“The random number generator blew out all the circuits?” says Spence.
Admin comes up from the basement, his face kind of blackened, maybe with soot. “Don’t want to talk about it.”
“Anything I can do to help?”
Admin stomps off, muttering, “Upload, download, upload, download. So help me I’m going to … “

Good morning, y’all! We’re early this morning. Oooh, Mollypop. It looks like you and your little joke got Admin all in a huff!
8:17 am on August 2nd, 2011
Kirby – I think my poodle humor got Admin all poodled up! Hoo hoo.
9:25 am on August 2nd, 2011
Oh oh! I wonder what Admin is going to do….
Good morning all.
9:26 am on August 2nd, 2011
I see Bear is getting extra time in the Special Place to make up for missing out in the beginning of the month.
9:33 am on August 2nd, 2011
Good morning, everyone!
10:02 am on August 2nd, 2011
Good Morning!
Remember, I mentioned a while back there are two Dog Who’s? Well, some poor guy inadvertently ordered the “other” one and was telling Spence how excited he was to have the copy Amazon had just sent him. Spence replies that it is interesting Amazon sent him a copy of a book that is not due to come out for another six weeks. I got so excited I almost placed an order myself before realizing what had happened. Sigh. 34 days and counting…..
10:06 am on August 2nd, 2011
Don’t do it, Admin!!
Bear, I’m so glad you are being allowed your deserved extra days of glory!
Good day everyone!
10:07 am on August 2nd, 2011
Masquers: I love when our posts are together! 🙂

Macy – I heard your temp is forecast to be 109 today!
10:53 am on August 2nd, 2011
Hi Everyone – Mama is still so busy that she barely gets time to put the computer on for us. But hopefully today is the last of the truly crazy schedule. She is shipping the last of her competition items out in tomorrows early FedEx – so today, she is just finishing the last details.
The competition judging is this weekend in New Mexico You would think by now she would know enough to get her things ready months ahead of time, but noooooooooooo…..she always says she does her best work under pressure. So her work this year ought to be FABULOUS, cuz she has certainly had the pressure going. We’ll see what the judges think. She won’t know til they get out to the show next Wednesday…sigh.
We still haven’t gotten a chance to get all caught up on the blog. Hope everyone is healthy and happy and staying cool. We did see a quick blurb about a terrible “red water” scare in Texas. Haven’t had a chance to read the whole thing – some people are saying that it is indicative of the End of Days. We hope not- we still have WAY to much to do.
Gotta fly for now – we sure hope to be back later tonight.
12:10 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Iditarod patches coming soon…WhooHoooo!
12:30 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Ah, another day in the limelight. We do feel bad for the new guys though. No photo, just the one small comment. Wonder how Admin plans to get them both in the picture. Perhaps this is what caused the big malfunction.
Hey! Melanie is due back today! Hope she remembered that little item Rio requested…..
In Tonsberg until Friday.
Did I say Good Morning?
12:31 pm on August 2nd, 2011
or afternoon or evening, as the case may be.
12:36 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Bear: Hope you’re having a good trip.
Yes, Melanie is due back today.
12:44 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Wonder what the problem is with the random number generator here on the blog. Except for that late June faus paw when Buddy was yanked prematurely from the throne, the Facebook RNG rolls right along without a glitch.
12:56 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Where is Melanie?
12:59 pm on August 2nd, 2011
We just finished reading Buried Secrets. It was excellent, but a little predictable.
We like it when we can’t figure out the ending in advance. However, it was a great read! And well written!
1:06 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Hi Wolfie! Melanie went to visit YSAS.
Rose: Yes, the patches are supposed to be ready mid August. Bear will return just in time to send them out. No vacation from the vacation for him!
2:25 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Bear: Hope my patch gets mailed first! 🙂
2:25 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Admin!…Technology and Admin do not mix….snort! … It sends him into an **All Poodled Up** frenzy…heh!…I hope he doesn’t hurt Spencer. That little guy is no match against Admin especially when Admin is really riled up…sneeze!
Vacation!…Seems a lot of guys are on vacation lately. We want to be. We need to be. We’d love to be! ….snuff!… We here have been searching for a cabin to spend a few days at up in the mountains. My friend says she needs to get away from the nagging and criticizing for a while. Maybe then she won’t be so sad and gloomy if that happens…sniff!….Even if we end up not going, it is fun to look at all the different little cottages and cabins available at the click of a mouse…heh!
2:26 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rose!…Right out of the Blue we posted at the same time!…Gaawwh!
2:58 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Just checking in with you guys so you know we are OK. Grandkids have gone home, but now today Kelly’s mother-in-law passed away. We are still going to be mostly off the grid for the next few days. Her passing was expected and peaceful. Will check in when we can.
3:04 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Some synchronicity happening there, Rio!
Sorry to hear of the passing of Kelly’s MIL.
3:10 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Hi again – just a quick note to tell you all that we heard from Melanie! She is on her way home after a joyous, delightful visit to New York and Jersey.
She said the play was fabulous (of course YSAS was the BEST!) and she had a wonderful time with OTAS and F
Of course she missed her doggies, and her family here, but sometimes vacations are just the best thing in the world…even better than tummies with Frosty Paws after.
Now Mama is headed to Crazy Lady Land…sigh.
But that’s right – patches are due this month! Yippeee! Can’t wait to see them.
3:25 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Yippee! I got my first email of the Iditarod News – The Trail Breaker.
3:27 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Vacation!…Melanie is coming home already?…snort! …She wasn’t gone very long at all. Not nearly long enough…sniff!… Still, I hope she has something in her hot little paw for me!…heh!…I’m twirling, I’m twirling!…snort!
3:58 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Mollypop: Are you an Iditarod Insider?
3:59 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Spence will be reading from Dog Who on Sept. 14 at Wellesley Books per Facebook.
4:06 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Stover, you don’t have to be an Iditarod Insider to get their free emails.
4:25 pm on August 2nd, 2011
SH: Thank you. I am an Iditarod Insider but I haven’t received the email of the Iditarod News.
4:25 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Siber. I must have missed the info. How DO you get the Iditarod emails?
4:35 pm on August 2nd, 2011
I’M BACK! Totally exhausted. Had a GREAT time, wedding dress BEAUTIFUL, YSAS was TERRIFIC, OTAS was AWESOME!
Going to sleep for a long time! Took pics well get to them tomorrow. Will read everything tomorrow.
I hope everyone is tip-top!
4:39 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Stover, I haven’t received a new email from the Iditarod either.
I don’t think we are due one yet. Maybe Mollypop received the last one that they sent out when she signed up.
Redbone, Go to the home page of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Up at the top, click on Iditarod 2012. Then over at the right on that page, in the little blue box, click on Iditarod newsletter. Scroll down and sign up on that page.
I don’t know how to make a link.
4:40 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Melanie, Welcome back! We are looking forward to pictures. Rest now.
4:45 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Iditarod!… Redbone an Iditarod aficionado??…heh!…As if. Me thinks some ‘wires’ got crossed….grunt!
Melanie!… snort!…I’m tip-top just waiting to see what you brought me!…woooo!
4:48 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Melanie! Welcome back! We missed you here on the blog. Looking forward to photos and hearing about the trip.
Thanks, Siber-H. I signed up for the Iditarod emails a while back persuant to your info.
4:49 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Siber Thanks buddy. Will do.
By the way, creating a link is easy! Any web page you are in-just highlight the web address, hit Ctrl and “c”. Then if you want to post. That link on the blog, you would say something like “here is the link”
The hit Ctrl and “v” (this is the paste function)
Real easy if this old hound can do it
5:18 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Welcome home Melanie. Glad you had a great time!
There’s another way to post a link. In the http address box right click. A menu will appear and one of the choices will be “copy.” Click on it then come to the comment section on the blog and left click to get the cursor there.. Go to the “edit” tab and click; one of the choices will be be “paste.” Click on it and you’re done.
5:20 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Redbone, I’m a primitive breed.
Thank you!
5:30 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Thank You, too, Stover
Maybe I will get brave and try it.
5:37 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Well guys, my Iditarod News has today’s date on it. It seems they like me better than the rest of you. They saw my poufy (fierce) tail, I’d say.
5:40 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Siber – ve know you are big brave doggie. Go ahead and try making link. Natasha vill be so proud of you.
6:02 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Link!…SiberH making a Link…snort!…That will be the day!…snorkel!
6:18 pm on August 2nd, 2011
I could blow up the blog or something equally awful.
The last Iditarod email I received is dated the end of June. So, since they send them out quartely, it is not time for me to receive a new one.
Mollypop, what is your new Iditarod email about?
6:37 pm on August 2nd, 2011
This isn’t going to work, but here is a link.
6:38 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Didn’t work. I’m going outside to look for skunks.
6:40 pm on August 2nd, 2011
I want to be an Iditarod Insider!
6:41 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Hey, guys. We got one too. Haven’t had a chance to look at it yet, but it just came today. Mollypop, we think this means we will get our patches first!!
6:46 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Hey, y’all! I’m twirling a whole bunch!!! I couldn’t wait for Mom to get home and turn on the computer for me, because today I got my package from Snowhook!!! Rebecca not only sent me the booties I won, she sent me another set that was too small for her dogs. I haven’t tried them on yet, but they look like they might just fit me! So now I can save the “good” ones for show, and wear the other set whenever it snows. And since it only snows here once or twice a year, they ought to last me a good, long time!!! Thanks, Rebecca!!!
6:57 pm on August 2nd, 2011
This will show you just what we have to put up with around here. It’s always”oh, aren’t they cute” and “what sweet puppies”. Sweet, my ant fanny!
Sheesh

7:13 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Mom just found this article about 10 books everyone should have read in high school. Being as I never went to high school, I haven’t read any of the books on the list. Mom has read 5 of the 10, but not all during high school. What do y’all think?
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/43945489/ns/today-books/t/books-you-really-should-have-read-high-school/?GT1=43001
7:14 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Welcome back, Melanie!! Hope you had lots of fun in NYC!
Did you know that the Daily News did a little write-up on the play in the July 29th edition? McKey looking good in color! The link did not show the picture though, just the write-up.
If you would like to have the review, I’d be more than happy to send it your way…I was so proud and excited to see it in the paper!
Glad you’re back! Do you need a vacation from your vacation now?
7:20 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Insider!…Does this insider crap cost anything?…grunt!…I haven’t received my allowance yet…sniff!
7:23 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rose!…What exactly does the Review say about Clarkson?…snort!…If you don’t mind putting it out here for all of us to enjoy…wuffle!
7:37 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rio: The Iditarod Insider costs either $20 or $34 depending if you get the video part or not.
Kirby: I have never read Lord of the Flies but I’ve read all the others. Don’t really think Fountain Head should be on the list.
7:46 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rio, it doesn’t cost anything to get the Iditarod emails. But that doesn’t get all the cool stuff that SiberH is always talking about.
7:56 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rio, Yes the Iditarod Insider costs money. You can subscribe to only the videos or you can subscribe to both the videos and the GPS tracker. I forget what just subscribing to the videos costs but it is less than subscribing to both the videos and tracker together. The total for both is usually around $33.00.
If you subscribe to the videos you can watch live streaming of the start of the race and see AJ and the team at the starting line and on their way to Nome.
For anyone that doesn’t want to spend the extra money for the GPS tracker, you will have no problem following the race. I know some of us here on the blog will be reporting on it and race fans will be posting all the latest info from the GPS tracker on the Iditarod’s message boards.
The Iditarod Insider and the Iditarod’s free email newsletter are two seperate things. Anyone can sign up for the emails without being an Iditarod Insider.
7:59 pm on August 2nd, 2011
It appears that Gus&BooBear and I are rather special with this Iditarod newsletter, huh?
8:03 pm on August 2nd, 2011
I have read all but The Fountainhead and Siddhartha. I have reread To Kill a Mockingbird, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Pride and Prejudice several times.
8:13 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Mollypop, The Iditarod Committee (or whoever sends out the emails) is going to hear from me.
I don’t think The Fountainhead should be on that list either.
8:25 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Atlas!…What happened to Atlas Shrugged? …snort!…Is it on the special list?… cough!
Videos!…Looks like we will be subscribing to the video part of it and relying on you guys to keep us up to date on AJ’s progress…gruffle!…Its the shits to be poor…sniff!
8:40 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Kirby: I have read all except Frankenstein. I wonder why <The Fountainhead is on the list. It does not belong with the others. High school was a long time ago.
I have to see if I can get an Iditarod e-mail.
8:47 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Race!… If and when the time is appropriate, SiberH can spell out how Spencer can logon and subscribe to the GPS tracking feature…snort!…Maybe he will even keep everyone up to date while the Race is going on…sniff!…At least once a day, as is his style….heh!
9:02 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Mail Call:
No one went to check the mail today. That means there are probably auction items in there that will have to wait until tomorrow.
I am subscribed now to email from the Iditarod website. I will subscribe to the Insider next paycheck, I think. I seem to have spent too much money lately. And not a thing to show for it.
9:06 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rio, I will give further instructions when the we are closer to the start of the race. We are going to want updates more than once a day, though.
The Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race happens before the Iditarod. I will let everyone know when it has begun and you guys can go to their website and watch some of their videos and play around with their GPS tracker. It is all free on their website or at least it was last year.
9:15 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Mom says she’s feeling a little unschooled right now. The only ones on the list that she’s read are To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Funn, Pride and Prejudice, The Lord of the Flies and The Scarlet Letter. At least she’ll tip the scales into the majority when she finishes reading Frankenstein for Bee’s class. Maybe she should read fewer mysteries and more classics. But then again, Spence’s new book is coming out next month. We have to make time for that one!!!
9:18 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Huckleberry Funn???
9:31 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Wooo!…She just beat the computer again at chess…heh!…But it is an old computer so that is not really saying too much…snorkel!…After all the brow-beating it gives her during the game it resigned and actually said, “That was played magnificently Ms…”….wooo!
9:33 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Mama started reading so young that she had read most of the classics before she was in jr high.
She would get bumped up into the advanced English class, and even there the teachers wouldn’t beleive that she had read Moby Dick in sixth grade, or knew Wuthering Heights backwards and forwards and understood the symbolisms. But she likes what she likes and hates what she hates and she never understoood why anyone would be forced to read Lord of the Flies or Catcher in the Rye.
And thats the end of our break – back to the last of the competition art pieces….
Talk to you all tomorrow.
9:58 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Good night all.
10:43 pm on August 2nd, 2011
I would not recommend Lord of the Flies to anyone. Horrible book.
Today was spent washing windows. Him on the outside and me on the inside. We got the top half done, then quit and started reading. It is a day off for me, after all.
I am reading <The Magnetic North – Notes from the Arctic Circle by Sara Wheeler. It is a travel, climate-change, indigenous peoples history book. Very different and interesting.
Tupper and Gilly: I will be glad when tomorrow comes and your mum can take the day off. She is working too hard.
10:44 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Tuppence!…That’s a pretty impressive Mama!…heh!…She still owes us more stories of her meeting with Spencer and Company…grunt!…Photos too!
10:49 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Rockies!…Wot is going on with this game anyways!??…sniff!..Ubaldo starts Friday with his new team….huffle!…I hope he throws a No-Run game. I will stand and Clap!Clap!Clap!…heh!
10:51 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Dawson,
We agree about Lord of the Flies. Nasty icky book. Little savages. YUCK.
Just in case anyone wondered.
10:57 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Here is some interesting trivia regarding The Fountanhead:
The granite quarry described in the book (Raymond Granite Quarry) is only about 15 miles from here. It is a fascinating place.
I liked it better than Atlas Shrugged. I did not like Lord of the Flies either.
10:58 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Siddhartha is one of the all time greats in my opinion. And yes, what about Atlas Shrugged, which we loved so much we read three times. T&G, The Catcher in the Rye is on many lists as a must read.
Saving to subscribe to the Iditarod Insider before the next big race. Only getting the emails now.
Good Night Everyone.
11:08 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Oops, just looked it up. The Raymond Granite Quarry was used in the film. The quarry described in the book was actually located back east.
11:12 pm on August 2nd, 2011
SiberH, when exactly is the Iditarod run? We remember you keeping us up to date last year and telling us about WL the year before, but Mom can’t remember what month?
11:47 pm on August 2nd, 2011
Gus and BooBear: The Iditarod starts the first Saturday in March.
12:17 am on August 3rd, 2011
It looks like Mom has more books to put on her “must read” list — which at this point is more like a “should read” list, because she’ll be lucky to get through it during her lifetime. She says lots of people think she’s lucky to work in a library because she can just sit around and read all day. Not so! The only time she gets to read is during her breaks. Unless, of course, you count picture books. She gets to read those whenever she’s planning a storytime!
Today Mom requested some Iditarod books from the other branches so she can see if the library has any books she would want to use for her storytime. If not, she has time to order something she would like better. She already has a vision of making a route map on the picture window in the children’s section, then placing sleds on the route to show where some of the racers — such as AJ! — are each day. Maybe she can take me to storytime so I can model my new booties!!!
12:21 am on August 3rd, 2011
Kirby T.Penworthy: Congrats on getting your new booties. Tell your mom that “ta” means thank you. I think it’s a British thing.
1:12 am on August 3rd, 2011
Dawson: Ruby Jo’s a Brit? I thought she lives in Montana!
8:35 pm on August 3rd, 2011
We are just going to admit that we are literary dolts. I have not read any of those books, as page turning is a little difficult for me. Mom has read “Catcher in the Rye”, Huckleberry Finn, and “The Great Gatsby”. We are just plane
illiteri\under-read. Mom says that she is ok with that.Mr. Redbone, you made me blush all over and that is not easy for a black doggie!
11:23 pm on August 3rd, 2011
Is this thing on? No posts in 2 hours???????
