    Good morning.
Siber, Team Tsuga Sibes are staying in the middle of the pack so far!
Plunderers, we need to get the booties taken care of so we can start sponsoring Snowhook dogs…what do youse think?

Howlers: AJ fed the team earlier and is now preparing to harness dogs. It is before five in the morning, but they are decided to go. Annabelle’s are perked up from her good ornamament place on the bed. You can take the dog out of the lead position, but you can’t take the leader out of the dog.

Decided should be excited. Good ornament should be hood ornament. Gah! Damn Ipaw. I’m going back to sleep.

Thanks for letting us know as we live vicariously thru Team Snowhook. Who does he have in lead now, Bella?

  5. SnowBella
    9:03 am on December 29th, 2012

Annabelle’s children Twig, Quigley and Elim are all trained to run lead. Louisa Mae started training in lead last year. Charlie and Fritz decided to be lead dogs this year. Bjorn has also proven to be a lead dog. Natty can run lead, too, but her brother Bishop will run every position but lead even though he knows all the commands. Junior ran in lead once, but he didn’t know it.

Louisa Mae, Charlie and Fritz of the Little Women litter are all Annabelle’s grandpups.

Howard, Bridger, Orion and Tenizng had a paw in it as well, though I’m told by Luna a lady doesn’t speak of such delicate matters.

Good morning and good luck to the team today.

Moving slowly here this morning. Barb started with a sore throat and sniffles on Wed. Now this morning her voice is going, going, gone.

Barb: I hope you start feeling tip-top soon. Lucky for us, we can hear you on this here blog just fine, voice or no. When do you have your knee surgery?

  11. OleyHowlers

Barb, that sounds like the way Mom started on Monday. It took her 4 full days to get back to tip-top..

    9:39 am on December 29th, 2012

Thanks Oleys, she is about day 3, but I think this is going to last a few more days.

Bella, the surgery is scheduled for Jan 29th. Some appts are lined up for pre surgery and a seminar on what to expect. Barb does NOT want to do this thing, but she has no choice.

We just Googled Nighty Noodles, by Bill Harley, and read the lyrics. Quite funny! Macy says Nightly Noodles, which brings up an image of pasta filled evenings.

    We want some T & G stories!

    We want stories too!

But first we need to start planning our Celebration of Joy!

What do youse guys think about meeting up in the Magical Kingdom of Stovernia?

I am beginning to wonder if it isn’t Halfway between this world and the world beyond?

Wolfie, we will leave that up to Bee, since she would be busy making pies for all of us! 🙂

The rents were hoping to go to a wolf sanctuary tonight for their Full Moon tour. But with the snow coming down, and more forecast for later, we told them they won’t even be able to see the moon.

All her bags are packed she’s ready to go
She’s sitting there right by the door
She hates to stay just to say goodbye
But midday is breaking’ it’s getting ready to snow
Ambulance’s waitin’ he’s blowin’ his horn
Already she’s so anxious to go

So lick her and wag some tails
Head bump her that you’ll wait for her
Drool on her so she knows you’ll never let her go
Cause she off to Rehab and she wants to go
She wants to come home again you know
Oh baby, she needs her pack!

Fellow Sibers, Same goes for Mike Ellis and team.
WOO HOO It’s the Season of the Sled Dog!
It was 8 degrees at the dog park this morning. This is more like it.

T&G I am waiting to hear about yesterday, but, yes, recover first.

Great news! Zoe is getting out of the hospital!

  25. Staff
    11:36 am on December 29th, 2012

I think the longest minutes are the hours you spend waiting for the paperwork to clear you to leave the hospital.

My favorite memory was when I told Mr.Staff, several years ago, to go spring my father. Mr.Staff went there and got him and came back. No problem.

Then, later the nurses called all upset because no one had signed the paperwork or done any of the discharge discussion on how to take care of said Dad or anything at all. Mr.Staff just went in and took him. Heh. Fastest leaving of a hospital ever!

  48. OleyHowlers

Mom has been taking Airborne, and she took it at the first sign of her sore throat on Monday. But she still got sick. However, she never missed on thing during the holidays so far: she was at Christmas Eve party, she ate lots of Christmas dinner, and she went to thhe movies to see Lincoln. She only stayed home 2 days and that was due to snow and/or ice. So maybe the Airborne helped after all.

  53. SnowBella
    3:03 pm on December 29th, 2012

Rio: I thought I mentioned Junior’s debut in lead on this here blog. A few weeks ago, our old gangline snapped in the middle of a training run, leaving the team without a front end. The lead dogs and swing dogs—four in all—continued to run. I happened to be out in the kennel and four dogs sans twelve of their fellows and musher ran up to me in perfect formation. Gomez and Junior were running in first team that night, the position directly behind the swing dogs. They ran ‘lead’ the rest of the run that night. They did quite well. Junior had no idea, but we figure sometimes if you’re nervous about doing something the best approach is not to know you’re doing it at all.

Oleys, If you were to walk around to the right side in the first picture, would you see the view of the house that was on your Christmas card? Is that considered a rock or stone house? They built homes of rock/stone around late 1800s-1910 in northern Illinois. Ours are not as pretty though, because they used a tan limestone type material. Yours is much more colorful.

  78. OleyHowlers
    5:05 pm on December 29th, 2012

Yes, B&M. The front of the house is around to the right. The door in the picture is to our enclosed breezeway, which runs between our back door and the door to the 2nd floor of our “summer kitchen”.
A lot of the old homes here in Oley are stone farmhouses, built with field stones. The coloring is from the iron in the fields. Our entire township is on the National Historic Register, which helps place a lot of restrictions on building new homes or undermining the historic nature of the old homes. Being lovers of history, Mom and Pop love the way our valley has been preserved.

Bella, Rebecca might not get into it as much as Barb, because she actually lived that part of history. Kennedy was the first president she took much interest in, as she was in high school during his campaign.

Oley, We like “stone house” rather than “rock house”, but some people around here insist on calling them rock. There are a lot of them out near historic Galena, in the n.w.tip of the state on the Mississippi River. Rock house sounds like it was something out of the Flintstones.

  86. Annabelle
    5:57 pm on December 29th, 2012

B&M: My Lady may have not been alive during that time, but has love history. AJ and she have often said we were born in the wrong time. She would love to have been around in the Klondike gold rush to see the dream of some and the greed of others. She trusts your judgement in books.

Howlers: I believe it was Bruce Lee who is shown in the documentary. For all I know, King could have given Smyth a ride, but I’m not aware of it. I told my lady to post on Facebook about the failure to check facts before spending the money to produce the documentary, but she didn’t do it. I stopped paying attention as soon as I got my belly love. Have I mentioned, I think the world of my Giant? He was so good to me on the trail—always tried to listen to me. You have to love that about him.

Nice to read all about yose guys. Very tired. YSAS and I had lunch out and then got to the train station in plenty of time. Got the car filled up, got the dog food, went to the grocery store, drove 20 miles at 30 m/h because of the snow. Fed the dogs and then found out they had eaten candy canes. No splorting though. Gee, I wonder why I’m tired?

No snow here, but it is cold and cloudy. Dad took a load of wood to his mom’s house, and my mom has been putzing around, making veggie soup, cleaning and catching up on laundry. A very nice day, indeed. Most relaxing, especially the time spent in front of the wood stove playing Fishdom.

We have company coming tomorrow and then they are spending a few days in Yosemite. Mom doesn’t have to work until January 4th!

Candy Canes!…That’s no big deal. I can imagine a whole lot of other stuff that could happen when Melanie leaves the Newfs alone in the house…heh!heh!

Giant!…I wonder how the 100 mile training run went early this morning…grunt!…ONE HUNDRED miles is just a little further than our dreaded brutal walk…wheeze!

Rio: The Giant was planning on going past the first checkpoint of the Race, Yentna. His plan was to camp before heading home. Maybe you can offer the team pointers you’ve learned from your brutal walk.

Wolfie, we have not read Twelve Tribes. What is it about? Also, what is Fishdom?

    8:20 pm on December 29th, 2012

Giant!…So the Giant and the A-Team are still out there running or camping…snort!…Very kool!

Pointers!…Sure, I can pass along a bit of knowledge to those guys out there on the trail…sniff!…Stop as often as you can and pee and if you are outta pee, stop anyway and pretend you are peeing. It buys time so you can catch your breath and rest…snort!

I’m starting to think there is a big difference between a well trained race team on a training run and a pug on a brutal walk.

Rio: I don’t expect AJ and the team back until late tonight. TO pass the time, Annabelle is sleeping on the couch—her favorite.

  97. SnowBella
    8:35 pm on December 29th, 2012

Rio: I forgot to tell you something. A couple of nights ago, AJ and the team returned from a training run. Junior was on the run, too. AJ gathered Junior in his arms and said, “I love this dog. He is a good boy.”

  98. Riö - The Evil Pug
    8:43 pm on December 29th, 2012

Junior!…Awwww! Who can resist Junior? No one! Not even a Giant!…snort!…I have the highest of hopes for my Junior. One day he will run in the Iditarod and finish…snuffle!

  99. SnowBella

I have the suspicion Junior might have a better chance for the race team this year than Whitey-Lance.

    8:49 pm on December 29th, 2012

Whitey!….Rebecca, now you are raising my hopes and dreams a little to high…snuffle!…Don’t say anything you really don’t mean…sniff!sob!…What trouble has Whitey Lance gotten himself into anyways?

  101. SnowBella
    8:55 pm on December 29th, 2012

Rio: I’m not saying anything I don’t mean. It is too early to tell who will make the final cut, but Junior has been training better than Whitey-Lance. W.L. isn’t any trouble at all.

  102. Riö - The Evil Pug
    8:58 pm on December 29th, 2012

Training!…I wonder why Whitey is not training as well as a newbie…sniff!…This is very interesting. What’s up with Whitey Lance?

Ok, so you want to know about the family gathering. First, you must remember that Mama’s favorite book is “A Christmas Carol” and the opening lines of that book are: Old Marley was dead. You must remember that, or nothing wonderful can come of the tale you are to be told”.
So, in Mama’s version you must remember that her old china set was dead. It needed to be replaced. All except for the dessert dishes, which were rarely used, and were therefore in good condition. They were put downstairs, and used for another purpose.
So, Aunt and Uncle showed up. These are the strangest of the relatives who thankfully live in Florida for most of the year. She does line dancing (badly), and prattles on constantly about the latest “skit” they have created a dance number around. So far she has been:
The Wife of Burt Reynolds (no, he wasn’t there)
Salomé with the 7 Veils (oh my dog!)
A Hawaiian Princess complete (depending on your point of view) with grass skirt
Esmerelda, Mistress of the Dark (sans cleavage)
    And Heidi – don’t ask…

And husband, Ichabod with diabetes, plays the ukulele. Badly. Aunt mentioned that they had forgotten to bring the uke along, Uncle was going to play and sing “Nightengale” for us. Once again, we gave silent thanks to the fact that they live an hour away, and couldn’t just run home and get it.
As a joke, Gramp gave her a feather boa, with a note that she could use it in her act. Upon which time, she went into “The Stripper”, complete with bumps and grinds and shaking parts of her 70+ year old anatomy that probably didn’t need the exercise. She looped the boa around our brother’s head, and pulled it back toward her.
Our nephew was eating his dinner. He is a BIG, strong, healthy 24 year old and he can EAT. But for some reason, he didn’t seem to want any more food.
Mama put the desserts out and told everyone to help themselves. Ichabod stood next to the tray of petit fours, shoveling them in, one in each hand, and totally ignoring the sugar free butterscotch tarts made especially for him.
Basil and Sage joined the party, and were most sociable. Kind of unusual for them – they aren’t big on company. But Sage curled up in Aunt’s lap, and Basil lay on Uncle’s feet….until he took his shoes off, for reasons known only to him.
These people stayed and stayed and stayed. We wanted so much to go to bed, and they just stayed and stayed and stayed. Aunt, sitting with Wrotten Kat on her lap mentioned that the dessert plates were just lovely and just the right size and had a nice edge to them. But they didn’t go with the rest of Mama’s china. Nope, they didn’t.
Then Dad said that was because the china was new, and these were from the old set, and nowadays we used them for cat food.
Soon – very soon after that, we had the house to ourselves again. It was a Christmas Miracle.

Gramp got a lovely argyle sweater in soft warm wool. And a box of his favorite candy
Dad got a gorgeous, cream colored fisherman knit sweater with a shawl collar, and a fabulous pair of sheepskin slippers.

Mama got a bath mat and a pair of oven mitts.

Dad says we have to clear up two things:
First – when we had company this past summer, we did NOT use the cat dishes for dessert.
Secondly -Mama DID tell people that if they wanted to get her a gift, she would love anything from a kitchen store, or Bed/Bath etc.

    10:37 pm on December 29th, 2012

Heh. Poor Golinka. Your mistake was in not being precise. When giving ‘hints’ to Mr.Staff I cut the page out of the catalog and circle the item wanted. I also tell him that he has to order by a certain date because he has been known to order on Christmas week and be surprised that it is not in stock.

Sometimes I just order it and make him wrap it.

    Sometimes I wrap it myself.

    Heh heh heh

Howlers – listen to Staff. She knows what she is talking about. We looked up fishdom, tried the free trial, got “hooked” , bought the whole dam package and have been sitting around in our pajamas playing it over and over.
But we do have two lovely aquariums.

I am trying to decide if I want to spend $6.99 on an aquarium. It sounds as if I do.

I am so happy that Zoe is one step closer to coming home. We here have been worried.

I am shaking my head at the behavior of the Royal’s guests. A bath mat?
    Really? Really?

Mom had a great Christmas. First, she bought herself an iphone5. She loves it. Second, Dad got his 15 year gift from work and let mom pick something out of the catalog. She got a 5 piece set of le cruset cookware. Very cool.

Mom has gone through a good part of the Big Fish catalog using the 1 hour free play, then pouting when the hour is up.

We are watching the Wild Wings Bowl featuring Texas Christian University, currently kicking some Michigan tushie. Sorry B and Jazzy. University of Texas stepped on some Oregon beaver tails earlier. Mom liked the days when bowl games were not named for companies. I guess this one would have been the Sun Bowl. or not. In fact I am not even sure why we are watching this except that dad has control of the controller, heh-heh.
