“Why not?” says Spence.

“Leaves,” says Admin.

“Don’t tell me you’re going to be out there with the leaf blower while I’m trying to work?”

“They also serve who only stand and leaf blow.”

Good morning, everyone! L-e-a-v-e-s. Mom says that is a dirty word. Not sure why. You saw Daddy Dawg’s way to remove them. We have a leaf nazi in the ‘hood. He is out almost every day with a sucking machine picking up l-e-a-v-e-s. We just bring them in and crunch them up.
Welcome “home” Nana. Oh, deer in the road, must go bark.

    Good Morning to All

That speech makes me tear up. So many lost.

Leaves . . Our neighbor hates our trees. They lose their leaves in a storm and they end up on his property. Snicker.

Deb was out and did a whole bunch of raking yesterday. Can’t tell today.

    Almost time for acupuncture.

NANA is almost home. Scott’s home is way better than a rehab or hospital. Soon she will be comfy home.

Good morning all – another lovely, albeit colder day here. Gramp is grumbling because even though we don’t have any leaf shedding trees in our yard, we have to keep raking and raking and raking. We do have a neighbor with trees and an aversion to raking (or any other kind of yardwork).

On the bright side – the house is almost done in her new coat of lovely colors. The shutters go up Thursday as the final step. Then we will take some pictures.

And Nana is FREE! And HEALTHY! And going HOME soon! Twirl, twirl, bounce, twirl – the Happy Corgi Dance has commenced.

    Mr.Husky,
We don’t rake leaves here either. It took too much work to get some. There are not a lot of trees in North Dakota. All the trees were planted here on purpose by the early settlers. I love to look at the leaves on the grass. The only thing is they are all brownish tan. Very few beautiful gold/orange/red leaves. But at least we do have some leaves.
Eventually they blow east to Minnesota. snicker.

Back from acupuncture and just heard from the nurse that my doc has everything he needs. I don’t need to yell! Woo Hoo! I have also heard that I’m going back to meet with him and the head of the group there. Looked that guy up and he and his team at the Clinic have written a cookbook called “Cooking Through Cancer”.

It is not to prevent cancer or cure, but how to cook so that you get the best nutrition possible while under going all this stuff. It should come here on Thursday.

    Cool.

Leaves. We have a heck of a lot of leaves in Western MA. Make for beautiful trails in the woods. Good mulch for the lawn. Just don’t like to get mean looks from the neighbor’s.

His house is close to the road. Used to be a mill. The town made a asphalt covered small ditch in front of his house. Otherwise the rain or melting snow gush into his basement. Our leaves tend to mess up his ditch.

  20. Siber-H
    12:42 pm on November 19th, 2013

That is our attitude Staff. Our leaves blow to the Texas panhandle. The ones that hang around seem to grow brittle and decay fast.

We are stopping in for a brief hello. Barb went to bed at 7:00 last night and stayed there till 8:00 this morning. She was up letting me out, or coughing or throwing up every hour. She says she has not been this sick in years. Now trying to sip some water, and then back to bed.

Glad Nana made it out and will be at Scott’s for awhile. Sounds like a safe place for her to be.

We do not rake leaves either. We have one giant maple tree near the house. The only other ones close to the house are evergreens or walnuts. Not a lot of leaves from them. The maple leaves are fun to wrassle in, and Mom likes to ride her horse thru them. This year, we picked up some to use on our raised beds; however, most of them blew on out of the raised beds. Most of our leaves blow thru all these open fields to other open fields. In the meantime, corn husks from the fields on the other side blow to our yard and fields. We all believe in Share and Share Alike. snicker

  25. B. Stover

Siber-H: Why rake leaves? Enough of them can keep light and air from grass. Leaves can also cause mold which kills grass and they attract insects and grubs.

You are welcome Mr.Husky. It was fun to paw our noses at Natty. heh heh heh.
I have been having a fun morning. First Mr.Staff got down the dried catnip and shredded it all up into catnip dust. He did it inside a brown grocery bag so it didn’t dust up the whole house. (Staff was insistent on that point. She thinks there is already enough dust around). The he put the catnip in a container to take to Minneapolis. Then he put down the bag for me me me. I have been inside it. Whooo HOOO!
After that I had to chase that fat old AbbietheKitty around the house. snicker. She is not a catnip kitty. sniff. Staff had to pick her up to protect her from me.
    boooring!
They tried to put me in time out (Under a laundry basket) but I refused to be timed out. sniff. I am keeping that bag under close observation. AbbietheKitty better not try to get in it.

Stover, Thanks for the good scientific answer. This explains why we don’t rake leaves here. Most of us have no grass…can’t afford the water for it plus it would be a waste of the water we do have in this country. The powers that be frown on us having grass.

    Leaves.
This fall I mentioned that perhaps I should rake some leaves to put atop the tender lavender plants so they could survive the winter. We don’t have many leaves in our yard so the man here went next door and raked the neighbor’s leaves! (I didn’t want the leaves that bad.) So I put them on top of the lavender then I read that lavender doesn’t like to be covered in leaves – neither does it like to be covered in snow so tough luck for the lavender. Double bad luck as it is now covered in both and bound to stay that way until May. Oh, the neighbor’s children did have fun jumping in the big pile of leaves and pictures were taken.

Melanie: Hooray for the paperwork coming through. One less worry.

Barb&Maggie: That sounds like a terrible night. I’m glad BooBear’s Mom doesn’t have the same thing and hopefully Macy’s Mom is okay too. Feel better soon.

T&G: I can’t wait to see your colorful house pictures.

Good luck next Monday, Melanie. We think you are in the best of hands at Lahey Clinic.

Boo, Barb said she loved The Great State of Texas, and doesn’t think it was Texas germs that got her and certainly not the food. She was exposed to both flu and a cough sinus thing before her trip. She thinks the stress of flying and being tired probably brought down her resistance. Or it was germs on the plane. Anyway she will be good as new before too long.

We’re back. Mom does flea/tick/heartworm/mosquito meds 7/24/365 whatever that means. Oh those things she puts peanut butter on, then gives us treats? We Love it. She says it is preventative, whatever that means. Oops, she’s heard us in the kitchen standing on the food barrel…gotta go.

Kat, A couple of years ago, mom used the treatment on me for a couple of months and she hasn’t had to use it since. The same is true of my Siber friends, Molly and Rudy.
The climate we live in is much different than yours.

I do eat a monthly heartworm tablet year round.

Hmmm, no squirt stuff here. Not good for me. We use garlic powder.
Morning garlic Newf breath is nothing to sneeze or short at!

Hi Riö. You are right. I’m about to hit the hay.

    Rejoicing in Nana’s return!

I was just about to mail the card to Nana that got returned from the hospital when I realized that she still wasn’t “home” yet. Don’t know whether to go ahead and send it to her home address or not.

I am leaving in a couple of days for southern California. I haven’t been there in six years and my sister and I will be going through the family home. My sister and her family visit So. Cal. a lot. It will be a sentimental trip for me but I am looking forward to a dose of warm weather. Already worrying about Sadie being boarded.

CHobbit: How long are you going for? Enjoy the sunshine and warm weather.

I’m watching something on Lincoln and Gettysburg but I’m going to turn it off. I need comedy.

O’Howlers: I am a big believer in busy people having help with cleaning More people ought to squeeze it into their budgets if possible.

Dawson: I will be gone 1.5 weeks. It is a good place–expensive–but not the kind where dogs are just in kennel runs. I fear they will be over-crowded at 45 dogs for the Thanksgiving holiday and Sadie will feel lost and abandoned. For some reason she still doesn’t drink water when she is there half days 2x a week and drinks her big water bowl dry when I take her back home. The owner says that it is like some people not wanting to go to the bathroom at other people’s houses. Poor Sadie

We are heading to bed too. Making it to 9:00 tonight, just like the grownups.

C Hobbit, have a great trip, even though it will be an emotional one.

Barb only puts flea and tick stuff on me in the summer months. She has never found a flea on me, and my yard doesn’t have the kind of trees that ticks like.

Dawson!…I did not glean that information, but I do see he is very involved in training the Snowhook teams…snort!snort!…Is Philip the guy who ran one of the races last year with the Snowhook dawgs?…grunt!

    10:48 pm on November 19th, 2013

Rio: Yes. The facebook page I saw was titled Running Toward the Iditarod so I thought he may be trying to get enough qualifying races to run but he could just be running the Snowhook dogs who we know are running to get picked for the big race.

I know this is off subject, but just had a weird bit of serendipity:
I took a book out to read; a second hand one I had picked up at a booksale. A letter fell out. The envelope was old and yellowed, and was sent to someone I had never heard of in our town but the return address was from Anchorage. I thought that was kind of cool, and then I looked at the name of the letter writer.
It was sent by my mother’s cousin.

No date on the letter and the post mark is very faded, but he was working in Alaska and was telling his friend that the money was incredible. He was paid $4.00 an hour and soon would be getting a raise to….wait for it….$5.00 an hour! Woo hooo.

Wonder if the cousin ever left Alaska. Project for tomorrow.

Cousins!….Wow! Remarkable that the letter was sent to someone else by a relative and the book landed in Golinka’s paws. She might have cousins living in Alaska…snort!…Now wouldn’t that be sumthing?…heh!

Netflicks!…Hey, guess which movie showed up in the mail today?…heh!…”Lincoln”. What great timing. But we do not have time tonight to pop it in an watch it – soon it will be bedtime…grunt!

He said earlier he can’t get this game on tv. I’m not telling him the score. The Blackhawks are still ahead of the Aves in the standings so he’s happy.

    Good night for reals.
