Hey Barb, we continue to Plunder . . .
I don’t think I’ve told you that our road is closed. Irene and the remnants of the other storm undercut around 300 feet of the road down a ways from our house.
There are three signs that warn people that the road is closed. THREE! And still people come down to see if they can get by, end up turning in our driveway. Dan wants to charge them a buck for each turn around.
People can’t read? They read but do not understand the words? They figure it doesn’t apply them?
The Pack enjoys telling them off.

Mollypop: That book looks very good. Rin Tin Tin used to be on tv. “He believed the dog was immortal.” Love that line. I don’t think of Chet as a German Shepherd. Not the right coloring but the right look, intelligence and temperment.

Have to add that that question comes, not to be critical, but to satisfy my curiosity, and I should have started the post with a big, HI EVERYONE. We’ve been away for too long.
The summer has been very busy. We usually leave the house before the first post and get back in after a lot of good nights and without much to add. I’m hoping that with the early darkness, which I don’t really like, I’ll be able to get back into things. I’ve missed you all.

The Rockies did win yesterday after a nine game losing streak. They have tried their best to end up in last place in their division, but won’t make it. gah
At least the Rangers have clinched their division.
Today will be an interesting day in baseball…The Sox and the Yankees.

B. in your post at 10:34 your example was one team would be team’s to show possession. Two teams would be teams’. If we are talking about two teams, each with a success; wouldn’t it be “your teams’ successes”? I think that I might not have read the conversation carefully enough because I, like Barb and Maggie, don’t have a great interest in baseball. Unlike Barb and Maggie, I can’t say that an entire rat alive and running might pique my interest. It would probably take a rat pack.

The tomato festival was hot and humid, and get this: there was not a single tomato for sale. They had about a million heirlooms for taste testing, but when mom wanted to buy a single tomato for the seeds, they said no. A bit about Blou. If you go to http://www.bloudog.com and click on “about” you will be able to read about how he came to me and how Code Blou got started. When the web page went up he had raised $5000.00 for animal causes. By the time he died, he had
raised and donated over $56,000. He was the spokes dog for the pet emergency fund of Western New York and the mascot for the Letters from Home Program (www.lettersfromhomeprogram.org). He hung out in my gallery and was such a personable guy that he made more money than I did. When he came to me and people asked for his picture, I passed the photos out freely and for free. After a while I decided to do a line of note card to sell in order to raise money for the dogs. Blou’s business was the only one in town trying to go to the dogs. Originally I had hoped to make a hundred dollars in a month for the emergency fund. The first afternoon I put the card rack up, we made $112. The first month $1000 and in the seven years we were together we made $56,000. Blou was animated and appeared as Sheepdog on the “Save the Sheep” episode of Wonder Pets on Nick, Jr. network.
The Blou II that was offered in the auction was designed from Blou’s photographs and sold around the world by Hansa Toys, a German toy company. A Chinese puppet manufacturer designed a hand puppet after Blou. He appeared on the front
cover of a national dog magazine and when he died he had a 4 column obituary in the Buffalo Evening News. He may be the only dog in history to hear from two
sitting American Presidents. He shared the President’s Volunteer Service Award with the Letters from Home Program and received a letter from Pres. Bush. The day before he died, he got a thank you from the Obamas. The Blou II doll is still working. Many of them have been donated to children’s wards in hospitals, to nursing homes, and to libraries. Two weeks before he died his book, “Living the Good Life” by Blou was published. He’s been gone almost 2 years and still people come into the Marketplace where he used to hand out and ask for him almost every weekend. We were in a resort area that gets many people on an annual or biannual
basis who haven’t heard that he is gone. My dad says I’m his worthy successor but not his replacement. There will never be another Blou.

Hey Plunderers! Happy Sunday,
We have been sleeping most of the day away while Mom & Pop clean up the mess. Boy did we ever have fun yesterday. We have never seen so many kids at one time. And they all loved us!!! We had to play all day long. Thats why we are so tired. But we can’t wait to see those kids again.
It never even rained once all day yesterday (or today for cleanup operations). Thanks for all your good wishes. Mom is doing a lot of twirling today. And she was twirling all day yesterday.

Here’s the water bowl story. Blou and I used to walk a popular 1 mile trail around a local reservoir everyday. We met and made many friends both two and four legged.
Along the trail there are a few natural stone memorial benches dedicated to people who who had enjoyed the trail. Though the reservoir holds a kazillion gallons of water, the sides are steep and not easily accessible to older folks or to dogs who can’t be allowed off leash. When Blou and I walked there, we often saw people pouring water into their hands so that their dogs could have a drink. When Blou died, I didn’t want to add a bench because the benches are for people, so I had the bowl carved and set at about the half way point on the trail. I’ve had many people send me pictures of their dogs drinking from the bowl. Since we’ve started on this
trail story, I’m going to post another picture that I took just two weeks before Blou
died. I didn’t think then that it was a special shot. I came across it a couple of weeks ago and think now that it’s prophetic. They say that when one dies, he goes to the light and leaves everything behind. When you look at this picture, look closely at the trail directly below Blou and you’ll see his frisbee which he loved dearly.

Mom has been hogging the laptop and I have not mastered the iPaw yet, but life is still plugging along here. Mom went to a garage sale down the street and they had a box of PUPPIES. She just kept going on about how soft they were and how good they smelled. I was seriously concerned that she had one stashed in the garage here. But she sadly put the little girl back with her sisters. We are one over the legal limit when Holly and Biddie are here so…. They were Boxer/Basset mix.
