No Post Today

“Why not?” says Spence.

“We’re on a tight schedule,” Admin says, “if we want to catch that football game. Starts at three. And, um, the snow shoveling hasn’t happened yet.”

“Let’s flip for it,” Spence says.

Admin flips a coin, glances at it, pours himself another cup of coffee. Spence puts on coat and boots and heads outside.

Welcome Rex, Rosie, Tug, Felix.

    Good morning all.

We second that, Bee. And good morning to you, too.

Rain/drizzle here, not too dangerous so far. Temps are going in the right direction, so we might get some melting.

Good article Melanie. Our v e t has used his own dog, a Lab, as a blood donor from time to time. Have no idea how much is usually required, but in the article they said the Newfie gave 1 pint. That is interesting that dogs can be universal donors, and typing is not required (at least for first time recipients).

    No Post. Sigh….

So I am on Chapter 13 of Robbie and wonder if Spence has a sound track of what he listened to while writing it? He could post that. Mr.Staff came down this morning just at an important part and tried to talk to me. Had to say my name several times.

I had to go upstairs and sit in our little sitting room to read. He seemed to think I wanted to hear about the news. Sheesh.

Gotta go read. I am loving this so far.

    Good morning everyone

Spence, Don’t shovel…Just smoosh the snow. It works every time.

We are having serious cold wind so maybe Rio is having a storm?

Catching up … Don’t get me started on DOCTORS. I have had maybe three during these trying times that I actually trusted. Two have left the profession because they didn’t like what was happening to it. SNIGGLEFRITZ!

Then there was the HEART surgeon who KNEW that he was right and totally screwed up Dan’s heart and chest 6 years ago!

That little girl? IF that is what the Doctor said, I would sue the bejeez Louise out of him. But, as STAFF said need to know both sides of the story.

LOVE the running of the Pugs!! And some of them only went part way and then went back or went visiting … Great.

Can’t remember anything else from last night’s posts because I got mad.

Hey BlueKat! Thanks for that website. I love those dresses (I also loved the EF dresses, but it would have to be a MAJOR sale for me to afford one of those) and they are in my price range. Have both yours and Wöökie’s Mom’s advice in my bookmarks.

Melanie, Here is Barb’s advice on the dress/outfit for MOG. If you find something you love, and it looks fabulous on you, go for it. Even if it is at the top of your price range (or slightly above) buy it. You will feel good mentally, plus those photos will be there forever. This is not the time to be practical, it is the time to splurge, if only a little.

Also, I would do the crepey pants for the rehersal dinner, and go with a long or tea length dress for the wedding.

We were off the grid for a while yesterday, then caught up (within one episode) on Downton Abbey. Cannot say enough good things about that series.

Running of the Pugs! What ended your day started ours. Loved it!

Doctors. Have only this to say: we agree with others who have said: In this, as in anything else, do research – ask questions – but, most importantly, listen to your intuition and heart.

Melanie: Whatever you buy make it something that can be worn with comfort and pleasure many times. That will make it a wise purchase regardless of any extra expensive that may be incurred.
Barb is right…this is a big day for OTAS…go for it!

Hoping Buddy and Molly’s Mom are feeling better today.
Rebecca: What were you doing at the sewing machine? Stop! You must rest the sore paw. Please!

BearSpiritDog and MagPie, I hear! Also I have learned the art of reading what word is supposed to be there instead of what iPaw puts as a correction. Though if it too funny, it does catch my attention.

I bet Riö is just eating up Robbie. In a good sense, of course.

    Greetings All:

Molly’s Mom, Rebecca, and Buddy: I hope you are all feeling better today.

SiberH: Your handsome face is up top.

Speaking of handsome faces, the new FOCs are a good looking bunch (both dogs and kat). I especially like Rosie…wonder why? 🙂

It is very, very cold in Westchester today. Brrr. Getting ready to do our food shopping.

Rio: Your friend’s work is so lovely! I’m glad to hear that you finally got your copy of Robbie. Seems like the Sibes are doing a good job of keeping the TMGs in their place!

    Go Giants!

Spence, sorry to hear you lost that coin toss.

Melanie – you could also try Coldwater Creek’s website – they have a fabulous clearance section.

Hello Guys. I’m trying to lie as still as possible, because Mommy says that I will have to go to the dreaded v-e-t if I’m still in pain tomorrow. This morning, I was feeling somewhat better. Then suddenly those painful spasms arrived and I saw Kat next to me and I hissed and tried to scratch her!!! Imagine that! She is my 2nd best friend after Meashka!!! Mommy said this pain is causing me to lash out at whomever is close by. I’m pretending it was my evil twin because I’m so appalled at my reactions.
I hope you are feeling better MollysMom. Maybe you and I should cuddle.

Melanie, Mom, who knows nothing, likes Barb’s advice on what to wear.

Buddy, You go you know where tomorrow if you need to. I know you didn’t mean to hiss at Kat.

  19. Barb & Maggie
    1:35 pm on January 22nd, 2012

Buddy, You might need to go to the V*E*T. Hissing is totally out of character for you. They will make you feel beter. Vets are better than human’s doctors.

T & G, Barb took a picture of the chilled polenta that she had left over from last night. This is how it looked this morning. In the second photo, you can see how it looked after frying, and just before she gobbled it up (I got the last 2 bites). Best served with a little butter and syrup.

    Black and white!
All the good-looking new friends of Chet are black and white
today. So are Molly and Mo.
Staff: Thanks for posting the Running of the Pugs. I see that some of those pugs didn’t run too far before they turned around and headed back. Those are the ones like Rio that aren’t let out of their yards.
Jasper: I laughed out loud at the water toilet.
New cat brush! Two out of three cats love it. The other one is the cause of the scratches on my hand. Ouch!
(Thinking about) prepping a bathroom for painting. I thought I’d removed all the wallpaper from this house (except kitchen). Who would put a strip of wallpaper around the top of a bathroom wall anyways?

  27. Melanie
    3:35 pm on January 22nd, 2012

MagPie, if it is only corn, yes, I could. Will have to look into this.

Dawson, wasn’t that the 1970’s? I sort of remember all those things up there during that time.

Snow is smooshed. Game is on. Siber-H! No watching the game and cheering for the Patriots!

I am listening to the game. That way I won’t jinx it.

Barb&Magpie: We had never heard of Polenta, but copied your recipe of last night. It sounds yummy and easy to prepare. By the way, those are beautiful dishes.

Dawson: Some people were also using the wallpaper trim in the mid-nineties.

Jasper: Where do you find all these pug photos. So funny.

    Lunch time here.

Rio, We think your friend’s skill level has advanced even beyond the beautiflu creations she first posted. This latest one is breathtaking!

Bear, Thank you for the compliment on the dishes. The first one is from a whole set we had that featured different barnyard animals, very folk artish. The second was from a set we got at Target that was a knock-off of some expensive dishware created by an artist in Door County.

Dawson, they are right, wallpaper borders were all the rage in the 80’s and 90’s. Used at the top, botom, and even the middle as a type of chair rail finish.

  43. Riö - The Evil Pug
    5:34 pm on January 22nd, 2012

Howlers!… Thanks. She really hopes to finish it tonight after supper…grunt!…Its her turn to pretend to cook tonight…heh!heh!…Her mother will have all the prep work done by the time we go upstairs for her to make it…chorkel!

  49. Barb & Maggie
    5:48 pm on January 22nd, 2012

Bear, We should correct what we said about the dishes being a knock-off. Tracy Porter designs dinnerware, and Neiman and Horchow have sold some of her things. She contracted with Target to do a more reasonably priced dinnerware, and that is what we bought. It looks very much like the expensive set!

Ice is building up on trees here, and branches are starting to hit the roof as they break. Yikes!

The heat wasn’t working today in the church building so everyone was clad in coats and boots. Sitting in the cold didn’t do anything for my sore muscles; my hand and hip is very stiff.

Buddy: I’m worried about you. Lashing sometimes happens when we’re in pain. I’m sure your second best friend has forgiven you.

Mollypop’s Mom: Did I miss something? Are you under the weather besides the hip problem? In any case, I hope you are feeling tip top soon.

Sam: “Take one of these,” the doctor says handing over a beautiful, petite dog, “and call me in the morning.” Sounds like sound medical advice. Take care of Aunt Molly’s Mom.

Maggie tell Barb to be careful! When we had the ice storm here many were without power for days because of the breaking branches falling on the power lines. What you need is a breeze-way from the house to the barn.
Rio: Your friend’s latest creation is exquisite!!! She is getting better and better with each one.
It’s East Coast against West Coast for the next game. Go 49ers! (sorry Rose)

  63. Barb & Maggie
    6:32 pm on January 22nd, 2012

We did go out to the barn. A lot of the noise is pieces of ice falling off the limbs. In the barn, with the metal roof, it sounds really loud, so the goats jump and run around every time there is a loud bang.

Barb – no going outside without ice skates…and a helmet!

Rio – betterer and betterer! What if your friend did a little quilled butterfly in the lower left corner. Or even got one of those really pretty and realistic feather butterflies from the craft store?

dammit – now that those silly football players are going to the even sillier big game, this area is going to be full of people being goofy and acting like THEY have something to do with the winning of the game. Can you just imagine the good that could be done if every single penny from just ONE game (tickets, players’ salaries, tv advertising, concession foods, parking fees, souveniers, etc.) was donated to a food bank, or a homeless shelter, or a no-kill animal shelter?

oh well….putting the soap box back in storage….

  69. Riö - The Evil Pug
    7:14 pm on January 22nd, 2012

Tupper!…My soap-box please…sniff!… Do you know how sick to death all the hard working Joes in this country would get if they never had any fun sports events to enjoy knowing that instead every single extra penny earned was going to people who will not work and just look for hand-outs…grunt!…I’m not saying there are not loads of guys out there who cannot work and need help. There are! I’m also sure that football and baseball fans alike give lots of money each year to their favorite charities…sniff!… Focus your $$’s Down the Drain spy-glass on the Government. The biggest money wasters ever in the history of the whole world…grumble! …You don’t like sports – too bad for you. Don’t begrudge the rest of us who do…snort! ….I am off the box now…gruffle!

Rio – you can borrow our soapbox anytime you like – thats why we got the deluxe portable edition; so everyone can have their say and express their opinion.

Not saying you shouldn’t watch or enjoy your sports. We are sure that there are things we enjoy that others don’t. That is why, as they say, they make both chocolate AND vanilla.

Its the silliness that gets us. Right now, there are “celebrations” going on at a local college. Celebrations that include throwing bottles and starting fires and damaging property. All because they are so “happy” that “their team” is going to the SB.
    We just don’t get it.

Sooo, Melanie, does it come in any other colors?

We too are staying out of the sports vs. no sports discussion.

We have found it to be a no-win argument, sort of like hunting vs non-hunting. Pro hunters alway argue that they do so much for conservation, with their license fees, etc. We say, if you love nature, why not just take photos or go for a walk in the woods, why do you have to kill something you love? Brick walls, I tell ya!

  77. Kirby T. Penworthy
    8:14 pm on January 22nd, 2012

Hey, y’all! I like sports — although I do think some of the salaries are absolutely ridiculous — but what gets me is how much money people spend to run for president! Here in South Carolina there was a headline in the paper the other day about how the candidates had spent more than $12 million on campaign advertising. And that’s just one state! And mom got really sick and tired of all the phone calls. She wanted to send a message to all the candidates that she was going to leave a pad of paper next to the phone and make a mark for each candidate that called. The one with the fewest calls would get her vote!

    It’s KIRBY T. !! Hi, KT!

MagPie, it didn’t show another colors! The vase problem has been fixed. She’s delivering some she got for $8 a piece to the florist who wanted to charge her mega mega mega bucks.

Now the question is … will one porta pottie for 200 hundred people over 5 hours be enough. I have no idea.

I am now hitting the bed. Stayed up late last night with the discussion on vases. Patsy did NOT approve.

Riö, your friend’s art work is out of this world! And you really think I can’t wear that to his wedding?

Ditto on the postage reminder. We still have a bunch of 44 cent-ers to which we must add the 1 cent stamp.
Melanie: How cum when we click on the ballerina to enlarge nothing happens the first time, but then on the second click it enlarges to Barb’s Polenta?

    Dear Melanie…

    NOooooOOOooooOooo

Heh heh heh. I can see you pirouetting down the aisle. Snicker

Maybe you could hula hoop. I bet that would be popular with lots of FOTAS’s friends. 🙂

Popcorn! Earlier post incited me to make some popcorn. I decided I would make lots so I could try Rebecca’s mom’s recipe for caramel popcorn. I guess you are not supposed to put so much popcorn in those hot air poppers. I killed it. 🙁

Tell your friend the bouquet is splendid. Perfectly splendid. All it needs is a ribbon bow. (and perhaps a butterfly)

Bows!…And Butterflies are not on the menu for the finishing touches to the Rose Bouquet…grunt!….Good grief. Bows and Butterflies have their place but my friend doesn’t think this is the project for either of them…sniff! ….She has been known to change her mind though especially if she gets in a fix and can’t figure out how to finish this thing…heh!cough!

Staff! You didn’t! I didn’t even get started taking that wallpaper down. I took the medicine cabinet and wall cupboard down and removed all the junk that seems to have collected in there. Then I did some mundane chores and gave the house plants a shower. They look refreshed.

As a football coach’s daughter I grew up in the stadium. The only football teams I cared about were my father’s team and the team they happened to be playing that week; I rarely watched any professional or other college games. Now, if I see a game on TV it stresses me out. I agree that there is a lot of excess in professional sports, but I also agree that folks need an escape and enjoyment. Chocolate and vanilla?—if we add strawberry, we have neopolitan. Yum!

KirbyT: It’s so good to see your avatar among the mix on the blog.

Melanie: Wearing that tutu will certainly be a conversation started at the wedding.

Dawson: Don’t give up. Bev’s carmel popcorn is worth it. She made a batch for AJ and I for Christmas. I brought it home in my suitcase. He ate his popcorn and then started in on mine. He now understands that touching a woman’s popcorn is right up there with going through her handbag—Don’t.

Rio: How big is your friend’s project? It looks much bigger than the magnet you showed earlier.

T&G: I’ve never been good at math, but I think you and Melanie’s attendance at the wedding festivities involves a complex equation: tutu + tutu = fourfour. I should get a calculator to check my work.

  102. Riö - The Evil Pug

Size!… This project is considerably larger than the magnets….snort!… It will wind up in an 8 x 8 frame….grunt!…She says it was nice to leave the world of miniatures for a while…heh!

Beau!… Well, he did it again…grunt!…He came down here with his little bone and jumped up in her lap…sniff!… She was scratching him and got too close to his little bone which he had dropped in her lap…grump!…He growled and snapped at her hand. She barked a loud “NO!” which startled him and then she shoved him and his bone off the chair…heh!heh!…He then proceeded to look up at her with a very sorry, I should not have done that look in his big bloodshot eyes…grumble!…So she forgave him and let him back up in her lap for some more scratching. He just left to go upstairs. I’ve got his bone…chorkel!

Rio: That sorry-I-shouldn’t-have-done-that-look is worth mastering. It sounds like you taught Beau well, plus you ended up with his bone so it sounds like you’re having a good evening.

We are going off to read for awhile. Really enjoying Rosenfelt’s Open and Shut. His character, Andy Carpenter, has a Golden. He talks very fondly of dogs in the book and you can tell that the author is a real dog lover. Maybe that is part of the reason he is popular on this blog.

Rio, Your friend definitely has to work on that snapping problem. Beau can’t continue to act that way. It is learned behavior and can be corrected.

Has anyone seen the movie Dogs Decoded, Nova? We have it coming soon from Netflix and it got good reviews.
