropped. The high winds kept them from flying him out for help. Sad.
5:59 pm on March 15th, 2013
Us dogs are pretty amazing, aren’t we?

O’Howlers: This Race Was Unusual with many scratched teams and ill mushers and dogs.
We Give Thanks to the Creator for those that make it to Nome.

We had a chill when Wookie actually posted earlier. Thank you, Wookie, for helping to take care of the team. We really miss you.
8:17 pm on March 15th, 2013
Company!…We had company and someone splurged for pizza. Beau made a complete fool of his piggish self… grunt!burp!
8:19 pm on March 15th, 2013
Puss N’ Boots!…I sure wish Wookie would post more…sniffle!…We all miss him so much. His voice is the voice of reason around here sometimes…chuffle!
9:07 pm on March 15th, 2013
Rio, I hope Beau left you some pizza.
Good to hear that it is Spring somewhere. My nephew is supposed to play the drum in a St. P’s Day parade tomorrow, and he told us not to come. Going to be too cold.
He has to wear a kilt! Burrrrr.
I hope some of you will consider watching the BBC series “New Tricks”. Zoe and I laugh a great deal while watching it. The only thing that is wrong with it is we get it through Netflix on DVD, not instant. Drama and laughter . . I can think of two things that are like that. OFA’s books and OFT in races.
TTFN. (G’Day Liz!)
9:17 pm on March 15th, 2013
Melanie!…I added New Tricks to our netflix queue because we were wondering what to watch next…snort!
9:48 pm on March 15th, 2013
Next!…What to do next…sniff!
9:58 pm on March 15th, 2013
Fish!…Here fishie fishie…snort!

Nome flight delayed so stuck in Anchorage airport until 6:15am. Loved the whole Nome-Iditarod-Snowhook experience. Still on a high. Justin and Rebecca have some great photos so I hope we can get them all together in some way so you can share the experience. Justin’s photos truly portray what he and the dogs went through and accomplished. As I was listening to the mushers’ talking at headquarters they all mentioned how tough this particular race was. The dogs got sick from the heat and never fully regained their strength and drive. The river crossings were thigh deep and waist deep in water with steep ascents on the other side. The hills seemed to last forever. Justin lost 14 or 15 pounds in the race. It was so interesting talking with him and Rebecca.

C.Hobbit, thank you for your last report. Excellent work and it sounds like you had a wonderful time. I am wondering where you will end up at the end of your move. Anchorage or Nome. . Pondering
7:49 am on March 16th, 2013
Ah Melanie. If I was even 10 years younger…
8:26 am on March 16th, 2013
We are a little confused as to how CHobbit wound up in Anchorage.
9:07 am on March 16th, 2013
She’s not in Anchorage yet. In the midst of selling her house at the North Pole.
Not sure how she decided on Anchorage.
Not sure I want to be 10 years younger. It would be a possibility if my guys stayed their ages now and I got to be 10 years younger. .
