No Post Today
“Why not?” says Spence.
“Why not?” Admin says. “How about on account of this new computer set-up I’m installing? Have you seen these stupid diagrams, obviously designed to be understood by travelers from another galaxy? After that, if there is an after that, we’re hitting the road.”
“Sorry I asked.”

BooBear, I am sorry I misunderstood about Gus.
Gus, hang tough, big guy. You can do this, I know you can!!
RIO! I just felt like saying that.
Belle Starr, Sparkle shopping is on the books. Have you checked your two-legged? With her new pixie haircut, she may be hoarding sprinkles….
Ruff Rider Teddy, I can not wait to hear your Teddy voice! It will be alot of fun to talk to you on theis here blog!!!
CHobbit, I haxe extra Trazadone if needed.

Rose soooo gooood to hear from you:) Glad you are ok.
B&M: You are so ambitious with green beans and tomatoes. Neighbor gives mom veggies from her sis’s garden. We did pickled jalapeños last week. That makes #2 son and Old Fart happy.
Taking adopted son and his partner out to lunch for: 1)son’s b-day 2) their 7th anniversary and 3) S-I-L’s b-day. Mom is going to do a serious NAP before then.

Good (hot, humid, sultry) morning from day 3 of the Really Long Show. We probably won’t be in touch much today. They are selling wifi here, and if you don’t buy, their jammers make Internet access very iffy.
Supposed to rain later which is supposed to bring cool dry air for the weekend. Here’s hoping!
Rose, glad you are back
Teddy – there is nothing cuter than puppy woofs, so let us hear from you
Melanie – got peaches? tee hee
HOH – while Daddy Dawg is away, will the Herd play?
Have a grand day all.

Happy 151 birthday Debussy. Clair de lune is one of my favorite pieces. I went to a Garrick Olsen solo concert in Ann Arbor once and after he was finished playing the audience clapped for more. He played Clair de lune and the audience spontaneously sighed. (Thank you Rose.) The Wikipedia article is very thorough and near the bottom there are samples of his music.

Darn! Someone already did the Google Doodle. Thank you. And thanks, B.Stover. Great link.
After the marathon peach day yesterday, my back has decided that it has had enough! I am resting my back, and trying to remember to keep my shoulders level. Two years on a cane? Weird back issues.
Peach Cobbler is delicious. Blur on over for fresh peaches and a taste of Cobbler.

Morn’n and a quick hi while I have the wifi.
Admin: My advice is to ask an eight year old.
10:51 am on August 22nd, 2013
Admin. Drag a 16 year old off the street to help with the computer. It does not embarrass my mom when she needs to do this.
Macy, Good news you posted last night.
C.Hobbit, Let us know how Sadie does on the new drug. We have friends in Colorado that have the same car isues with their dog, but we know drugs work differently on each individual.

I woke up to Tenzing in bad shape. I’m calling the vet now, but please offer prayers for my best bud. My hope beyond hope is that this just looks worse than it is—I will explain more later.

Oh, no! We will be sending healing thoughts your way, Tenzing.

Transferring Terrific Tenzing Trayers . . NOW!
Wöökie’s Dad. Interesting . . Newfoundlands have been on some of the banned lists. Drives us nuts. Some seem to be written by The Nation Within’s haters.
I believe that even Corgis are on a list somewhere.

Siberian Huskies have appeared on those banned lists.
Wookie’s Dad, Thanks for the link to the article.

Status update on Teddy RR. Just had another vet visit this morning for round two of his vaccinations. The vet was very pleased with his progress and overall health. He did accidentally get nipped on the upper nose by another dog a couple of days ago, but it is healing nicely and no apparent ill effects. And he now weighs in at 25 pounds, and seems to be growing daily. Won’t be known as Little Teddy much longer. Will hopefully have more pictures to post in the near future.

According to the article, the bully breeds are most often the ones banned. We knew about pits, but Bull Terriers? Really? And why would anyone ban a Newfie, a gentle giant?

Tenzing, hang in there, guy! Saying purrs and prayers for you.

I was out in the garden releasing a monarch this morning and saw I have to get in there and pick tomatoes too. Some had big peck holes in them. I really did not want to feed the birds my tomatoes. They are having enough fun with the Sugar Snap Peas.
Maybe I will do that after lunch.
here is a picture for Amalia and Leonard
Gus and Tenzing. Love you. Keeping you in my thoughts today.

Update on Tenzing: I woke up this moring to a puddle of blood on the bedroom floor. I found Tenzing downstairs covered in blood. The first floor of our house looked like a crime scene with blood throughout on the floor, walls, doors and couches. Upon further inspection, the blood appeard to be coming from Tenz’s mouth. Before I took him to the vet I tried to clean him up a bit; he went from a white dog covered in so much blood parts of him looked black to mostly pink. The vet wants to run diagnostic tests on him including blood work, clotting tests and testing his liver. The vet thinks this is part of his condition and not a separate issue aggravated by his condition. I should be able to pick Tenz up this evening. Thanks for the prayers.

Smoochers: I think it is time to huddle under the quilt and care for all those we find there. There are others like my mama—she is refusing to let her emotions get the better of her and has poured herself into cleaning and scrubbing—who have not found their way to the quilt, yet. Drag them there if you must. There are so many that need nuzzles and head bumps right now. Macy, if you can spare some dainty licks, it’d be appreciated.
My mama keeps staring at her cell phone waiting for the vet to call. The phone will not ring no matter how much she stairs at it.

Luna!…Give me her phone number and I will call her on my little Go-Phone…snort!

Staff, Some Monarch questions. Will the ones you released travel all the way to Mexico or South America? How long do they live? Do they eat? After you said that their faces fell off we were wondering about eating. Do they eat pollen? I know the caterpillars just eat milkweed leaves, but not sure what the adult does. Will they come back north to lay their eggs next spring? BTW, we loved your video. Your garden is beautiful.
5:22 pm on August 22nd, 2013
Will the ones you released travel all the way to Mexico or South America?
Maybe, see below…
How long do they live?
How long they live depends on whether they are the ones who go to Mexico. If not they mate, lay eggs, and die. If they are the last hatch they will travel to Mexico, hibernate till Spring and then return to the southern US. There they will mate and die. Their offspring will hatch, fly further North, mate, lay eggs and die. Their offspring will hatch, fly further North, mate, lay eggs and die. Up here in North Dakota and Manitoba we usually get the 3rd or 4th hatch depending on the weather. Usually we have two or three hatches once they get up here. It allows them to build up numbers. This year we will only have this one hatch and it is very slight
Do they eat?
The monarch butterflies eat nectar from flowers. The caterpillars eat milkweed leaves. The chrysalises just change. No eating.
Will they come back north to lay their eggs next spring?
If this is the batch that goes South they will come up to Texas and lay their eggs and die.
I learned most of my Monarch info at Journey South http://www.learner.org/jnorth/monarch/
You can also go to the monarchwatch.org website.
Boy I hope I got all my tags right. Rio will roast me if I didn’t.
5:39 pm on August 22nd, 2013
That was all very interesting. One more question, if you don’t mind. Why only one hatch in your area this year?
6:13 pm on August 22nd, 2013
Do you remember the bad storms and rainy/snowy cold weather this last spring?
They happened just as the monarchs and many birds were migrating. They killed off many of the monarchs who were already week from hibernating all winter. It stalled the migration and we didn’t get any monarchs until 6 weeks later than normal.
It also delayed the milkweed growth so that those monarchs who did live couldn’t find milkweed to lay their eggs on.
I usually get monarchs by the 15th of June and have milkweed a week before. I didn’t see a single monarch until the 20th of July. I gathered my first eggs on the 26th of July. 5 to 6 weeks late.
A single generation can take as short a time as 3 weeks. You can see that we lost 2 generations right there.
Here is one article about it.

Staff, I remind myself everyday.
Having caught up with “New Tricks” and having to wait for the next season to start, I was looking through Amazzzzzooo Prime and found a BBC series from 1999. “Heat of the Sun” is excellent. We will be watching the rest of the episodes. Now I have to find out how many seasons there were.
Takes place in Nairobi after WWI. Police story with plenty of twists and some humor.

RIO! Please run like a little pug and check your SDD when able.
7:46 pm on August 22nd, 2013
Staff, That was a good article, but also sort of scary. The Monarch decline reminds us of the bee problem. People around here are saying that they haven’t seen hardly any honey bees all summer. Is this a sign of a bigger problem with the enivronment? We are afraid it is, but hope it is not a harbinger of doom.
7:48 pm on August 22nd, 2013
HOH, Got to teach them youn’uns a thing or two! ( I would not be able to do that with Scrabble. I sit there with my 3 letter words and people run right over me.)
Staff, that link brings back memories. OTAS had (and still has) all of this C&H books.
He would actually read them to YSAS. Amazing.
Anyhoo, about two years ago, I got him the bound edition. Dog, did that make a hit.

Night, Rose. Pawrayers for Gus and Tenzing especially. Mom says thinking in multiple time zones is tiring. We can’t figure that out.
9:27 pm on August 22nd, 2013
HOH, time zones are weird. As far as I am concerned it is always now.
The front that is coming through is hurting my joints. Going to bed.
I hope the storyteller was able to get to the top of the ferris wheel. I am thinking of everyone who has a heavy heart for what ever reason.
I will be thinking of Tenzing and Gus as I go to sleep.

Thoughts!…I am thinking of my pals Rebecca and The Giant and Bellie, and Lefty and Pancho and Mother Luna, and Charlie, and of course my most wonderful Junior. Thank you, Staff for butterfly releases. There’s something amazingly hopeful about their migration flights.
Sleep soundly, friends.

Staff!…I really loved your video…snort!…Did Alice run the video kamera?…heh!…I bet she did. I really bet she did…snort!…Your garden is amazing compared to my friends motley attemps….chorkel!…I really wish she would take some photos of her green tomaters. Looking at Barb’s tomatoes today made my friend weep…sniff!sneeze!

Rio: If you need a good laugh, you should see mom’s son’s ‘mater plant. Potted, cherry ‘mater, 1 stem, 3 feet tall and ONE blossom on it 🙁 It is really sad.
All are in out pawrayers tonight. Nighty night.
10:14 pm on August 22nd, 2013
Going to bed early here also. It was a busy day today. And since Mr.Staff is once again at a Bluegrass Festival I had to do the dishes all by myself. At least I leave the sink clean. He does not feel that cleaning out the sink is part of doing the dishes.
sniff.
I hope Tenzing and Gus are pain free and all who need it find room under the quilt.
I hope the Storyteller had a good ride on the ferris wheel.
And I hope my flutterbys make it safely down to Mexico and back next Spring.
Nighty Noodles and Morning Liz.

Tomaters!…We were all out there tonight watching her water her two tomatoe plants…snort!…She was hopeful because more tomatoes have appeared but they are all still GREEN…heh!heh!…She says she thinks they will ripen up before we leave on our Sept. trip to Iowa…grunt!…I have my doubts, but my duty is to be the pessimist, especially during the growing season…gruffle!
10:28 pm on August 22nd, 2013
Rio, Baeb does not like ferris wheels either. She remembers being stuck at the top as a teenager, and the person she was riding with was rocking the car back and forth. Still makes her stomach do flip flops!
Hope all those under the quilt are OK.
Off to bed.
10:30 pm on August 22nd, 2013
Barb!…Wait! What do you do with all those ripe tomatoes??…snuffle!sneeze!
10:39 pm on August 22nd, 2013
I’m back home from spending the day at the vet office. They thought about keeping me over night, but in the end let my Lady take me home. I had my Lady lift me into the car not because I’m too weak to do it myself, but because it is a sure fire way to get a hug. She gets covered in me, I get a snuggle. It’s a win-win.
My red cell counts dropped by over 10% in the last month, and I’ve lost 10% of my body weight. We’re wait, wait, waiting for more lab results. Right now, the vet is treating me for a GI ulcer. If I don’t improve in the next couple of days, then the vet suspects liver failure or another long name of something my Lady can’t pronounce. I may have clotting issues or I may not. Right now, we’re playing the waiting game, too just like Rio’s Friend. Yeep!—I hope she doesn’t have liver problems or clotting issues. I’ll share my pills with her if she does. They sent me home with six new medications to add to my other medications. I’ll be dancing with the giraffes for a long while.
My Lady and I want to thank you for all your prayers. I could feel it while I was at the vet. I also think I felt a scritch between the ears from the Storyteller.
Gus and I are snuggled up together. I’m keeping an eye on him and he’s keeping an eye on me. Instead of being his pillow, I have offered to be his mattress. He’s curled on top of me. When I inhale, he exhales and vice versa.
10:45 pm on August 22nd, 2013
OMDAWG!…I am so glad Mr.Tenzing is home….sniffle!…My friend says if one of us had to spend the night at the Vets she would not be very happy or get any sleep at all…wuffle!…I do have strong hope and faith that Mr.Tenzing will pull through this and be his Regal Self very soon….wuffle!

Rio: I’m a sled dog of a certain age. I think our kind age better than the two-leggeds although my Lady says we age too quickly.

Home from day 3 of the really long shew. There were thunderstorms in the area this evening, so no ferris wheel rides were po9ssible. But the Storyteller disappeared for a while around 9 pm, and came back smelling like sage smoke. And we think we saw a few stray dog-type hairs on him.
We just read all the day’s news, and we will keep all of you in our thoughts.
Macy – woo hooo for your Dad.
Staff – you truly are a deer – thank you for taking care of little flutterbys. And the meek shall inherit the earth….
Rio and Rose – slow down you two – you are making me dizzy

It is not the zombie hour yet, and I wanted to leave a note for Tenzing Under The Quilt.
Tenzing, I hope all the meds help you, and having a liver problem myself, I thought I would tell you of an herb that I take that also helps canines with liver issues.
It is called milk thisle. One of few herbs that has been scientifically shown to work.
It might help you. Your twolegged might have to check it out with the vet, to make sure it won’t interfere with something youare taking. I know it helps me.

Melanie: Thank you for the information on thistle. My Lady is a shamrock girl, but she said she won’t say no to anything that will help me. She has to give a daily update on my health to the vet for the next few days, so she can ask about it then. If you have liver problems and I might have liver problems means we are like peas and carrots. My Lady say you have a great voice. That must mean I have a great bark. She also says you have great hair. That must mean I have a great coat. Head bumps to my twin.
My Lady is going to sleep on the couch with me tonight. I don’t think she’ll do much sleeping. Me?—the giraffes just arrived for the freestyle session. Wheee!
Wose is in my prayers, too. I’m as big as she is. What do you know—I have another twin.
Okay, I hear the music starting and the giraffes are warming up. Nighty noodles.

Thought of Tenzing and Gus all day. Hoping they both get feeling better sooner rather than later.
Arrived in Anchorage after 8+ hours calm and collected instead of ON MY LAST NERVE and HITTING THE BOTTLE. I will tinker more with the dosage but it looks like Trazodone really did the trick. Instead of on her feet panting like a steam engine and crying the whole trip, she mostly sat or laid down and panted softly. There was maybe a total of 15 minutes of whimpering during the trip. So I enjoyed the drive and feel very relaxed.
When stopped for road construction, if it is going to be a 20-30 minute wait, I walk Sadie; if it is just 10 minutes, she stays put. Here is a photo I snagged. Note: this is atypical–a first actually–but it still needs to be noted and celebrated. My baby, sniff.
