Good morning. Very nice post, Spence and Admin. Our thoughts are also with Staff and Dawson and their family.
But on a happier note:
Today, the Top of the World sled race begins, with Mike Ellis and Team Tsuga Siberians entered.
In 8 days, we get the Knik 200 with our very own Team Snowwhook! Wow! The holidays are still happening, and race fever is starting!

Heavy sigh.
But I have an idea. So many of our precious loved ones have crossed the bridge this year, and our hearts ache. But not for them. Because how can we grieve when they are living in the Glory, without pain nor sadness nor fear. They are experiencing the Best of the Best.
Therefore, I, Wolfie Wigglebutt, propose the following:
That on December 30, we Plunderers celebrate and honor the lives of those who have crossed.
Let us share good memories, cry, and laugh and eat until we splort. That we dance and howl and yeep.
Let us remember ALL who have crossed. Brandy and Mollypop and Fargo and Rio’s friend’s Grandma, and mom’s nephew Josh. ALL. Regardless of the year. ALL.
And who knows…..maybe, just maybe, for this one night, the veil will be lifted.
What say ye, Plunderes One and All?
9:32 am on December 27th, 2012
Thank you Wolfie.
Good morning all.
9:33 am on December 27th, 2012
Wolfie: I think that is a wonderful idea. I just heard 48 woofs, 1 Yeep and 1 honk in agreement.
9:46 am on December 27th, 2012
T&G: I thought that you were referring to your sentence, “to go to the grocery story.” You are correct about “too violent.”
Thank you for the invitation Mollypop’s Mom. I love the snow-on-the-head description. (And sun is not needed for swimming!)
9:51 am on December 27th, 2012
Grump!…Is it Saturday yet?…growl!…Someone get me a bowl of cawfee!…grunt!
9:56 am on December 27th, 2012
Rio: Did you wake up on the wrong side of the baseball toys this morning? I hope after a bowl of cawfee, you have a great day.
9:59 am on December 27th, 2012
We are in, in memory of mom’s cousin DeeAnn and uncle Sam.
9:59 am on December 27th, 2012
We join in the expression of sympathy for Dawson, Staff and their family.
Wolfie, yes we will join in on Dec. 30th in the Celebration of Life.
10:08 am on December 27th, 2012
The Prof and I also express our deepest sympathy to Staff, Dawson, and their family.
Wolfie, that is a wonderful idea. I’m there….in memory of friend Zelda, and my awesome kat, Kelly.
10:12 am on December 27th, 2012
Belle Starr, are you there?
I saw your post last night. There are only 62 more days until I come to live with you. (whispering) If you can hide me in a good place, I will stay forever. I will be a good worker and good tummies giver.
10:13 am on December 27th, 2012
Bah!…Humbug!…grunt!
10:23 am on December 27th, 2012
Rose, as soon as Mommy gets my flamingo out of its hiding place, I’ll have her take a picture. She took it away because she thought I was too excited. I wasn’t.
10:23 am on December 27th, 2012
Wose: Not only am I here, but I’m up top right now. 2 days! Really? I can’t believe it. I will try to find the best hidey-hole for you.
10:30 am on December 27th, 2012
Princess Sam: Can you ask your mom to look for my dog in the hiding place?
10:32 am on December 27th, 2012
I am in on the celebration of life also.
Great idea Mr.Wolfie WB
10:43 am on December 27th, 2012
It is my expert opinion that Wolfie is one of the most thoughtful Wigglebutts I know.
10:48 am on December 27th, 2012
Bellie, I will have Mommy look for your dog too. Her hiding place has lots of stuff in it, but I can’t get at any of it. Your dog could be in there.
10:49 am on December 27th, 2012
Wolfie, A Celebration of Life is a very good idea. We here have lost so many that we don’t even want to list them. Too sad.
Here is an article about friends of ours whose goats were stolen (and recovered) yesterday.

There was another similar story about a dog being reunited with his owner in NYC. A thief stole a Cav. King Charles Spaniel the day before Christmas from outside a store in Manhattan. He then tried to sell it on a street corner. One suspicious women tried to buy the dog but the thief would only take cash. She went into a store and charged some items, then immediately returned them for cash so she would have enough $$. By the time she got back, other people were calling the police and the thief was arrested. The lucky pup was chipped and was reunited with his people on Christmas day.

Bella, 8 days until first race, right? Woo Hoo! How are the traing runs going?

Wookie’s dad here:
I have some sad news from here in Chevy Chase. After fighting lymphoma for nearly two years and being in renal failure for the past 13 months, our brave boy Wookie finally lost the struggle yesterday afternoon and crossed the rainbow bridge. His decline came very fast, just over the past couple of days, and Debbie and I were with him these last few hours here at our home where he died. And while we are incredibly sad, we also have such wonderful memories of all of the joy that he brought us over the past eleven years, as well as all the joy he enabled us to share over the past four years on the blog.
Even though he is gone, I know how much he loved all his friends on the blog, and how special the past four years have been for him. The laughter and smiles, the shared sorrows and the all-encompassing comfort of the quilt are just part of the memories that he will cherish always, as do we. And then there are the grand adventures too, from all the secret missions that Agent 00Wookie understood, assisted by so many of his blog compatriots; the quilt for Spence; the Dishlickers cookbook; and the auctions and all the other activities undertaken for our adopted Snowhook Kennel.
I also know that, even in his dog angel status, he intends to come back from time to time to assist in new missions as necessary or help out at auction central or just to make sure that no one misbehaves too badly.
Lastly, while we are sad here and will miss him dearly, it is very important to him that we just remember all the incredible joy he had in living every day and that there is never too much love that can be given to those around you.

11:31 am on December 27th, 2012
Oh, Wookie, you are so beautiful.
My thoughts are with your mom and dad.
11:37 am on December 27th, 2012
No! No! No! This just cannot be!
Wookie’s Dad and Mom: There are no words for me to say that would express my great sorrow at the loss of your boy, Agent 00 Wookie. My heart is heavy. Wookie, like the rest of the Plunderer family, have come to mean a great deal to me.
I must share a funny story about Wookie. Yesterday, the Prof was taking a look at the Christmas cards we had received, and stopped at Wookie’s. A bit jealous, the Prof came over to me and asked about who my boy was that was sending me golden kisses. I laughed out loud. The card is from Wookie, and he is a beautiful golden retriever . The Prof turned red in the face, thinking he had arrival for my affections. And maybe he did, I was very fond of Wookie….he will remain in my heart always , and I will always keep his Christmas card.
With much love and hugs to you both.

Heart-breaking!… Very sad news from Chevy Chase….(sob!sob!sob!)…I will miss my friend Wookie with all my pug-heart. He and I had a special Bond between us. 007Wookie will be remembered for his bravery, honesty, loyalty, his deep love for his family and friends, and his special humor which touched us all…sniffle!….I want to say more…but…sob!sob!sob!
“To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice, though inasmuch as he had four legs, a tail, and barked, I admit he was, to all outward appearances. But to those who knew him well, he was a perfect gentleman.”
11:41 am on December 27th, 2012
Please excuse my typo. Arrival should be a rival.
11:41 am on December 27th, 2012
This is just too much. Maggie and Wookie on the same day. We are in tears once again. We love you Wookie Boy and extend sympathy to Maury and Debbie.
11:44 am on December 27th, 2012
Wookie! Mommy is sobbing out loud.
11:45 am on December 27th, 2012
Dear Sweet Wookie – we will miss you here on this earth, but we are so happy for you that you can now run and play and live with ease. We have a tradition of not mentioning the name of one who has gone on, but we will tell you that our most beloved and sorely missed Peabody is on the other side of the bridge. She will be happy to show you around, and tell you where all the good treat bushes are – the one with the hot wings and slim jims.
Our Mama is sending hugs and support to your mom and dad. And she thanks them for the care and devotion they gave you, giving you the very best life any Secret Agent ever had.
Farewell for now, and watch for the rest of us when it is our time to join you.
11:48 am on December 27th, 2012
Maury and Debbie – My deepest condolences. That beautiful boy will be missed.
11:49 am on December 27th, 2012
We join Spence in remembering and thinking of Maggie, Staff, Dawson, and family.
We are crying. We are so sorry about Wookie, but so thankful that he had such a great mom and dad. Wookie will always be with us.
That is a beautiful picture of Wookie and the quilts.
11:53 am on December 27th, 2012
Wolfie, That is a great idea. We will join all of you on Dec. 30.
11:58 am on December 27th, 2012
Rio, that is a very lovely and touching quote.
12:05 pm on December 27th, 2012
Oh our good friend Wookie. Sob sob. Is there to be no end to the sadness this season? Maury and Debbie, my heart aches for you. Please know that all of us on this blog loved Wookie as one of our own. We will continue to feel his presence on every mission.
Sob.
12:09 pm on December 27th, 2012
It is a lovely quote, Rio, as Rose said. Wookie was always a gentleman. For almost 4 years now, mom has told me to use Wookie as a role model here on the blog. I will always try to honor Wookie in that way. Someday I wiil play with him at Rainbow Bridge.
One of the best times of my life was when Wookie took me and Rio to the World Series.
12:12 pm on December 27th, 2012
Wookie was very, very lucky that he was rescued by such a loving Mom and Dad who did the best for him right to the end. We are shedding tears every time we read another post.
12:38 pm on December 27th, 2012
Spirit!…Wookie’s Paw said he will come back to assist in new missions or help out at auction central(thank dawg!) or to make sure that no one misbehaves too badly (who would do that?)….sniff!…Do you think he will come back as “Spirit-Wookie-of-Chevy-Chase”?…snort!…Or “Spirit-Of-Wookie-Present”?…sniff!…I just wonder about these sort of things…snuffle!
12:38 pm on December 27th, 2012
We here are just too sad for words. Wookie we never knew you, yet we loved you very much. You were “the most interesting dog in the world”. Hugs and more hugs and head bumps and dainty kisses to your mom and dad. And poor Grandpa.
12:40 pm on December 27th, 2012
Tears are flowing here in the middle of the mitten for our friend Wookie. Blessings dear friend.
1:24 pm on December 27th, 2012
We welcomed Wookie with open paws. He knows he is loved on both sides of the Bridge. Not to worry, we will guard and keep his spirit like we do for each of our loved ones.
As hearts hurt and mend, the veil will be lifted.
1:36 pm on December 27th, 2012
I’ve said it before, and I know I will say it again, the only bad characteristic of a dog is they have the abiliity to break your heart. Too many tears…
Maury and Debbie: Thank you for sharing Wookie with us. I pray the prayer now I always say when an animal passes: Dear Creator, bless and keep his spirit. Please bless he didn’t suffer. Bless that he will know he is loved. Please comfort those who are grieving his loss whether they be animal or human. Bless that he will know he was thought of in his passing. Amen.

I have already sent an email to Wöökie’s family, so this is for Wöökie,
Hey Dude, I bet you’re having a grand time with no pain and just running and (yes) flying. Check in on us occasionally. If you see Dan, he thought your Dad was the best! So fly around with him. He will be in the old plane in which he learned to fly. Goggles would be good, and he can handle more drool than you can dish out.
Hope you don’t get mushed by the Pack of Dogs headed your way.
With a great deal of love, Melanie
1:56 pm on December 27th, 2012
I have not seen Zoë today. I was going in, but we have had over 26 inches of snow and it’s still coming down.
I will be seeing her tomorrow. I can’t remember what I said. They have taken out the infection in her lung. Her ribs are healing. The drugs are not great. She is having every side effect there is.
YSAS is staying through Saturday.
2:18 pm on December 27th, 2012
Mom just happened to check the blog at work today and is crying for our friend. Wookie. It is so hard to lose our cherished babies (that’s what each of these pets are to us). We’re so glad Debbie and Maury were able to be with him and that, when he decided it was time, his passing went quickly.
You will always be in our hearts. Wookie.
Gus and BooBear
2:27 pm on December 27th, 2012
Snow!…26 inches of snow! I can’t even imagine how tall that would be…wheeze!…And still coming down? I’m very relieved that Clarkson is staying with you, Melanie. Very very relieved.
2:27 pm on December 27th, 2012
Melanie: I wonder how many can fit in Dan’s plane?
2:44 pm on December 27th, 2012
CHH, Rose and Rio: Please check your SDD.
3:05 pm on December 27th, 2012
Staff and Dawson: Thank you for the card. I love it!
4:46 pm on December 27th, 2012
They just returned from the movie theatre, where they saw “Lincoln”, the movie not the person. Mom says to thank Rose for the thumbs up. They thought the movie was excellent, even though their eyes were rather blurry throughout.
5:02 pm on December 27th, 2012
Lincoln!…Is that movie sad? …sniff!…My friend wants to see it but she says she can’t take too much more sadness…wuffle!
5:12 pm on December 27th, 2012
The movie wasn’t sad, Rio. It centers on a very brief timeframe during which Lincoln pushed for radification of the 13th amendment. It did include the assasination, but that was anti-climactic, and in Mom’s opinion, not a necessary part of the story the movie was telling.
5:12 pm on December 27th, 2012
I keep rereading the line right over Wookie’s picture in his dad’s post, and help but try to take it to heart.
“…there is never too much love that can be given to those around you.”
The quilt is crowded today, but I feel like I’m in good company.
5:20 pm on December 27th, 2012
Assasination!…I was really hoping it would not have that part in it…grunt!…Maybe we will wait for the DVD after all…sniff! …There is The Hobbit. I fear my friend would get sick watching it though because of the way they filmed it…snort!…Because of the high-speed filming technique, it is supposed look as if you are part of the movie. Has anyone seen it? Is this true?….grunt!
5:23 pm on December 27th, 2012
Rio: Going to the Hobbit was AJ and I’s Christmas treat to ourselves. I didn’t know about the high-speed filming. I’m glad we saw it on the big screen. It is a long movie.
5:24 pm on December 27th, 2012
Rio, Maybe they meant that their eyes were blurry becasues they were thinking about Wookie during the movie.
Barb just reread Maury’s tribute to our dear friend and she is crying and sniffling all over again. She sid she is glad I am only 3, whatever that means.
5:36 pm on December 27th, 2012
On the way home from the movies, they read a post from a friend that his miniature schnauzer is given only 6-12 months. They are really having a difficult time keeping the “jolly” in this holiday vacation, what with all of the sad news, as well as Mom still being sick. 🙁
5:50 pm on December 27th, 2012
Ahh, Wookie. 🙁 You will be missed by many here but I am glad that you won’t be absent from the blog or our adventures–you enriched both.
I received Staff’s card today, I was jealous of everyone’s comments yesterday. Now I want a kitty and a goatie.
6:11 pm on December 27th, 2012
I am trying to find the positive in some of the sadness:
*Wookie found a wonderful home, he was loved and treated well and Maury and Debbie were with him to the end—what a gift.
*We have been reminded to show those we love how we feel.
*The miniature schnauzer’s people know to cherish the .
*I’m thankful for a husband who held me, without judgement, as I cried this morning, and again this afternoon; I’m thankful for his lap to sit on and his strong shoulders on which to lean.
*Staff and Dawson were able to share one last holiday with Maggie
*Even though Zoe has had setbacks in her healing, the infection in her lungs is clearing.
*We may have lost several elders from our extended, Plunderer family in recent months, but whether we knew them personally or not, we have benefits and our lives made richer by those they raised.
*Wookie’s final mission on this side of the Bridge of surprising his dad was very important and he accomplished in style.
*I’m thankful for the safe placecreated by Spence that we have to come to each day—‘Cheers’ has nothing on us.
*We were able to surprise Zoe thanks to Wolfie’s thoughtfulness.
*I’m thankful for the prayer gatherings.
*Zoe proved our suspicions: 1) 80 year-olds don’t bounce, and 2)the landing is just as important as the take-off.
*Sometimes laughter and tears go hand in hand.
*Again, thanks to Wolfie’s thoughtfulness, we will have a Celebration of Life of all those who have crossed the Bridge before us.
*I’m grateful the veil is thin and our loved ones never leave us.
6:15 pm on December 27th, 2012
I must admit when the Turtleman brought me the goat cards I had second and third thoughts. But then I thought of the marauding goats and Barb and Maggie and decided they fit right in with the community. Dawson and I combed the dishlickers for every address we could find and used up every last card. I am glad you are all enjoying them.
6:21 pm on December 27th, 2012
Rebecca, checked and responded!
OHs: Today the Prof and I saw ” Les Miserables.” Even though the Prof is not crazy about musicals he LOVED it, and so did I. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway gave tremendous performances. When Miss Hathaway sings ” I Dreamed a Dream”, well, I had to wipe my eyes. I did cry at the end of the movie as well. I was thinking about Wookie the whole time.
6:29 pm on December 27th, 2012
Wose: Yeep! My Two-legged checked your response. She’s so excited. That makes me excited.
My Two-legged has a gift card with just enough for a matinee. She thinks she will use it to Les Miserables. She loves the music.
6:32 pm on December 27th, 2012
I am so embarrassed by my Two-legged. She just noticed all her errors in her list of positives above. She says leaking eyes and posting don’t go hand in hand. The third on her list should finish that the people know to cherish the time they have in the coming months.
7:23 pm on December 27th, 2012
Belle Starr: I am so excited, I think I am going to splort! Will you be at the airport when we get there? I will have my Chet ID on. Will you have your pink, sparkly collar on? If your two-legged goes to see Les Miserables, please tell her to bring tissues.
7:25 pm on December 27th, 2012
Sammie, will we see a picture of your flamingo?
7:30 pm on December 27th, 2012
Wose: Well, poop! My Two-legged says I forget my manners when I get too excited. She thinks the visit to the airport will be too much for me, and then meeting my favorite two-legged will put me over the top. I will work on her. I think I can wear her down.
7:30 pm on December 27th, 2012
Clarkson!…I’m thankful I get to see Clarkson acting as a dead body again tonight on Elementary (on demand)…heh!… There he is!…Wooooo!
7:32 pm on December 27th, 2012
Flamingo!…We here want to see that pink flamingo too…snort!…Sounds like an interesting toy to fight over.. yip!
7:34 pm on December 27th, 2012
Clarkson!…This also reminds me that Clarkson was going to tell us all another story about this shoot…sniff!…He never did! I’ve been waiting and waiting for it…wuffel!
7:36 pm on December 27th, 2012
Princess Sam: Any sign of my dog or your flamingo?
7:44 pm on December 27th, 2012
Rebecca!… She has convinced me…sniff!…From now on I am going to try and find the positive in events that occur in which I have no control…sneeze!….”Try” being the operative word.
8:04 pm on December 27th, 2012
Belle Starr , tell your two-legged you are always well mannered when you blur over for my lightning bolts. You are always impeccably behaved.
8:05 pm on December 27th, 2012
Mommy was so upset about Wookie she couldn’t stop crying. Four years ago the 2-1/2 year old before me had to be put down. Then Molly. Last week cousin Emma the Pug had to be put down. Mommy was already a wreck. She said tomorrow will be better for the flamingo.
8:10 pm on December 27th, 2012
Princess Sam: Tell your mom to join the rest of us under the quilt. There is room for more. We have snacks and plenty of tissue.
8:20 pm on December 27th, 2012
Wose: I’ve tried to tell her. She won’t listen to reason.
Rio: My Two-legged tries very hard to choose to find the positive. Sometimes it is easier than others.
I am glad YSAS is with Melanie during the holidays, while Zoe is in the hospital and now during the storm.
8:21 pm on December 27th, 2012
I hope Dawson made it home safely.
8:30 pm on December 27th, 2012
MollysMom!…sniffle!…You poor thing. I know how you feel. Just last week or one of those tuesdays not too long ago a very good friend of me and Beau’s was taken from us…sniffle!…Her name was Dolly and I think about her each and every day…wuffle!sniffle!…Enough is enough already!…grump!…Sorry, but I cannot find the positive in losing two best friends so closely together…sob!sob!sob!
8:51 pm on December 27th, 2012
Dawson just checked in. She is fine and at home but I think she tried to sleep without the quilt last night. I had a lovely nap under it yesterday afternoon. The quilt is very soothing no matter what. You don’t have to be sick. Maybe just sick at heart. Then the quilt is a wonderful place to be.
I also spent a lot of today playing fishdom. That is a mindless game that the Librarian introduced me to when she was here. I hate her for that but it is very good to play when you don’t want to think too much.
I think I might play a little now.
8:59 pm on December 27th, 2012
Staff!….Don’t “think”, just do it!…heh!heh!…Okay, I will try and be positive again…grump!
9:36 pm on December 27th, 2012
Staff – we are going to try to find “fishdom” for our Mama. We think that she is just so tired from the last month that things are catching up to her. We have caught her crying more than once in the past few days, and we think she needs something mindless to stop her from thinking too.
Rio – one thing you can remember is that you are “positive”ly the most Provocative Pug we have ever met.
9:37 pm on December 27th, 2012
Stover!… On Demand has a NOVA show called “Building The Cathedrals”…snort!….We are just starting to watch it, but thought you might also enjoy it. Check it out when you have time. Incredible!!…snort!…And it is set in France, so far.
9:40 pm on December 27th, 2012
Tupper N’ Gilly!… Do not ever provoke a pug…sniff!…We are not very procative when provoked…grunt!
9:42 pm on December 27th, 2012
Misspelling!…You know what I meant…sniff!…I’m trying to watch cathedrals being built…dammit!…I even double checked that…sniff!
10:01 pm on December 27th, 2012
We are here but can find no soothing words to say. Tears are flowing freely, hearts are breaking on this day. We must say farewell to two members of our little community.
Maggie, beloved wife of Bruce and mother of Staff, Dawson, A.C. Librarian, the Turtleman & Chris.
Our own 007Wookie, Plunderer Extraordinaire, we will keep your wise words in our hearts. You Sir, truly are, a GentleDog.
Goodnight Everyone. We join you now under the Quilt – Bear
10:04 pm on December 27th, 2012
Architecture!…We all have learned a new word tonight. “The Flying Buttress”….snort!
10:06 pm on December 27th, 2012
Bear N’ Maskers!…I was wondering when those guys would get back home and read all the sad news…wuffle!sniffle!
10:19 pm on December 27th, 2012
Welcome back BSD and Masquers. Sorry you are coming back to so much sad news. We are glad Maggie and Wookie were able to spend Christmas Day with their families. Now we are going to crawl under the quilt with all our friends. Good night.
10:53 pm on December 27th, 2012
I’m so glad Dawson is home. Pancho and Lefty each took a pant leg and dragged Dawson under the quilt where she belongs. Tenzing is busy serving as her pillow and Savannah is snuggled close to her.
Howlers: You’ve asked abou the race and training. AJ and the team are out on the trail right now. It is warm (above 20 degrees) so AJ waited until the evening to run. He isn’t feeling tip-top, so it will probably only be a 40 mile run. I am hoping the temperatures cool for the race.
10:54 pm on December 27th, 2012
We have played fishdom until our little fingers are nubbins. Now we are going to get ready for bed.
Nighty noodle all youse guys.
11:00 pm on December 27th, 2012
Awww Staff!…Goodnight!….sniff!
Giant!…He better get better before the race. …wheeze!…What does he need? Special Powers? I would give them to him if I could, by golly….sniff!…Stuff some Airborn down his big throat Rebecca…grunt!
11:00 pm on December 27th, 2012
Oh, I want to tell you some good news.
I am pretty sure I have solved my problem with my meds. It is not the meds. I believe I have developed lactic intolerance. This mystery tummy illness that I have had since the middle of August has been diagnosed by me me me. (And something the hospice nurse said and something my SIL “E” said) I haven’t had milk for two days now and every day my tummy is much happier.
Too bad for the doctor who told me to drink lots of milk! If he wants to have the runs and nasty farts he can drink the milk.
Also on the good side I have lost 20 pounds. Now if I can keep it off now that my body will process food again instead of expelling it all will be fine fine fine.
I hope that wasn’t tmi (too much information for B)
11:02 pm on December 27th, 2012
