“Got your sea legs, big guy?” Bernie says.
Sea legs? I have my legs, of course, strong ones, too, in case I haven’t mentioned that already. But sea legs? Didn’t get that at all.
“Because we’re going sailing. Hop in the car.”
The next thing I know I’m in the car and we’re zooming. Whatever sailing is I’m ready.

Well…it is a beautiful day for sailing. Well…Siber H. wouldn't think so.
4:30 am on August 12th, 2010
Fatty Kitty: Just read your post from last night. Delicious!
4:50 am on August 12th, 2010
Wonder if Mr. A. is sailing today with his dad and/or brothers. Great day to be on the water!
5:03 am on August 12th, 2010
If one lives in Arizona, in a desert, where does one go sailing? Have fun guys.
5:08 am on August 12th, 2010
Sailing? …. I bet someone has finished his latest book!… yup!
5:15 am on August 12th, 2010
I was thinking the same thing Rio. They are celebrating because the book is finished which means……the fourth C&B mystery is next!
5:27 am on August 12th, 2010
Water!… I hope he doesn’t slide off the boat and drown….grunt!…Then there will be no 4th Chet and Bernie….gulp!…Please be careful Mr. Abrahams!!!
5:53 am on August 12th, 2010
Bee, Maybe Bernie forgot to mention that he and Chet are vacationing on Cape Cod, and that is why they are able to go sailing.
6:10 am on August 12th, 2010
I think Chet will like sailing. He can tell us all about it, but I am not jealous. The closest place for Chet and Bernie to go sailing would be the Gulf of California. It's not that far from southern Arizona. Americans used to go there, but I don't know if they still do because of the problems in Mexico I hope Chet and Bernie are vacationing with Spence on Cape Cod. It's safer and cooler there.

Rio, The Rockies game starts at 10:10am our time today.
Good to hear from Kirby last night. I thought Kirby lived in California, but he lives next to Georgia.
6:37 am on August 12th, 2010
There is a lake in Arizona. Lake Havasu is there, home to the World Famous London Bridge. (A person actually bought the old London Bridge, took it down brick by brick, and rebuilt it in AZ.) Now that would be a good spot for Chet & Bernie to solve a mystery.
However, "boating" is the recreation there, as opposed to "sailing," so I lean toward the Cape vacation theory.
Have I ever mentioned that the Librarian is married to a Sailor? That's where she gets the colorful language she uses. Occasionally.

7:08 am on August 12th, 2010
#4!…. I wonder what Big Idea Spencer has for our daring duo in the next book?… snort!
7:10 am on August 12th, 2010
Fatty's real name was PJ. What does that stand for? How old were you, Fatty, when you crossed over?
7:14 am on August 12th, 2010
Perhaps Mr. A. would consider another young adult book as well (Ingrid maybe)?
7:22 am on August 12th, 2010
MagPie!… Even though he is two different people… snort!…He can only write one book at a time. Now which would you prefer – another Chet and Bernie….wheeze! … or another young adult?…grunt!…Besides, he just finished a young adult novel.
7:28 am on August 12th, 2010
Pleased to meet you too, Mr. Rio. Did I already mention I am a fan of the "Patron Pug of the Rockies" square made by your Friend?
Barb & Maggie: PJ was an unused nickname (it didn't suit him)for one of Dawson's sons. He lived with the Librarian for a time after High School. That's when my brother & I were adopted. He also named my brother Luigi. I was 15 when I passed over, with wisdom beyond my years, if I do say so myself.
Librarian: You always do say so yourself.
Excuse me! I was typing. As for the eating and napping and stretching and yawning I do…well, it's Heaven after all. What would you do in Cat (or Dog) heaven?
7:35 am on August 12th, 2010
Fatty!… I’ll be sure to tell her you liked my square ….snort!… Did you catch the signature? It says, “Your Biggest Fan, Rio”… snorkel!…Get it? Biggest Fan?…heh! … I thought of that myself by the way… snicker!
7:40 am on August 12th, 2010
Stover!… I want to personally thank you for making The Motto square!…. snort!… I think it most definitely will add that extra something to the finished quilt!… sneeze! …Can’t wait to see what Staff comes up with today!..wheeze!
8:01 am on August 12th, 2010
OK, Rio, good point. I would, of course, vote for a Chet and Bernie book.
FK, thank you for all the background information. 15 is a respectable age, and, yes, you do seem wise beyond your earthly years.
8:44 am on August 12th, 2010
Rockies!…Come on guys!…snort!…We need some runs really soon now! Right after Hammel strikes out all those Mets!….

9:41 am on August 12th, 2010
Whew, will read all tomorrow or later tonight. Tired . . . The doc thinks I'm in okay shape for an old broad.
Did notice the picture of Riö as a puppy. . . It that what happened to BP?
9:45 am on August 12th, 2010
LOL,rrl @Melanie!
10:01 am on August 12th, 2010
Thank you Rio. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.
Melanie: I'm glad of the doctor's report but I didn't know you were going to see him. Get some rest.
The last episode of Haven was very strange. I don't know if I'm willing to suspend my belief to the extent that that show requires. There is a new episode of Rubicon On Demand that I'll watch tonight.
Wonder how the sailing is going. (I get seasick standing on the dock.)
10:31 am on August 12th, 2010
Sailing!… I would be sick as a dawg on a sail boat!… heh!… I’d be leaving a trail of chum….gag!
11:03 am on August 12th, 2010
I should have said, I'm not willing to suspend my disbelief….etc.
I don't go on boats. I also hate going on planes. I love traveling by train however. Too bad I don't live in England.
11:14 am on August 12th, 2010
Wow, there's a lot to catch up on! First of all, dad fixed "my" computer so now I can talk for myself. (Finally!!) Wookies mom – I love my block!! Don't you think I'm the handsomeist dude ever????
Fatty Kitty – I didn't know you have gone over the Bridge!! Can you say hello to my mom's critter family who have crossed over the years? Tell them I'm taking VERY good care of our mom!
Hmmm…Spence didn't say he was going to the Cape on vacation! I just hope he puts a life jacket on Chet in case he washes overboard!! Plus, Chet might need a little sunscreen or maybe one of those white sailors hats.
Stover – I can't wait to see your "Plundering Block" You are awesome!!
Staff – Are you still on Chapter 6? I can't believe you can stop! Glad you're feeling better! And am glad that you are healthy too, Melanie. You must have mixed feelings about saying goodbye to the little ones. They are just the cutest darn things!
11:18 am on August 12th, 2010
Rio – Is that really a picture of you when you were a puglet?
Awweee!
And what does rrl mean? As in….LOL, Melanie, rrl.
Mom goes to the eye doctor today to get her eyes fixed. Well, not to get them fixed today, but to get it scheduled. She has something called dogeracts. (Well, actually, she said Kataracts but I think Kats get too much attention already.)
Did Mollypop, Lexi and Sam go on vacation all at the same time?
Dang, I wonder where they are? I miss those guys! Sigh.
11:19 am on August 12th, 2010
oooooooo
Maybe they went sailing with Chet and Bernie and are sworn to secrecy! Pondering……..
11:19 am on August 12th, 2010
Puglet, ha ha ha, sometimes I just crack myself up!!!
11:32 am on August 12th, 2010
Well I am back after a good poking at the local (only 20 min. away) clinic, running errands and a long nap. I had a list of 5 things to do after poking and didn't even bring the book so I get to read chapter 6 today in the comfort of my chair at home.
Always dangerous…..
Sailing, that sounds quiet and peaceful. Just the swoosh of water under the keel. Is that right? It is a keel isn't it?
Staff,
who is well napped this afternoon, except for the interruptions from the "weather" radio about thunderstorms and flash floods, none near enough to wake up for.
12:07 pm on August 12th, 2010
Hi Staff and Wolfie.
The third of Rubicon On Demand has an excellent and helpful summary of events to date. I didn't realize that Travis' boss (the one killed in the train crash) was also his father-in-law. I really like Miranda Richardson. Wonder when the two plot lines will come together.
Now I'm going to watch Covert Affairs.
12:39 pm on August 12th, 2010
Hmmmphf!…. Must be nice to lay around all day and watch TV and play on the computer!…. grunt!…. Oh, wait, that’s what I do all day long too…heh!heh!
12:52 pm on August 12th, 2010
Hi Wolfie, you seem very, uhh, perky today. You didn't get into a big box of doughnuts did you? Mmmm…doughnuts..all I ever get is a nibble of a hole..but, again..mmmm.
Staff, we would love some thunderstorms, especially in the afternoons when napping is best.
Siber..my peeps are leaving for New Mexico soon. Unless a miracle happens, the laptop will be in the closet. Our Angie will still be here, but I bet she won't even think about what I want. *sniff*
12:54 pm on August 12th, 2010
What I like about not working is not being on a schedule.
1:09 pm on August 12th, 2010
this is where the quilt is now…
I am waiting for the picture from Cosmo (Susan) to come in. She has been given the 13th as a deadline. When it is here I will print it and the one of greedy guts (RB Sage) on the last piece of photo fabric I have and the quilt top will be completed.
I will use the block with the 2 Rio photos as the label for the back of the quilt and the number will be perfect. Rio wanted this photo in the top so he has to give something up to get it. One of his 4 blocks will have to go to the back.
I will probably receive B's "plunder logo" for the center tomorrow and can put any border on it that will work. It sounds like she is doing the block 'on point', which is quilter speak for having a corner up as the top instead of one of the flat sides as the top. Should be no problem.
Then I 'just' have to sew together the blocks, buy some batting and make a backing and quilt it. Bind it. Mail it. We should be on time.
Meanwhile I am hosting a TOGA (Treadle On Gathering and Academy) for people from all over the Midwest at the Quilt Store next weekend. So I will probably not be working on the quilt then.
Although I am sneakily thinking I might get the lady who is demonstrating Treadle quilting (as opposed to an electric machine) to use the quilt as her sample piece….heh heh heh. Sneaky Yes! We shall see if that works out.
Staff
3:01 pm on August 12th, 2010
GRUMP!…. Isn’t “The Back” the part that will be facing the Wall???? … snort!… I do not remember asking to be on the Top Row!… grunt!… We never discussed “placement” at all Ms Staff!… wheeze!… So all the hard work and money my friend spent on the two-photo baseball square will never be seen once the Quilt is hung up on Mr. Abrahams wall?…. sniffle!… This doesn’t seem Fair at all!….dammit!… Explain to me what a damn Label is on a quilt anyway! ….growl!
Squares!… Why can’t we come up with more squares to make another row instead of sticking me in the back facing the wall?… grumble!…There has got to be another solution by golly!…crap!
3:11 pm on August 12th, 2010
Rio: You'll have three squares with your picture on front and one on the back as label. I think that's quite fair.
3:12 pm on August 12th, 2010
Sniff!… I even had her sign that square for me to my favorite autor!…sob!…please don't stick me in the back of the quilt!…sob!sob!sob!…After all I have done to organize this quilt project this is how you are going to treat me?….snuffle!
3:13 pm on August 12th, 2010
heh!…autor = author. Of course of a horse…snort!
3:16 pm on August 12th, 2010
Stover!… It’s only fair to you because YOU will not be facing the wall all day and night and Not be Seen by anybody EVER!…grunt! … My friend went to all the work of creating TWO squares with her own hands and they both deserve to be seen ….dammit!…There has to be another solution…. Growl!… Really, a Wall Quilt with Squares on the Back doesn’t seem right at all!…
3:18 pm on August 12th, 2010
Damn!…That Molly, Sam and Lexi!…snort!… If they had contributed there would be another Row!…grumble!
3:23 pm on August 12th, 2010
If the one on the back is signed to the author it will stand out more since it will be the only square there. And no one else has four squares.
3:31 pm on August 12th, 2010
Oh for pete's sake Rio,
All you have to do is say you want to be on the front and I don't have to make another block for Greedy Guts. YOU are the one who wanted greedy guts!
(((Sigh)))…..
The fact that you signed the block as you did is what makes it a perfect label for the back. (snort)
So, do you want a greedy guts on the front or can I just put your FOURTH block on the front and hhhhey! We can put the official ID card of yours on the back. That would work too! We don't need two bedbug sniffing blocks on the front.
How about that?
Staff
3:34 pm on August 12th, 2010
It is pouring down rain here. I can't see into town. If I stop posting you will know that the internet is out. Or, of course, I am tired of listening to Rio lament.
Tee hee
Staff
3:39 pm on August 12th, 2010
Rio's lament. Should we put it to music, or should we translate it to Old English?
3:45 pm on August 12th, 2010
Ye Olde English, methinks, an it please your ladie.
3:51 pm on August 12th, 2010
Groan!… That fact that I wanted Greedy Guts has no bearing on this at all… snort!…. It’s just that he was in a story and I have a special place in my heart for the greedy little fellow. And Melanie took such an awesome photo of him! …crap!
Team!…I think we need a vote from the members on the Quilt who will actually be going to face Mr. Abrahams office …sob!sob!sob!…all day long.
Vote 1. If you want my Official (yawning) Bed Beg square to be the label in the back – never to be seen again!
Vote 2. If you think we should drop the Greedy Guts square.
Vote 3. Just for an extra-added vote if you are really super mad at Lil Lexi, Molly and Sam for not contributing and making this dilemma possible. ..grrrr!
3:55 pm on August 12th, 2010
Hey!… I have another idea!…grunt!
Vote 4. If you think the Plundering Motto should be on the very top row by itself, centered…. Sniff!… that way both Greedy Guts and I could be on the front!…
3:56 pm on August 12th, 2010
I like the bedbug square and think it should go on front. The square with two of your pictures and your signature should be the label on the back.
However, we don't need a square of Greedy Guts since there is a square with all twelve pups on the front already.
4:05 pm on August 12th, 2010
I don't think vote three should be on this board. We are not here to assign blame or to be upset with others.
I think we can ditch Greedy Guts also as the dear sweet puppy is already on the front. He can live in the 12 pack and we will do very nicely on the front.
Besides then I would have to make 7 more squares instead of just two. I like the size it is.
Staff.
4:09 pm on August 12th, 2010
I am going off to eat a Colorado peach and let the juice drip down my fingers, and some walnuts. YUM. You guys sort it out.
Then I will do what I want.
My sister's should have warned you that I am bossy.
Hehehehheheheh
Love to you all,
Staff
4:21 pm on August 12th, 2010
Okay!… Everyone is being Silent, so unless otherwise voted differently by a vast majority (not that it matters cuz Staff will do as she pleases) ….snort! …the Greedy Guts stand-alone square is gone… wheeze!… I am sorry for venting my anguish on the ones who are MISSING. I never should not have done that … wheeze!
4:24 pm on August 12th, 2010
Psssst!… I think Staff is really Alice in disguise!… shudder!
4:24 pm on August 12th, 2010
I vote for making one of Greedy Rio's squares into a hot pad.
Alternatively, make Greedy Guts square into a hot pad and send it to Rio.
4:47 pm on August 12th, 2010
We think GG is adorable, but he is on there with his 11 siblings and he will not be part of our blog in the future, since he has gone to his new home. So we vote to take him off. Also, Staff is putting a lot into this already, especially considering her recent major surgery. Adding more squares would be more work for her, so let's keep it at the size it is.
We also don't see a problem with the signed square being a label on the back and Rio's other 3 being on the front.
4:54 pm on August 12th, 2010
Going back over some old posts to find out what happened to Sam, Mollypop and Lexi: Still no clue but on July 24th or 26th Mollypop thanks Wookie for designing her quilt square for her. She said this quilt was making her crazy.
I personally believe that Mollypop and the 2 princesses must have squares on this quilt. Staff: It's my opinion. I remember Sam was very into giving orders about beads, pearls, rhinestones, etc. that would have to be sewed on later. You had some glitter that she also accepted. Maybe their squares got lost in the mail?
All that being said: Staff doesn't need to be stressed out or overworked so I will accept her decision (like I have a choice) without any complaints. Thanks again for all the extra work that Debbie and Staff have done on this project. Hat Tips.
5:09 pm on August 12th, 2010
Dawson!… You know what!… snort! … Just take me off every thing and all will be solved… grunt!…How about that? … We here did 2 squares. The others were made from a team effort from other blog members…grump!…Excuse me for being so Greedy! … dammit!
Also!… I applaud Staff and Debbie for all the extra work and effort they have gone to and are still doing on this project!… sneeze!
Rio OUT!

Dawson!… My apologies to you, my emotions are a bit frayed tonight for some reason…grunt!…I should know not to take you serious ….snuff!… Let Staff Almighty do as SHE WILL… snort!… What ever she decides will be awesome, I am sure of it. Amen to the Quilt!
5:47 pm on August 12th, 2010
Amen!
5:49 pm on August 12th, 2010
Macy, Belle, Holly, Annie and Biddie think that rio is being a greedy guts for wanting the quilt to be ALL about him. But that is just our opinion.
5:51 pm on August 12th, 2010
Oops, we just read where Rio mellowed. sorry big guy
6:18 pm on August 12th, 2010
All we can say is, Staff, at this point you are the one doing ALL THE WORK, so we appreciate your efforts, and any decisions you make will be fine with us (as long as we get on the quilt). Bless you all and good night.
6:25 pm on August 12th, 2010
We know we are late, but what did happen to Mollypop, Lexi and Sam? Even we remember Sam wanting a Princess sqare. We hate for Staff to have to work so hard but it seems like they should be on the quilt. Wish we could get some feedback from one of them. Thank you again, Wookie's mom for doing our square. It looks super. And we vote for not doing the single square of RBGG and moving Rio' s 4th square to the front. It seems very special to him and his friend worked hard creating it.
But all in all…Staff will make it look great so we bow to her final thoughts.
6:35 pm on August 12th, 2010
Min Pin!… Your timing is very unfortunate….grump! … Refresh, Read, Post!…Three basic rules to the Blog!… grunt!… Or you, Belle, Holly, Annie and Biddie all look like a big fat fools …wheeze!
Grumble!… I am definitely not in the mood to discuss this rationally tonight….snort!… I will speak to Staff Almighty tomorrow when I have calmed down from some other things….grunt!
6:41 pm on August 12th, 2010
I stopped where you said to vote, so we went right to the bottom.
Sorry to all that I did not read all the way to the bottom.
Thank you Wookie's mom for getting me to the quilt and to Staff for your most excellent work and perseverance in spite of your surgery. I really am tickled to be a part of this. Even Pops the grump think it is cool.
Just for the record, Macy, Belle, Holly, Annie or Biddie are not fat, OR fools.
Macy out.
6:46 pm on August 12th, 2010
Belle!… Well, she could never look like a Fat Fool, so I do take that one back! … sniff!… Hi Belle, how are you tonight besides being mad at me for hogging the whole quilt to myself? … wheeze!
6:54 pm on August 12th, 2010
All right everyone, Love to you all. Calming sea breezes and swishing water noises to send us all to a lovely sleep. In the morning all will be well. I promise you.
Dear watcher over all, Please help Rio and Staff to work together to make the best quilt possible with the help of all the faithful bloggers. Please do not let anyone who wants to be on the quilt be left out. Pleas guide us in all we do so we don't make an imperfect quilt. Remember this quilt is not about us, but about and for Chet the Jet. Help us be humble and not bossy.
Abbie the Kitty…nighty night

On another note:
Have you seen the August 14th TIME magazine? The cover story is
"What Animals Think." As if Time Magazine would know. They actually pose this question in the table of contents, "Do animals think?" Egad.
And the cover is my favorite. At the risk of Media Saturation for the PUGnatious tribe, here it is:

AbbieTheKat & Fatty Too!…Good way to end this Terrifying night of bickering!… snort!… Thanks be to the Sisters in the Hood!…heh!… Tomorrow it will be sorted out without any blood being spilled…sneeze!… I promise.

Fatty Kitty: That is a nice pug and you were busy eating or having a nap when someone posted it a couple days ago. Worth repeating. Good Night all.
