“Why not?” Spence says.
“Tennis tournament,” says Admin. “Starts early.”
“How are you hitting them lately?”
“Maybe today will be different.”

Good Saturday morning, all. Waiting at the vet for Gus’s followup. Hoping for good news.
9:07 am on July 21st, 2012
Good morning G & B. Hope the news is good for Gussy.
Haven’t turned on tv yet today, so don’t know if the count is still at 12 dead. Rio was right yesterday. It could have been much worse than it was.
On a much lighter note, here are a couple of youngsters enjoying their time with the baby chicks.

Hi BooBear and Barb and Maggie!
All paws crossed here for Gus’ results…and that is a lot of paws!
Great kids and chicks pictures ! Love those. We got sidetracked last night with pizza and wine, so we didn’t get to read Barb’s great news until this morning. Woo Hoo!!!! Great appraisal result!

Sunny faces on a cloudy day.
Very nice to wake up to, Barb&Magpie!

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?
Getting ready for OTAS and GLAD’s visit!

Melanie: There’s a rumor a new animated Mr. Rogers show is in the works for a whole new generation to enjoy.
You enjoy your visit with OTAS & GLAD. Is this the…I can hardly say it…Trash the Dress Day?
btw: Forgot to say how much we liked your Orchard/Beethoven photo yesterday.
10:12 am on July 21st, 2012
Good Morning All!
What great pictures Barb and Maggie! Nice to see happy faces!
BooBear: Am praying fro good news for Gus, and keeping you and your mom and pop close to my heart.
Lots of singing going on lately, Melanie. Love it!!
Everyone enjoy the sunny day, at least it’s sunny here in Westchester. Smoochers are enjoying some breakfast. Now I know why everyone has waterwings….Prof is taking us to the beach before blur back time!!!!

Good Morning Everyone!
I know some dogs that would enjoy a tennis tournament…the tennis balls.
Gus, thinking of you and hoping we get good news.
10:35 am on July 21st, 2012
We are off for a bit. Morning errands, plus post office for change of address form, thrift shop with another load, more boxes to pick up.
Have a nice morning everyone. BBL

Tournament!…Does Admin ever win any of these tournaments he plays in?….grunt!…I hope he or Spencer can find time to go visit Stinky Mama today at her really big shew…snort!…She should be open for business and selling stuff like crazy by now…heh!
10:37 am on July 21st, 2012
Ok – so the show is open and they have everything set up. Of corse they have already been here for SIX HOURS, so they should be ready. Only 8 more hours today.
But the weather is glorious, the people are coming in droves and life is good.
And we are keeping good thoughts for The Mighty Guster!
10:41 am on July 21st, 2012
Weather!… Its going to be hot again today so I bet we all end up in the basement most of the day…heh!….Her mother doesn’t believe in turning the Air on until absolutely necessary and then she turns it off during the night when we are trying to sleep….grump!
Sewing!…There is a show on PBS called, Sewing With Nancy….heh!…I find that name very appropriate for some reason…snorkel!
10:43 am on July 21st, 2012
Shew!…I knew it! I knew Stinky Mama would be ready for business by now…heh!heh!…Keep us posted Tupper for when the special visitor appears!…Photos! We absolutely have to have photos too. Don’t forget to tell your Stinky Mama that!…snort!
10:44 am on July 21st, 2012
Mom says we have to go work in the garden, as that place has gotten really out of hand. One bed is done (peas and lettuce) and needs to be cleaned out. Others have many many weeds. Plus they want to mow/weed the paths and put mulch in them to see if that will keep those paths easier to walk.
To paraphrase Melanie, Bye-Bye for now (BBFN)

WOOO WOOOO !!!!! The mailman just drove in and gave us a package….it is THE BEAR !!!! He is in his cloak for traveling. Much twirling, dancing, spinning, whirling going on here.
Staff, does Mr. Bear have a first name? He is rather shy and won’t tell us yet.
11:23 am on July 21st, 2012
Mr. Bear probably isn’t shy…just scared to death when he saw the four of you.
11:46 am on July 21st, 2012
BooBear here….Not a real promising vet visit. The vet took Gus out of the carrier and immediately said “Gus looks awful”. NOT what Mom wanted to hear. The potassium treatment did get him back to good levels, but the fluid pills are not working very well. She had to manually drain his chest again and extracted 2xs as much fluid as the first time. He is starting to look “bony” and the vet says that is because his heart isn’t able to pump enough oxygen out to the muscles and they are starting to atrophy (often happens in much older cats where it looks like the muscles are falling off the bones.) But he did handle the procedure very well and is alert and bossy as ever.
Before leaving, Mom asked the vet to be honest and tell her how long we have left with him. The vet told her that it isn’t a very good prognosis with his chest refilling as fast as it is but who knows for sure? As long as he is happy and not in pain, he will be pampered and spoiled here. The quilts will help him feel “better than he is” until the right time for the rainbow bridge. AND he gets a road trip next weekend. Mom & Dad have a family reunion in Dallas and he is going along. The rest of us will have our regular cat sitters (who we just love). But the whole family loves Gus and they will all get to visit with him.
He said to tell you guys that he will be back to posting with me later and thank you for all the thoughts and prayers.

Maggie, love the pictures of the kids and chicks! Are those Peaches’s babies?
12:41 pm on July 21st, 2012
Boo Bear. Thanks for the update; we are all pulling for Lil’ Gus. Also, and I am a first hand authority on this, the vet has said some bad stuff to my mom and dad about me too, but I tell them just to ignore it and it am doing just fine. If I can do it, Gus can too. I know he can.

Guster!…It’s good to know he is still bossy…snort!…Once you lose that, whats the point?….sniff!
12:49 pm on July 21st, 2012
BooBear, Sorry the news was not better. Even tho Gus’s world is getting smaller, as long as it is a pain free and happy world he can still enjoy life. Next weekend will be nice for him to get to say hi to everyone.
7 of the baby chicks were from Peaches’s mom and dad. The other 6 are from the larger chickens that live here. Peaches carries the rare lavender gene and one of her little siblings has it too.
12:50 pm on July 21st, 2012
Keep bossing them Gus and have a good road trip.
12:57 pm on July 21st, 2012
If a cat can’t boss our people around, what good are we? Good for you, Gus. Buddy and I and the Howlers are all in your court. Tell your mommy that the quilts will do her and Boo good too, in this time of worry and concern.
1:23 pm on July 21st, 2012
BooBear, Thanks for the update on Gus. We, along with everyone else, were hoping for better news, but your family is taking good care of him and he knows he is loved. He is a lucky kat to have found such a good home. We are thankful for that.

Not a great start to the day. Our computer was choking and sputtering a while ago so Nana dragged the old one out of the closet to hook up. At first it wouldn’t reboot…when it finally did this was on the screen: WARNING Will Robinson! Immeditely back-up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A Failure may be Imminent.
GASP! We are doomed. If you don’t hear from us for a day or so you will know what happened. #2son will be here tomorrow afternoon to check it out.
1:55 pm on July 21st, 2012
Oh my gosh, BSD. Lost in Space. I would definitely pay attention to that computer warning or you may be trapped in the 1960s forever.

Gus, glad you are able to travel with your family to see family. That will be good.
Heard from Wölfie. Wölfie is okay and needs some quiet time.
If Dan doesn’t stop hitting the doorbell he’s going to be eating it! Sometimes it’s by accident. Most of the time not. Today he was outside and wanted to come in. I was “indisposed” and Zoë was feeding the Pack. You can NOT leave the food with the Pack! Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, she finally told the Pack to stay and NOT to touch the food and told Dan he would have to wait. He waited and so did the Pack.
When Zoë talks with the Alpha female dog voice? Everyone listens.
3:21 pm on July 21st, 2012
Voice!…We hear that Alpha Female voice quite often around here…snort!…Especially when Beau and I start wrestling and running through the house like two maniacs…chuffle!

So Mama says the show is so busy she hasn’t had a chance to write. She did stop to chat for a while with a very important visitor. She asked him lots of questions and got lots of answers. More on that later.
For now- back to work.

Yes, the 1960s were bad: the assassination of a president, the Viet Nam war.

Two weddings. One is his niece and one is his older daughter Lily.
They won the first round of the tennis tournament and lost to the club pro on the second.
He will be working on the next Chet and Bernie book very soon!

Melanie: That blasted doorbell. You must make a rule that it can only be rang once every 5 minutes or so.
My dad has a habit of waiting until you are smack dab in the middle of something crucial then asking you to help him do something that is soooo not important. TMLMO & ISTM (That’s My Loud-Mouthed Opinion & It’s Sticking To Me).
Rio: I’ve sent your friend a couple things I found at estate sales just for her.
BearSpiritDog: I sent you the Playing for Pizza book.
Neither of the above items were sent with tracking because I haven’t learned that lesson. Yet.
3:45 pm on July 21st, 2012
Oooh Golinka and Melanie: Thanks for the picture and info.
Melanie: I love your photo of trees last night. Are those in your yard?

WOW, The Royals’ Mum is an excellent reporter. Thanks for the photo both you lovely ladies.

AJ, Luna and Belle Starr left for camp today. I asked AJ who was in charge. Me or Tenzing. I didn’t get the answer I wanted. Tenzing has been napping all day as if he owns the place.

Well gang – its been a really big day at the Really Big Shew. We were supposed to close at 6, except no one told the shoppers that and they just kept coming. We didnt finally get to start closing our booth til after 7.
And since we were too busy to eat all day, dinner was priority number 1.
And now, 18 hours later, we are ready to cash it in for the day.
We would like to say that we will write more tomorrow, but we actually hope it will be so busy again that we can’t
Rio – those books sound wonderful. That Dawson is something special, huh?
Melanie – give GLAD AND OTAS hugs from us. Wish we could get to see them too.
BSD – here’s hoping Computer Limbo is short lived.
Sending Wolfie hugs and prayers
Thanks to all of you for all the good wishes.

Wha!?…snort!… How did Golinka know it was Dawson?…sniff!sniff!
9:36 pm on July 21st, 2012
Oh!…I guess if I had actually read Dawson’s post earlier I wouldn’t have asked that question…heh!heh!…The post that was right under the photo of PA, Stinky Mama and Leonard may have gotten over-looked at the time…wuffle!
9:46 pm on July 21st, 2012
It sounds like Stinky Mama is having a great shew. Here’s hoping those shoppers are spending a lot at Golinka’s booth!
I have it on good authority that Dawson is awesome and it’s not just because it rhymes.
9:52 pm on July 21st, 2012
Books!…Both of the books are like brand new…snort!…Their spines have not been broken and their is no food stains or writing in either of them….heh!heh!…They’ve just been waiting all their life to find my friend…wuffle!

Three cheers for Dawson!
Rio: Any chance we’ll see some photos of your friend’s projects?
10:13 pm on July 21st, 2012
Rio… When I went to quilt market I got a lapel pin that says I Sew With Nancy. Snicker….
OHowlers. Bear does have a first name. It is on one of his paws I think. Check there. If not I have to look it up in my bear book which is in a safe place. (Safe from me anyway)
Rio,(again) Dawson never met a book she could resist.
10:29 pm on July 21st, 2012
Estate!…I bet no one else at that Estate Sale knew what those books were about except for Dawson and the dead person…snort!

I’ve never met an evil pug I couldn’t resist. At least it is a theory…
To think I would never had heard of quilling if I hadn’t came to this here blog. What a great talent!

Rebecca!…There is one project in these old books that caught my friends eye right away..snort!…If she manages to get that one made she says she will let me post a photo of it…chuffle!

Wheeze!…We just had our walk…grunt!…Its very quiet outside tonight. No other guys around to huffle and gruffle with as we passed by…sniff!…Everyone is gone or locked up tight for the evening…grunt!
Game!… Its a close one tonight!…snort!… 6 ta 5 and the Rockies are winning so far…heh!heh!
10:37 pm on July 21st, 2012
It is raining pugs and corgis tonight. Tenzing would like me to do chores, build a fire and settle in for watching a video of his choosing.
10:40 pm on July 21st, 2012
Fire!…Are you Krazy!…wheeze!
10:52 pm on July 21st, 2012
Quilling!
There is another kind of quilling and that is sewing with porcupine quills. The Dene Natives make birch bark baskets and decorate them with flowers, birds or scenery made by stringing or sewing on porcupine quills (which are hollow and can be used like an elongated bead). That’s why the books caught my eye. When I picked them up and saw what they were I couldn’t believe it! It was the 3rd day of an estate sale and the house was still full of stuff. I can see the lady saying, “I know I have those quilling books here somewhere…I put them in a safe place!” And then 35 years later I found them.
10:59 pm on July 21st, 2012
Dawson!…You know which project my friend has her eye on….heh!…Tomorrow if she doesn’t get carried away doing “other” stuff like laundry and grocery shopping and resume writing and mopping and picking chilis and roasting them which will lead to making a pot of boiling fire she calls green chili…wheeeze!…If none of that stuff happens then she will be able to start that project – the one she has her eye on…chuffle!

Rio? You mean your green chili is ready to pick? The green chili is not ready here yet.
11:04 pm on July 21st, 2012
Porcupine! Earlier this week a porcupine struck Snowhook. Annabelle sat quietly and patiently in AJ’s lap while he pulled quill after quill from her snout. Garcia was also hit. If AJ hadn’t brought them to Garcia’s attention he would likely be happy to wander around with a snout full of quills. AJ said Garcia looked at him as if to say, “Yeah, so?” when AJ pointed out (pun intended) Garcia’s newest accessories.
11:07 pm on July 21st, 2012
Chilis!…Those guys have a gallon bag of chilis her mother picked a few days ago – and now there are a lot more ready to be picked…sniff!… They even have something to put them in to roast them on the grill so they can easily turn them….heh!….All systems Go-Chili!
11:17 pm on July 21st, 2012
Yeep!… The Giant was able to pull the quills out of those guys?….gasp!… Do they have anything left of their noses?…yeeep!
11:21 pm on July 21st, 2012
Rio: AJ didn’t have any problem pulling the quills. Annabelle and Garcia have a lot of trust in him. Both dogs thanked AJ for his services and are happy and well.
11:23 pm on July 21st, 2012
Wow!…I bet the Giant could even get that snot off of Beaus nose…snort!
11:26 pm on July 21st, 2012
The Giant is quite amazing, but he does have limits…

As long as Gus has quality and happiness in life–it is worth it.
Finally I am driving to Anchorage Monday to rescue a pregnant husky. Well, actually there are three pregnant huskies and I am hoping two fit in my car. #amIreadyforthis?

CHobbit: I will be working in Anchorage on Monday and Tuesday, but if you need to stop for a break on your drive either to or from, let me know. You are welcome in the kennel.

Rebecca, can’t you let C Harris in the house?
1:02 am on July 22nd, 2012
Macy: Only if I lock the doors.
AJ dropped by tonight after the day on the river. I think part of his surprise visit was to drop of Luna and Belle Starr and to make sure I did as I was told and locked the doors. Shut and click.
2:31 am on July 22nd, 2012
Rose: Luna and I arrived home safe and sound. Instead of going straight home, we blurred to AJ’s raft on the river. He was surprised to see Mama and I, but I daresay he was shocked, stunned even, when KatDog Masquers blurred and landed on is head. We’ve aired off our water wings and once they dried stored them for our next trip to the beach. Masquers is staying the night at the kennel. My Two-Legged says she is allergic, but I just ignore her…
