Rose, Barb here. So far I really like this new book by Picoult.
I know you are a fan of hers. I like this one much more than House Rules. I found that was very interesting, due to the details about Aspergers. However, I found myself not really liking the mother or son. I thought she built her life around the special needs child to the point of being unfair to her other son. Plus I could never see myself doing the things she did, like dressing in a particular color on certain days, or making all foods the same color to please him. I found that very annoying. Maybe that means that I would not be a good caregiver for someone with those problems, but I was like “Get over it!”

Found a Larry Millett book at a garage sale. It reminded me that I meant to look for these Sherlock Holmes books while I was in Mpls. It was the 3rd book so I went looking at 1/2 price books for the first two. No luck, but I did find a 4th book in the series.
Dad wanted his hot cereal this morning. I asked him what the ratios of oats and 10 grain cereal were to the water and got it all cooking in a pan. They were not the right measurements. I had to look it up on dishlickers and adjust. Now I have enough hot cereal for tomorrow as well as today.

I’m going to move from ski country back to Amherst/Williamsville where Sam lives. The apartment is on the top of a hotel that is still being built. Yesterday Sam’s girl and I were able to get in and take measurements. Shortly after we left, a car crashed into the building.

The building will be completed Sept. 1 if cars will stop crashing into it.
I’m not selling my ski slope place. The rentals have been great and I’ll be able to rent the unit I’m living in also. Most people rent at a resort about 3 to 5 days for vacation so there will be lots of time in between those rentals for me and my family to use it too. I won’t be doing the 60-mile drive at least once a week.
My big decision is about whether to do Safety Patrol.

I’ve been living here since it was built in 2009 but I’ve been on Safety Patrol since 2002. I drove from Amherst, did a full-day shift, and drove back again. I might go to our meeting at the end of September to fill out the papers, then I don’t have to make a decision until the snow comes around the end of November.
I’ll be 72 next month and a little voice in my head says not to ski and risk a broken bone. It’s hard to think of not being part of this group.

MagPie – It was sweet Little Sammie who blabbed my age. Molly would never have done that.
My apartment is hardly a penthouse. The building has 6 floors and I am on the 5th.
I’m so spoiled here in ski country. I have a unit in a condo hotel that has a restaurant, spa, exercise room and heated-all-year-round outdoor pool. Skiers like to be outdoors in the pool and hot tubs. Condo hotels look like regular hotels except each unit has an actual owner. The units are furnished so they all look alike.
I want to continue the spoiling – my move back to Amherst will have all of the above too, but the pool is indoors only. Those city folk would not like an outdoor pool in the winter.

My blood pressure is 110/70 and pulse 68. That gardening work does some great stuff for the body.

We went to the new Bark Park that opened Saturday. Met a lot of our guys in the under 30 lbs section. Annie was rude, as usual, but Belle and I made lots of new friends.

Gah! Just got back to North Pole. What a day.
First: The 7-hour trip ended up being 9-hours. I had driven an hour on the road when I remembered that I forgot something and had to go back.
Second: The sedative that I gave Sadie didn’t work at all this time. I even tried an additional pill. Sadie panted, cried and whimpered the whole 9 hours.
Third: When I got home, I was reading this blog and discovered that it was Thursday–I meant to come home on Friday!!!! I came home a full day early. Gah!!!
