No Post Today (Revised)

Why not? Because no one’s here, not even me, if that makes sense. Did lacrosse come up down below yesterday? Lacrosse balls are my favorite, those crazy bounces, plus how good they make my teeth feel when I get them in my mouth. How come you never see a human mouthing a lacrosse ball?

Welcome Rusty.

Friday, April 29, 2PM, Dennis Public Library, Dennis Mass.: Spencer Quinn and PA in a rare joint appearance. Possible highlights: the one-review story; the pre-school story; the Hollywood agent story; the Cal Ripken story; a story invented on the spot.

Good morning, Chet! You’re very early today. Yes, I did mention lacrosse last night — Dad’s coaching it this year for the first time. And I agree about the lacrosse ball. Two-leggeds don’t know what they’re missing! When the head coach heard that I was really excited about catching a lacrosse ball — until Mom made me give it back — he found one that I could keep! It’s one of my treasures, along with my squeaky toys (great noise, that!) and the rawhide bone I got for Christmas. At the rate I’m going with that thing, I might just finish it by next Christmas!!!

Good morning Chet. So, where is everyone? (And since I’m being editor, “plus how good they make my teeth feel.”)

It’s much too early. Good morning Kirby and all.

Yawn Stretch Oh what a party that was. I thought I couldn’t eat any more and then I ate and ate and ate. Usually I’m a very picky eater, but not last night. I couldn’t bring anything back for Mom because her fibromyalgia diet has no sugar of any kind in it. Mom has a sugarless cheesecake recipe for the Dishlickers Collection and thinks TupnGill’s mom will have a bunch more.

    Good Morning Chet and All:

Where is everybody? I know it’s a holiday week and all, but I still have to work!

I hope all those that have been injured are off the disabled list.

Sorry I missed the party last night…such wonderful treats! Yesterday was a very bad day at work, I was very tearful, and I would not have been good company.

Kirby: I think I could use a nice lacrosse ball to gnaw on. I have a lot of pain in my teeth, and some good chewing would definitely help.

Rose: We missed you and we have lots of shoulders to cry on. Nothing wrong with being tearful. I get that way myself. My fall on the ice soreness is gone, other than an occasional stab of pain in wrist. By the way, didn’t the Beatles have a song called Revolution #9?

T&G&The Herbs: The Pack wanted me to thank you for the party last night. They are sorry about the deck. Unless you haven’t noticed and then it wasn’t their fault.

The Herbs: One is in moderation, it should be on tomorrow. Just send me the other one.

Good morning Everyone! Zoë had a good time reading about the party this morning. She wants to know if YSAS’s outfit can be cleaned. I told her the Pack pretty well cleaned him off.

Rose: Maybe your teeth hurt because you want to gnaw on a few ankles at work?

Jeez, no poster was up very early. I’m late today. B.Stover, MollyPop and KirbyT must have gotten up at the break of day.

Melanie: I think there might be more than just a few ankles I’d like to gnaw on!

Dawson: Revolution by the Beatles uses a rock beat. Revolution 1 is a slower version. I think Revolution 9 was a longer remake by Lennon and Ono. It was the song that started the rumor that McCartner was dead. Haven’t listened to any of these in a long time. I haven’t read the novel. Wonder if PA was referring to that remake.

Good morning Everyone- Thanks for all the help in cleaning up last night. Mama came into the kitchen this morning, and you never would even know that there was a huge party here last night. So she took her coffee and went out to sit in the sun on the deck…..we don’t know what she is screaming about out there….
Hi MollyPop – sugar/firbromyalgia? Really? New one on us and could potentially be VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Mama doesnt do much sugar as her doctor says she is already extra sweet, but no one has ever mentioned that other aspect. hmmm.
B.Stover – Barb and Maggie were around for a while last night talking about the cookbook. But maybe they had to go deliver Baby Goats.
The Crazy Lady is finally a grandmother. Maybe, just maybe, she will come back down to earth now……..nahhh…
And speaking of whom, Mama has to leave now to go to work since now both sick coworker and Crazy Lady Grandmother are out. Does this mean TRIPLE SHIFTS???????

    9:40 am on April 21st, 2011

    Good morning everyone.

Bee, Barb did post in the afternoon from her work computer, but when she got home last night our home computer was out. We have a small local company, and it works the best out here in the country, but occasionally with high winds, it goes out. We couldn’t read or attend the party, so that was a bummer.

We are now caught up on the reading, and the menu last night was a fitting finale for a wondrous feast. Many, many kudos to T & G’s mama for all her hard work!

Now as far as the cookbook, Rio seems to think Barb is an extra unnecessary step in the process. Maybe our idea is archaic, and not real needed. We pictured someone sending the written recipe to us, Barb copying it and complying everything into categories, then mailing the copies to Bee thru regular mail. Then Bee could edit and make any necessary changes then send to Liz. Evidently we could do this all on computer and skip all the real paper stuff. So how do you suggest we do it, and what part, if any, do you want me to play? Feelings will not be hurt if you have other ideas, believe me.

    9:46 am on April 21st, 2011

Quick note on cetegories for the cookbook – this will be kind of a small book of special recipes. We think you could get away with the same categories as the dinner party:
Appetizers and hor d’ourves (or however you spell that dang word)
    Soups and Salads
Side Dishes -Veggie, Pasta, Potatoes etc
    Main Course
And the Best Chapter of All
    DESSERT!
The could indeed be a “doggie bag” of non-categorized recipes like specialty drinks or dog biscuits or somesuch.
Now Mama has to FLY to get to work.

    There’s B&M. Relief!!

Doing the cookbook using hardcopy is much easier for me because it’s much easier to edit hardcopy. (That probably shows my age.) Liz said we should “publish” via PDF (electronic, right??) which is why I asked about hardcopy or electronic version. My only talent on this will be editing so I think, Barb, that we need you to organize and set up everything. Liz’s talent is the art part (I don’t mean that to be funny) so Barb and Liz should get together about that I think. Just let us know what you two decide.

  24. Barb & Maggie
    10:14 am on April 21st, 2011

We agree with the categories. There should definitely be one at the end for misc. stuff, like doggie treats, since this a book put together mostly by dog and cat lovers. We have one for homemade bird seed cakes that would go in that category as well.

I like everything that’s happening with the cookbook.

I do have one question/suggestion. The pictures. Do we have to do them of the finished recipes?

I’d like to send pics with the recipes of my Dishlickers. We could do Dogs, Kats, Goats (snicker), birds (though Chet might not like that and Siber-H and OleyHowlers might too much). Those that don’t have companions right now could send pics of their rainbow bridge companions (I could help with that). Thought B.Stover might want to send a picture of her easy chair.

Dawson! We missed you & that scratch behind the ear. You said you couldn’t come – should have known you’d find a way. Wow! Jumping out of a plane – what a brave lass.

Sugar free! Who knew. Dawson, MollyPop, T&G, Rio’s Friend…Good news we are including sugar-free recipes in the cookbook. Bear will let Nana & Masquers know.

I’ve been looking at Montaigne’s Essays in the original French to decide if I agree with my translation. It’s irritating. One example I use with my students regarding the problems of translation is Camus’ The Stranger. Near the end of that novel Camus writes “je m’ouvrais pour la premiere fois a la tendre indifference du monde.” It’s always translated as “For the first time I opened my heart to the benign indifference of the universe.” It should be, “I opened my heart to the tender indifference of the universe.” There is such a difference between “benign” and “tender.” It’s so frustrating that I want to use bad language. Why am I writing about this? Sorry. I wish I knew French well enough so that I didn’t need a translation. I’m getting rid of irritation so ignore this.

I have to ponder Barb’s questions.

Hi, Everybody. Computer problems so this may be it for a few days. A cookbook will be fun.

Bee – I’ve always translated monde as world, which to my mind is smaller than a universe. Je m’ouvrais gives me a sense of his ability to open for the first time, not just the fact that he did open. Does this muddy the waters? My French is pretty rusty.

Confused! …. I still don’t know what’s going on around here….snort!…Can someone explain it to me?…sniff!….Where do we send our Recipes? Are we sending our Photos of the Recipes to Melanie? When is the deadline? …grunt!….Have I missed some specific posts or what?….grunt!…Just tell me the timeline, I will find them…sniff!

Project!…This is a very simple project really. We just need toeventually get our info to Stover for editing and our photos for cropping to Melanie….wuffle!…Then Liz will get the finalized copy and photos.…sneeze!….What is holding up this here process, I ask?…grumble!

Hi everyone – home home home! Mama is HOME for the next three days….IN A ROW!! Yippeee! Tummies for everybody!

Questions about the cookbook – here’s our thoughts. (We are NOT trying to take over, we are just giving you our thoughts)
    1. Every book needs the first “hands on” person to compile. We think we should send stuff to Barb that she can print out and organize. (Or send to her by snail mail)
    2. Then once Barb has classified, organized and compliled, she can send the paper copies to Bee to edit and clean up.
    3. Then Bee sends to Liz, who will also have the pics from Melanie. It will be up to Liz to format and actually “build” the book.

As far as the pics – if we are going with the title of Dishlickers, we think it would be cute to have a pic from each Plunderer and or 4 legged friend that includes an empty dish.
So for example – Gilly, looking adorable, sitting next to one of Mama’s Hadley plates. Bee’s easy chair, with a little table next to it with an empty plate, maybe a few crumbs on it. Alice Johnson doing yoga with her eyes closed next to an empty bowl.

    Whaddyyathink?

Rio: Send your recipes to Barb. It’s that simple.

Bluecat: Meursault, the main character in The Stranger, is very uptight throughout the novel. Finally at the end, he feels a connection. You’re right, monde is world, but I think Meursault feels a connection to everything, not just the world of man (I have that sense of “monde”). That’s why I’ve never minded the translation being “universe.” However, “benign” to me means an absence, a negation, whereas “tender” means caring or kindness. So at the end Meursault knows that the universe is indifferent to him, can get along without him, but he feels there is still a kindness in it, something that he can be part of. Thus he feels a peace and happiness. So you’re correct–at the end he does feel the ability to open his heart for the first time. Besides, the French “tendre” is easily translated as “tender” so why the “benign”? (Fun!)

T & G, As of 7:30 there were no babies. We will give it a quick check before bed, around 10:00 CST. Kim, our friend who raises the goats, say most of hers have them mid to late morning. This mama doesn’t have a good track record, so we are a little concerned. She most likely is having twins. If she rejects one like last time, we will need to get some colostrum in it within 8-12 hours or it might not make it.

Maggie – after the little goaties are born, if you need any help herding them, give us a call. But now, after doing another double shift, Mama says we have to go to bed.
    G’night all.

Damn, kitchen is taking a loong time. And I’m only at the prep stage!

By the time i get to answer your questions you will all be in beddy-byes…so i might wait til real late and do it tonight. I was going to start now but it will just get muddling.

    Later!

Liz!…No stress because there is no looming deadline…snort!…We have time to sort this all out. The Auction and the Cookbook could never really be done in time before the June entry fee is due…wheeze!…We have to hope Snowhook can raise this money through other means. We will do the best we can to get things organized and ready for maybe a June kickoff!…snort! …Things should be clear and moving along through May and then June will be our Goal Month to Rock and Roll!….heh!

Hey, y’all! Another late night — this time because Mom and Dad went off to see my boy win an award. And they didn’t take me! Or leave the computer on! Anyway, my boy got an award for being selected for Who’s Who in Junior Colleges. And then they went out to eat, and Mom brought back half of her cheddar burger, and Dad said it was for me. But Mom said, no, it’s for her lunch at work tomorrow. I think Mom should listen to Dad!

Oh, and if anyone doesn’t have Barb’s email address and wants to use the email Rio set up, all they would have to do is go into the dishlicker email account, start a new email, write the recipe, then save it as a draft. Then Barb could check the drafts and add them to her pile of recipes without anyone having to post their email address on the blog!

Rio…keep in mind that even though Snowhook wants to raise the money by June, they have until November (I think) to actually pay the fee. They had raised half the amount from us and I know some additional payments have been made after the last posting.

Cookbook questions: is someone researching the cost of publishing x copies and where will it be published? Will all copies then be sent to Rebecca who will process the orders?

Finally! The bedroom has been painted. A lovely shade of purple in honor of Wolfie’s blur-berry cobbler and the wonderful parties that Tupper and Gilly have hosted.

Not true! I was just making a joke when I said I had to go get a shot of insulin after eating all those sweets last night. I can eat sugar.

Case Noodles! I have long coveted that recipe from Rio’s grandmother.

LizF: It’s the prep that takes the longest.

CHarris: Wish I could claim genius status, but that was actually in a book Mom read! Terrorists wanted to communicate with each other without leaving any trace, so that’s how they did it! Not that we’re a bunch of terrorists or anything, but I guess we can borrow their method!

Experiment!…I did further experiments with our dump email address…snort!…Good news!

Email!….When you want to send someone from the blog something and NOT use your email address log on to the dishlickers@yahoo.com address. Send the ‘info’ to the same address, dishlickers@yahoo.com. Sign your name if need be. Because you are logged in as dishlickers your email address will reflect that account…heh!….But you can send whatever you need to for others to receive it within that same account without using your real email address!…snort!…Does this make sense to you all?….woooo! …I knew there was something to it…sniff!..I was just too tired to see it clearly…heh!..Please any questions, just ask away!…snort! …I have tested it and it works. …heh!
