“Why not?” says Admin.
“Shouldn’t we battening down the hatches?” Spence says.
“We don’t have any hatches.”
“Also none of those basement window covers. I was thinking you might pick some up on your coffee run.”
“Grumble.”

Happy Egg Day, Everybody! Our hatches are all battened, and we are out on
critterstorm patrol.Shiek is feeling a tad better, although not yet ready to give up the quilt, wich is somehow full of hay now.
7:53 am on October 28th, 2012
Nothing goes with coffee like a basement window cover!
Happy Egg Day to you to OleyHowlers. You’re on Patrol! The Pack usually sleeps through large storms.
Today:
Find two bungee cords and put one each by the screen doors that fly open during wind no matter what we do.
Get the tomato cages in the shed.
Get gas for generator.
We are picking up the Subaru tomorrow morning. I was correct. It did sound like a Mac truck because it had lost a very large muffler pipe. Get gas in both cars. Pick up last medicine needed.
YSAS is still at OTAS and GLAD’s, he’s leaving sometime today before they close the mass transportation. OTAS and GLAD’s house is completely electric. They do have a fireplace. I told them to be careful. If the wind is coming from the wrong direction it will blow the smoke right into the house.
Sounds like it’s going to effect people as far inland as Ohio!
Wear ankle weights everyone! That should keep us on the ground.
8:20 am on October 28th, 2012
What are “hatches”?
Melanie: “Ankle weights.” LOL!
Take care everyone.
8:55 am on October 28th, 2012
Melanie, we aren’t wearing ankle weights because we’re afraid we’d drown. Also: you’d better pick up that Subaru early tomorrow. Pop’s car is still in the shop since being towed 2 weeks ago. We still don’t know what needs fixing.
Bee, hatches are openings on boats and subs. Ours are all in our minds, and we know they are battened.
8:56 am on October 28th, 2012
Hey Other East Coasters,
Not sure about Maryland and PA, but looks like NYC and NJ will be closing all mass transport tomorrow.
9:26 am on October 28th, 2012
Change that. NYC is closing all mass transit at 7pm tonight.
9:34 am on October 28th, 2012
Melanie – we just watched the DVR of POI and saw your handsome YSAS’s face, and he didn’t have a hole in his face. Thanks to Dawson and the minute count, he was easy to spot. How cool to know who he is – Rio’s degree of separation.
We’re worried about you East Coasters. May you all stay safe and warm and dry. Take care Plunderers, everywhere.
9:44 am on October 28th, 2012
Oooo – the air does feel ominous. Very spooky, just in time for Halloween.
Gramp has decided that we need to use the leaf blower to blow the pine needles out off of the covered gutters. Which means we need to go get gas for the blower. Which means we need to move all the cars around -again.
Oh well.
Then Mama is cooking a ham so we have leftovers for Storm Day.
Hope OFA doesn’t get washed out to sea!
9:47 am on October 28th, 2012
Estimated 60 mil folks will be effected. ComEd sent 700 teams east yesterday. They started driving yesterday afternoon to get there by the time the storm hits and will stay for the cleanup. Wonder how this will effect voting if people cannt get to the polling places or if there is no power. We are keeping Plunderers, and everyone else too, in our thoughts and prayers.
On a lighter note, here is a picture of Lily who conducted a bake sale yesterday. She is quite the baker, and made everything herself. She had bananna breads, with and without chocolate chips, several kinds of cookies and muffins. Not sure how much she made, but she sold out.

9:48 am on October 28th, 2012
O.Howlers: Good to hear Shiek is doing better.
The poor Tigers. After reading Staff’s post of last night we are feeling very bad for them. It is not good to lose a game in home territory. Since I am always for the underdog…Go Tigers!
Melanie: There is concern salt water will get into the NYC subways playing havoc with the wiring.
Nana is very worried about #2 son who works in D.C.
This is going to be a stressful 4 days for the Plunderers.
10:00 am on October 28th, 2012
Ok youse guys – this is an absolute real headline from Associated Press.
“Marines, police prepare for zombie invasion”. In short, at an annual counter-terrorism summit, the training this year will be a scenario of protecting a VIP and his entourage from a zombie hoard. Really. They will have gangs of zombies attacking and the police and marines are learning defense techniques.
The subcontext is that people intent on terrorism, or high on pcp or such things would be zombie like in their lack of response to commands to stop or back off.
Still…..zombies? Really?
10:06 am on October 28th, 2012
Melanie, where does OTAS live? Can’t remember, but sounds like he may be in a bad spot, huh?
10:06 am on October 28th, 2012
Keep preparing everyone!
Terry is on Long Island. I’m getting out the map to see where Rose lives, but I think I already have a general idea of where it is.
I feel sorry for the Tigers and their fans also. I want the Giants to win the series, but as Rio said, they don’t need to sweep it.
On a Sunday, the game is tonight. What happpened to afternoon games in the World Series? Gah
10:07 am on October 28th, 2012
Good Morning All!
The Prof and I are getting ready to gas up the car, buy a few groceries, and make sure that anything that needs charging is charged. I have not watched news yet, but I’m guessing if subways are close, Metro North might soon follow, since my line, the Hudson runs right along its edge.
Masquers: Saw your post from last night. Don’t tell anyone, but I am a little afraid of this whole thing.
OHs: Glad to hear you are all wind proof . Take good care of Shiek.
To Plunderers near and far, please stay safe!,,
10:12 am on October 28th, 2012
T&G I read that article in the paper this morning. I suppose they just want people to pay attention or they want to have more fun while doing it. This is assuming they know what they are doing.
10:13 am on October 28th, 2012
Siber-H. If your map shows landmarks, I am about 2 miles south of Indian Point. Croton-on-Hudson , where we live is between Ossining (to the south), and Peekskill ( to the north). We are about 5-10 miles away from Bear Mountain Park. We live very close to the edge of the Hudson River.
10:18 am on October 28th, 2012
Wose, We asked Kat if you and the Prof live up high, away from any chance of flooding. She has no idea.
10:18 am on October 28th, 2012
T&G: Makes you think the World has gone completely loco, doesn’t it? A purrfect time for YSAS’ Munchies the Series though. Heh.
Riö: You were right last night when you talked about a Series sweep being so wrong. The players work so hard to get there then to have it all end abruptly, especially at home, would be heartbreaking.
Rose: Gah! Hopefully there is something left on the store shelves. We wanted to come keep you company but blurring conditions are not looking good as the storm approaches landfall.
Stay safe everyone!!!
10:19 am on October 28th, 2012
Wose, Please tell me you don’t live on the first or second floor of the apartment building.
In normal times, it would be neat to live that close to the Hudson River.
10:25 am on October 28th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: We think your Lily is very special. What a wonderful ideas she comes up with! Thank you for posting the photo.
I will be watching the game tonight. As to who should come out the victor? There is a difference of opinion in this household.
Wose: Let us know how your preparations are going.
10:30 am on October 28th, 2012
Barb – we think your Lily is on her way to being a rich and successful business woman, albeit one with a heart. Many of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs talk about starting out with lemonade or produce stands from their own gardens.
She is a real do getter.
Wose – while doing your errands, make sure to get your water wings pumped up.
10:36 am on October 28th, 2012
The latest map of the storm has the Oleys right in the targets bulls eye. Yikes!
11:05 am on October 28th, 2012
Oh NO! I don’t know who to worry about more. Rose or the O”Howlers or Terry or OTAS and GLAD. And I think YSAS would be better off with OTAS than in the city. And Wookie, jeez!
YIKES.
Who did I miss? Melanie and the Royals? And Our Favorite Author!
11:07 am on October 28th, 2012
Barb, Lily’s baking makes me wish I could eat gluten!
NYC is really concerned about Long Island. Hope Terry is inland.
YSAS is the lower west side. BUT, far enough to be above an evacuation area. He is also on the fourth floor in an older building that was built to last. I heard about the subway wiring. Luckily, YSAS has a bike to go to work, the store, get coffee.
Have a few more things to do. We are leaving around 8 am to go get the car. Supposed to be some wind, but nothing like it will be later.
Whew, noon and I’m zonked. Going to rest.
11:17 am on October 28th, 2012
Before I go, looking at the maps. Cape Cod is supposed to get 60 -70 mph with higher gusts. Rain fall 2- 4 inches.
The Royals and the Pack? 50 -60 mph with higher gusts. 3 – 6 inches of rain.
My guys and gal are looking at 60 – 70 mpg with higher gusts. 3 – 6 inches of rain.
Rose and Terry are in this group too.
Not sure where the OleyHowlers live. Probably 50 – 60 mph with higher gusts. Rain? Depends where they are. Somewhere between 3 to 8 inches of water.
I think Wöökie is going to get 50 – 60 mph with gusts and rain? Whew, 6 – 12 inches of water.
Now, for us, this should not have the flooding impact that Irene had last year. Less rain over a longer period. BUT, we didn’t have the wind with Irene.
11:19 am on October 28th, 2012
Melanie: Good to know you are picking up the car today. Tomorrow is when the winds conditions are expected to get much worse.
Riö and Siber, Dawson and Staff: You will have lots of company watching this 4th game of the Series tonight.
11:22 am on October 28th, 2012
The World Series–a Greek tragedy in the making.
Way to go Barb’s Lily.
11:27 am on October 28th, 2012
Even though a Giants fan I will be rooting for the Tigers, lest this be the dreaded shutout…something on which we all can agree…not a good thing.
B: Say it isn’t so!
11:34 am on October 28th, 2012
Calling all Plunderers – prayer circle tonight. 9 pm
11:37 am on October 28th, 2012
T&G, Excellent idea! I’ll even leave the baseball game long enough to take part in it.
Melanie, Yours is the best storm report I’ve seen. I know you are busy, but please keep up the good reporting if you can.
11:46 am on October 28th, 2012
Thanks for all that info, Melanie. Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel was just on tv. He is in NYC at Battery Park. They are being evacuated shortly from that spot and also from their hotel. They are expecting water as high at 10-11 feet which is 2 time Irene last year. Not sure how far inland they will be impacted from the wave surges.
11:55 am on October 28th, 2012
T&G: Count me in for the prayer circle.
Wose: Luna tied a rain scarf under her chin, checked her inner GPS—all systems are a go—and left. She said she was blurring to be with you and the Professor. She left Belle Starr here for safety reasons. Belle Starr is not happy.
11:56 am on October 28th, 2012
I received an email from my brother who says the Tigers are “playing like crap and hitting worse.”
12:11 pm on October 28th, 2012
Barb, we would love to sample Lily’s baked goods.
Prayers at 9:00 e.d.t.. We will be there.
The weather geeks keep saying that this will be the worst storm ever. Hw do you prepare for such an unknown? Since we have no idea what to expect, there is no use in worrying. Right now, it is not a bad day outdoors. The horses are out and so are we. We do have a generator and also very thick stone walls that have withstood at least one tornado. We are more worried for those Plunderers close to the coast or to a river. Terry in particular is in a scary spot. Be careful, Terry.
12:24 pm on October 28th, 2012
Latest forecast:

12:28 pm on October 28th, 2012
Didn’t Terry say he bought out the liquor store?
12:33 pm on October 28th, 2012
Greek tragedy in the making . . snicker.
I will be at the prayer circle. Might not be on line, but tucked in bed. But I’ll be there. Getting a tad tired.
Unable to pick up car until tomorrow. So, just in case we can’t get out tomorrow, we went 6 miles down the hill and got the gas for the generator and filled the Honda.
Unfortunately, when the lady turned the gas on for the pump, Zoe was not quite ready. So we rode with the windows down in the car and the heat pumping away. Zoe is now washing her clothes.
Love the latest forecast!
12:41 pm on October 28th, 2012
I am sure everyone knows this, but just in case – generators are not to be operated indoors or in a closed garage, only outside.
Loved the weather forecast up above. LOL
Will be there for the prayer circle.
12:42 pm on October 28th, 2012
When the water level rises, how about riding on a flamingo.
12:42 pm on October 28th, 2012
Melanie: Zoe’s day at the gas station reminds me of a visit to the car wash years ago. AJ just put in all the tokens but didn’t expect the water to start automatically. He was holding the hose in the wrong direction and um, let’s just say his zipper got power washed.
12:47 pm on October 28th, 2012
Love the flamingo, and that photo, MPM!
12:57 pm on October 28th, 2012
Howlers: LOL
I was ready for pickup when Luna blurred by a bit ago.
1:23 pm on October 28th, 2012
OHowlers. Love your weather forecast. Choices, choices. Buy a boat or buy liquor. snicker
1:23 pm on October 28th, 2012
oops. Sorry B. I didn’t mean to rhyme. The fault is mine.
Jeez.
1:32 pm on October 28th, 2012
We will be present at this evenings Prayer Circle.
Melanie: Siber-H is right. You are doing an excellent job of manning Storm Central.
O.Howlers: Looks like a pretty accurate map. We sent a copy to #2 son in D.C. He says it will come in handy.
Clever photo, MollyPop’s Mom!
1:42 pm on October 28th, 2012
Staff: Rhymes, rhymes, they sneak up all the time.
1:50 pm on October 28th, 2012
The Howlers map is one of those things that is funny, but not funny. So is the email Stover’s brother sent her. Maybe the Tigers have taken some lessons from the Rockies.
Luna? You can swim, can’t you? Perhaps you should stop and pick up the pink flamingo.
1:56 pm on October 28th, 2012
SiberH: I’ve been told in part fish. I enjoy a good dip every now and then. I’m happy to pick up MPM no matter what she chooses to wear. I hope Sam shared my rules with her: go to the bathroom beforehand, keep the squirming to a minimum and bring snacks.
2:12 pm on October 28th, 2012
Storm!…All youse guys are sure getting worked up over this so-called storm, thats all I can say…snort!
2:13 pm on October 28th, 2012
Luna, Get the flamingo for Masquers then. Kats can’t swim.
2:37 pm on October 28th, 2012
MPM, you look pretty in pink.
I hope Rio is right and Sandy becomes a so-called storm! Maybe we should suggest that at prayer call.
2:41 pm on October 28th, 2012
I have about 10 weather sites I go to. I am also using the link that OH put up yesterday.
Our area has had the wind level downgraded to 30 mph with gusts up to 70. Our rain level will be anywhere from 1 inch to 6 inches.
We’ll see. Been upstairs making the bed. Patsy does not understand why she can’t help. Now about to go downstairs and watch “Matilda”.
3:08 pm on October 28th, 2012
Now downstairs. Matilda coming up, but first . .
How this weather pattern looks through out North America, not just USA.
3:08 pm on October 28th, 2012
Except I hit the wrong frigging button!

3:20 pm on October 28th, 2012
Count us in on the prayer circle.
3:21 pm on October 28th, 2012
No rain yet, but the wind is picking up, and the temps are falling. Supermarket was not as bad as we thought it would be, but of course, water and bread are sold out.
The Prof’s classes are cancelled on Monday, and Tuesday, and as long as we don’t lose power, I’ll be working from home, since I believe the Metro North will be closed.
OHs: Prof and I live in a three story garden style apartment. Two apartments on the basement level, two on the second floor (me and the Prof), and the third floor.
I think we will have lots of flooding.
Luna, please be safe when blurring! Hold Masquers tightly.
Molly Pop’s Mom: love the flamingo!!!
3:34 pm on October 28th, 2012
Okay, here we are. We decided to ride out the storm in Merrick for now and fall back on Queens if Bob has power and we don’t. Both Donna’s library and Bob’s are officially closed now, so we don’t have that concern. I will call Rescue Ink tomorrow morning and tell them the obvious. We have two main concerns – three mature trees and the possibility of power outages. So, we’ll just sit back and see what happens. We were in Queens this morning, because we stayed at Bob’s apartment after the wedding. We walked over to the 24 hour store and got last minute supplies in an almost empty store. When we got back, we realized that we needed two more things for dinner tonight. We went to the local grocery store, where it looked like the end of the world. Someday we are thinking of selling the house here and moving to Queens.

3:51 pm on October 28th, 2012
Photo!…Wow! I love that photo Terry..snort!…It looks so peaceful and calm.
3:59 pm on October 28th, 2012
Maskers!…We are sitting down to watch the fourth season of Damages…snort!…My friend has been busy making spaghetti sauce. Later when that is finished brewing she is going to make Stuffed Shells using her own version of ricotta cheese…wheeze!…Its that dry cottage and green with an egg and some salt she puts in a food processor till it is smooth…snort!…Those guys love that stuff…heh!heh!…Opps, Damages is starting. We still can’t believe that Tom is dead…gasp!
4:04 pm on October 28th, 2012
Me too, Love the photo, Terry.
That really is the calm before the storm.
Wose, You should be fine but you can always go up to the third floor if necessary.
4:14 pm on October 28th, 2012
Thanks for checking in Terry. The photo looks so calm (before the storm?)
Melanie: What’s that ominous cloud coming our way?
Wose: I do wish your apartment was a little higher off the ground!
Rio: Do you, per chance, know something we don’t?
We have watched all seasons of Damages that are available to date. Outstanding show!
4:24 pm on October 28th, 2012
Bear!…If you have seen all the episodes that are available then you know more than I do…grunt!…Last season, Tom was drowned in a toilet. Remember?…gurgle!
4:27 pm on October 28th, 2012
The wind here has started blowing from the east. I thought the low pressure hanging over us was firm, but the storm coming is obviously stronger.
4:28 pm on October 28th, 2012
Riö: One more season to go til another excellent show bits the dust. sob.
4:29 pm on October 28th, 2012
It really is the calm before the storm – wind is kicking up some, but have hardly had a drop of rain. Will try to walk Yuji right after dinner. With that bit of ESP that dogs have, he knows that something is up.
The picture is actually taken from Edgewater NJ, but it kind of symbolizes the kind of day that I am seeing outside my window. I’ve got a vault of thousands of pictures – mostly New York or Ireland.
Just want to fast forward the next 48 hours. I’m thinking of my future in terms of “Before Sandy” and “After Sandy.”
4:50 pm on October 28th, 2012
Its calm before the storm here in Chevy Chase as well. Closings are starting to be announced, the schools first and other stuff later, although no announcement yet regarding the DC subway system. Friends are coming over for dinner tonight, and after that, we will see. Some guy down the street named Noah is building a big wooden boat, 40 cubits by 80 cubits (if you remember the Bill Cosby routine — right!!!). Our hotel escape was already totally booked when we tried to make reservations, so we are just hunkering down here at Casa Wookie.
Wookie

5:12 pm on October 28th, 2012
Dear Vookie – remember please, in ark, animals go 2 x 2.
So…..do you have anyvon special in mind?
Hmmmm?
5:17 pm on October 28th, 2012
Natasha!…Wookie and Gramps then Wookie’s Maw and Paw will enter the Ark two by two…heh!…No reason to get all persnickity…sneeze!
5:28 pm on October 28th, 2012
We will be here tonight for the prayer, and also tomorrow, Rio. They are predicting lake effect rain here as a result of the storm, so effects will actually be felt all the way to the midwest. That is incredible!
Terry and Wookie, OH and everybody else – be safe and don’t take any chances. Some areas could be without power for over a week, so we may not hear from some of you. If there is some way to get in touch with a blog member, please let us know how you are.
5:34 pm on October 28th, 2012
Cape!…Does anyone know how Spencer, Admin, The Charming Mr. Abrahams, his wife Diana, Audrey and Pearl will fair?…snort!…Thats quite a klan under one roof…sniff!…I hope Admin is adept at battening down hatches even though he doesn’t believe they have any…sniff!
5:39 pm on October 28th, 2012
Terry, Awesome photograph! I am familiar with Merrick, so please stay safe.
Luna, blew in a while ago. She blurred into some blizzard conditions, but her plastic rain cap kept her head dry. The Prof and I used some warm towels to dry her off.
Candles are out, electronics are charged, we have provisions.
Plunderers, be safe!
5:42 pm on October 28th, 2012
Wöökie . . wait for the sewers to back up . .
All schools and colleges in MA are closed for tomorrow. The storm is going to hit around 10:30 am (supposedly). Look out New Jersey!
Terry, beautiful picture.
Heard our weather report . . the eastern slopes of the Berkshires are going to get it the worst in the area. Hmmm, that’s where we live!
Hold on to your hats or fur!
5:43 pm on October 28th, 2012
Hi Rio! Do youse guys still have a bunch of snow?
Dinner sounds delish!
5:47 pm on October 28th, 2012
Rose!
5:52 pm on October 28th, 2012
Rose!…Yes, we still have that damned snow…grump!…And its cold out but she insists on taking us for our walk until Beau does his business on top of a bush…grump!
Supper!….Is baking and it smells delish….wooooooo!woooooo!
5:54 pm on October 28th, 2012
Thanks, everyone. The good news is that we are at the extreme north end of Merrick – just above the Southern Parkway. Our two main worries are the trees in our yard and the chance of a long-term power outage. If our power goes AND our son’s as well in Queens, we may be out of touch for a few days. Until then, I plan to keep shooting off my mouth from here at the Front.

Yuji says ‘Me too!”
5:56 pm on October 28th, 2012
I suppose the blog could go down, couldn’t it?
6:01 pm on October 28th, 2012
Belle Starr, was there any rockin’ and rollin’ there at home? There was a tsunmai in British Columbia that stretched from Alaska to Hawaii. Plus there were two 3.9 earthquakes in California.
6:05 pm on October 28th, 2012
Masquers! I am here for now. As long as we have power, I will be able to post on this here blog.
Bear, thank you for your concern. There are times when I wish we lived in a high-rise building.
Rio! Are you wearing your coat of many colors on your walk. I do not want you getting sick.
6:19 pm on October 28th, 2012
Hey! What happened? Luna and I were together. I must have been blown off course.
6:34 pm on October 28th, 2012
Whoa! Luna just gave herself a good shake…guess who fell out of her fur? Masquers! We are drying him off right now….
6:35 pm on October 28th, 2012
We have a generator which may allow us to post thru the storm, but not sure if our dsl will keep us connected to the internet.
It is now raining pretty good, but not too much wind yet.
Melanie, is 10:30 the time your area will be hit, or did they change the time for our area, which we thought was ~1:00 am?
All schools and colleges are closed here tomorrow. Will Wall St be closed (stock market that is)? Mom is hoping for a call saying her office is closed.
6:38 pm on October 28th, 2012
Yipee! My busy place is closed tomorrow! However, I still have to work from home. I am in very good company….Luna, The Prof, and my dear Masquers. Oh, there is some kool jazz scheduled for tomorrow…..
6:40 pm on October 28th, 2012
BSD – we just heard about the earthquake and tsunami warnings. Are youse guys all okay out there?
We aren’t too sure where Wolfie is but we don’t envy any if you the earthquakes!
6:42 pm on October 28th, 2012
Wose: Don’t even get me started! Can you believe I’m here and you are there? My four-legged and two-legged both said it is for my own good, but I’m concerned. What if my four-legged doesn’t know how to properly take care of you. I mean, she did a great job with me, but that could have just been luck.
6:47 pm on October 28th, 2012
O.Howlers: Last word this afternoon was the NY Stock Exchange will be open. Of course that could (or has already) change.
6:48 pm on October 28th, 2012

Will be back after a bit (bite). What time does the game come on?
7:11 pm on October 28th, 2012
Last night after the card games ended we all sat around the tv and watched…the weather channel! There had been a 7.7 earthquake at Haida Qwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and there was a tsunami warning in effect at that time from Washington to Alaska.
I will be here for the prayer circle tonight.
I can here the National Anthem being sung now…are the kats doing the singing? How’d they get the gig?
7:13 pm on October 28th, 2012
Belle Starr, no worries. It is because your four-legged mama did such a great job with you, that I can depend on her to take good care of the Prof and me. Masquers is given the Prof some relaxing pawflexology at the moment.

7:24 pm on October 28th, 2012
Guys!…Calm down…sniff!…You act like the world is coming to an end soon. I do not believe it will, not yet anyways…sniff!…That 7.7 earthquake is worrisome though…good grief!…We did not watch the news today as we were taking the day off from all stressful things, including world news…grunt!yeep!
7:25 pm on October 28th, 2012
Dawson!…Even I am cheering for the Tigers tonight. I do not want baseball to end this soon…grut!

Rio: Is the baseball game considered stressful?
7:28 pm on October 28th, 2012
Mr.Staff sent me a picture from the back porch this morning.
7:28 pm on October 28th, 2012
Baseball!…Not in the usual sense of the word…heh!heh!…Fun stress is something all together different from Storm-Stress or Busy-Place stress…grunt!
7:28 pm on October 28th, 2012
Mr.Staff sent me a picture from the back porch this morning.

forgot the photo….
7:29 pm on October 28th, 2012
Staff!…Oh no!…sniff!…Did he burn the porch up while you are gone?…grunt!
7:30 pm on October 28th, 2012
Staff!…heh!heh!…Not with all that snow he didn’t!…snort!
7:35 pm on October 28th, 2012
Mr. Staff is lucky. We’d take that snow over yucky rain and scary wind any day. But we agree that the earthquake and possible tsunami are terrifying.
The rents just got back from their little roadtrip to pick up all the political signs around our township, before they become projectiles. Now watching Revolution.
7:38 pm on October 28th, 2012
Revolution!…that show is turning out to be a lot better than we expected it would…snuffle!…Its actually very good, but they do not seem to ever need to eat or poop on that show….grunt!
7:39 pm on October 28th, 2012
Howlers – what a good idea about political signs. Now – do you think they could do anything about the overabundance of political tv ads???
And Staff – oh noooooo! Snow!
7:56 pm on October 28th, 2012
Snow!…We’ve already had a ton of snow…grump!..I don’t like it one bit, I tell you…sniff!…Although compared to hurricane wind and rain, plus power outage, well its a toss-up…grunt!
8:00 pm on October 28th, 2012
Hey! Did the blog fall back an hour already?
8:00 pm on October 28th, 2012
Creator – we thank you for this day, a day of gathering for the friends and family of the quilt. Today we are together in our thoughts and prayers; our hearts become one as we prepare for this storm.
The world you have made for us is wondrous in many ways. There are things that are so beautiful, our hearts soar to be part of them; the Northern Lights, a flock of geese against the moon. There are things that are so magnificent that they make us feel small; the vast ocean, a towering mountain, an open desert. There are things so peaceful they soothe our emotions; drifting snowflakes under a starry sky, a meandering river washing gently over the rocks.
There are also things in this world so mighty that we fear them, things of Nature that we cannot control. The storm that approaches brings with it concern. And the storm that approaches bring with it lessons for this world.
Creator, we thank you for this reminder that we are humans, and that it is not the small abilities and powers we have that rule this world. It matters not which party runs the government. It matters not how much money one has in the bank, nor what position they hold in the world of business. We are reminded that the color of ours skins, the difference in our ages, or the beliefs we have do not matter to the storm.
We learn from the lesson of this storm that our love and concern for each other is what does matter. We learn that the power we have is to love, to share our prayers for safety, to watch over those who may suffer the most from this storm.
Creator, we pray that you will protect and watch over those in the path of the coming winds and rain. We pray not only for our family, but for the family of mankind. We pray for the animals, both pets and wildlife. We pray for the trees in the forests.
We ask you to harbor our friends in these next days. Let the care and concern we have for them act as a barrier against the waves. Let it be shelter from the rain. Let it be a quilt to keep them from the cold winds. We ask that the only residue of the storm be the lesson we have relearned, the lesson that we are all the same under the mightiness of nature.
Creator –even if we fear the events to come, we thank you for this day, a day of gathering for the friends and family of the quilt. Today we are together in our thoughts and prayers; our hearts become one as we prepare for this storm.

Unrelated question….Has anyone ever had any trouble charging their Kindle? Mom’s won’t charge. The little light won’t come on showing it charging even though it is plugged in. It won’t let her open to the book she is reading and won’t charge.
Also, does anyone know if she buys a new Kindle, will she be able to transfer her library to the new one or have to purchase the books again?
8:50 pm on October 28th, 2012
Puss N’ Boots!…If you buy a new Kindle and then set it up with your same Account (username and password) that was on the old dead Kindle, you should see everything you have purchased so far….snort!…If this is not the case, you should contact Amazon and let them know…grunt!
8:57 pm on October 28th, 2012
Rio is correct, I know you don’t have to purchase the same books twice.
The only way I know to fix a Kindle is go to Amazon’s website and do the simple procedure they tell you to do for a “frozen” Kindle.
8:59 pm on October 28th, 2012
Oh, Boy. There goes Posey.
8:59 pm on October 28th, 2012
Homerun!…Buster Posey!…heh!heh!….I love that guy!…Wooooo!…He has found his bat again…snorkel!

I’m still here
if only for the beer
and Munchies.
9:15 pm on October 28th, 2012
Gus&Boo – Our TechnoHusky is giving you good advice. Do what he says.
If all is lost, and I think it isn’t, when you order the new Kindle it will already be set up on your Amazon account. Many devices can share your books. I have Sam’s Mom on my account, my iPhone, and my iPad, all sharing the books.
9:16 pm on October 28th, 2012
When I left to help Mom to bed it was 1 to 2. Now it is 3 to 3. and it is still misting. It doesn’t look as if anyone is going home though.
9:19 pm on October 28th, 2012
Misting!…Heavey misting and 30ish degrees….sniff!…The boyz from California have to be shivering…wheeze!
9:23 pm on October 28th, 2012
Gus and BooBear – ve have heard of this problem vith kindle and nook. Is possible nothing wrong vith machine. Is possible there is broke connection in power cord. They are fragile and connectors get bended out of shape. If go to store that sells kindle, like Staples, ask to try other power cord. Is much cheaper than new machine.
9:29 pm on October 28th, 2012

9:35 pm on October 28th, 2012
Staff!…Heavy misting, wind and cold weather might be to blame…grunt!
9:37 pm on October 28th, 2012
Thank you, Staff, I thought it was just me.
9:39 pm on October 28th, 2012
My gosh, now Natasha is giving us technical advice. I’m going to file that away in my brain for future reference, if needed.
Kindles can be so weird. We learned the other day what happens if a dog licks the Kindle One Touch screen. I lost mom’s place for her.
Wow, the Broncos are winning.
9:40 pm on October 28th, 2012
