“Why not?” says Spence.

“Why not?” Admin says. “Have you looked at the lawn lately? The quote garden unquote?”

“I was thinking of kicking back, sipping coffee, putting my feet up.”

“Think again.”

Gooood morning everyone! I like the ides of kicking back, sipping coffee and putting my feet up. Maybe I’ll just lurk over here in the corner of the quilt for a bit.

    “Installing Alaskan Summer” snicker

Feet up and relaxing. A Dream Unrealized.

A general contractor was here today to give us ideas on the fence. It is not going to be as bad as we thought. Youngest nephew (going to be 21 next month) was here to learn what to do. First up? A Sawzall.

I’ve always wanted a Sawzall. Zoë says she’s a bit concerned about that. Heh, heh, heh.

Next is a walk/run in a new place. Will let you know how that goes.

Then the BATTLE AGAINST ASPARAGUS BEETLES will commence.

I’m going to try kicking back, putting my feet up and drinking some coffee.
Turtleman was supposed to give me some relief today but I guess since we are having a flash and bang thunderstorm he decided against it. Hmmmpf!
    Masquers: Installing Alaskan Summer…hilarious.

Yesterday I put on some music from the 30’s then wandered upstairs to rummage through pictures of when Mom was 80. The phone rang and I could hear someone leaving a message so I hustled downstairs and it was the flower shop reminding me that I had some flowers there for pick up. Okay, I’ll be right over. There was Dad, sitting in his chair, listening to the music and bawling, “It’s Maggie’s birthday”, he blubbered which started me off too. “I know, Dad. That was the flower shop. Nancy got us some flowers in memory of Mom.” “Don’t turn the music off”, he said. We had a good cry then I biked over to the flower shop and cried on all the staff as I got the lovely dark purple irises, one of Mom’s favorites. Staff, they are opening up beautifully today. She would be pleased that her rhododendron tree is in full bloom.
I came home and the s-i-l came for Friday night cards. She beat me and I modeled how to be a good sport while losing. I do hope she remembers that lesson for the next time we play cards.

Turtleman just called. He’s on his way. Hooray!

    10:55 am on May 18th, 2013

Dawson – my Dad says I should share this with you. When my mother left this world, it was with in the company of butterflies. They have been our symbol of my mother ever since.

Now, we have told you that Basil and Sage love to chase and eat moths (ick) that get into the house in the summer. And we have told you that Sage likes to go outside on his leash and lay in the grass.

The other day, while we were outside, a lovely butterfly came dancing over to the Sage’s grass patch. At first, I was going to go grab Sage so he wouldn’t get the butterfly – but then I realized that he was just watching it, fascinated, but not stalking. The butterfly flitted all around him, easily within his reach, at one point, hovering within inches of his nose. Then she danced off in the breeze. That’s when I realized that I was crying.

Those we love are still with us, visible in the butterflies, purple iris, and black birds in our lives.

Sending you hugs, and a hankie.

We can kick back and put our feet up today because we do not have a lawn. Spence could get a couple of goats for lawn mowing, but he might never get his mail if he hired lawn mowing goats.

The Snowhook dogs will have fun pulling tourists around on the glacier, and the tourists will be very impressed because they are Iditarod dogs… good publicity for the Iditarod. I hope the two-legged employees there tell the tourists the dogs are Snowhook Dogs…good publicity for Snowhook.

    Darn it.
I lazed around eating and reading and then called the post office to see what stupid lack of hours we had been reduced to. (9 to 10:30 a.m.) I had 15 minutes to get there with my package. So off I went and never checked the blog until I returned. Sigh.

Anyway the package is off and I will try to do better if there is a next time. I am truly just not a morning person.

However I do remember that it is not ‘unquote’ it is ‘end quote’. Anyway I think I do. Do I B?

  24. B. Stover

Were we supposed to quote something? Capola.

Tails from the garden . .

Asparagus now has garlic on the crowns and eco-friendly dishwashing detergent, diluted in water, sprayed on the stems and flowers. Do not try to use garlic in spray bottle. It causes bad language when it clogs.

Do not attempt to transplant flowers when the ground is as hard as rock. Use the soaker hose to loosen soil. That is happening now.

Figure out how to use the sprinkler before you turn it on. Now, in my defense, there were no directions, and my brain works differently than people who design things.
    I am very wet.

Before I did the sprinkler I moved two HUGE rocks by leverage.

I am now going up what poison ivy looks like.

We are pleased to announce that we are bringing up the Little Detective Agency right. Just this morning we witnessed Chet employee all the tactics we have taught him thus far. As our Lady gave tummies to Little, Check plunged into a pocket on our Lady’s coveralls. He grabbed the contents—in this case some twine—and took off running. He only failed one element of his efforts—he got caught and our Lady snatched the twine right out of his paws. We are so proud of him. Such a quick study is the little laddie.

Tupper’s Mama. I’m glad you noticed the quilting pattern– another special thing Debbie put into the quilt. As to the photos — the real secret is that there is special “fabric paper” that you put in a computer printer and then print the photos (from jpeg files) directly onto the fabric paper. Rio – those aren’t dolphins – they are Beluga whales! Their heads are small for their bodies. Under the water, those whales are HUGE. But they are very gentle.

SiberH!…I loved when Chatwood got a standing ovation…snort!…We here missed some of his pitching as we had to go for a walk before it “might” rain…grump!…Doesn’t she know this is the Giants Butt we are kicking tonight?…heh!heh!

Barry!…I hope Barry Zito does not pitch for the Giants. I love that guy, but he does damage to our team…gasp!

Thanks to Golinka I was able to sign on and look at the quilt. A comforting and beautiful work of art.
I saw some new and “old” Plunderers on there!

Those are Beluga whales and they are huge. YSAS and LLL called and told me about their experience. Let us just say they had a blast. Belugas have squishy heads and their ability to make sounds can make the platform that YSAS and LLL standing on shake and shudder! Cool.

I am going to sleep now. Tomorrow? Zoë and I are going to see “Spamalot”. My niece’s fiancé is in it. She worked on the costumes.

I looked at every quilt block. Wonderful work everyone. And I love the hearts quilted into the top. My favorite one was from Blou I think. Although I liked mine a lot also.

We were working hard outside today too Rio. We have the second raised bed almost completely full. We will need maybe another half hour of work to get a little more dirt in it. Then to decide what goes where. It is hard to make sure you don’t put tomatoes and potatoes in the same place every year. I have a chart that goes back to 1989 and shows where stuff went each year. Mr.Staff forgot to do that in 2011, the year I stayed in Mpls most of the summer but otherwise it is all down on paper and held with a clip.

Our first male Ruby-throated hummer came in yesterday morning and the first female was seen this afternoon. The sugar feeders were ready for them. I need to buy another one because I confiscated the one for the north porch and put it on my new east deck. Mr.Staff is annoyed. He likes to sit on the north porch and watch them.

Goodnight all. Digging in the dirt tends to make me tired.

We received word from AJ. He and the summer-job-dogs have made it to their destination! He will get the dogs settled, get some rest and then head back home to my Lady.

Dawson: Thanks for the jeans. Questions were starting to be asked like: Where are my favorite jeans? and Tenzing do you know anything about my missing jeans.

Siber-H, The Pack has put their treat money together and have bought you the following. Mattie picked the color because she thought it would look striking with your coat, the boys picked out the convertible

. I will send it along as soon as we can find Frank and Rosalind. They took off in it and haven’t gotten back yet. The rest of The Pack is peeved. They also want turns.

You will have to pull the seat closer to the wheel when The Pack is finallly through playing with it gives it to you.

Melanie: oo la la. So what is the latest with Siber and Natasha? I have lost track but it seems like Siber was recently mostly interested in her car. If he got his own, he would be a hot dog on the loose!

C.Hobitt, we have not heard from Natasha. She must have gone undercover again.

Last time she came by? Franklin and Mac were following her around, drooling more than ever. When she called them, “Frank-a-poo” and “Mac-a-doodle”, they both rolled over on their backs, wagged their tails and grinned like the duffases they are.

This was too much for the Ladies of The Pack and the last I saw of Natasha was her elegant rear end as she four footed it out of the house.

I heard her start her car, but she kept turning the key, and the rasping noise it made continued as she sped away.

The Ladies came in muttering about female dogs that are no better than they should be. The evening was spent with the guys getting the cold shoulder.

    Sigh . .
