Good morning, all.
10:19 am on October 8th, 2012
Rio, I’m concerned about your no-Zingers diet. It’s not healthy. I hope your friend’s mother gets home soon.
10:21 am on October 8th, 2012
Hi Steve and Sammie.
10:21 am on October 8th, 2012
Yankees beat Dem Boids. Woo hoo.
10:26 am on October 8th, 2012
Rose will be happy this morning.
10:40 am on October 8th, 2012
Good Morning Everyone!
RIO!!!
Tracy has resigned! This might be for the best.
Hi Steve, The Tigers are doing very well.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Day to Dawson.
Go Yankees!
10:40 am on October 8th, 2012
What was the final score?
B: What is the pie du jour? heh, heh.
10:40 am on October 8th, 2012
Which scene will you read Spence?
Good morning all.
10:43 am on October 8th, 2012
Who are the “Boids”?
Lemon meringue on a graham cracker crust.
10:44 am on October 8th, 2012
Masquers, Yankees 7 Birds 2
10:45 am on October 8th, 2012
Big Feast Day for Dawson, Columbus Day for us.
Siber-H: What teams are playing today?
I like lemon meringue!
10:46 am on October 8th, 2012
The Boids are the Baltimore Orioles.
Butterscotch, Butterscotch, Butterscotch
10:46 am on October 8th, 2012
If dem boids are the Cardinals then we say boo hoo. We don’t really follow baseball, but The Cards are a big favorite in Barb’s extended family.
Good morning all.
10:48 am on October 8th, 2012
Bear: The Nationals and St. Louis
The Yankees and Birds (Baltimore)
10:48 am on October 8th, 2012
Okay, butterscotch as well.
10:49 am on October 8th, 2012
Thanks, Siber.
Riö offered excellent advice last night. Airborne is the bomb. It’s Mom’s $1 cold zapper. We always keep it in medicine cabinets and travel packs…always within reach.
10:51 am on October 8th, 2012
That would be #1 not $1. It certainly costs more than one dollar.
10:51 am on October 8th, 2012
Our friend Vicki will be meeting Spence inCT tomorrow!
10:52 am on October 8th, 2012
Go Nationals! (Wookie’s Team)
Mom is buying Airborne today. I am glad the subject was brought up.
10:57 am on October 8th, 2012
Hey! Butterscotch too! B, I’ll have whipped cream on mine please.
That’s great, Boone. Take lots of pictures of you and OFA.
Go Nationals!!!
10:58 am on October 8th, 2012
My car has keyless entry – just have to have the key fob nearby. The dog’s innocent face is priceless.

10:58 am on October 8th, 2012
Boone: You need an avatar
11:00 am on October 8th, 2012
Mollys Mom: I love that commercial!
11:03 am on October 8th, 2012
Cute Video! Maybe I can get one of those keyless entry things on the Porsche 911 mom is gonna buy me.
11:04 am on October 8th, 2012
Grump!…That was the last thing I heard last night before I fell asleep with my baseball toys…sniff!…I’m not sure about this whole thing because I really liked Jim Tracy…grunt!
Bus!…Someone is waiting to hear from her mother this morning. She should be arriving in about 40 minutes or so…sniff!….If the bus is on time…heh!heh!
11:07 am on October 8th, 2012
Keyless!…The first time I saw that commercial on tv I didn’t get it at all…heh!…Not until Mollysmom explained it this morning…chorkel!…I’m hungry, but I don’t think I would ever consider eating a device…burp!
11:15 am on October 8th, 2012
Rio – the dog wasn’t hungry, he didn’t want to go to the v e t.
11:16 am on October 8th, 2012
Oh, boy. We’ve seen that commercial before too and didn’t get it either. Thanks to Rio’s last remark it finally dawned on us what happened. Is someone here dense or what?
MollyPop’s Mom: Now I really get it!
11:31 am on October 8th, 2012
Good Morning All!
Masquers, I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am that the Yankees won the first game!!! Of course, becuase of the rain delay, I could not stay up that late, but on this morning’s news, I heard CC pitched a most excellent game. Whooohoooooo!
Molly’s Mom, the Prof and I love that commercial!
Boone, please ask your friend to take a bunch of pictures so she can post some on this here blog.
What if the World Series winds up being the Yankees and the Nationals? And the Yankees win….Wookie would you still be my friend?
11:35 am on October 8th, 2012
BSD, Don’t be too hard on yourself – we didn’t get it either.
12:09 pm on October 8th, 2012
Good commercial, Aunt MPM. Whats not to get? Next time we hear mention of a v-e-t visit, Kat is volunteering to eat the fobs.
12:25 pm on October 8th, 2012
Question?
Mom bought the Airborn. I know you start taking it at the first sign of a cold, but then do you keep on taking it?
12:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
We have never heard of Airborn…wonder if that is available here.
12:33 pm on October 8th, 2012
Fellow Sibers, It is available everywhere…found in the stores with all the different cold medicines.
12:52 pm on October 8th, 2012
Siber: Usually one Airborne will do the trick.
Rose: Now THAT would be a series!
12:59 pm on October 8th, 2012
Wose — I will always be your friend, even if the Yankees were to beat the Nationals. It would be a great World Series in any event. Wookie
1:03 pm on October 8th, 2012
Yankees and Nationals…That would be one of the best series ever!!!
1:04 pm on October 8th, 2012
Riö: You had better get the Beausmobile out of the shop so you guys can meet up with Wookie on the East Coast.
1:05 pm on October 8th, 2012
Okay everyone. Let’s get rooting for these two teams!
1:06 pm on October 8th, 2012
Thanks Masquers
1:21 pm on October 8th, 2012
What about the Tigers?
1:58 pm on October 8th, 2012
Hi All, Baseball. . Okay . . . Go Red Socks!
My guys have left. Few tears, lots of laughs and go a great deal done. 🙂
Now won’t see them until Thanksgiving. 🙁
1:59 pm on October 8th, 2012
Well, I am sorta cheering for the Tigers, also. We will see what shakes out. We do have several Tiger fans here on the blog.
I am not cheering for St. Louis. I am a sore loser over last year’s World Series.
2:16 pm on October 8th, 2012
Melanie: Wonderful to hear you and Zoe had such a nice weekend. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it.
Siber-H: On this one thing we disagree, but I know you are a Rangers fan.
2:19 pm on October 8th, 2012
Bear’s only interest in baseball seems to be at the time of the World Series and, of course, any time pie is mentioned.
2:36 pm on October 8th, 2012
Thanks, Siber…we will look for Airborne for the rents.
2:55 pm on October 8th, 2012
Went to Falmouth today. Humans walked around and bought cupcakes. Momma said none for me, but I licked the fancy box and think there might be one I would very much enjoy.
Working on my avatar. Internet is very slow on the Cape. I think it is run by squirrels.
Thought maybe you all would like this picture of me being a good dog by not going where the plovers live at Sandy Neck beach. I posed like the dog on the sign.

2:57 pm on October 8th, 2012
Barb will pick up some Airborn for next time a cold hits. Have heard good things about it.
Now, hate to bring up something now-baseball, but does anyone have a good recommendation for shrubery for a shady area? The front of our house faces north, which means very little sun. We have researched a little and have come up with boxwood, Blue Muffin Viburnum and some hydrangea varieties. Any experience with those or any others? Barb is not big on yews (which tolerate shade) and wants to do something that would attract birds and butterflies.
2:59 pm on October 8th, 2012
Boone, You are super cute! Are you a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier?
3:15 pm on October 8th, 2012
Hi Barb and Maggie. I am a Golden Doodle. Lots of people tell me I Iook like a Wheatie!
3:19 pm on October 8th, 2012
Boone: Very clever of you to pose in front of that annoying beach sign.
3:21 pm on October 8th, 2012
Boone, you are a cutie. Are you hypoallergenic?
3:27 pm on October 8th, 2012
Boone, That is a cute photo!
3:31 pm on October 8th, 2012
Barb: My condo faces north and I have a mugo pine that does well. It attracts birds but I don’t know about butterflies.
3:33 pm on October 8th, 2012
Barb: Of course, what really attracts birds is seed. I put out unsalted sunflower seeds without the shells. (The birds will shell them but it leaves a mess.)
3:41 pm on October 8th, 2012
Testing my avatar.
3:44 pm on October 8th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: We can’t be of much help here. During the years we lived away from the Island the back yard hedge was not properly trimmed. It has grown out of control and now looks more like a grove of small trees. On the plus side it offers more privacy and does attract lots of birds and butterflies. Just yesterday we enjoyed a symphony of joyful birdsong as we relaxed in the afternoon sunshine.
4:29 pm on October 8th, 2012
Gah! Everyone talking about a cold is giving me one. Stop it….I am very susceptible. I take something else that ends a cold besides Airbornne as I can’t tolerate fizzy drinks (makes me throw up). Going to go find the meds…
Tonight I travel to Kentucky. This is the quote I found for my father’s memorial booklet:
A Good and Decent Man
“He had put his colours on the fabric of our lives and since
he was a good and decent man,
his colours made a bright and shining rainbow.”*
4:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
That’s not an accurate description either…more like a thicket.
4:32 pm on October 8th, 2012
The memorial quote you choose for your father is a good one.
4:34 pm on October 8th, 2012
Boone, you are very cute.
The Giants are down by two. They are playing poorly.
4:40 pm on October 8th, 2012
CHH, That is very touching and complimentry. He must have been a good man!
Bee, We always had bird feeders at the farm. Barb is getting ready to set up a couple here.
BSD, Barb had a boxwood shrub at the farm that was trimmed into the shape of a chicken. Unfortunately Barb didn’t keep it up, and after 4 or 5 years it was just a normal shape.
Boone, Goldendoodle was our second guess.
4:43 pm on October 8th, 2012
Commercial!….I thought the guy was taken to the V-E-T because he had eaten the keyless device. Not because he had an appointment and didn’t want to go….grunt!
Doctor!…My friend just got back from her doctor appt and she is never happy about any of those white-coaters…sniff!…She says she has to go back again in 8 weeks and do all the damned blood work again because her doctor doesn’t trust the “free” blood screening she got at the busy-place….grump!…What a freakin’ racket!…growl!
5:09 pm on October 8th, 2012
The 3 Pugitos up top!
Rio: Is your Friend’s mother back home? How long was her bus ride?
5:20 pm on October 8th, 2012
Pugitos!…I wish I knew those guys…snort!…They look like a lot of fun…heh!
Bus!…Her mother was on the bus coming home for 17 hours – she has jet-lag because she has been awake for so long. She claims Beau and I wouldn’t leave her alone earlier when she tried to lie down and rest. Beau wanted to sit on her head and I wanted to lay on her legs. Nothing wrong with that….sniff!
5:26 pm on October 8th, 2012
17 hours! Good Grief. That’s like flying across the ocean!
5:26 pm on October 8th, 2012
Nats!…We are watching Wookies team, no doubt along with him… snort!…The Nats are behind by one. Lots of time to kick some red bird butt…sniff!
5:28 pm on October 8th, 2012
Bear!…She spent longer than that going there because a guy had a heart-attack on the bus and they had to wait for the emergency crew to arrive and haul him off…gurgle!…Something else happened, but I can’t remember what it was right now…snort!
5:41 pm on October 8th, 2012
English lecture for the day: “Lay” is a transitive verb which means it needs a direct object to be correct. (I will lay the book down on the table. “Book” is the direct object.) “Lie” is an intransitive verb and does not need a direct object. (I will lie down to rest.)
5:51 pm on October 8th, 2012
B: I, for one, would welcome a daily English lecture.
6:05 pm on October 8th, 2012
gasp The Nationals are behind by 4 runs.
6:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
C.hobbit, that is a wonderful thring for your dad.
Story: when the guys plus mechanical engineer nephew were figuring out how to cut the tree down, they decided to throw a rope around one branch and pull in a certain direction. This way when they cut the tree it would not fall on the barn and shed roof. Did I mention that the tree was dead and leaning over the barn and shed?
So when I heard the giant crash, I went outside to see what had happened. The looks on their faces as they stood there amongst the branches and top half of the tree, were exactly the way they were when they were young and caught doing something.
Turns out the tree was so rotten when they pulled on the one branch the whole tree broke. This is going to keep me laughing for quite a while!
6:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
Stover!…Did I mess up the Lie vs Lay thing?…snort!…I first wrote the sentence with ‘lay’ then changed it to ‘lie’…grunt!
6:34 pm on October 8th, 2012
Both!…Actually, I see that I used both Lie and Lay…heh!…So now I am confused as to what I may or may not have done wrong…grunt!…Help?
6:37 pm on October 8th, 2012
Wookie must be chewing on a couch cushion about now.
6:38 pm on October 8th, 2012
Melanie!…Those guys of yours sure do a lot of work when they come to visit…sniff!…My friend wishes her brother would be so useful when he comes over to help…snort!…He is a very slow and precise worker. So anything he does do is done perfectly….chuffle!…But he does not get that much done, so they wait and wait on him…heh!…If Beau and I had thumbs we could help with all the household maintenance given enough treats, etc…chuffle!
6:43 pm on October 8th, 2012
Maskers!…I doubt Wookie is chewing on couch covers right now…heh!…It is only the 5th inning if I am reading the very tiny scorecard in the left top screen…grunt!…The score is now 7 ta 3 and no one appears to be panicking yet…heh!
6:45 pm on October 8th, 2012
Gah!….I lost my Avatar because my email account inadvertantly changed to riotheevilMug…heh!heh!….funny.
6:46 pm on October 8th, 2012
Doh!…It did it again…sniff!…Well, I’ll be a Mugs Puppy!…heh!
6:52 pm on October 8th, 2012
Rio, I have yo say they get the job done. Perfectly? Snickering
I called The Royals’s Mum. She and Storyteller are super sick. They are under the quilt. Neither of them have a voice!
6:52 pm on October 8th, 2012
Rio: It’s the sentence, “I wanted to lay on her legs.” It should be “lie on her legs.” Sorry to be an English teacher but that bothers me almost (but not quite) as much as using “read” as a noun.
Set and sit are another example. “Set” is transitive–I will set the book on the table. “Sit” is intransitive–I will sit down.
6:59 pm on October 8th, 2012
Melanie: I wish I could see a picture of the looks on their faces.
6:59 pm on October 8th, 2012
The Royals under the Quilt! I knew it. What about their big shew this past weekend? Did they plunder through?
6:59 pm on October 8th, 2012
C.Hobbit, the quote for your dad’s memorial is very nice.
Bee, we always get that lie/lay thing mixed up. Mostly when we are putting the ing on, as in “Shiek was lying down”. Is that the correct way?
7:06 pm on October 8th, 2012
CHH, that is a touching and lovely quote. Safe travels.
To the Royals, hoping you are both feeling tip- top soon!
Rio! Gah! Seventeen hours! It is taking the Prof and I 15 hours with 2 stop-overs to get to Alaska. Wasn’t your friend’s mom happy to see you and Beau, especially since Beau seems so protective of her?
7:09 pm on October 8th, 2012
Wose: Probably not…with Beau trying to lie on her head.
7:15 pm on October 8th, 2012
Howlers: Yes, that is correct.
7:15 pm on October 8th, 2012
Bear is trying too hard to impress the teacher. 🙂
7:34 pm on October 8th, 2012
After this weekend I have got to go to bed. Whew.
Haven’t laughed so much for a long time. Tomorrow back to running errands and other yucky stuff.
Oh, does anyone have am old croquet set with wooden balls for adults they would be willing to give me for someone’s Christmas present? I’d be willing to donate to our favorite Hero, Heroine and Pack.
TTFN
7:38 pm on October 8th, 2012
Bear, I know when I had my cat Kelly, whenever the Prof and I went away, I missed him terribly, and we snuggled for quite some time as soon as we got home.
7:58 pm on October 8th, 2012
Wose: Unlike some kats we have known who snub the one returning.
O.Howlers: Just a lucky guess…believe me.
This computter is acting up again. Where’s that technician?
8:00 pm on October 8th, 2012
Melanie: We have not seen a croquet set in many trips around the sun.
8:19 pm on October 8th, 2012
Wookie, GAH The baseball game.
The Nationals will win the next one!!
Mom’s grandparents had one of those wooden croquet sets. Mom played with it when she was a kid, but she has no idea what happened to it. We wish we had it to give to Melanie.
8:24 pm on October 8th, 2012
Grump!…Well, crap. We went over to my other house and waited for the sprinkler system guy who never showed up, all the while the Nationals were playing (or not playing as the case may be)…snort!…Just to find out later that the sprinkler guy was there earlie and every thing had been done without my friend having to tell anyone what to do…heh!…They could have called us so we didn’t have to waste a trip and all that waiting time. Alls well that ends with the sprinklers blown out before the cold season is really here to stay I guess…sniff!
Wheeze!…Back from our walk and ready to watch some other baseball game. Whats on now SiberH???…huh!
8:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
We may be going off-line for a day or so. This computer, that was working at top speed until just a short while ago, is now acting very sluggish and freezing up. Someone is afraid to turn it off for fear it won’t come back on again. No help available until Wednesday afternoon at the earliest.
So….so long for now…hope to be here tomorrow.
Sob – Bear
8:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
We had a wooden croquet set when I was a kid. No idea where it is now.
8:32 pm on October 8th, 2012
B., as soon as Mommy got the treat out, I set my @ss down on the floor.
8:33 pm on October 8th, 2012
Rio< The Yankees and Birds are on TBS now. That is all the games today.
8:34 pm on October 8th, 2012
Melanie: Go to Amazon and type in wooden croquet set…you’ll have several choices.
8:35 pm on October 8th, 2012
Oh Sam…..
8:36 pm on October 8th, 2012
umm Tha Yankees and Birds game is delayed once again tonight.
8:49 pm on October 8th, 2012
snicker. Sammy, very funny. Sorry B.
9:08 pm on October 8th, 2012
Sammie!…I finally figured out what you were going on about back there…heh!snort!
Trip!…We were upstairs talking to her mother about her trip. It was a bad trip. As someone else here know it would be, but she can’t seem to get this across to her mother every time she wants to go to good ole Iowa…snort!
Yankees!…sniff!…vs Baltimore. We are going to watch some of this game tonight. Maybe not the end, but some of it before we hit the big haystack…sniffle!
9:42 pm on October 8th, 2012
Sick!…I’m very worried about Golinka and the Storyteller…snort!…I can’t imagine either of them not having a voice. They both seem to need their voices very much…wuffle!…Here’s to both of them getting better really soon…sneeze!
9:45 pm on October 8th, 2012
Bee, We read your sentence as “Set is a transvestite”. Hey, that doesn’t make any sense! Maybe it’s time to go to bed. Night all.
9:45 pm on October 8th, 2012
YEEP!…The Orioles lead the game 2 ta 1…heh!wooooo!
10:21 pm on October 8th, 2012
Abbie the Kitty is up top doing her YOGA. What a kat!
Night all.
10:30 pm on October 8th, 2012
Rebecca!…Are you Among The Living?…sniff!…Macy’s Maw, hows she doing these days?…wuffle…My friend feels sick but not in a virus sort of way. She feels sick in the way one feels when they have to go to a job they utterly despise…gurgle!
10:37 pm on October 8th, 2012
I’m worried about all those that are sick. I am sure the Royals must be exhausted after having to go through the art show with bad colds. I hope it the went well for them, but they need to rest now.
Rebecca?
Macy’s Mom?
10:44 pm on October 8th, 2012
Writing!…Seriously, does Spencer ever get any time to sit down in his little chair and tip-tap-tippity-tap on his keyboard….sniff!…How does the guy get any real writing done these days? They have him going here, there and over yonder every other day. Not to mention weddings and other normal family get-togethers….grunt!…Makes me tired trying to follow him on a map…wuffle!
11:05 pm on October 8th, 2012
Quit!…Still trying to get my flat-pug head around the fact that our baseballs team’s manager Quit…sniffle!…How do you quit a job like that? And more importantly, can my friend just quit her job? …wuffle!…I would tend to think so, especially if it makes you miserable day in and day out, why keep going day after miserable day??…grunt!
11:20 pm on October 8th, 2012
Rio? Is their hope your friend will get out of that department?
Is there hope in general that her work situation will improve at the busy place?
Mom is making me turn off the computer now, but I will read your answers tomorrow. I wish for a less stressful, more pleasant work environment for your friend.
night all
11:57 pm on October 8th, 2012
Macy and I have been joined by Golinka and the Storyteller under the quilt. We’re passing around the little plastic cup full of nighttime cold medicine. No talking necessary. Cough. Sneeze. Wheeze. Nap.
12:05 am on October 9th, 2012
No fever today but still feels rotten, thanks for asking. Go teams-that-we-want-to-win!
12:08 am on October 9th, 2012
Oops cancel that, fever at 100.4. Has anyone ever put warm mineral oil on cotton in their ear? Dad is dubious but mom swears that her mom did it all the time.
12:10 am on October 9th, 2012
I sure hope no one who is not sick needs to be under the quilt, because it is not a pretty place right now. Maybe we need sections.
12:27 am on October 9th, 2012
Have you heard the one where a Stinky Mama, a Storyteller and a min-pin wall into the quarantine quadrant of the quilt? No?—-me neither.
