No Post Today

On account of it’s the day for Audrey’s operation. A torn ACL in her left rear leg, and the vet says it will never get better on its own.

Meanwhile, here’s a song by North of 90 (wonder if the Snowhook folks know them). Thanks to Donald J. Dougherty.

Paws crossed here for Audrey. We have had two dogs in the family that had that operation, and they were perfect afterwards. Sending lots of positive energy her way.

Barb printed some recipes yesterday. Not sure if it has anything to do with the other email address, but Staff had a few that came thru partially on one page then continued on the next. Think I will cut and paste on to one page before sending to Bee. Do not have many yet, so get busy youse guys.

Off to work shortly. Got up 3 times during the night, but couldn’t will those babies out of her!

Great tune there. I was bouncing all over the chair.
Today is Audrey’s day at the Vet. I know it will go OK and she will be back home soon wondering what happened to the hair she used to have on that leg. Heh. It’ll grow back Audrey. I promise. Just ask Tyb.

Nice to meet you Mango. Have you ever met a Newfie? They slobber too. Maybe you are a Newfie. Gosh we have a lot of lurkers visiting the blog lately. Nice to see!

Good morning to all the regulars. Melanie,Barb and Maggie,Oley Howlers, Rose, Rio, BStover and the Wookster. In order…Heh.

We will be thinking of you today, Audrey. We know you will be just fine, but are sorry you and Spence and family have to go through this. Mom doesn’t remember the exact length of time the dog has to be kept much less active after the surgery, but we have hopes that Audrey will be more reasonable about this than Mom’s Border Collie. Even the crazy Border Collie recovered completely.
Thanks for letting us know, Chet.

Bear, that link just gets me to yahoo.com. I looked for dishlickers as a group, but no go. Was that supposed to be an email address dishlickers@yahoo.com ?

If this is too much to ask, we can just eat our recipe and fore-go sending it in.

  33. Riö - The Evil Pug
    1:15 pm on May 11th, 2011

Oley!….Were you not here when we went through several discussions and arguments over the dishlickers@yahoo.com email address?….snort! …. If you were not here, then I can forgive you because I’m sure the girls really want your recipes for the book…grunt! ….I set this email account up so that all of us can use it and not give out our email accounts if we do not want to. The password is slurp4real. Open the email account, type in your recipe, attach your photo if you have one, and then send it to the same address, dishlickers etc. and then those who are putting the book together can get your info out there. …snort!

Rose, It wouldn’t have to be a picture of you…Dawson had a photo of a bicycle for her avatar once and Stover had some lovely scenery. My mom wouldn’t allow her own photo to be up there because she is also camera shy. I’m the best looking one in the family, anyway.

p.s. Mom didn’t know how to fetch the avatar…Mollypop did it for her.

No, Rio. We were not on the blog when that was set up. First we heard of dishlickers was when you put out the Rules for the Cookbook. But all you said was All recipes to Barb, either by snail or email to her, or via the dishlickers email address. We did not know if that was a google, yahoo, hotmail, etc email.

We have now sent in our recipe, but we still need to make it so we can photo it.

Barb, I’m watching it. I think I’m going to like it even if it doesn’t have any ice and snow in it. There was a young cop in the beginning that reminded me of Jim Chee.

It’s okay Rio, I know what you meant about catagories. It’s just that the idea of moi having to submit a recipe for each of the catagories sorta freaked me out. Being as no one around here looks good in a chief’s hat.

Barb & Siber-H: No cable here so choices are limited. However, we are getting a Roku device installed so we will be able to watch anything that’s on Netflix.

Okay, so you have these guys who go down to the Center of the Earth. They manage to destroy a priceless cavern and then destroy the City of Atlantis.

Hmmm. Not sure what I was supposed to learn from that. Pondering . . .

I think I’ll ponder myself right into bed . . . (still pondering)

Though for the 1950’s there special effects weren’t bad. It’s amazing what you can do with tin foil.

Siber, you and Wookie’s Dad turned us on th Tony Hillerman. It is interesting to see Window Rock, Shiprock and other spots he talks about in his books. We liked the part about skinwalkers and the Navajo taboos about death, and the cleansing rituals needed after they encounter a dead body. Did you see the part where the officer said he gave CPR to a dying person and now he has the breath captured in him? That other soul needs it in his next life, so he has to do a ritual to release it.

Too bad there won’t be any more Hillermans books. They are great, and we have only 2 or 3 of the Leaphorn/Chee books left to read.

Hey everyone – just catching up after a hectic day.
Rio – our Mama is a Control Freak in Training. She says she is NOT a control freak, but she KNOWS that she will do something right, so she has a hard time delegating to someone else if she doesn’t know they will do it as conscienciously as she would.
(OK so she’s not all that perfection driven when it comes to spelling…she IS an artist after all)

Bar, I did see that part. I am a little surprised they are being so open about that part of their culture. This tv program makes me miss Tony Hillerman even more.

Siber – we kind of agree about being surprised. When we go to Gallup Ceremonial, when the Navajo dancers come out, some of the traditional Navajos leave the audience – they say that even though their religious dances have been changed from the real form to a modified form, they still shouldn;’t be done for the general public. We wonder what those traditionalists would say about this program….

Hey! Lots of lurkers checking in today to send good thoughts to Audrey.(we are sending good thoughts of healing – her surgery is long over by now)
Are any of you Great and Glorious Kats like us? We need more Kats on this blog – it serves to make Rio crazy!

  98. Barb & Maggie
    9:36 pm on May 11th, 2011

We thought the program was done in good taste and with respect for the culture. It seemed like the officers were just stating that there are parts of their job that come in conflict with their traditions. T H made that point in his Chee/Leaphorn books, too. What was your take on that?

We accumulated some recipes today. The categories we are thinking so far: Appetizers, Soups & Salads, Sides, Main Courses, Desserts and Misc. I don’t think the cookbook will be big enough to break Main Courses in more categories. What is the thought, guys?

We just did another barn check. Barb came home from work twice today to check on her, and tomorrow she just works from 1:00 till 5:00 so that won’t be so bad. Barb has decided that maybe the goat is just pretending to be preggers, just to drive her crazy.

Pictures – we have an old swim team club cookbook that we love. It has pages that go in a 3 ring binder. There are no pictures. I think we are being too restrictive and complicated if we try to do a picture with each entry. Most of my favorite recipes are on 3×5 cards in a card box.

I reminded my mom about the recipes (thanks Barb and Maggie) and she has rounded up about a half dozen that we will be sending to Dishlickers in the next day or two. Pictures may be tough though, at least right now, although there is always an abundance of pictures of moi that can be sent. Wookie

Throwing out one more thought on the cookbook. What about using a picture just on the main category page? Or even easier, some kind of a little drawing on each category page. It could even be a sketch drawing of a dog or kat, and not even food. Also, I like the little comments that the contributors are making about some of the recipes, and I think those should be included. It makes for more personal memories of our group.

  106. Tupper and Gilly
    9:58 pm on May 11th, 2011

Sam – maybe your Mom could send in a recipe for the special she gives you – dry kibble.
Barb – it is hard to deal with traditional culture in this world. Some things that are truly against old ways can be necessitated by living in the modern world. We can try to be respectful towards our traditions, but it can be tough.
A Navajo cop (or many other Nations) wants to keep the Beauty Way among his people, but criminals are by nature off the Path, and in order to deal with or capture them, the cops may have to do things against tradition. But they are doing it for the good of their people. Kind of a catch 22 – hence the need for ceremonies to bring them back into harmony and on the Path.
    It does get complicated.

Good evening y’all~ Mom got a late Mother’s day gift today, a Kindle. Apparently dad never has noticed that Mom doesn’t buy many books. I am sure she will figure out what to do soon, but right now she is overwhelmed by all the technologies that are demanding her time. Also, she doesn’t really cook. There is a tasty jello salad that everyone demands every holiday. She will put her brain cells together tomorrow and attempt to make it into something someone else can understand.

    Good night all.

That is a thoughtful gift for your mom, Macy. Mom doesn’t really cook much either and I can’t cook. I would be happy to always go to Taco Bell for food, but mom won’t agree to it.

I suppose the Borzoi is going to show up again tonight still pissed at me…sigh.

Good evening, Plunderers! Best wishes of a quick recovery go to Audrey. How cool is it the North of 90 mentioned the Jet himself in their song!

Barb & Maggie: When Luna was overdue, or so I thought I started to wonder if she might not be with litter. Then, thinking out loud I said, “Well, in that case pretty girl, you’ve really let yourself go.” Sometimes I swear she is fluent in English. She gave me a dirty look and waddled over to AJ for a love. I should have kept my mouth shut.

B and those without four-leggeds: I can sublet pictures of our dogs for the cookbook, but I have to say I like the thought of the easy chair.

I am so glad to hear that Audrey is doing well!

She must have been in a lot of pain, that poor dear.

We received our special surprise from Snowhook today. We LOVE it!!!

Natasha let on a little bit last night that there might be some interest in Whitey-Lance, but then got back to herself and focused on her upcoming mission.

Hello Rebecca – please send Vhitey-Lance greetings from us.

Hey, y’all! I know it’s late, but I’m just glad I was able to make it at all. Mom had to drive clear to the other side of town to get a graduation gift for my girl’s significant other — who’s actually graduating on Friday. Mom and Dad were going to pick it up on the way to Clemson, but now that they’re not going she had to make a special trip over there so she can get it in the mail tomorrow. And then she had handbell practice, and had to eat supper. And then she just lazed around and didn’t turn the computer on for me. Sheesh!

Anyway, my best to Audrey. My girl tore her meniscus twice — the first time was picking up her pompoms when she was cheerleading(!), which healed with physical therapy; and the second time when she was playing basketball, which needed an operation. Will Audrey have to use crutches like my girl did?

Whitey-Lance has important work to do.

Night All Sweet dreams and I hope Audrey has a comfortable night.

Borzoi, that sounds like the perfect evening…ribs, baseball, and scratching and spitting.

Kirby, Audrey is gong to get around better than your girl did after the surgery…at least mom’s Border Collie did. It is more a matter of trying to keep a dog from overdoing it.

I hope the goat has her babies soon so Barb can get some sleep.

    night again

SiberH: It just amazes me that some two-leggeds think they’re so superior to four-leggeds — until they hurt themselves. Then they can’t wait to turn themselves into four-leggeds, too! I guess if you already have four legs, you’re automatically ahead of the game if you hurt one of them!!!

OK, Mom keeps singing some song about waiting ’til the midnight hour, so I guess that’s my cue for getting off the computer. Anything to stop that undogly warbling! So I’m off to my couch with the Iowa blanket! (By the way, Maggie seems to think she can lay on my couch, too, but no way! She’s way bigger than I am, so Mom and Dad kick her off. She always looks at them like she doesn’t think they’re fair. I think it’s totally fair — I live here, and she’s just intruding a guest!!!
