ML, Yes to your question from last night. Zeus thought someing in the kitchen trash smelled too yummy to resist. To get to it, he had to dump the nice bin and all of the cook books stored on top.

    Greetings everyone.
We still wish we were Texas Librarians. Sounds like a great conference. Bet OFA’s paw will be sore with all this signing. And did you know that he was left-handed?
There is supposed to be only a very small percent of left handed people in the world, but we meet them all the time ( being left handed ourself). Just wondering – how many lefty Plunderers do we have?

    Greetings!

I am not a lefty, but Grizz’s younger sister is.

Last night, my “little” brother and I went to see the completely restored (sound and music) version of “A Hard Day’s Night.” What a treat! In fact, my little brother was named after Paul McCartney. Paul (my brother, not the Beatle), will be 50 on Friday. He will always be my “little” brother.

Grizz and I will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Sound of Music” by seeing the completely restored version at the cinema on Sunday. Should be wonderful!

I just saw the pictures on Facebook of the mess that Zeus made. I laughed at the picture of Zeus innocent…and asleep. (Probably exhausted after all that exertion.)

Bee – we know what you mean. Saw an interview with Julie Andrews the other day. What an elegant woman she is. She talked about how she was just an unknown actress when she was “assigned” the part of Maria – she said she was happy to have the job, never even knowing that she was becoming a piece of history.

    11:52 am on April 16th, 2015

HOH, You already said that at 9:46.

T & G, Maybe you can give us some advice. Jack and Lyla want a kitty. A cat (or two) makes more sense for their lifstyle, as they are frequently gone, and a puppy needs to be let out on a more regimented schedule. Barb suggested two brothers, so they will have company when the family is gone. Barb opened her BIG mouth and said she would buy two NFC kittens if mom and dad said OK. Now in looking on line we have seen some in the $300-$500 range, which is a little out of our price range. They want kittens, and not adult cats, so what do you suggest?

  21. Tupper's Mama
    12:01 pm on April 16th, 2015

Barb – we agree with the idea of brothers. Most of the time, boy cats are more affectionate than female – there are of course some exceptions, but the rule of thumb is males are more of the lap cat.
We of course suggest you go to a shelter and find two siblings to adopt. NFC’s are nice- but our boys came from a shelter because the people who bought them for BIG bucks couldn’t handle the activity level. (NFC’s NEED to be able to climb and get up on top of things… like refrigerators and china cabinets)
We would look for kits that were 6 months or up – no kitten trauma, but still very playful and young enough to bond. And, if they aren’t the typical adorable baby kits, the shelters often reduce the adoption fees, or do a twofer if you take siblings.
Can’t wait to hear how you do. Keep us in the loop!

    12:13 pm on April 16th, 2015

Thank you. I did not know that about the climbing. Just saw yours and loved them. Also Josh had said he would prefer a large breed.

Duh…..what is a NFC? I agree that male kitties are so in tune with their people and loving. I say that in honor of my Cat over the bridge, Greyson. Still the best cat in the world in my heart.

    I am a righty.

Zeus, You had best think about hiring Meashka as your attorney. Since you are family, she might give you a discount on your fee, or maybe not.

Tupper’s mom, Take lots of pictures when you visit Teddy and Zeta. You take good pictures.

  26. Tupper's Mama
    12:51 pm on April 16th, 2015

ALR – NFC=Norwegian Forest Cats – a large breed that has a longer double coat, small paws and a propensity to climbing, playing and cuddling.

Barb – we also recommend kits in the 6 month range because by then the personality is established, and you can tell if it is a lap cat, or a “don’t-touch-me” cat or a playful/hunter type.

Zeus – good advice about Atty Meash. Gilly says she is the best.

  27. Billy's Buddy
    12:59 pm on April 16th, 2015

Barb, we also agree that two male cat siblings are the way to go. Our favorites were Bill(our buddy) and Joe. We adopted them from our local shelter and never once regretted it. They were a Himalayan mix.

T&G: Hooray for your mom and dad.

I know some on this here blog are fans of cozy mysteries, me included. This winter I started to read a couple of series by authors formerly unknown to me, and have enjoyed both of them. The first is A Quilting Mystery series by Mary Marks and I found it really clever and entertaining. Maybe our quilters on the blog would enjoy it. The second series is A Key West Food Critic mystery series by Lucy Burdette (Roberta Isleib)and enjoyed those books, too. What’s not to like about cooking, eating, quilting, and sleuthing?

BB – we have read some of Mary Marks, and agree. Good books that are well told stories. Haven’t see the Key West books, but we will look for them – we love anything to do with the Florida Keys.

Here are some words of wisdom I heard years ago while working with a bunch of good ole boys: Deny, deny, deny. And don’t say “I can’t remember” say, “I cannot recall at this time”. If you cannot recall at the present time, you can always recall later.

Barb, another good breed of cat for kids is the Ragdoll. I’m not sure of their size, but they are beautiful cats that don’t mind being picked up and toted around by kids.

  36. BooBear

Also, Maine Coon cats are a large breed (or often a mixed breed) that are probably more common than the NFC.

If books with a quilting theme are amongst your favorites, I can heartily recommend anything by Sandra Dallas. I started with one of my all time favorites The Persion Pickle Club. And I have read randomly amongst her titles for years now and never been disappointed. Not all are directly about quilting, but she usually works some in here and there, along with Colorado figuring in. Her stories are compelling and not unlikely to let loose a tear here and there, for there is always a few great life lessons within. I ‘read’ books on CD in my car as I travel back and forth to my Mom’s assisted living facility three times a week, and just finished New Mercies…each book seems like one of her best!

ALR – Mama says thanks for new ideas. She is such a wuss – she loves mysteries, but just can’t handle the dark and gritty ones. Since she reads at night, usually with one of us curled up on the bed with her, she prefers gentler mysteries that don’t give her nightmares.

Agree, B & S. Nothing with vivid violent scenes. Barb has a vivid imagination, and those images stay with her.

We are just finishing up Miss Julia Throws a wedding, and have really enjoyed this one. Some of her comments about her Spanish gardener and some of her religious and political comments are so funny. She calls the gardner Raymond, and when her young “step son” tells her his name is Ramon, she says, “Oh you know I can’t speak that language”.

Yes, Midnight is Pop’s other “horse”, and Mom’s is Blue Bell. Those were the colors they were called by the manufacturer. Mom and Pop thhought those sounded like good horse names, so those are the names they lovingly call them. The ‘rents are silly.
