“Why not?” says Admin.
“We’re on the road,” Spence says.
“But it’s not a long road. And besides it’s a road we know very well.”

Good Morning All
I had to shut down the computer yesterday because of storms, so…
Happy Birthday, Dima!!! (a day late)
Staff, That picture of the Siber you posted is FUNNY!!
We love it. Thanks
10:37 am on August 6th, 2013
We still miss those harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel.
Good morning (officially) everyone. Mama is off to load the van for the show. Then she comes home and gets taped to her work table again – the great and wonderful Fire Mountain bead place package arrives today, and she needs to get a LOT of work done with those supplies before they leave tomorrow morning.
Mama is starting to believe in Bella’s philosophy – she will sleep in April too. Maybe. After all, the show season starts again in May…..
11:43 am on August 6th, 2013
Thanks for all of the Happy Birthdays, Guys. Staff, where were you hiding with that camera?
11:53 am on August 6th, 2013
Good morning, almost afternoon.
Gloomy weather here today. Jack is coming for the afternoon, then over to his folk’s for BLTs for dinner.
Looking forward to hearing Melanie later.

Hello All!
I have a download of the interview. Now if I can just try to figure out how to show it on the computer . . I have finally sent it over to the large computer to see if that helps.
I have been stuck with needles this morning. Always a good way to start the day.
(That was a great picture, Staff)
12:10 pm on August 6th, 2013
Jezze Louise, Okay, I’m listening to it. But, it’s on the email. I have to figure out how to get it off the email on to the computer.
This seems to be a large project.
Oh, I do not sound like an idiot.
12:16 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melanie – we KNOW you don’t sound like an idiot. We can’t wait to hear this.
Van is packed. Clothes are packed. Dinner is planned and getting ready. Life is (kinda) in control.
whew!
12:16 pm on August 6th, 2013

Maaaaaa-cy….where arrrrrrrre you?
12:26 pm on August 6th, 2013
MELANIE!!!! You did GREAT! Everyone here at the house was listening, and Gramp said you sounded “vibrant and smart and funny”. High praise indeed.
12:36 pm on August 6th, 2013
ummm…We don’t know how to find it. Where do we go on that site?
12:37 pm on August 6th, 2013
I’ll say it again…Melanie you did GREAT!! We really enjoyed the interview and learned from it. I am sure the listeners that don’t know a thing about Newfs also enjoyed it.
Ha, I bet some politicans wish they could give half as good an interview.
12:39 pm on August 6th, 2013
Fellow Sibers, I just waited once I went to that website and the interview came on without my having to do a thing.
12:41 pm on August 6th, 2013
Great interview Melanie!! Did think it was funny that you kept calling them Newfoundlands, and the woman kept saying New Found LANDs back to you. She never did get it. Or is that how they pronounce it in Canada?
Melanie, we have read that the Newf Lewis and Clark took on their expedition did some hunting and brought down game, which they then ate. We can’t picture the Newfs in our family doing something like that. They don’t have prey drive, and they are not fast. What is your take on that?
Good luck at the shew, Amalia. Good weather, nice customers who spend tons of money.
12:42 pm on August 6th, 2013
Carpola! Siber, the techie neophite (sorry, Buddy…Mom’s term, not ours) got it but we cannot???? !!!!
We think it’s because ours goes to their mobile site which does notgo to Melanie’s interview.
12:43 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melanie: The interview was fun to listen to. I love it that Franklin won’t go in the pool without Zoe. Wonder why Rose doesn’t like the pool.
12:44 pm on August 6th, 2013
Rats! Mom can’t listen at work but we know you sound great, Melanie!! We will listen as soon as she gets home this evening. Is this the movie of all the dogs headed into the pool where the squirrel moves quickly to get out of the way?
Happy belated b-day, Dima! Loved “both” pics of you.
Rose, you were missed while you were lurking. Glad you are feeling better and that Belle Star is dressing up your office!
1:00 pm on August 6th, 2013
I can only imagine what Belle Starr is doing to Rose’s office, but the only thing that matters is that Rose likes it and is happy with it.
Rose, We are glad you are back with us. You are always missed.
1:04 pm on August 6th, 2013
Gus&BooBear, I missed youse guys too. How is your pop doing?
Siber-H, Thanks for those nice words. I miss you all too. Sometimes things get a little overwhelming, and a nice cry and the Rose quilt are necessary.
1:08 pm on August 6th, 2013
We saw Simon & Garfunkel at the Garden 7 or 8 years ago. If that weren’t enough, their surprise guest stars were the Everly Brothers – sort of a theme going here.
1:16 pm on August 6th, 2013
Terry: What a fun evening!
1:22 pm on August 6th, 2013
Wake Up Little Susie!
1:23 pm on August 6th, 2013
O’Howlers – you are right about the ipad going to the mobile site. That happened to me too. It comes on fine on my laptop.
Melanie – great interview!
1:24 pm on August 6th, 2013
Wqke up!
1:42 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melanie!…I can’t listen to your interview until my friend gets home from the busy-place….grump!
1:43 pm on August 6th, 2013
I watch the video of them at the garden on Youtube. It is marvelous. I keep thinking I would like to get a DVD of it to watch on my TV. Larger is always better. Heh.
(Can you tell I don’t have a ‘smart’ phone?
The Siber picture I put up last night was posted on the Vintage Sewing Machine facebook page by a friend who collects old sewing machines. snicker. Dogs posts fit in everywhere.
Rose I know how lovely a quilt feels when the sadness comes. The one given to me by a quilting friend is very comforting.
I am off to run errands and then quilt till late tonight. Y’all have a good time till I get back.
1:45 pm on August 6th, 2013
Have fun Staff.
We’ve both been sound asleep

Rebecca!… How many photos can be submitted for each item?…grunt!…Like a Front and Back shot for example…sniff!
2:04 pm on August 6th, 2013
RIO! What happens when an auction item has been left in the care of Rebecca?
2:31 pm on August 6th, 2013
Thank you guys for the support.
Barb&MagPie, Newfoundlands were a more active dog than our house pets. They were used to pull the fish nets from boat to boat, rescue people from the sea, pull sleds and carts.
Stories . . One Newf pulled the fish cart for his partner by himself. He taught himself what shops and houses to stop at in order to deliver the fish.
Another would fish like a bear! Then bring the fish home for supper.
They were used in WW11 (I think) in Alaska. It was on an island that we had a base. The weather was terrible during the winter, and the men would follow the dogs home to safety.
During the 1800’s (?) a Governor of Newfoundland decided that there were too many dogs and started killing the breed off. A small group of Newfoundlanders, English people and Americans brought the breed back.
Whew, good thing or Zoë would have a LOT to say.
2:35 pm on August 6th, 2013
I’ll have to listen to the interview later but want to post this photo about the dreaded autocorrect:

2:38 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melanie, We can picture the cart pulling and the water rescue. We saw film of a dog named Mas who jumped out of helicopters to save people. He was from Italy, I think. Still have trouble picturing them running after deer or other large game and bringing them down. Can’t remember what type of game the L & C dog hunted.
That is sad to think that the breed was almost killed off. Crazy guy!
2:40 pm on August 6th, 2013
And this one is for T.C.:

2:49 pm on August 6th, 2013
Rose!…I’m sure Rebecca has it all under-paw…heh!heh!…She can photograph the item, send it to Melanie, get it back and then do all the rest of it…grunt!…It’s not like she is busy or anything…sputter!
2:59 pm on August 6th, 2013
Rebecca busy, of course not!
Melanie, did a little more research on L & C’s dog Seaman. Evidently the group cousumed over 260 dogs on their trip, but not Seaman. Probably some were purchased from Native Americans along the way. Only thing I could find about his hunting ability is that he caught swimming squirrels. That makes sense, but I am sure I read that he killed other kinds of game along the way.
3:29 pm on August 6th, 2013
Swimming!…Squirrels?…grunt!
4:20 pm on August 6th, 2013
I know Rio, sounds weird, but that is what the article said. Sounds more like otters, doesn’t it? Or maybe small beaver. Evidently he once had to have a leg bandaged due to a beaver bite.
4:29 pm on August 6th, 2013
I don’t think that squirrels like being in water.
4:57 pm on August 6th, 2013
Squirrels!…I wonder if they do the breaststroke or the backstroke?…heh!
5:08 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melania – you are a wonder 🙂
5:08 pm on August 6th, 2013
OMD. I don’t have auto correct – Melanie!
5:11 pm on August 6th, 2013
Barb&Maggie: It was probably an otter, corked.
In Canada, Newfoundland is pronounced new-fun-land with the emphasis on “land”. And they should know. Heh, heh.
CHobbit: Laughing at the auto correct error. I find those hilarious.
Melanie: The interview was fantastic! You were funny, happy, friendly and love Newfoundland and Newfoundlands. I’m surprised they didn’t make you an honorary Newfoundlander on the spot. Wonderful.
5:25 pm on August 6th, 2013
Rio: Squirrels do the dog-paddle but only to save their lives. Otherwise they stay out of water. (They don’t even like water drops on them.)
5:31 pm on August 6th, 2013
Couldn’t paly Melanie on ipaw so went to pos. Wwon’t play there either. Mom has been cold all day with a headache. Just checked, her temp is 100.7 🙁
She has fed us but is getting under the qui’t NOW.
5:38 pm on August 6th, 2013
Oh Dog, Squirrels and I have something n common.
5:51 pm on August 6th, 2013
Siber-H, you’re making me laugh.
5:54 pm on August 6th, 2013
Otter, corked. Dawson, you made all 3 of us laugh!
O.K. This is embarrassingly funny: we received a package from Rio eons ago. We followed directions, and did not open it. Suddenly, yesterday Mom remembered that she was in fact awaiting something from Rio. So she was allowed to open the package afterall! Peep peep bauk bauk cluck cluck !!!! Cockadoodledoo!!!
6:13 pm on August 6th, 2013
HOH, get under the quilt NOW. I will send you the link by email.
B.Stover. Ros likes water and swimming. She does not like the stairs.
Swimming squirrels. OMD. That’s one we haven’t made up. They must have had some flooding. Barb&MagPie, our dogs will chase small animals. Ros has eaten a vole. And a friend of mine’s Pack caught themselves a few rabbits. If they re hungry they can move.
Dawson, I would be pleased to become an honorary Newfoundlander. Do I really have to kiss a codfish?
I am wearing a jacket. In the house. It’s wonderful.
6:17 pm on August 6th, 2013
Mom is home and she let us get on her big computer so we could hear Melanie’s interview. Girl, you were wonderful!!! What a great spokesman for the breed, and also for doing things for, and with, your dogs! Also, Mom said that we can visit you in New Found Land when we are living in PEI.
6:18 pm on August 6th, 2013
And one more thing: Sharon, GET UNDER THAT THERE QUILT!
7:01 pm on August 6th, 2013
Ok – Mama is on the last push to get stuff done for the “Show That Is GOING To Be Wonderful”. She just loves getting Fire Mt packages. Half the time she doesn’t remember what she ordered, so it’s like Christmas.
Now she just has a few hours to create with her new treasures.
We are going to say goodnight to you all now, and we hope to report in from the show.
8:08 pm on August 6th, 2013
RIO! Are you and Siber-H watching your Rockies while they play in the Big Apple?
8:31 pm on August 6th, 2013
umm Rose, I cannot watch the Rockies games because the receiver for my satellite tv system went kaput. They are suppose to come fix it Thursday morning. Because we never watch much tv, the cheapskate I live with says we do not need more than one receiver in the house. Mom did not plan for tv emergencies like this one….no Rockies games.
9:18 pm on August 6th, 2013
Rose!…I am watching the game now…sniff!…Someone finally came home for the neighborhood get together and eat thingy…grump!
Howlers!…I never told youse guys not to open your little box – I told Sharon not to open hers till another one came…grunt!…I can’t believe you did not open your boutique item till today. But this does explain why I never heard from you about it…wheeze!
9:20 pm on August 6th, 2013
Howlers!…My friend says she thought you hated them and that’s why you never mentioned them…sniff!
9:23 pm on August 6th, 2013
Heh heh! Rio, Mom loves loves loves them!!! Us? Eh…
Mom always follows instructions. She also has a great memory, but it is very short. heh heh!
9:37 pm on August 6th, 2013
Just got back from Josh and Jessica’s. In a bad mood, need to go to bed. Will be back tomorrow.
10:04 pm on August 6th, 2013
I am also going to sleep.
I have been watching the program “River Monsters”. I am reminded of the Great White shark that was caught in the town above us when we lived on the coast.
Yikes!
Barb&MagPie, sorry you are in a bad mood. Just wanted you to know that during the time period of L&C’s trip, beavers were around 6 feet long.
Hope sleep brings healing to those who need it.
TTFN
10:08 pm on August 6th, 2013
MagPie, is there anything we an help you with? I’m a Smoocher just so you know.
10:35 pm on August 6th, 2013
Mood!…Now Barb knows how I feel almost all the time…grunt!
Rockies!….Lose-it to the Mets…grump!
10:43 pm on August 6th, 2013
sob, sob, sob
10:48 pm on August 6th, 2013
SiberH!….It was close!…grunt!….That EY Junior – damn him!!…gruffle!
10:53 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melanie: I finally had the opportunity to hear your interview. You did so good! I’ve said it before—and now I have proof—you have a great radio voice. Yeep! Twirl! I knew her when!
B&M: I hate to hear you’re in a bad mood. Quilt up. Get some sleep. Tomorrow is a new day.
10:59 pm on August 6th, 2013
HOH: Before I forget, tuck your mama under the quilt.
Wose: Pancho and Lefty offered to keep the you-know-what auction item safe for me. I told them no.
11:04 pm on August 6th, 2013
Melanie does have a great radio voice.
night all
11:05 pm on August 6th, 2013
A curious thing. I had no idea this happens.
http://www.realnews24.com/the-suns-magnetic-field-is-about-to-flip/
11:31 pm on August 6th, 2013
We’ve had a day of New-Found-Lands, swimming squirrels, announcements, and flipping suns. What a day. I’m beat and the crack of dark tomorrow morning is going to come way too soon. Nighty noodles.
6:01 am on August 7th, 2013
Snowbella: Good idea keeping those rascals from the you know what!
7:57 am on August 7th, 2013
Maggie, I can blur on out there with Her Highness Princess Sam, and smooch you back to a good mood. Or, if not a good mood, then at least I can make your face and body good and wet.
