No Post Today

How come? Something about a road trip, a meeting, a book about Robbie, whoever that may be. Admin and Spence were talking about it, but at the same time a brand new kind of kibble appeared in my bowl. My inside-the-house bowl is the one I mean. I also have an outside-the-house bowl for when I’m in a picnicking mood, but the problem is the birds who seem to often be in a picnicking mood, too.

Welcome Summer, Autumn, Carib dude, beautiful golden (who may be Carib dude from another angle); party aficionado: please try again.

Good morning, y’all! Wow, Chet, breakfast came early for you this morning. I just hope you don’t get too hungry later. You might want to keep an eye on those birds eating your picnic food!

Road trip…very early start…to the publisher to discuss the new PA book? Birds are in my garden eating sunflower seeds Chet. They eat twice their weight as I understand it–takes a lot of energy to fly.

    Good morning Kirby and everyone.

Hi Kirby. Besides Chet et al and us it does seem that everyone is sleeping in.

Staff was funny last night about Melanie’s cane.

Well, it’s sunny here but only 20.

Brrrr — that’s cold. Yesterday we had lots of rain — which we needed — but this morning it’s bright and sunny. Right now it’s about 40, but we’re supposed to get up to 62 degrees.

Chet, did they mention the name of your new kibble?

And how do you like it?

Yesterday was an amazing day on the blog. Very exciting, and with a happy ending to boot. I love happy endings!

I am looking forward to meeting Robbie. I know that I will adore her.

Good morning, Bee and Kirby. Not too nice here today – should get into the lower 40’s, but rain wll be coming. It’s sort of gloomy and overcast out there.

Kelly’s m-i-l is better but still in the hospital ICU, so things are still status quo here. They are not sure what happened to her, but they think big infection, and possible overdose on her meds.
Her husband is retired, and a very smart man, but what a DOPE. He is letting this woman who has brain damage from cancer and radiation treatment (think 10 yr old with no short term memory), be in charge of her own medications. Does this seem odd or not? He will say things like “Well, she SAID she took her meds”. She needs a care giver and so does he!

Good morning, Barb & Maggie! Once when Dad was sick, he had three different medications — one had to be taken every four hours, one every six hours and one every eight hours. Mom had to make a chart so they could figure out what time he had to take which pill. Mom had to do that for Buford’s pills, too. Medicine is hard to remember when you’re feeling tip-top, much less when you’re sick. Sometimes you just need help, and it sure sounds like the m-i-l needs major help, and she hasn’t been getting it!

    Good morning everyone!

Well, here in New York we had LOTS of rain, and getting to work this morning was an adventure, since many of the highway are flooded and unpassable.

I have a question for Chet and the rest of his guys…I am a HUGE Beatles fan and I just read a great book about them by Bob Spitz. He says on Sgt. Pepper’s that after the last note of the song A Day in the Life, John Lennon requested that a sound only dogs could hear be recorded. Is this true? Can the nation within the nation verify this. I’m dying to know…..

It is gloomy and overcast here too, which makes me wonder if Rio’s friend will have bad roads this morning. I hope not.

Chet, I have picnics outside sometimes just like you, but there is never any left over for the birds. My dear friend, Molly, (the husky) uses some of her kibble to bait the birds. She will carry some kibble out the doggy door and place it on the ground in the yard to lure the birds in. End of story.

-15 here and it is supposed to get up to +15. Was at school last night working and when I drove home it was +1. The road was so slippery which surprised me as I didn’t think that was “warm” enough to start melting the ice.

Rose: interesting question. I remember reading that years and years ago but I can’t remember if it turned out to be true or not. Maybe you can google it on the internet if someone doesn’t have first-hand information?

B&M: I hope Kelly’s m i l can leave the ICU soon–it’s not a great place to be. Hope they get a care giver.

Hi Wolfie! How are things on the west coast?

Rose: I always think of New York as a place of taxis but apparently you are driving on freeways. That is a great question about Sgt. Pepper.

Kirby: Not to worry. I only use the cane when I’m extremely angry at techno-types and at bloggers who write cliff-hangers AND NEVER GET BACK TO THEM!!!

Macy MinPin: Please don’t go there (about toenails).

Siber H: Now if Molly was baiting the Ravens up here, they would play with her. One would get her to chase and another one would gobble the food while she was distracted. They will work in teams against a common enemy.

Sorry SH. I looked it up. There is only one mention of toenails in DOI and it’s about Suzie:

“Suzie wore sandals; her feet looked strong, too, but skinnier and much smaller. Her toenails were painted some dark color, and she wore a silver ring around one toe. Suzie was interesting, no doubt about it. An urge came over me to sidestep my way under the table and give her toes a quick lick. I resisted it. She was a guest.”

I forgot that description about her toenails and the silver ring. I like Suzie better now!

Hi everyone. Had chemo treatment number 4 earlier today. i think this one was rougher on mom than on me. Because this is a much more complicated procedure than the other three in the cycle, she had to get up at 6:00 am to get me to the vet by 7:00 am (that of course meant I had to get up too at that time). She also had to teach a quilting class this afternoon, which made the timing very tight. Dad decided to work at home today, so that he would be there when mom dropped me off. I also have to take antibiotics for 10 days, because there is a slight risk of infection from this particular treatment, and this treatment also has a slight chance of causing “gooshy tummy” (I think that is a medical term) but so far, so good. Also, the annual quiltathon is here again at our place on Wednesday, so I need to be in tip top shape for that. You know what it is like trying to herd quilters all day. Wookie

In honor of Chocolate Chip Cookie Week:
    (with apologies to Melanie)

    Chocolate Chip Cookies

(recipe from Tavern Restaurant in Brentwood, CA.)

    8oz butter, room temperature
    1 1/4c dark brown sugar
    3/4c granulated sugar
    2each eggs

    1 1/2tsp vanilla extract
    3c pastry flour
    1tsp baking soda
    2tsp kosher salt
24oz 65% cordillera chocolate coins (or whatever your favorite chocolate is. make sure to chop it into large quarter-size chunks)

    method:
in a kitchen aid bowl, fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars until all combined. do not beat until pale or your cookies will be too flat.
add the eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
stop the mixer and scrap the sides of the bowl.
add the vanilla extract and mix for 10 seconds.
sift the pastry flour, baking soda and salt and slowly add it to the mixer with the mixer on the lowest setting.
when you see that almost all the flour has been incorporated, add the chocolate and mix just until combined.

we use an ice cream scoop at the restaurant to ensure consistency in size. choose your weapon and form the dough into balls the size of golf balls.

    for chewy cookies:
chill the dough for 2 hours
place the balls of cookie dough on a parchment lined cookie sheet 3″ apart and bake at 350F for 10 minutes.
    rotate.
and bake for another 5-7 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
cool completely or just dig in!

    for crispy cookies:
no need to chill the dough.
with very clean fingers, flatten each ball of dough as thin as possible. it should be the size of a cd.
bake the cookies at 350F for 12 minutes.
    rotate.
bake for another 12-15 minutes or until the entire cookie is delicious caramel color.
again, cool completely or eat ’em while their hot!

    extra notes:
sub the chocolate chips for dried fruits and/or nuts, peanut butter chips…whatever you like.

Wolfie — Actually by the second treatment my lymph nodes had shrunk back to normal size, so that is a very good sign that it is working. I actually have 12 more treatments to go (one a week for four weeks and then a week without treatment, which is the overall cycle). Next week is the off week following the first cycle, although I still have to go in for them to check my blood, so its not really a week off, but a week without a treatment. Wookie

“Gooshy tummy” such high falut’n science medical terms!

Supper!…She’s actually cooking tonight. This should be interesting. I’ve already had my supper and am waiting for more…gruff!… I smell hamburger cooking with a lot of spices that are not Salt. ….ugh!

Riö, just going to say goodnight. I’m putting coffee grounds in my workroom and see how they like to absorb fumes.

BTW: When YSAS was around four we went up to visit Dan and Zoë in Boston and went on a Harbor tour. Really cool. YSAS thought it was great and decided to go swimming from the top deck of a tour boat. YIKES! I caught him as he was slithering under the rail. By his back foot!

Until he was seven and actually had to pass a swimming test, he was not allowed near water without a life vest on. NO FEAR, that guy.

On the other paw, OTAS got seasick!

  111. Siberian Husky
    10:03 pm on March 7th, 2011

Maggie, those dogs you saw on the website are Alaskan Huskies. They are mixes…they generally have some Siberian in them, maybe some pointer thrown in, and some greyhound. The whole idea was to breed a dog that could do that long distance mushing faster than a purebred Siberian can.
In some circles we are called slowberians, which mom and I think is funny, but, by golly, a team of Siberians finished 8th in the Yukon Quest.
We may be slower, but we are a tougher dog than the Alaskan Husky. Tee hee…we are also better looking.

Good evening, y’all! I’m finally here, but not for long — I’m afraid Mom is going to pull the plug soon. Her late nights at work are getting me down!

Mom still hasn’t found Quacky in any of the local bookstores — I guess PA needs to have a good talk with his distributors! What good is it to write a book if nobody can find it? Mom thought she’d beat all the mail-orderers by just walking into a bookstore and buying it, but it looks like she’ll have to let her fingers do the walking after all. Sigh.

Liz, Natasha is this mysterious lady spy who is popping up everywhere, stealing Avatars of other bloggers. She has hit T & G, Melanie and Macy so far. She posts on their Avatar and then goes away. It is pretty funny, and know one knows who she is or how she does it.
