Good morning, y’all! Wow, when Spence say “No Post Today” today, he really meant it! Usually he at least writes a little something, but today the headline lived up to its name!
Mom says we’re driving her crazy! Lately we’ve been playing “Musical Dishes” at breakfast. I eat a little of my food, then I race to Possum’s dish to eat her kat food, while she races to Bubbie’s dish to eat her food. (Bubbie’s on special diet, so they get different kinds of food.) At the same time, Bubbie samples my cuisine. I don’t know why Mom gets so upset — it’s all good!!!

Good morning Kirby and all.
Read last night’s posts and now we know Terri is the four-footed one. Thanks for splainin’.
Have to dash, out the door early this morning. Barb says I have to go to the V E T and I’m not going to like it. Later all y’all.
7:15 am on March 23rd, 2012
KirbyT: there is a game played in the kennel of he or she with the most dog dishes win. How is that Quigley, for example can end up with eight dog dishes in his house? Persuasion.
Belle Starr wishes she had magic ears like Terri. Something about ‘useful I getting what she wants,’ and ‘couldn’t hurt,’ have been muttered.

Good Morning All!
Bella, you’re up! Are you feeling okay?
Terri, please tell your friend that I love the web site. The horses are as beautiful as you are (in a different way of course). I also like the link to the amber alert for dogs.
I would like to ask your two footed (Hi Dorothy!) about the Sphere house.
Stopping that med has helped some. Feel better, just have to see if it works on the BP.
Dan is not doing too well. Let’s keep him stuffed under the quilt.

Greetings Kirby, B&M, and Rebecca!
Wow, no post at all!!! How mysterious!
Kirby: Sometimes I play musical plates with the Prof and eat more from his plate than mine.
Barb: How are you feeling this morning? Hope you are feeling closer to tip-top!
Maggie: Good luck at the v-e-t!
Rebecca: Hope you and AJ have recovered from the Iditarod. You said you were sick…Have the doggies wait on you paw and paw.
Belle Starr: Are you telling me batting you big browns doesn’t work with your four-legged mama anymore??? When can you come to New York? You big browns are very influential with me!!
Hope everyone enjoys their Friday!
8:11 am on March 23rd, 2012
Melanie: I have a cold that I think I’ve been fighting for a while. Hit yesterday when I was at work. I’m awake because our post race sleep cycle is still off. Dan is snug as a bug in a rug in the quilt.
8:16 am on March 23rd, 2012
Rose: I have my two legged mama wrapped around my tail whether she admits it or not. Now that Jodi the puppy is bigger than me, I’m back to being the smallest and most adorable and cutest and wonderful. I don’t have any problem getting my way, but I can’t help but think that magic ears would make quick work of getting what I want. It’s a time saver, really. As for when I’m coming to take care of you and the Professor? I will be there as soon as my two legged gets my sparkly pink back pack from the top shelf in the closet. She said she put it there so Jodi, the puppy not the person wouldn’t eat it.
8:35 am on March 23rd, 2012
I hope that all is well with PSQA. This is a first.
Rebecca, you are finally sounding like yourself! Welcome back!
8:37 am on March 23rd, 2012
Belle Starr: Maybe that magic ear thingjust might do the trick. I might be able to get what I want with the Prof. He gets very grumbly when I spend money on pretty, sparkly things and mukluks. Batting my big, brown eyes doesn’t seem to work so well.
In any case, you were always the most adorable, wonderful, and cutest. I was the baby girl in my family, and my pop thought I was the bee’s knees! 🙂
That was a good idea to put your sparkly, pink back pack on a high self. I wouldn’t want it to get eaten.
8:38 am on March 23rd, 2012
Sending puppy kisses to Dan.
Slurp!
8:39 am on March 23rd, 2012
Oh, and welcome Terri and Pal! Youse guys stay up way past my bedtime. Terri, you are quite the looker!
8:40 am on March 23rd, 2012
Rose: I’ve never seen B’s knees, but they must be spectacular.
8:40 am on March 23rd, 2012
No comment then.
8:53 am on March 23rd, 2012
Lost!….Where’s Spencer and Admin?….grunt!….I checked their travel schedule and they are not scheduled to go anywhere until June…sniff!….This is very, very mysterious. …wuffle!
8:58 am on March 23rd, 2012
Belle Starr: I’m sure they are! 🙂
Tyb: Are you and your pop okay???
9:17 am on March 23rd, 2012
Poor Terri and Dorothy. We have a language of our own here on the blog. I pity a newbie trying to figure out what we are talking about. Just stick with us, and eventually it will all make sense!
9:19 am on March 23rd, 2012
Mr. Tibbs!… You know, I was thinking about Mr. Tibbs early this morning…sniff!… Last thing I remember him mentioning on this here blog was something about Lent. …snort!… Maybe he has given up the Blog for Lent. ….grunt!…I’m just supposing, or assuming, and even possibly guessing…heh!
9:26 am on March 23rd, 2012
Newbies!….Seems to me Dorothy and Toto know whats going on – its youse guys who were all confused yesterday…grunt!

Greetings Plunderpack from the middle of the mitten. Mom is feeling better, but decided to lay low and stay on the couch for another day. She talked to a coworker and her boss’ boss to clear up some stuff at her busy place. Mom made coffee and put some bacon in the oven to cook. I love it when she cooks bacon.
Since our move to the middle of the mitten last summer, mom has been looking for a 2-drawer file cabinet. Mom used to have a 4-drawer, but she emptied the stuff out of it and most of it belonged to my 2-legged brother. Mom says now that she doesn’t have to save years of school papers, a 2-drawer is all we need. After 8 months she had no success at Goodwill, yardsales or Craigs list, she decided to buy a 2-drawer. Of course, the very next day, Sissy calls, she found a 2-drawer at a thrift shop. Mom said carpola and kept the new 2-drawer. Mom spent some time yesterday afternoon when she started to feel better to set up the cabinet and fill it with papers in boxes that she hid in her closet. Mom needs to make some trips to the dumpster cause she’s been making a mess, organizing and purging.
After mom got tired with that, she watched all her Twilight movies. Mom’s been cleaning out her DVR and playing games on her cell phone in between naps.
I’ve been watching over mom, making sure she takes it easy. Mom could tell I was taking care of her all night because when she woke up this morning my kong was in her bed. She just giggled and made a goofy face at me. I love that face she makes.
9:35 am on March 23rd, 2012
Jasper, I’m glad that you’ve helped your mom feel tip-top!
9:38 am on March 23rd, 2012
Ohhhh. Sniff. Cough. Cough.
Is terrible. Natasha feels more like Camille, but silly doctor says is “just cold”. HA! Is not possible.
Ve are going to lay on sofa, von paw draped dramatically over fevered brow, smell of vicks vaporub replacing exotic scent of Natasha’s signature perfume. Ve need big, strong, handsome male bringing us the soup of chickens and patting our paw.
Vonder vhat Siber is doing for the day?
9:44 am on March 23rd, 2012
SiberH!…If he’s smart he will stay outside and dig a big hole so he can hide in it…heh!heh!
10:17 am on March 23rd, 2012
I know Terri is smart, but there are just some things that take awile: Crapola, youse guys, skillet throwing, The Quilt, hole digging, Natasha, and on and on.
10:19 am on March 23rd, 2012
Oh, and don’t forget cheescake and NOSWAD!
10:30 am on March 23rd, 2012
T&G: Please check your SDD.
10:31 am on March 23rd, 2012
There’s also iPaw, wonderfluffed, carpola, facebookie, SDD, Wookiemobile, blurring, YSAS and OTAS, tail with it.
Stay with us Terri and Pal.
10:32 am on March 23rd, 2012
I forgot “splort”–the sound of cats spitting up furballs.
10:35 am on March 23rd, 2012
Oh, and don’t forgot the dreaded s-h-o-e-s……
10:36 am on March 23rd, 2012
I’m researching the origin of the expression “bee’s knees.” Thinking about it has taken me to the last sentence of Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. Interesting the way the mind works.
By the way, I heard from TYB yesterday. He directed me to a painting which authorities now say was by van Gogh.
10:37 am on March 23rd, 2012
Wasn’t there talk of compiling a Plunderer’s dictionary at one point?
Newfmobile
10:40 am on March 23rd, 2012
Hiding would be a very good idea today. Can I get cold germs from the blog?
All of you …hope you feel better soon. Jasper, when your mom feels tip-top again, maybe you could go back to posting your dinner menus.
Natasha, I don’t know how to make chicken soup, but I could bring you a chicken.
Where is Macy? I have something to tell her about the Texas Rangers whenever she shows up.
10:59 am on March 23rd, 2012
hey everyone. Mama is working on her bear while the sun is shining. She has to wait for some stuff to dry so she is letting us check in.
Hope everyone who has that awful cold is feeling better.
Bella – checked and responded.
Tipper says she doesn’t need magic ears. She is already too adorable for words
11:00 am on March 23rd, 2012
Dam Dam Dam
When will this ipaw learn TUPPER – not “tipper”.
Sheesh
11:55 am on March 23rd, 2012
Hope Dan feels better.
Barb still has the blahs, but is peeking out from under the Quilt.
Oh and we forgot about Rockie the Squirrel and the Bedbugs. Thanks for all the additions we forgot.
Must nap.
12:19 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Macy: Are you okay? Miss you…
12:27 pm on March 23rd, 2012

There are no excuses for late papers or for not posting on the blog.
12:49 pm on March 23rd, 2012
The daffodils, irises, and dandelions are out and the butterflies are flittering about. The blossoms are on the fruit trees. Good grief!

1:20 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Two good stories for the day.
Patsy (9) and her mom, Ellie (13) are doing well. Ellie is starting a new shot regimen. It is expensive (mostly because our dogs are really big) for the first month and then goes to one shot a month. It’s called “Adequan Canine”. It’s polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan. Whew. This is for arthritis. The vet says she wishes it was cheaper because she would put all dogs (especially large ones) on it. She has also tried it with cats. Cats have a hard time with arthritis meds. The ones she has tried this with are responding well.

YSAS went off to work background this morning on L&O, SVU.
He starts telling me about a text he got from a guy called Mike.
He had gotten to know Mike on Boardwalk, then they kept bumping into each other when going up for roles. Mike would get them.
As YSAS put it, he’s a much handsomer me. I don’t see how that is possible, but that could just be me.
A week ago Mike had sent McKey an email with a script in it. Asked him to read it and tell him what he thought.
I also read it. Excellent script, depressing, about a man who loses his ability to be human because of deep grief.
YSAS and I discussed it. Both of us were very impressed with it.
YSAS texted him telling him what he thought.
Mike texted back last night. He said, “Great. Who’s your agent?”
YSAS texted back her name.
Then he said, “When the funding comes through, I’ll get in touch with her.”
YSAS said, “Great!”
YSAS is telling me this and I said, “Which part?”
And he started laughing, he had been so excited he forgot to ask!!!
“My head was just saying, ‘Oh, my God, Oh, my God, Oh, my God’ and I didn’t think to ask!”
What a nut.
1:42 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Good work in tracking down SQPA Commander Rio.
Terri & Pal: Youse really are Nite Owls! We have copied the info you posted on Coke…quite a list with lots of uses for it…BUT NOT TO DRINK!!! Should have known from our HS science experiments…coke and the rusty nail.
Melanie: What happened at Dan’s doc appointment yesterday? Have they figured a way to lower his BP?
Great news for YSAS! His day is coming. All the great ones started out this way.
Another one…TMG
2:09 pm on March 23rd, 2012
BSD, they are working on Dan’s BP.
This is from The Royals’ Mum. She has her hands in fiberglass and can not write. Also why can’t iPaw put up pictures on the blog? Scratching head here.
This is the bear as of right now. He has fiberglass screen overalls that will soon be covered with fiberglass fabric. And his face has the first layer of sculpturing
2:12 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Also Linda our Lurker says this about the adequan.
That medicine is what I supply for the horse at the refuge we are helping to support. Her name is Liz-Beth, she is an old abused plow horse, and the adequan has made all the difference in her life! … she is healthy and happy and agile and mobile! What a gift this medicine is!
2:16 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Clarkson!…snort!…Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson!…grunt!
2:23 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Corgi!…Is that Tippy or Gilly that I see laying out on the deck?…snort!
3:21 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Terri’s Pal, you read Thereby Hangs a Tail which is about Princess. Well, I’m going to play the part of Princess when the book becomes a movie! I need longer hair and my family keeps getting me cut short. Siber-H suggested hair extensions so I’ll be all ready. Moi, moi, moi!
3:22 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rose: Yesterday when I asked you about Tebow playing for the Jets what I meant to say was…what is NY saying about the trade?
Lovely sunny day here…not warm…but sunny. sigh.
Off to the free books place…then the market.
3:31 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Taking a break from fiberglass. Ick – this is messy stuff!!!
Rio – that is Gilly’s butt behind the bear. You can tell cuz she does the “frogger-dogger” thing with her hind legs that some Corgis do.
Tupper is too much of a lady.
Gilly was on the lookout for more bears.
3:55 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Sphere: Wiki Info
Princess Sam – You look like the Princess I imagined from the book 🙂 The descriptions that Chet gives of dogs — well, I suppose it’s meant to make readers wonder a bit 😉
And yes everybody — most of your stuff is way over my head … so I just read the bits I can understand. I suppose it’s not that different from what Terri does.
I’m starting to get up during daylight … actually up in time today to go pay property taxes at local municipal office. Pat on the back for me 😉
3:56 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Melanie, Mom has known dogs that have done great on Adequan. It’s been around for awhile. The vets first used it on horses.
This is exciting about YSAS! I hope the funding comes through soon. The story sounds interesting and original.
4:15 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Terri: Who’s your feline friend? Reminds us of Bear & moi…similar coloring.
Interesting link on the Biosphere, Pal. I see it was featured in a Battlestar Galactica episode. Kool!
5:32 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Terri: Feel free to ask if you don’t understand something. We were all new here once, some of us more so than others.
6:00 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Terri; I second what Snowhook Bella said…feel free to ask.
REBECCA!!! I got my photograph today in the mail. Thank you for returning it so quickly because I know you have been busy and sick.
I am thrilled! Just think, I have been through all those legendary places on the Iditarod trail…the Steps, the Gorge, the Burn, the Yukon, the Ice, and NOME!! Thank AJ for me for doing this. It meant a lot to me. sniff
6:18 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Masquers: re: Tim Tebow and the Jets
Opinion is mixed here in the sports Capitol of the world. Most people like me wonder why Sanchez’s contract was extended only to pick ip TT as a back-up QB. On the other paw, a lot of people are very excited by the trade. As far as marketing goes, Tebow’s number 15 jersey is a big ticket item here in the Big Apple. ( Whispering) I think he’s kind of cute myself! 🙂
6:29 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rebecca and AJ: Thank you for taking Brandy’s picture to Nome. I know he had a great time. Also, thank you for the 2012 Iditarod patch. Let’s see….should I put it on my black Stormy Kromer?
6:29 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rebecca: I got my friend Zelda’s picture and mine back today too! I’m so excited and honored that we both traveled on AJ’s sled to Nome!
A special thanks to Tyb’s pop who printed up terrific copies on the photo’s.
So, are we doing this again next year?? 🙂
6:35 pm on March 23rd, 2012
I’m back from Sam’s where I was for a couple of days. Very busy but wonderful. First I have to correct a misconception that I think happened because Mollypop and Sam were called cousins. Really, Sam’s Mom is my daughter, but our family dogs like Emma Pug are all called cousins. It’s just easier. So anyhow, Sam’s Mom hosted a Hobart and William Smith reception for the college president, alumni, students, and applicants. The invitations were sent out only to those in a zip code beginning with our three digits. One hundred people accepted! We had quite an evening.
6:41 pm on March 23rd, 2012
The Hills of Western MA got their picture too! We are framing it with the patch. Now I wish I had one for my SK hat like B.Stover! Thank you and AJ for making that possible. Nine Newfs to Nome!!!
Turns out that YSAS didn’t have to be a cop today. He was in a bar and was moved to a hospital where he was an orderly. Let’s see. UNIONS!! He got paid for 8 hours, two bumps for two changes of wardrobe, one bump because they changed locations and a meal penalty because he never got lunch.
Both Ros and Ellie are moving better. Zoe is thinking of getting a shot. I told her she would have to be able to bark better than she does now.
6:42 pm on March 23rd, 2012
I spent the afternoon alone! alone! alone! because mom left. She saw the Hunger Games movie. Mom says it closely follows the book and was worth seeing.
Mom has a split pea soup in the crockpot and just took a pizza out of the oven.
This was mom’s first travels out and about in 4 days and she’s tuckered out.
Been raining here all day.
Welcome Terri and pal, we live in the middle of the mitten. Where ’bouts you from?
6:45 pm on March 23rd, 2012
7:16 pm on March 23rd, 2012
We got our pictures too. Its a shame that the Wrotten Kats’ picture fell out of the envelope just when Gilly was walking thru with mud on her feet….tee hee
Bella, would you check your SDD, pretty please?
7:22 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Hungar!…Beau and I play the Hungar Games all day long…snort!…I always win…sniff!
Walk!…She says we are saddling-up and going for a long walk in a little bit…wheeze!…I don’t wanna…sneeze!
7:25 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Photos!…Whoa! We did not expect to get our photos back…grunt!…I thought AJ and Rebecca were going to keep them as mementos of all of us…snorkel!
7:29 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Stinky Mama: Checked and responded.
SiberH: All but a couple of the pictures were sent from Nome. I was hoping to get the Nome processing stamp on the envelop for youse.
I bet Snowhook was the only team with Kats, a horse, pugs, corgis, fierce tails and lurkers on the trail!
Rose: To answer your question: yup!
7:32 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rio: I thought it would be neat to send you your picture back from the final checkpoint so you could say that this here picture went on that there race. I did take photos of all the photos so I would have my own memories of AJ companions on the trail. Snort!
7:32 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rio – we are thrilled to have our paws on something that actually made it down the Steps, and the Burn and over the Ice…..
Ahem – attention please all Plunderers.
We would like to hold one of the blogs’ 9 o’clock prayer meetings. Our Auntie Melanie and Zoe are very concerned and stressed tonight. Dan has had a bad day and needs some of the great powerful uplifting that the Plunderers’ prayers provide.
Please join us here at 9 – and let us know right away if anyone has any other concerns that they would like brought forth.
7:36 pm on March 23rd, 2012

8:00 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Creator – we thank you for another day in your glorious world. Spring is coming to the earth, and everything is being renewed. There is peeping of frogs, and joyous songs of birds. The earth is awakening and we are surrounded by beauty.
Creator – we come to ask you tonight to watch over one of our families. Our friend Dan is tired, his body is weary and it has forgotten how to be renewed.
Our friends Zoe and Melanie are tired, their spirits are weary and have forgotten how to be renewed.
Creator – we ask you to lift Dan, hold him gently, and ease his discomfort. Let our prayers support him and help him. Let the love we have for him ease his difficulties and make his path smoother.
Creator – we ask you to lift Zoe and Melanie and hold them gently as they care for Dan. Let our prayers support them and ease their minds and souls. Let the love we have for them make their days smoother, let them sleep softly and find restorative rest so that they have the strength to cope with another day. Let them feel all the love we send them, let them know that they are not alone when the troubles come and challenge their peace.
Creator – we know that we are on this earth by your plan. We accept that our path is what it shall be. We come to you to ask that that path be a place of beauty and peace for all of us.
Creator – we thank you for this soft, new day in your glorious world. Spring is coming to the earth, and everything is being renewed. There is peeping of frogs, and joyous songs of birds. The earth is awakening and we are surrounded by beauty. Let us walk in that beauty on your earth.
Amen

8:53 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rebecca, That is okay if my envelope doesn’t have a Nome postmark. The important thing is I, ME, ME, ME, made it to Nome.
I couldn’t have done it without Snowhook.
9:00 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Bella – interesting thing – our envelope didn’t have any kind of post mark, cancellation or other post office ink.
we thought you sent it by Wolfie Blur
9:03 pm on March 23rd, 2012
SiberH and T&G: Both of your envelopes should have the Nome post mark on them. There was something blurry going on behind the counter when I mailed them in Nome, but I couldn’t quite make it out. ;). Wolfie, was that you?
9:10 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Or was it TMG? Gasp!
9:21 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Relaxing!….We are trying to calm down and relax after hearing about Dan….sniff!…So she turned on Grimm….grunt!wheeze!….Its about Dragons this week. This show is not calming my pug nerves any…gasp!
9:39 pm on March 23rd, 2012
T&G, thanks for the great prayer for Dan. There is so much in it that is hard to say but wonderful to hear.
Rebecca, I know I didn’t send a picture for you to take to Nome. But today I got an envelope from willow AK. In it was a copy of my chet the dog badge. You copied it and took it to Nome anyway. Sniff. I am extremely grateful. sniff sniff.
There were no postmarks on my envelope either, but I know that the little lines across the bottom spell NOME in postal service talk.

Staff: I’m grinning from ear to ear. And, you were worried you’d weigh the sled down…

Sled!…AbbieTheKat would have weighed the sled down…snort!

Rebecca, No, my envelope doesn’t have the Nome postmark. There is a faint line where the post office may have tried to print it, but as Staff says, the little lines across the bottom spell Nome.

Bella, if I would have been in Nome, I would have blurred my way into the banquet and tripped a certain somebody when he went up to claim a certain sportsman award!
Wasn’t me!

Rio: Do you think Abbie weighs more than a pug in his granny’s panties?

Did Granny’s panties make it to Nome!?

Wolfie: it meant a lot to me that Ramey even mentioned AJs assistance. Ramey had a hell of a run coming from the back othe pack to take 3rd. He could have chose to speak about that, but instead he focused on thanking AJ. Keep in mind that the Giant is a no name compared to LM.
10:15 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Granny!…We never ever called Grandma Granny…grunt!…She would not have liked that at all…sniff!…So if you know whats good for you, you will not refer to her as Granny either…grump!….Beau still weighs less than me, but not nearly as much as AbbieTheKat…snort!
10:17 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Rebecca — No real postmark on our stamp either, but that actually doesn’t matter at all; it was a wonderful surprise getting the photo back along with the patch, and it was incredibly great fun being on the trail will AJ and the team and all my fellow Plunderers.
What a beautiful prayer Amalia. We are all pulling so hard for Dan, and also that Melanie and Zoe continue to have the strength and resilience they need in this difficult time.

Rio: Gulp! No offense intended at the title used when referring to the makings of Beau’s harness.

Terri, Flower & Dorothy live in eastern Ontario (Canada) between the Ottawa River and St. Lawrence River. We’re having a wildly warm March with no snow left.
Is there a way to see a list with pics of Chet’s friends?
10:22 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Well grump! I was hopeful that it would show ‘Nome’ in something short of glittering lights so youse all would know you made it to the burled arch with the rest of the team.
10:26 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Grandma!…Yes, Beau is still wearing Grandma’s elastic. from her panties..heh!…He is oblivious to the fact. But someone still feela embarrassed when a stranger wants to pet him and sees the initials on the elastic band….chorkel!…That actually happened tonight by the way…heh!heh!

Rio, that’s what those type of underwear are called. Granny pants. It’s like long johns, or thongs or bikinis or boxers or Whitey tightys,
10:45 pm on March 23rd, 2012
Wolfie!…You did not read the posts correctly…grunt!…They were saying “Granny’s panties”…sniff!…Not Granny pants. And there is a difference….grump!…My Grandma was not a Granny. And that is that….grump!

Where are you all from? 🙂

Rebecca,
I for one think the **celebrate** stamps would have looked spectacular with a Nome postmark.
Those darn lazy postal employees. They were probably all busy running to the arch whenever the cannon announced another musher. Too busy cheering to stamp the envelopes. Drat. Maybe I can fake a Nome postmark. Our brother the Turtleman is a printer you know.

goodnight all.

Thanks for the background, Terri.
We here are in the Pacific Northwest.
Don’t know about matching up photos and names of Plunderers. We are all at FOC…somewhere. Maybe we should put together a photo album one of these days.
It took us months to sort everyone and everything out. Just stick with it and soon all be perfectly clear. Everyone is here to help answer your questions.
Nothing from Nome in the mail today…maybe tomorrow.
Wishing you all a Good Night, especially The River Bear Homestead.

Hi, and welcome Terri, we have been MIA for a couple of days, but we hang out here a lot.
Someone joked about TYB giving up the blog for Lent. Mom has a story about something like that.
Several years ago, mom was in a chat group made up of people with whom she went to school. One of the girls!! was a pastor and told us that she was giving up the chat group for lent so that she could spend more time studying the scriptures in preparation for Easter.
Then, she had a heart attack and died on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. Ever since then mom has thought about Janet every time someone mentions giving something up. So sad.

Oh, and we are from Texas.
Re: Granny. Mom’s grandmother would chase you with a peach tree switch if you called her granny.

I stopped on the way home tonight and got AJ his favorite treat, ice cream—delish. I knew he would be sleep deprived after the race, and I knew he would lose weight, but he lost a lot more than I expected. He was fit to begin with, but now he is just sinew. I figure he could stand to have a bowl or two of ice cream. He is also having a hard time staying warm—we think they body goes into a bit of shock after the race. He’ll have to eat his ice cream wrapped in a blanket.
I just arrived home and narry a Giant is to be found. What does this mean? I have a guess. New dogs, lead dogs to be exact. Testing them out to be even more exact.
Terri: We’re in Alaska, where men are men and polar bears stay to the far north.
Macy: Good to see your min-pin face again.

We just got back in from a run with the team tonight; sort of a fun and easy goodbye to the season. This annual run has included brilliant sunrises on the river with Denali in the background to sunsets through the trees casting long shadows.
This run always gives me time to reflect on the last few months of a training year and smile. The setting for this final run of this season though was fading light and fittingly more snow falling as it had all winter. Not entirely what I had hoped for.
And so moving through the habitual actions of getting the team ready to leave, I began harnessing the dogs as snow began to settle down again. Automatically I went to Rori’s house and stopped short when she wasn’t there spinning around waiting for me. Elim popped his head out instead and I have to admit I hadn’t really accepted losing her until that moment. I changed harnesses and put Elim’s on him and moved on with hesitation but without pausing longer. It may be easier to move forward when facing a loss but in my case I have to take these things in stages for awhile.
With that the tone of the night for my last run of the season was set and would turn out to be an opprtunity to run through the good times, the loss of Rori and Younger, the support that all of you gave to the kennel and the way the race turned out for us this year.
And so, while you may be asking yourself why am I rambling on? The purpose of this note is really to say thank you and to share a little bit more with you about life in the kennel that you all helped support this year. There are high points and low points to this year. Sometimes you give your all and it costs you more than you planned on without the results you planned for. But none the less your friendship and support has made a very real and significant difference to our family in moving forward. I simply can’t say thank you enough.
And finally, an interesting happening on the trail that comes to mind more and more often. I haven’t shared this much and Rebecca will do a better job of writing it but I thought you all would like to hear about it…
Moving out towards Cripple at the end of a long, cold run. I had been alone for several hours watching the dogs move and with too much time to think. It was seemingly 2 or 3 am and I was getting close to the check point.
I was sitting behind my sled drifting further from the run and my actions were getting slower. Not having slept for a few days I was doing physically well but my mind was beginning to play tricks on me.
From time to time I would jolt back to the game mentally but then would fall back into a waking sleep moments later. It was on one of these occassions that I became alert to a movement beside me. I remember vividly the head of a white dog running beside me for a couple of moments that slowed down in time. Normally a loose dog like this requires immediate action. To me at that moment though it seemed a very normal thing to have a dog running beside me. And so I slowly reached out to pet him and just as I reached him he disappeared.
A very short time later, a dog with a mask was suddenly there also running as if she had always been there beside me except on the other side of the sled. After some time like this, looking down at her I reached out to pet her and she also disappeared.
Figuring I was simply hallucinating as neither dog reappeared I put it out of my head and was soon in the check point. And then a day or so slipped by and I found myself in Nulato reading Rebecca’s email about the passing of Rori.
In terms of race time, minutes or maybe days passed by and I was once againg travelling on down the trail when my experience in Cripple came back to my mind.
The thought that many of us want when a loved one passes is to believe that there’s more than just a chance they’re still with us and that’s true with dogs too. I was thinking about this question in this situation and wonder would Younger come with Rori to run one more time with the team and with me or was is a hallucination of a tired mind?
Now whether or not you believe in such things is up to you. I usually don’t and tease Rebecca all the time for her ghost hunter shows she watches. What makes this experience different for me though and that I realized later on is that for just a moment when I reached out to pet that white dog, I remember feeling the fur of his head along with seeing it.
In the end, I’ve come to decide that I had a chance to see them run happily one more time and to be grateful for it.
So, we move forward into next year. We hope to see all of you on the trail with us. Again, thank you and thank you.
