“Have a nice drive on 95 on a Friday afternoon,” Admin says on the phone.

“It’ll be all right,” says Spence.

“Heh heh.”

Good morning, y’all! Lots to do today! I have to supervise Mom and Dad working on the laundry room. Dad’s in there scraping and getting ready to paint. Mom pulled the window all apart and now is going to try to put it together again. It’s one of those old windows in this old house — 1888, remember — and it has weights in the window frame to keep the window open. Only the cords that go on the weights were both broken, so they had to use a can of spray paint to hold the window open! Mom had to pull the frame apart to get to the weights. And then she had to call and drive all around to find something to replace the cord with. She couldn’t find any of the cord, but she finally found the special window sash chain, so she’s using that instead. And then she has to scrape the layers of paint off the frame to see if she can get it to move better. And then she’s going to insulate the whole thing to keep the cold air out. Paws crossed everyone! If this works, she’s going to tackle the windows in the rest of the house.

    Good Morning All,

Spence, please be careful! Been there, done that. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Zoe is with Rosalyn at the vets. She looks better today, but still not tip-top.

Kirby, we know those windows well. We have original 1850ish windows here. Fortunately for us, the guy who lived here for one year before us spent that entire year rebuilding the frames and chains and all that stuff. So they work well. He also made wooden storm windows for them. They are the old-fashioned kind that you have to hook on at the top and then screw in the bottom. That is a major hassle for Pop every Spring and every Fall.

From last night’s blog which we read this morning:
Melanie, keep Ros under the quilt. It sounds like her tummy is going thru what Kat’s did way back in January. That was the night she had to be at the Emergency Vet place and all our money disappeared.
T&G: Thank you for what you said about our mom last night. She got teary-eyed reading that. We don’t know what is the big deal. We were happy to come live here and make her life so much better.
Terry, well do you or don’t you have an ARC of AFOC?

Be careful Spence! Drives are the most fun on the roads Chet and Bernie travel. 95 is not one of those drives.

Kirby, your folks aren’t having a fun summer so far, but it will be really nice when the work is finished. We love the idea your house was built in 1888.

Whew, Rio made it through the night!

  33. Kirby T. Penworthy
    1:38 pm on June 8th, 2012

B&M: Mom’s not doing all the windows at once! She’ll do them as she can. The big thing is insulating the well where the weights are — they’re supposed to let lots of cold air in during the winter. This house is very leaky, so the more stuff we can seal, the better.

Oh, and that’s some blind date Barb has!!!

No Melanie, it is a 2-legged with no feathers.

I knew that would get a response youse!!

Favorite son Josh called the other day and asked Barb if this guy, Brian, could spend the night at our house. He is reping the bike shop at races this summer, and could not find a place to stay in Galena where the races are being held Sat. & Sunday. He has his own business, is 40, divorced, has long hair and a six-pack. (Do you know what that is Bee?) Barb’s first question to Josh was “Does he like animals?”

That may seem like a strange question, but we knew if Josh and Jess could vouch for him, he would be ok. Barb’s first thought was Jordan, our super-cute vet-tech, who is single and looking for an animal lover type guy. When Josh said he has 5 cats, we knew he could stay and we were calling Jordy to see if she could join us for dinner tomorrow. Jordy has 2 cats. Umm, could love be far behind?

    2:42 pm on June 8th, 2012

Glad I’ll Have Another is OK, we were worried. At least he wasn’t kept in the race.

And on the subject of horses, Lily is heading to her first horse back riding lesson this afternoon. Much better to have your own horse to ride, but she is still excited. Her own mom was a skilled rider by her age (10). We have pictures of Kelly sitting on a horse, bareback, no bridle, just using her legs and the horse mane to guide her horse around the pasture. Awesome!

  52. Barb & Maggie

Maggie, Mommie is a weenie and would probably not drive alone with Annie in the trailer. So if Daddy can’t go she will likely stay home. Altho her friend is trying to convince her otherwise.

  58. Tupper and Gilly
    3:30 pm on June 8th, 2012

Buddy (whispering) – our Mama is a weenie too, but there have been times that she had to do something by herself. It scared the bejeebers out of her, but she did it. And she was happy she did.
We hope that both your folks get to go, cuz it sounds like fun, but if your Dad can’t go, we hope your Mom does.

  59. Barb & Maggie
    3:51 pm on June 8th, 2012

What T & G said. It won’t be as much fun without dad, but still go.

  60. Buddy
    3:52 pm on June 8th, 2012

T&G: If our mommy had to drive Annie somewhere for an emergency, you can be sure she could/would do it. But for a completely fun event, it doesn’t sound like too much fun. Annie and Ned are a team now.

  61. BearSpiritDog

Buddy: Can your mom’s friend help with the trailer?

If only the guest was 15 to 20 years older . . sigh.

    Beautiful Annie!

I came home from the store, honked the horn, put the groceries on the West Wing steps. Usually Zoë hears this and starts taking them into the house. I had gotten some plants that I needed to put in back so started doing that. By the time I was coming around the house near the orchard THERE WAS A GROWN UP BLACK BEAR walking through our orchard.

I backed up to the living room window and whispered for Zoe to help me because she hadn’t heard me honk the horn. Nobody but dogs. I started with the raw roasting chicken making sure that I never turned my back on the bear and got the groceries in the house. By the time the dogs got around to the stockade and puppy play yard they could smell it, but it was across the street and in the neighbors yard. Whew. Lots of barking.

    Adrenalin rush for me!

OMD !!! Melanie, stay safe and keep the pack inside! WOW Holy Jeepers! A BEAR !!!
Annie’s registered name is Psy Ann becuae her daddy is All Psyched Upp whose sire is Arabian Nationals Reserve Champion Padron’s Psyche. Her dam (mom) is Shai Ann whose sire is National Champion (same year) Simeon Shai. Her name is a combnation of the two. She was bred to the 9s as they say. And she thinks she is people. That picture is when she was 6. She is now 13. We need to find a more current one. We have lots of them hanging around the house, that were taken by equine photographers on various Paper Chases, but they are not digitized.

  69. OleyHowlers
    5:10 pm on June 8th, 2012

O.K. we found one of the pictures taken on a Paper Chase. It was a very cold day, and Annie already had a start on her winter fur. But it is a recent one. Mom is on Annie and Pop is on Chato. His horse, GT Chato was named for some Western movie. We didn’t name him, but Mom and Pop did name Annie Psy Ann. She named herself “Annie”.

    6:22 pm on June 8th, 2012

I liked the picture of the cat with no legs. Just floating in space.

I have to say with the first glance I thought one of the Pack was loose. Second thing I did was reach for the cell phone to take a picture. It wasn’t in my pocket I had put in my purse something I never do, drat.

I’m not sure how long I’m staying awake. Last two days gardening have been great. Today I put in the Bachelor Buttons, beets, bunching onions (thanks Barb) and spinach seeds. I planted two white Echinacea, two Black-eyed Susans, two Bee Balm, three snapdragons and 3 zinnias. When they start bushing out they should be very pretty.

T & G, Yes that was her first lesson. She has probably been on a pony or horse before, but this was first serious time on board. She loves animals (it’s in her dna) and she likes sports but I am not sure you would call her a natural athlete.

As far as them moving this direction, that is not going to happen. All the grands are involved in school and social activities, and both SIL and son have businesses established back there. It will definitely be us moving. No if or ands.

We are heading to bed shortly. Got a busy day tomorrow with the hunk arriving late afternoon. Tee hee.

Mom and Pop are heading out to Ride and Seek but she asked us to tell Barb this (about Arabs and psycho):
One year when she went to Arabian Nationals there she fell head over heels over a stallion named Eternety. He ended up winning National Champion that year, but Mom followed him from qualifying round to qualifying round. After he won the final, she was the first one to pet him when he left the ring, and his handler/trainer took his Eternety pin off of his lapel and gave it to her. She still has it hanging in her office. She was even drinking champagne with all of the Eternety folks! ha ha her one brush with fame. She still has an entire wall of the tack room covered with Eternety pictures.
Anyway, she had tried talking Pop out of buying a horse and letting her breed Annie to Eternety. She thought she could name the baby “Eternally Psycho”. Pop thought that sounded pretty scary! heh heh
