No Post Today

Why not? Because we have to go to the dentist. Not me, nothing wrong with my teeth, amigo, but poor Bernie broke one of his last night. What’s treacle? No idea. And how could one of those tiny human teeth break, anyway? No offense, but what’s to break? The dentist seems like a nice dude – I’ve seen him around, chubby guy, shy, name of Dr. Callahan – but Bernie, afraid of nobody, doesn’t like him at all, calls him Dr. Caligari. Dr. Caligari – I know him from the DVD pile – is another story.

Bernie, get the gas, then take a trip.

    Chet: no worries, mate.

Greetings plunderers. Hope all is well in your world.

Son left in the middle of the night with GF, son’s dad and his GF driving from Grand Rapids to Naples. They decided to leave at 3:30 a.m. so they could avoid traffing in Atlanta. Weird male logic. Engagement ring came back on time from jewelers after being resized for son’s GF tiny hand. Size 5. Jeez. Can’t wait to hear story and see pic from son proposing to GF on the beach at sunset. *sigh*

Mom continues to purge, clean, dust, file, fold and organize. Most of her piles of laundry are put away. Work clothes are organized. First day of new job is Monday, next week.

Hmmm. I hope that’s Dr. Caligari from the 1919 film and not the cult “Dr. Caligar” film from 1989. It did get good reviews, but the picture on the cover ? ? On the other hand, that could take Bernie’s mind of his tooth.

Good morning B.Stover and Jasper. It is decorate the tree day. Mainly when the knee doc said “Don’t use a clutch” he actually meant that!

(Aside to Commander Riö) The van will be fixed today. The Newfs are waiting for their deployment. They also promise not to step or eat on Gus & BooBear. Alice and Abbie don’t have to worry. The Pack obeys the Alice eyes!

Bess says that she’s not going this time. If Wölfie will blur her over to your place she will help you out.

Good Morning. Lots of snow still going on here. Big fat fluffy snow flakes. Very pretty, like a snow globe. We’ve now had 80 inches of snow here on the ski slopes. That’s very cooperative of Mother Nature, this time, to put it where it should be.

Treacle!…..I thought that was a syrup….snort!….How could he have broken his tooth on syrup?…sniff!… Maybe it was a treacle tart? Even then, that doesn’t seem like something that would crack a tooth off…grunt!…Now if it had been a candy cane, maybe….chorkel!… Poor guy. Dentists!….shudder!

    Hi Rio and Mollypop.

I know Melanie wrote clutch but I thought she meant crutch. Did the doctor mean clutch as in stick shift?

  9. Melanie
    10:20 am on December 17th, 2010

Yes, B.Stover. It was clutch as in gear shift.

The van broke and I had to go somewhere (hospital to see Dan) and all the other stuff that I’ve done this week.

At least the van is going to be fixed today!

The money is pouring in from our website.
We decided the best way to get money was not to rob banks but to do it (more or less) legally. So our website, animal adventures, is up and running. We have ads on it and every time someone cliks on one we get money.
I don’t know how really but Staff assures us it is working. We will apply for an animal adventures credit card today.
Get ready for some football fun!

    Oh yeah,
Any hint as to where we are going? Can we go visit CHarris? I know all the Husky’s would love that. And the pack would be willing I am sure. If we had 3 sleds then Abbie and I could be on one, and Gus and Boobear could be on the other and you could be on the third. I am sure you would like to be on Siber’H’s sled. It would go really fast.

    Heh heh

Although you might have some trouble steering.

That makes sense Melanie. A doctor saying don’t use a crutch didn’t make sense so I don’t know why I thought that.

I agree with Alice about the best way to make money. Plunderers don’t rob banks.

Hey CHarris, Is there ANY daylight up there now? Should we all bring our flashlights?
I am leaning towards the Saint Minimus by Surefire flashlights. Only 139.00. Shall I order one for everyone when we get our card? They fit around your head on a stretchy strap. I think we will look really cool with all the Neufs and Huskies glimmering in the Arctic night.
Unless we aren’t going to Alaska. But it would be so-o cool.

Have to admit we felt a tiny bit guilty yesterday when y’all were talking about how to warm up the cars in the winter. We live on the gulf coast and we have heated seats in our car as well as a steering wheel that heats up. Don’t have to use those options very often but nice to have on those days when it dips into the 40’s and 50’s.

But we’re ready to go north to Alaska. Mom and Dad went there once and just loved it.

    Hey Mr. Husky,
I looked up Flagstaff on the site and it might get rainy in the next few days. But if you live just a few (11) miles north you are getting snow for the next week!
I suppose that is a mountain.

Are you digging in the snow?

Alice, dear, I live one state East of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Flagstaff is a very pretty place, with mountains just to the north of it. Flagstaff gets a whole lot more snow that I do here outside of Albuquerque so I am surprised that rain is predicted for them. It is always cooler in Flagstaff in the summer than it is here.
I wish you guys could see my mountain…the one to the east of me. It is covered in snow and really looks beautiful because the west face of it is very rugged.
WOO WOO Yes, I have been digging in the snow. It is a rather wet snow so it is great for tunneling. Most of my snow will be gone in the next 24 hours, but it was sure a nice early Christmas present.

    5:44 pm on December 17th, 2010

Siber, I don’t know which is worse, horders, who usually have a mental illness, or people who are just plain heartless. Only defense for horders is that usually they THINK they are doing the right thing for the animals, even tho clearly they are not.

On the Chicago news the last 2 nights, they had a story about a guy who threw his 5-6 month old puppy out of the car window into busy rush hour, snowy traffic. The pup somehow survived and they are asking for anyone to come forward who might have info. They want to get this guy. To me those people are even worse, because they are demented beyond belief.

Gus&BooBear? Did you guys get your toffee today? I didn’t get my toffee today. I think the goats got my toffee. I hope they choke on it.

Barb, I agree…those people are just plain evil. I’m sad to say, we have the same kind of animal cruelty going on here, and if they get caught, the law is too easy on them.

    6:00 pm on December 17th, 2010

Siber, We hate to rub salt into the wound, but we got our toffee several days ago, and Barb says it is the best toffee she has ever eaten. She let me have a tiny taste cause I was begging so much, but she won’t let me have any with chocolate on top. She is trying to control herself and just have a piece or 2 per day, so it will last till Christmas. She said if she were a nicer person she would send you some. Snicker.

    9:23 pm on December 17th, 2010

Alice Johnson: how brave of you to consider visiting at -50. I can’t even get my relatives to do that. We have about 3+ hours of “daylight” between 10ish and 1ish but are still losing 5 minutes/day. Usually with the starlight, moonlight and the snow reflection, we see fine. Except for when it is -30, and -40 and -50 because the ice flog is so thick that you can’t see much. Flashlights don’t help in the ice fog; in fact, it makes it worse as you just see millions–maybe billions– of ice crystals lit up.

Dogs will need to have the hair between their toe pads trimmed so snow doesn’t pack in and turn to ice chips which makes it painful to walk. Also, their pads might crack open from the dry cold and will need special lubricant. Finally, their collars can’t have any metal on them or it will burn their skin. Everyone should plan on sleeping a lot because with the darkness and the cold you will feel like hibernating.

I’m sure Siber-H’s eagerness to return to his roots will get you all here safe and sound. Go until you can see Russia in the distance. In the meantime I will start lecturing the cats and dogs on company behavior and the need to share food and toys. The dogs’ worried little frown lines on their foreheads will turn to excited barking and wagging of tails I am sure. The best we can hope for with the cats is a “live and let live” philosophy.

Mollypop: No….Sarah’s house is several hours south of where I am and that is on summer roads; I’m not sure how long it would take in the winter.

Gus and Boo: I can’t *really* see Russia from my house (and neither can Sarah) although I have been on the coast and peered west. There is a section of Alaska that is close to Russia and there are a couple of towns in the state with lots of ex-pat Russians starting a new life in Alaska. A couple of teachers in my school are from Russia and speak great English but with a heavy accent. The Russian Orthodox Church has a long history in the state.

Rio: your concerns are wise. It can be pretty dangerous up here. Garrison Keillor has a quote where he says that he likes Minnesota because he “likes living in a place where nature seriously tries to kill you a couple of times a year.” I laughed when I heard it but it is true.

CKilling!… You know what MagPie, that doesn’t make me or my friend want to watch her show or vote for her in any way possible…grrrrmmphf! ….It all seems manipulative in nature, and then she is actually killing nature…grump!…Right now she is on our “Stomp On Her Face” list…heh!

Rio, We agree. We know that there are people who need to hunt for food, and we are ok with that.

But hunting for pleasure, entertainment, or the tv camera is another story. Sarah says she is “proudly intolerant of the anti-hunting group”. The saying goes “Sarah Palin never met an animal she didn’t want to shoot”. Barb says add her to your Stomp list.

On a better note, we watched a good, but serious, movie tonight. It was called Something the Lord Made. Story is about partnership between white doc. Alfred Blalock and black lab. tech Viviven Thomas. They pioneered blue baby heart surgery in the 1940s, and Blalock could have never done it without Thomas’s help. It was at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Great and inspiring story, and Thomas was a remarkable person. Rented movie from Netflix, so when you are in the mood for something serious, order it.

Vivien Thomas was a man, even tho that sounds like a woman’s name.

We saw that movie, too, and enjoyed it very much.

Our uncle is an avid hunter. When his son was very small he took him to the zoo. At the bear exhibit Davy yelled, “Shoot it daddy, shoot it”

MagPie!… We did see part of that movie one time….snort!… For the life of us, we could not remember the name of it!! So thank you very much for the information….grunt!…A lot of test dogs did suffer under that program if I remember correctly. Which was hard to watch. The black assistant was the one to truly develop the by-pass surgery procedure of the heart… sniff!…The white doctor got all the credit though….grunt!….But maybe my memory fails, cause we did not get to see the whole thing. Something The Lord Made, now we will remember the title and order it. THANK YOU!!…gruffffff!

Rio, You are right on all counts. Barb thought she would have trouble watching it because of the dogs, but they really didn’t show that part very much. When they did, the dogs undergoing surgery were not very realistic looking, so it was ok.

The assistant had to go through a lot of racial snubbing since it started in the 40’s. It got a lot better by the late 60’s, but he never really got the credit he deserved for the early surgeries. When they did the first human operation, he actually had to go into surgery and stand behind the big honcho and tell him what to do, because he had done it dozens of times and the big shot had only done it once.

We are off to bed. Tomorrow we will be home making cookies, so will see you guys in the a.m.

Melanie!… Can I borrow your soap box please?…snort!

Tired!…I am Sick and Tired of those who leave their snippy remarks on this blog and then disappear for days or forever…grunt!…Maybe this is the nature of our society right now – have an opinion but do not take the time or effort to stand up for it – just leave your remark behind and willy-nilly look in on it every now and then if at all…grump!sneeze!…My friend does admit to doing this sort of crappy thing on the Facebook King of Crapola page…grumble!…But that is a huge public thing with mostly strangers adorning it. Leaving one-time posts is natural there. It’s all rather sad really…wheeze!…I’d like to think that this here blog is more of a friendly neighborhood place where we all exchange snuffs and gruffs daily, meanwhile getting to know each other. If you want to be part of it be part of it. Don’t just be a drop-in one-time sniffer, piss on the blog then leave sort of guy…snuff!…That’s all I am saying. Be here, or don’t be here….dammit!…The whole idea of ‘Lurkers’ is freakin’ me out tonight for some reason…sniff!…Maybe cuz so many came out yesterday, and then disappeared today just as suddenly..…grump!

    And so it goes…..sniffle!

Rio, did you take your meds today?

Lurkers are just friends we haven’t met yet. This is a public forum, so you never know who is out there. We are just lucky that PASQ allows us to screw around with his blog. Not everyone would put up with us. The people who came out yesterday had strong opinions that they wanted to express.

Perhaps a certain pug should search his soul and see if he can’t think of a reason people might stay away. Hint GPU. Everyone has their own issues and do not always feel like being the brunt of a tirade. I’m just saying…as much as it may hurt to realize it, the world does not revolve around….any of us. Nitey, nite, pugsly. Delicate Min-pin licks in your ears.

Good morning, we are up early to bake and write out recipes for the D-I-L. Give me a hint Macy, what is GPU? Grumpy Pug___?

We were glad to see so many speak out against Vick. One of Barb’s friends says maybe he is truly sorry and reformed, and that the head of some Humane Society said he should have another chance. Sorry, we are not that forgiving. We liked the comment (C Harris, maybe) that said an abusive foster parent would not be given another chance and neither should he.
